In today's DT:

digitaleditions.telegraph.co.uk/data/1387/reader/reader.html?social#!preferred/0/package/1387/pub/1387/page/40/article/NaN

Sorry, I don't know how to get past the paywall.

It's about the person who was upset when given the key to the unisex changing room in a Sheffield hotel.

I'm just piecing this together. They were staying in a hotel in Sheffield. At their own expense. To volunteer at a children's swimming competition. For what, 4 nights? At about £100 a night? Plus other out of pockets expenses such as dinner etc. That's a lot of money.

AC must really love the sport, it's so kind to do all that and go to that much expense. Most volunteers are parents of the kids or people who work within Swimming. You have to be very motivated to spend your time and money volunteering for something that's not your job and your child isn't competing.

Unless a child/young adult has difficulty dressing, I can't think of any reason why a swim official/volunteer or parent would NEED (or want) to be in the showers or changing areas.

The blanket ban will be absolutely fine with swim-parents,coaches and volunteers who don't have ulterior motives.

I'm struggling to think of a (competition) pool where this might be problematic.

If Anne really loved the sport then wouldn't Anne have stayed til the end and not left after their access was revoked? Or something?

cuckyplunt · 29/07/2023 13:33

If these so called women, had any feeling at all for real women and girls, they would accept their discomfort and ban themselves from women only spaces.

Whatthechicken · 29/07/2023 13:36

It’s a good job Anne has long hair, otherwise they could be exposing themselves to an allegation of voyeurism.

Yes this. Five minutes ago everyone perfectly understood why a 60 year old man wanted to hang around the changing room containing minor females and why it was everyone else's duty to say nope very firmly.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 29/07/2023 13:36

The story was in Mail first thing if people can’t get past the paywall.

NicCageisnotNickCave · 29/07/2023 13:53

I put these on the other thread earlier, just dropping them down here for tidiness sake.

Taken from Anne Coombes’ Mastodon account this morning.

Ah! Anne is wondering whether to stay or leave.

I think we have the answer to that little conundrum, Anne.

Hoppinggreen · 29/07/2023 13:56

If Anne thinks Anne should resign then Anne should

How interesting that Anne uses the word man, and in conjunction with some other interesting words. Fascinating.

Did Anne just say the quiet part loud and not notice they'd even done that?

Why does Anne think that people will see a dirty old man perving, I wonder?

I mean, we were all thinking it - but it's nice that Anne was able to articulate it so clearly.

Anne seems to be very aware of how the world at large perceives Anne. Sadly Anne couldn't give a shiny shite, once Anne's demands are met without quibble.

It’s so absurd isn’t it? If Anne hadn’t declared Anneself to be a woman and picked a few random stereotypes of womanhood to adorn Anne’s person there would undoubtedly have been police involvement in this situation. What’s troubling is that Anne will still be able to roam the female changing rooms when Anne is going swimming. But at least now Anne has featured in a couple of news stories 👀

Yes, if ‘Myra’ is still involved with Anne’s swimming club, she might want to have another go at objecting to being coerced into sharing the female change area with Anne, using The Mail or the Telegraph as a reference…

I can't imagine. It's a complete mystery.

If I remember correctly, accommodation for officials is provided by British Swimming but on a shared twin room basis. You can, in special circumstances, book your own room but you can only claim 50% of the cost. You get a meals allowance too and you can claim travel expenses.

I know many adults without swimmers who give up a lot of their own time to volunteer as officials, including at Commonwealth Games level. None of them have ever gone wandering around in the changing rooms though.

What quick work - almost impressive.
