In today's DT:

digitaleditions.telegraph.co.uk/data/1387/reader/reader.html?social#!preferred/0/package/1387/pub/1387/page/40/article/NaN

Sorry, I don't know how to get past the paywall.

It's about the person who was upset when given the key to the unisex changing room in a Sheffield hotel.

Excellent. Thanks for posting!

Good they've come up with a rule nut it's a cop out to say "no volunteers/non swimmers" rather than "no males in the female changing rooms"

RoseslnTheHospital · 29/07/2023 12:31

Surprised that they needed to review their policies to ensure that the women's changing rooms are not to be used as a short cut!

This is the same person who complained the receptionist gave them the key to the unisex changing rooms rather than the female.

titchy · 29/07/2023 12:34

What's Anne's twitter feed like today? Grin

MillWood85 · 29/07/2023 12:35

How awful for those poor girls. And why should they have their needs completely pushed to one side for men like this??!

I'm glad that action has been taken, but it's still whitewashing to a degree. They've just banned volunteers. Even the decent female ones without agendas.

Yes, and I wonder if Anne Coombes hadn’t bleated about not being given the key to the women’s changing rooms, the parent who raised objections might not have said anything/connected the dots/reported the incident. It would be delicious if AC’s own sense of victimhood had led directly to this rather public admonishment.

They may already have that rule - from the article:

”British Swimming confirmed that Ms Coombes used the changing rooms as a walkthrough route from one area of the venue to another and was not using it as a changing area, so no separate changing area was needed”

Sounds like she was circumventing the existing rules, in order to get into the women’s changing rooms anyway.

Madcats · 29/07/2023 12:41

It's in the Daily Fail too.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12350741/Parents-raised-concerns-transgender-pool-official-using-womens-changing-room-time-young-girls.html

As a swim parent and DBS vetted volunteer at Meets (but DD didn't get beyond regionals) I am furious.

We've had a bit of a chat about this on the swim thread and we all agreed that we avoid the changing rooms. There are always dry-side loos.

Hopefully this bloke gets his volunteer status revoked.

I'm glad to see the rules tightened up, anyway.

Signalbox · 29/07/2023 12:43

So in order to ban one man they’ve also had to ban a bunch of women so as not to look transphobic presumably.

Saschka · 29/07/2023 12:44

I think the rule is fine honestly - I wouldn’t want a random man wandering through the boys’ changing room when DS was changing either.

No need to make this trans-specific, no unrelated adults should be wandering about in changing rooms when children are changing into swimming costumes.

MutantTurtles · 29/07/2023 12:46

I see that they have tweeted that
trans women are adult human females

‘Back home from Sheffield, doisappointed that I couldn't help out on the last day of competition.’

So presumably got kicked out early.

That’s a good point actually. I guess this rule will safeguard boys as well as women and girls.

Tallisker · 29/07/2023 12:49

Shame the Telegraph doesn't make it clear this is a transwoman ie a man identifying as trans (I only saw the digital edition, I understand there might have been a photo on the paywalled edition)

It's clear it is trans specific, though. No other male bodied people were wandering about in the girls changing room.

It is truly delicious that Anne's attempt to use the trusty shield of British fair play and 'decency ' (aka compliance with Anne's wishes) has resulted in Anne popping a cap in Anne's own ass with the Uzi of entitlement and folly.

(With apologies to Charlie Brooker)

Was he kicked out/prevented from helping at the event? Or just told he couldn't go through the girls changing a rooms, had a hissy fit and flounced off??

MavisMcMinty · 29/07/2023 13:06

Bad week for poor old Anne.

I meant no reason to make the rule trans-specific - it was obviously a loophole, and a male-presenting paedophile could also have exploited it to watch the boys change, so best to make a blanket rule to stop any randoms of any gender wandering through at all.

Oh, right. Of course.
