Are trans people really facing genocide?

CremeEggsForBreakfast · 26/04/2023 10:32

I follow a trans creator on social media. This person is not particularly well-known but I follow them so I'm not in an echo chamber and so I can better understand the opposite point of view.

This person, and others they follow, have been posting about how trans people are facing "a genocide". With new laws on sexual battery being proposed/passed in some states and the attempts to classify "gender reassignment surgery" as sexual harm it seems many trans people now believe this is part of a wider plot not to, you know, safeguard young children but to actually legally murder trans people.

The content I have seen is trans people saying they are facing Stage Eight of a genocide which would be akin to concentration camps.

The laws do seem pretty radical (death penalty, outlawing of drag) but AIBU to think that calling it genocide is hyperbolic? And that given the meaning of the word, genocide can only be committed against racial and ethnic groups?

I'm willing to have my mind changed. I can believe that sex is immutable and still not want trans people to face the death penalty but I find the equating to the national persecution of Jewish people during the Holocaust quite disturbing.

What about the many TRAs who post sexually violent posts at GC women on social media? Death threats? Harassing their families?

The old lady smashed in the face by a young man in New Zealand last month at Let Women Speak?

Maria McLaughlin assaulted by a man (bit of a pattern here, can you see it?) at Speakers Corner a few years ago.

I'd be interested to hear comparable acts by GC women against trans people

@thathuman

How are trans people being targeted?

shinybluebead · 26/04/2023 16:26

Fuck's sake!
No.
Real historical genocide( Armenian) isn't even recognised in this country😡, and now we've got to hear it being compared to this rubbish!

@thathuman

How are trans people being targeted?

"Transgender individuals and communities experience shocking amounts of violence and discrimination. This section offers some information on the staggering rates of violence that trans and non-binary people face, although it should be noted that data is limited. In addition to experiencing high rates of domestic and sexual violence, trans and non-binary people are often the targets of transphobic hate crimes and state violence."

Drama or what!

Of course they are not and it is insulting to those who have faced genocide or have that history in their family. As seems to be the norm with trans there is no perspective and it is all about ME ME ME.

ClawedButler · 26/04/2023 16:43

Having had conversations on SM with a number of detransitioners and transsexuals (men who dress as women but acknowledge that they are male, with or without surgery), it seems that when you are in the cult, you are told that actual people are actually coming to get you, right now. And that it's real and it's happening and it's because "they" hate you. Then when they escape the cult and "come to" and look around, they realise that it was yet another lie they were told to keep them in line. Frightened, compliant, with an us v them mentality that binds the community closer together.

If your ideology can be destroyed by stating the truth, it deserves to be destroyed. If you have to lie to people to keep them on-side (transition cures all ills, always goes well, you can indeed become the opposite sex, everything will be better for you if you do what we do/say, the TERFs are coming for you with guns and knives, the TERFs think everyone should be gender conforming because they're right-wing bigots, you'll kill yourself if you can't transition, detransitioners are stooges planted by the far right and TERFs et cetera ad nauseum), you've got nothing.

I see gender ideology now like a nightclub when the lights go on at the end. And what seemed glamorous and sparkly turns out to be a bit grubby, rather sad, and profoundly prosaic.

Babdoc · 26/04/2023 16:46

Hate crimes?
Refusing to call a rapist “she”.
Objecting to intact males stripping off in women’s changing rooms.
That sort of thing?
As opposed to issuing rape and death threats and beating up elderly feminists for daring to attend a Women’s rally…
Aye, right.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 26/04/2023 16:48

I'd post this on Reddit and see what you get because this site is very, very biased.

Reddit is incredibly biased. Anyone who can't see why children shouldn't transition, and why biological men shouldn't be allowed in women's sports and safe places, is very biased and blind.

The drag bill sounds utterly crazy and I agree it’s alarming (wouldn’t it ban any cross-dressing theatre performances? What about school performances if the kids play opposite sex characters? ) but it wouldn’t have been enacted without the weird insistence on bringing drag queens into schools to perform for children without the consent of the parents.t want

Why did the American left decide to die on Drag Queen Hill? A populist backlash was inevitable and What exactly is so fucking great about drag queens reading to children (and boys competing in girls’s sports and rapists in women’s shelters) that it’s worth the next presidency?

I’m not worried about “trans genocide.” The men who’ve been pushing this shit can and will just stop cosplaying if life ever gets tough for them. I am worried about the coming backlash though. There are signs that in the US at least it’s opening the gateway to authoritarian enforcement of gender roles. In the UK I don’t see that, but I see a possibility the trans movement will take the NHS with it.

I really and truly do not understand Drag Story Hour. What's in it for the children? How does it improve their love of reading and books?

David Aaronovitch wrote an article saying that drag story time was just fine, and praising one particular DQ (can't remember the name off the top of my head). I looked them up and their tweets were full of references to 'bum honey' and wanting to scratch their 'ball sack' on the train. If a non-drag queen had a twitter profile like that, they wouldn't be able to work with children would they?

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 26/04/2023 16:49

You've clearly never been on Reddit, if that's what you think. There are many a safe haven for terfs like y'all! Trans women are trans women. Men are men. They're two different things but, you think you know it all, huh? 😂

They actually aren't. Trans women are biological men.

IcakethereforeIam · 26/04/2023 16:57

If the pp is so certain that reddit is so open to alternative viewpoints I dare them to go on there and post something GC, like transwomen are men.

SquidwardBound · 26/04/2023 15:47

You could, for example, read the law. It’s available online.

And then make a judgement about whether measures within it about aggravated sexual battery of children under 12 are something TRAs should be protesting against and claiming are an
act of genocide against trans people.

Yes I mean look, I don't want to come off like a far right fascist trump supporting bigot, but I'm rather in favour of stiff legal deterrents against the 'aggravated sexual battery of children under 12'

Gosh. I guess that makes me a Nazi

See it wouldn't bother me at all if the idea was for a range of people form marginalised groups doing story hour, in order to teach children about differences. Libraries could do a story hour led by e.g. somone with Down Syndrome, an army veteran who is an amputee, a hijabi, a Buddhist monk, etc blah blah blah. That would make sense. Instead it's all focussed on Drag Queens, who are not marginalised, since they are the subject of one of the most famous and widely syndicated family TV show of all time, RuPaul's Drag Race.

it also doesn't help that many of the DQs in question have personas that are not child friendly at all.

Here in Scotland, one of our MP's invited a drag queen who has explicit material on their social media to a School and then attacked parents who raised concerns -

Same MP who called women 'Jeremy Hunts'.

And as I've said before - why is it always drag queens which are selected to show 'diversity'? There's a poster on here who has a kick ass firefighter niece who is a lesbian. Why not someone like her? What is the bizarre fixation on drag queens?

Drag queens aren't trans... You know that right? 😂

Trans people need to sort out who is going to be included under their umbrella because its definitely in there.

Are trans people really facing genocide?
HinCogNeetOh · 26/04/2023 18:01

Yes indeed, a question posed often - why is drag the poster boy for 'diversity' and not a person with downs syndrome, or a kick ass lesbian, or a Paralympian, or a pianist with sight impairment.

ignoring the sealion

No I think you just don't understand what you're looking at. Not all of those are gender identities. Google is free.

Sounding a bit non-inclusive and trans-normative there. Come on, queer it up a little.

and yet that is from a trans organisation.

You can't have it both ways.

As for the snarky comment, if that's your best attempt at a discussion maybe you should give up. :)

nilsmousehammer · 26/04/2023 18:12

It is. And it isn't. It's complicated. Lolz. Depends which way the wind's blowing in the moment you ask. Essentially think of playing a board game with a five year old making up the rules as they go along, with the aim that you play with them, but that they win and you lose.

🙄
