Starting to wonder if Radcliffe's hard drive needs seizing......

SammyScrounge · 27/04/2023 10:27

Daniel and his wife have had a baby girl. I wonder how long his support for trans ideology will last.

Don’t underestimate the extent to which believers can throw their own children under the bus.

What's going on with Radcliffe & baby &twitter? There seems to be a rash of TRAs on twitter complaining that the BBC used a photo that doesn't disguise the height difference between Daniel and Erin and this somehow shows transphobia. At least I think that's what they're objecting to in the photo, but really confused.

Congratulations to them and all that.

Any piss taking about relative height is coming from misogynists not GC people.

Any piss taking about Daniel's sudden ability to discriminate between male and female in choosing a girlfriend who is able to have a baby, and in being able to tell the sex of said baby, is down to Daniel's hypocrisy. And nothing to do with a lovely picture of a happy couple.

Meanwhile I will look forward to Daniel transitioning his toddler into cat/owl/train/superhero according to the time of day. The press interviews will be brilliant. Different name each time. Kids know who they are.

I've seen a lot of people on Twitter saying that she's a man, with comments saying stuff like "erm... lol look at her height, that's a man" and stupid stuff like that.
She's just had a baby for crying out loud, she's not trans but that doesn't stop lots of comments pulling her for not looking "womanly " enough, that she's too tall to be a woman etc
Transphobia hurts all women which is why I can never stand alongside it.

Poor woman 😞

I'm over 6 feet tall too. Since I became aware of this whole world, I've wondered I'll get the same questioning look/comments one day.

Sadly it just adds to why there is a huge sorry mess.

I fully disagree with Daniel Radcliffe's position on children who identify as trans and have made comments to that effect further up this thread. However, I would never want to see it impact his partner in such a hateful way.

I'm not sure I'd agree that transphobia affects "all women". However, on this occasion it sounds like hateful comments about being trans (even though she isn't) are being directed towards her. I'm always cynical about what would constitute transphobia. I disagree that saying that a transwoman is a man is transphobic for example - it's a biological fact.

thirdfiddle · 27/04/2023 19:15

Oh I thought Radcliffe was just small. That sounds like really weird comments and I don't consider them feminist or GC at all.

But there's still nothing wrong or transphobic about the BBC not pretending he's taller. So are the TRAs saying the BBC should have chosen a different picture also being transphobic? If the reasoning is it might be considered to make her look trans, so what? Unless they think that's a bad thing somehow.

RoseslnTheHospital · 27/04/2023 19:21

This is a really bizarre thing to focus on and blame feminists for. As far as I can see no feminist has suggested that Erin is a transwoman, or whatever the jibes are. As far as I can see it's a cheap shot made by your typical online trolling commentator because of his previous comments about transgender ideology.

BornBlonde · 28/04/2023 01:23

I'm so condescending - won't let my small children play with matches or knives.

Oh wait I'm just a good parent who would not let my children medically transition

SidewaysOtter · 28/04/2023 07:23

I’d say the reaction to this photograph in terms of the accusations of “transphobia” for printing a picture of Erin being taller, shows why it does. Despite having actually had a baby, Radcliffe’s partner is being labelled as trans because she doesn’t fit the stereotype of what a woman is according to gender ideology. Too tall, certainly taller than her partner, perhaps masculine features - sorry love, you don’t match the criteria so you can’t possibly be a woman.

Attitudes like that absolutely do harm all women because it reduces womanhood to a set of attributes which we are expected to fit into. Add in the TRA mindset that you become a woman by putting on makeup, heels and a frock (thus indicating that that’s what a woman is expected to wear) and those are harmful stereotypes we’ve spent decades trying to get rid of.

That's not transphobia affecting all women, it's gender ideology.

Only here could TRAs get blamed for transphobes accidentally slipping into misogyny.

SidewaysOtter · 28/04/2023 08:34

You misunderstand me. I’m saying that the idea that it’s “transphobic” to print that picture of Radcliffe’s partner shows that this ideology - including the definition of “transphobia” as it’s used here - is harmful to women because of how it is defining how a woman should be. Radcliffe’s partner could have every physical attribute that would stereotypically be defined as male but if she’s a biological woman then she’s a woman and nothing will change that.

Clymene · 28/04/2023 09:24

Oh sorry, yes I did misunderstand!

TRAs = MRAs.

They are the same.

CremeEggQueen · 28/04/2023 15:35

Yes, but screw the fact she can face abuse for not being womanly 🙄 enough, though?
That does hurt us all as it plays into what a woman "should" look like, how they should behave etc

Well they've had the baby now maybe this will make him grow up and change his tune.

Nooo, let her play with the chainsaw - kids know what they want.
