Since the video went viral, the company has taken down its website and Facebook and made their Instagram private. I wonder why?

They may well be @RufustheSpeculatingreindeer, given most of them would probably describe themselves as ‘sex positive’. Sex work is work and all that.

We are not here to sexualise or prey upon your children. We are here to be representation for LGBTQ+ people, different gender identities, and you children grow up with acceptance, tolerance and an open mind.

I thought everyone supposedly has a gender identity (although no-one will ever explain how you are supposed to find out what yours is)? So everyone kids meet is representation for different gender identities - Not sure why fetish gear has to be involved?

"Acceptance" is such a mealy-mouthed term. Kids accept whatever seems routine to them. Poverty, racism, misogyny - let's at least discern what is acceptable and what isn't?

I think they’ve been groomed. Most people follow others’ lead and trust, rather than questioning and making up their own mind. There are too many decisions we have to make every day and I think some people just crave that mental load to be taken off and squash down any reservations .

I remember when my kids were small I was at a crossing, when a naked bike ride went past and it took ages - it felt like minutes long. Some of them weren’t just cycling- they were standing on the pedals and holding on with one hand, their bodies (male) very much angled to present themselves for the people stopped at the junction. I remember my thoughts running through my head, ‘Is the damaging? Would it be worse to cover their eyes or make a big deal? Oh they’re only kids and they don’t have any context’. I didn’t really know what to do or say. I think I laughed it off. My kids didn’t say anything at the time, but they remembered all these years later.

I believe the parents probably had that kind of blank feeling of not knowing what to do, because the whole situation must feel so bizarre, but because it is condoned by the organisers and the other participants and the mainstream media, etc, they just laugh along. ‘It’s just a bit of fun’.

Call me old fashioned - but this is repugnant, where are social services in all this.

With the inevitable rise in LGBT hate crimes the default position is "far-right" (an excuse now so common that people against ULEZ are called it too), but when you see stuff like this they're promoting such a negative image.

It is shameful that the man is a self-appointed representative of the LGBT+ community and that his dangling on ropes in bondage gear is apparently representative of gay men. Any gay child growing up will be full of self-hatred after seeing that and made to believe that is what being gay is about.

Thank god there's groups like Gays Against Groomers to show that there is another side and a responsible side.

I’ve just read that article and voted on the live poll: “Are drag shows suitable for children?” The Times is more right leaning, I believe. If only 61% of The Times readers think drag is unsuitable, the mind boggles at the percentage of the population as a whole think drag is suitable for children. There has been an Overton window shift, I think, presumably off the back of drag being everywhere on mainstream tv.

That poll has been up since the comment by David AAronovich a few days ago and I voted then and the split at that time was almost even, so the percentage of people opposed to it has gone up since then, I assume with this story being published.

a long time ago i accidentally attended a strip night in aid of charity (don’t ask…long story and it basically boils down to me trying to be polite) BUT it did not take me long to work out that if i clapped like a seal the naked men would leave me alone

so to the outside eye it may well appear that i was having a good time but in reality i was rethinking some of my life choices and desperate to get out

Not that this is even a trans issue but...

I think this forum is indeed a bit of an "anti trans activism" echo chamber, but it's not like it's the fault of the members. As far as I know, this place allows open discussion and both sides can make their case.

The problem for the trans activist side, is that they can't just come here and throw insults and make threats, because the forum is moderated for that. And maybe their ideas often can't stand up to scrutiny so they don't like being on a forum for the purposes of debate.

So I'm thinking that their own online spaces are "echo chambers" because they censor the fuck out of them and don't allow dissent. If this place is also a bit of an echo chamber, it's because trans-activism can't survive that well in the light of open debate.

But maybe I'm wrong. Does anyone know forums on the trans activism side that don't censor discussion?

The only reason it seems like this board is disproportionately interested in trans issues is because Mumsnet made a special board for discussions about where trans rights conflict with women’s sex based rights!

They shunt all the vaguely related topics over here (aka The Naughty Step) and as Mumsnetters often use different user names for different boards there is no way for observers to get a rounded picture.

But no, I don’t know where anyone could have a truly balanced debate because whilst many of us want to talk in depth and follow all the rabbit holes the transextremists just claim that even the gentlest questions from terves are literally genociding trans folx and thus we have to either Beeee Kiiiiiind or risk death by grease fire 🤷‍♀️

Once upon a time there was a GC debates TG subreddit but Reddit kicked off the tervish. There might be a similar Facebook group tho? Ususl caveat re: protecting one’s personal info/family photos if posting about this topic on FB.

I have asked this before and got no answer after I as assured that there are most definitely places the discussion can happen other than here. I assumed the posters are lying anytime they have said this.

I think ‘echo chamber’ is a very misused term. This is also not an “anti trans activism” board. This is a pro-woman and children board. The trans activism that maybe you refer to is an extreme version. I don’t think many, if any, people don’t support trans people having rights that don’t negatively impact women and children or other groups.

So, while people often claim that this is an echo chamber, even due to the lack of supported discussion, it really isn’t. It does allow for people with alternative views on women and children’s rights to come and discuss this freely. They are not banned. And there is no expectation for any regular poster to be welcome anyone new. Newcomers are treated the same as anyone though there seems to be this expectation that people will be kind to them because they are new.

Either way, If they don’t feel they can support their claims, that is on them. An echo chamber is an example of siloed thinking that doesn’t allow anu alternative views to be expressed and may even actively ban those posters.

MN only deleted posts that are not within the guidelines. Usually those making negative blanket statements or personal attacks. But never just because someone ‘disagrees’.

You are correct though, the lack of evidence to support extremist views of gender identity doesn’t mean this board is an echo chamber. And those who cannot recognise they have nothing but emotional manipulation to support their claims are usually the only ones falling back on using that term.

Yes. It's only interested in trans issues & ideology because of their impact on women and children. And let's not forget, we were shunted into this corner.

Is it an echo chamber? No. There is nuance as posters are on different stages of their journey. There are also posters who argue against the majority view. Unfortunately for them, the regular posters here are excellent at pulling apart their arguments, which does not stand up to close scrutiny. Plenty of people try though.

I am not sure how this show is LGBT representation. Surely it is just entertainment, albeit rather inappropriate for children? No more representstive of gay people than pole dancets or cirque de soleil performers are of most straight people.

Is it representative of my close gay male friend who is a gentel soul whose main passions are history, stamp collecting and gardening?

Or my lesbian colleague who is in to sewing, local politics and choral music?

Or our trans woman friend who is a passionate football and comedy fan.

LGBT people come in all shapes, sizes and interests, just like everyone else.

Surely that is the thing we teach children?
