A woman has been found guilty of raping two women when she was a man. Happened in Scotland. She hasn’t been sentenced yet - but where will she serve her sentence? In the womens prison?!
This is going to mean some serious discussions and tough times for the Scottish government. But it was surely only a matter of time before something like this happened.

Still says she mind you.

I note that the BBC headline has now changed to 'Rapist guilty of attacking women before gender change' - an improvement!

No mention of which prison the rapist has been remanded to however.

Sorry I have now skimmed tft, I see it was a change! Ffs!

BewareTheMonstrousRegiment · 24/01/2023 18:11

I think I've reached boiling point.

I have started a thread about this thread in AIBU - www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4727545-aibu-in-thinking-aibu-is-the-correct-place-for-this-thread

Let's see if we can wake a few more people up!

Calmdown14 · 24/01/2023 18:12

While I feel very sorry that the victims had this dragged out for months (the trial had been abandoned first time because he was too upset by being photographed to appear!) This is now brilliantly timed.

It is waking people up big time as a result of the GRA.

I congratulate the photographer for that important image which conveys the story better than the word soup the reporters have been forced to use.

This appeared on Twitter.

Omg that picture of the rapist.

and he’s going into a women’s prison

the SNP greens and labour in Scotland this is what they do

BobDear · 24/01/2023 18:16

Cornton Vale women's prison in Stirling

It's a fucking disgrace. Anyone who has been complicit in getting us to a place where a man who raped women is locked up with women, should be ashamed of themselves.

r/Scotland has heavily downvoted this story and users have called for mods to delete it

Apologies @SinnerBoy

None required. Unfortunately, not a few men are still quite wooden between the ears on this.

duc748 · 24/01/2023 18:29

That photo (the full photo, not the cropped version on the BBC website) should be sent to every SNP and Green MSP, Westminster Labour MPs, etc.

"You OK with this? Yes or no?".

Calmdown14 · 24/01/2023 18:30

@BewareTheMonstrousRegiment I have got so used to the informed discussion on here that it should be interesting (but a sadly depressing start).

Good to try. I am getting much more bold to state this publicly, even though I do work in a very captured sector

FrippEnos · 24/01/2023 18:31

onitlikeacarbonnet · 24/01/2023 17:21

I can understand that tbh.
it feels rather odd to know that my views on this are more aligned with Tory ideology when I generally used to think of myself as pretty left of centre.
It upsets me greatly that I have felt unable to cast a meaningful vote the last few times I’ve had the opportunity, purely based on my beliefs on this subject.

But the main part of my question is still why trans folk aren’t screaming ‘not in my name’ too.

IMO its because they also get shouted down and ostracised from various groups for being transphobic, because as far as the vocal group is concerned their opinions are the only ones that matter.

Look at how all this started with #nodebate,

Thank you. I’ll take a look.

BBC radio reported that the rapist first came to trial in 2019 as Adam, but I surmise has since discovered his 'true identity'.

But surely than never happens Hmm

I wonder what made this rapist realise this and if the transfer to women's prison had anything to do with it?

SinnerBoy · 24/01/2023 18:44

Almost 3 years to come to trial? FFS!

duc748 · Today 18:29

Depressingly, I suspect strongly that their answer would be, "Why are you obsessed with her ladypenis, you massive bigots!"

Horizons83 · 24/01/2023 18:46

And now they have also added where the rapist has been sent to jail. Getting there BBC!

EsmaCannonball · 24/01/2023 18:48

The laydee-wig to hide the wannabe gangsta tattoos but the spray-on leggings to show off the outline of the cock in high-definition is pretty much the transgender movement in one photograph, isn't it?

I wonder if and when a certain placard holder is going on trial in Scotland and if that fragrant lovely will also be placed in a women's jail?

BobDear · 24/01/2023 18:51

My only hope is that the absolute outrage that we are all feeling will translate to more people speaking out. My DD (18) usually struggles to call this sort of bullshit out for what it is (ideology) as all her peers immediately descend into calling her transphobic and generally shaming her. She has just posted on her social media to ask who is ok with this and can they please explain their rationale. Quite a few more 'likes' than usual....

Please god, if nothing else, let the sheer madness of this open a dialogue where people don't get shut down for daring to speak the truth.

KatMcBundleFace · 24/01/2023 18:52

Radio 4 had it as headline news
"Transgender woman rapes two women when she was a man"

Tut tut Beeb, she's always been a woman right? Stonewall will have some points off you for that.

And if any women in the prison are assaulted by this man, then Nicola Sturgeon should stand accused as a facilitator - not to mention an utter traitor to her sex.

Absolutely!
I just hope some lawyers manage to get him to F. Out of there before some poor women are abused.

Maybe the bold Nicola would like to share her office with him.

@EsmaCannonball Female prison officers do have to search transgender women prisoners

They really need a few male officers who are prepared to declare themselves as "gender fluid", who will be available in "girl mode" to do intimate body searches on these male-bodied people.

While this may not be indecent exposure, surely it is an offence against public decency?

He's effectively exposing his genitals front of women, children - everyone. If he wasn't claiming to be a woman, he wouldn't be allowed to get away with this.

happydappy2 · 24/01/2023 19:03

I wish the prison governor would speak up and protect the female prisoners....

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 24/01/2023 19:07

Say what you like about the Daily Mail but they are running this as their headline story tonight. So many people will read this now. The fact that Bryson looked so ‘masculine’ prior to their epiphany, and the large tattoo in particular are things that I really think have made more people sit up and take notice of this. Bryson looks menacing, looks dangerous. I have a feeling changes will be made around where Bryson is going to be imprisoned.

HufflepuffRavenclaw · 24/01/2023 19:25

Agree that the best move by the Mail is showing the pictures and allowing readers to clearly draw their own conclusions.

Very interesting article from MBM on the policy of the Scottish Prison Service on placement of transgender prisoners:

murrayblackburnmackenzie.org/2023/01/13/what-does-the-scottish-prison-service-really-think-about-the-gender-recognition-reform-scotland-bill-2/

Since 2014, the policy of the SPS has been that "prisoners should be accommodated on the basis of self-declared identity, subject to a risk assessment."

Would love to see a copy of the Risk Assessment that allowed him to be placed in a female prison.
