A woman has been found guilty of raping two women when she was a man. Happened in Scotland. She hasn’t been sentenced yet - but where will she serve her sentence? In the womens prison?!
This is going to mean some serious discussions and tough times for the Scottish government. But it was surely only a matter of time before something like this happened.

Where are all the churches and other religious groups on all this surely one of them must be uncomfortable with it?
Why are none of them speaking out?

Don't start me on with that!

The C of E - a church which refuses to recognise marriage of same-sex couples (people who are attracted to members of their own sex, as God made them) - is quite happy with transitioning men.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11591517/Britains-non-binary-CofE-priest-says-God-guided-truth.html

I'm a Reader (a licensed minister) and a recent Reader magazine (our official publication) had an article by a transwoman and how wonderful it is to be accepted by the church and the only fly in the ointment is that "she" can't be "married" to "her" (present real life) wife because they would be a lesbian couple. This is very difficult for both of them, apparently.

There is so much wrong with this I don't know where to start.

I don't know where other faiths stand on this matter, but this is destroying the church I have loved all my life.

BaronMunchausen · 28/01/2023 23:29

@Emotionalsupportviper was that Bingo, the first non-binary gender-queer priest in the Church of England?

Sugarfree23 · 28/01/2023 23:51

@Emotionalsupportviper what a twisted mind fuck.

So many bit of that are just wrong.

Thanks to the posted who linked the Wee Frees article. I did think they'd have something to say even if the CofS was taken by the politically correctness of TWAW.

I'm surprised the Islamic and Sikh communities aren't more out spoken. Sad as it might sound sometimes I think politicians get so worried about being called racist that what they say carries more weight than the secular society and Christian churches* *

Myotherpetisamouse · 29/01/2023 07:47

@Sugarfree23 just to clarify, the Free Church of Scotland isn’t actually the “wee frees” , that would be the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland which is a stricter offshoot of the Free Church. And then there’s the Free Presbyterian Church Continuing which is a further offshoot of that! It’s a bit of a complicated history. 🙂

I see Sturgeon has said she won’t intervene in other cases and it’s down to the prison service to risk asses in the future. Always passing the bunch as ever, so she can say “It wisnae me” when yet another woman is assaulted.

Then she is comprehensively fucked.

Bryson's lawyers will have her on toast. She has blocked one from the women's estate on nothing more than the grounds of 'everybody shouted at me'. She is not admitting that the policy is wrong, so the decision was personal and totally incoherent. Scott is far, far worse than Bryson in terms of total unacceptability in the women's estate, and she's abandoning the women's estate to her lousy policy which as we know, through 'careful risk assessment' would not say no to Jack the bloody Ripper.

What a total hash that woman has made.

I felt sickened reading the accounts given by the female beauty students of being compelled to have this person around them on their course and being compelled to refer to him as a woman, all the while being very aware of his “muscularity”, ie they were scared of him.

They could be our daughters, sisters, young female family members forced to “put up and shut up” because the rapist…identifies as a woman. God forbid you remind him that he’s a man - he’ll get angry and call you a “transphobe”.

It’s disgraceful. I’m well and truly sickened by what the women had to suffer.

Parisj · 29/01/2023 10:28

Leaving the buck with prison governors (or hospital managers or nurses or head teachers) is simply not good enough in a climate where people are being hounded out of their jobs and into silence. I hope that they find a way to keep the heat on Sturgeon and force this issue into wider public consciousness without endangering women.

Needmoresleep · 29/01/2023 11:29

She chose not to support two sensible Labour ammendments. For no obvious reason other than intransigence. I hope the chickens are on their way home to roost.

And doesn't it just illustrate what we've said from the start?

A male in this situation has free licence to behave any bloody way they feel like, and women are told to shut up, be kind, to mind is transphobic, boundaries are transphobic.

And if afterwards it escapes into the press that the male was actually an abusive criminal who got off on using women in this way, and that those women were absolutely right to protest?

Well there'll be a few mumbles of 'well they weren't really trans so it doesn't matter'.

It's the whole 'well if you get hurt you can report it' thing. It really lays bare the absolute misogyny and willingness to let anything happen to females so long as males never have to hear the word no.

Just fuck this. No more.

SirChenjins · 29/01/2023 17:02

Breaking news - the SPS has paused all movement of trans prisoners (ie men) until they complete their review. Hopefully this is the start of some serious rethinking by those idiots in Govt at Holyrood.

MoirasSaggyBundles · 29/01/2023 17:25

That's fantastic news! The whole SPS thought process and risk assessment procedure (only assessing the risk to the transwoman) needs to be thrown in the bin.

I gather Corton Vale is closing shortly for a refurb, so I hope the warrior women of Scotland are keeping an eye on the SPS to make sure they don't get up to any mixing of the sexes in the name of temporary expediency.

Chersfrozenface · 29/01/2023 17:29

Per the BBC News website

"Justice Secretary Keith Brown said the "urgent lessons learned review" into the Bryson case would be completed by Friday.
The prison service was already undertaking a wider review of its transgender policy, which will continue.
Until that ends, Mr Brown said:
No transgender person already in custody with a history of violence against women will be moved from the male to female estate
No newly convicted or remanded transgender prisoner with any history of violence against women (including sexual offences) will be placed in the female estate.
Any exceptional cases will require the approval of Scottish ministers, he said.
"I understand that the issue of any trans woman being convicted of violent and sexual offences is a highly emotive subject and that the public concern is understandable," Mr Brown said.
"As the first minister pointed out last week, we must not allow any suggestion to take root that trans women pose an inherent threat to women.
"Predatory men are the risk to women. However, as with any group in society, a small number of trans women will offend and be sent to prison.
"Therefore, I hope that the measures.... will offer reassurance in the ongoing ability of the prison service to manage trans individuals and ensure the safety of all prisoners.""

Not good enough. NO male bodied prisoners in women's prisons or units. NONE.

SirChenjins · 29/01/2023 17:35

I think we have to be realistic - at this stage Brown is not going to say no males in female prisons. That should be the ultimate aim though - this conflation of gender and sex has to stop.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/01/2023 17:35

Predatory men are the risk to women

They could have saved themselves a lot of time and trouble if they'd listened to us over the years.

SirChenjins · 29/01/2023 17:36

Listened to women?

You know that’s not how it works.

Saucy little minx, isn't he?

Yes - I was glad to see some sense from the Wee Frees. Didn't surprise me and heartened me somewhat.

Sorry - I hadn't seen your response when I posted mine. I had confused the two as well.
