Who would you like to see come out as GC?

There are a few outspoken women, who I secretly daydream they’re GC. Top of my list would be Oprah. I’d be thrilled if she was a closet GCer. She would shut up all those people who spout crap like “TWAW just like black women are women” and other guff. But in reality, I doubt this will happen.

Also on my list, in no particular order is
Jenner Lawrence, Sharon Horton (I know she’s friends with Aisling Bea so it’s unlikely), Meryl Streep. I’ll add a few more names when I remember.

I think Carrie Fisher would have been GC, she was very smart and understood the issues women face.

And Victoria Wood too, who had a good handle on how size and class issues impacted woman (I miss VW, so incredibly talented).

Who would you love to see talk out about this?

What’s Aisling Bea said?

Teenyliving · 05/10/2022 17:49

And I would like Emma Thompsonbto come out and acknowledge that women don’t have dicks. But I very much doubt she ever will

Teenyliving · 05/10/2022 17:51

Oh and Sara pascoe

Baldieheid · 05/10/2022 17:53

I think it would be nice to see the cowardly Harry Potter cast members dine on some humble pie. I'd enjoy that.

Lottapianos · 05/10/2022 17:56

'Oh and Sara pascoe'

She's fully TWAW sadly

Sharon Horgan for me too - she's fab. I follow her on IG and she has no pronouns in bio or any of that nonsense. At this point, I think that not having pronouns in bio is a good hint that someone is GC but can't come out with it

OwlBarn · 05/10/2022 17:58

What does GC stand for?

IcakethereforeIam · 05/10/2022 17:59

Keir StarmerSad, it'd be nice to have someone to vote for.

IcakethereforeIam · 05/10/2022 17:59

Oh, and Peppa Pig.

BettyFilous · 05/10/2022 18:05

Sigourney Weaver

CentaureaCyanus · 05/10/2022 18:06

I think if Mary Beard made a GC comment I would be happy. I would quite like Janina Ramirez to but she's already announced her willingness to include men in her definition of women and is v friendly with the lost cause of Alice Roberts so I don't hold out much hope.

Amongst other things, Aisling Bea shared a written statement from stand-up comedian Sarah Keyworth, stating: “From the lovely, brilliant stand up @sarahkcomedy to the author @jk_rowling, who created a lead character who was told he was one thing but could absolutely be another if he wanted by a magical hat. Even the sorting hat saw nuance & was aware it was infallible defining people.”

Serena Williams
Stephen King

Caitlin Moran - she's gotta be, just too much to lose?

Philip Pullman was a bitter bitter disappointment so it would be quite something for him to do an about turn.

I'm being greedy!

continueorterminate · 05/10/2022 18:09

Pink. She's hinted towards it but subtly enough that she's not been piled on

Chaotica · 05/10/2022 18:16

Another one for Keir Starmer (and a few other prominent people in the Labour party). Please.

Another one for Keir Starmer (and a few other prominent people in the Labour party). Please.

Obviously, Keir isn't a woman (if the OP is asking for GC women). Unless, by his own definition, he identifies as a woman, of course.

Speedweed · 05/10/2022 18:25

I'd like to see some high profile gay men reveal their true feelings at the idea of dating a man with a vagina... Elton, Tom Daley, Philip Schofield...

JaneorEleven · 05/10/2022 18:26

My GC daydreams have only women on the list, but I’d be delighted if prominent men spoke out too. Keir Starmer would be very welcome indeed, but it’s never gonna happen.

Has Pink hinted? I haven't seen that. Caitlin Moran surely must be.

What does GC mean?!?

amter · 05/10/2022 18:31

Every medical professional. Every psychologist. Every sportsperson. Every teacher. Every politician. Everybody.

JaneorEleven · 05/10/2022 18:32

GC = Gender Critical

Interesting that there are people still totally oblivious to the discussion, despite the news and the reputation MN has for it's feminism.

ThatCheeseIsMine · 05/10/2022 18:33

I suspect Mary Beard is on board from thing's she's said.

Someone like Oprah could really help to change people's minds on gender ideology if she was inclined, but I can see why anyone with a high profile in the US might not be ready to do that. Yet.

GC = Gender Critical

Ah thank you! Sorry to be clueless!

Clymene · 05/10/2022 18:34

Gender critical. Doesn't believe transwomen are women (and isn't afraid to say it as no one actually believes humans can change sex).

Men who have hired women to act as brood mares like Tom Daley won't ever speak up.

I can't think of any one person I'd like to be honest. I'd like everyone to stop pretending

TeenDivided · 05/10/2022 18:34

Clare Balding, Sandi Toksvig, Stephen Fry,
Brian Cox, Steve Backshall
Andy Murray
