Who would you like to see come out as GC?

There are a few outspoken women, who I secretly daydream they’re GC. Top of my list would be Oprah. I’d be thrilled if she was a closet GCer. She would shut up all those people who spout crap like “TWAW just like black women are women” and other guff. But in reality, I doubt this will happen.

Also on my list, in no particular order is
Jenner Lawrence, Sharon Horton (I know she’s friends with Aisling Bea so it’s unlikely), Meryl Streep. I’ll add a few more names when I remember.

I think Carrie Fisher would have been GC, she was very smart and understood the issues women face.

And Victoria Wood too, who had a good handle on how size and class issues impacted woman (I miss VW, so incredibly talented).

Who would you love to see talk out about this?

Fi Glover and Jane Garvey

MsTSwift · 05/10/2022 20:11

We have to hope someone like Emma Chsmberlain comes out. No never heard of her either but my teens hang on her every word…

Oh and Timothy Chalamet, Harry Styles and Florence Pugh. Dreaming on here!

Jess Phillips. Yvette Cooper.
They won't but I'd love to see it. Angela Raynor wouldn't. She's captured.

bellinisurge · 05/10/2022 20:27

And Brian Cox. His wife is - loud and clear on Twitter.

Cuck00soup · 05/10/2022 20:30

Therese Coffey. Would make a difference to patients if she told it like it is.

Delphinium20 · 05/10/2022 20:31

Kamala Harris, Sandi Toksvig, Oprah, Michelle AND Barak Obama, Dolly Parton, Beyonce, Adele, Taylor Swift, Billie Eillish (get at least one from every generation). And Tom Hanks.

Delphinium20 · 05/10/2022 20:32

Agree w/ Timothy Chalamet and Harry Styles.

And Emma Thompson.

LovinglifeAF · 05/10/2022 20:32

King Charles
The Prince and Princess of Wales
Zara Tindall
Keir Starmer
Andy Murray
Grace Dent

bellinisurge · 05/10/2022 20:34

Andy Murray must be. I know we don't all follow our parents but his mum is a legend

MegaPaws · 05/10/2022 20:35

Angelina Jolie. Her daughter went through a "boy" phase, she and Brad went along with it, kind of humouring her, but resisted the whole Puberty Blockers narrative. And now Shiloh has emerged as a beautiful, feminine young lady. Imagine the carnage if they had gone along the Affirmation route...

LovinglifeAF · 05/10/2022 20:35

Richard Osman

Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders
Steve Coogan
Caitlin Moran and Grace Dent

Jennifer Saunders shared That Essay by JKR, so she is. My other evidence is her entire comedy career but especially the Ab Fab movie. I'm slightly amazed they were allowed to make some of the jokes they made in that film! God I love her.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/10/2022 20:37

Harry Styles is a good one to go public on this - perfect example of a man who is comfortable exploring fashion and lifestyle that sits outside of stereotype, and not claiming its because he was born in the "wrong body"

Stephen Fry surely cannot have such a dim view of religion and yet buy into GI. I’m not even a big fan of his but I’d be so disappointed if he was taken in by this.

Weirdly, a significant number of the aggressive kind of atheist (you know the type) are all in on gender ideology. I used to think the same as you, but now I think some people just like feeling superior and haranguing people. It's not always a sign of scepticism and critical thinking, that's for sure.

HorseInTheHouse · 05/10/2022 20:52

Not that I think Stephen Fry is that kind of atheist. He does have a history of being rather thoughtless about women, and I think he is mildly misogynistic in the way you often see with gay men. My guess is that he wants to be nice to everyone and probably doesn't really see the issue for women's rights. On the other hand he's clearly concerned about problems with free speech and the coddling of university students etc, so if he were to speak up I would guess it would be from that angle.

Baldieheid · 05/10/2022 20:53

One person who could easily have rocked the boat quite wildly is Banksy. Political statements are very much Banksy's currency, so have there been any Banksys making a statement, for either "side"?

Biscuitsneeded · 05/10/2022 20:54

I'm fairly sure Lucy Mangan gets it.

Musomama1 · 05/10/2022 20:55

Oh cool, I like Brian Cox's wife and good for Robert Webb.

For some reason I'm convinced Richard Osman would be.

I constantly read some of these stories in a Charlie Brooker Screenwipe end of days kind of style. I would love him to do something GC, it would just be awesome. I don't know his views but I can't see how he wouldn't be GC.

DameMaud · 05/10/2022 21:00

Agree Musomama. I just can't imagine Charlie Brooker not seeing through it all.

LovinglifeAF · 05/10/2022 21:06

Davina McCall surely after all the stuff she’s done on menopause

LovinglifeAF · 05/10/2022 21:07

Noel Fielding

(Ive realised I’m just listing people I like)

FruHagen · 05/10/2022 21:07

Julia Davies - actress and writer of Nighty Night and many other dark comedies, and her husband Julian Barret from The Mighty Bosh.

They must be GC.

Also what about Jo Brand, I believe she is rather woke though.

Julian Clary

I wish George Michael was still alive, I am certain he would be GC.
