Who would you like to see come out as GC?

There are a few outspoken women, who I secretly daydream they’re GC. Top of my list would be Oprah. I’d be thrilled if she was a closet GCer. She would shut up all those people who spout crap like “TWAW just like black women are women” and other guff. But in reality, I doubt this will happen.

Also on my list, in no particular order is
Jenner Lawrence, Sharon Horton (I know she’s friends with Aisling Bea so it’s unlikely), Meryl Streep. I’ll add a few more names when I remember.

I think Carrie Fisher would have been GC, she was very smart and understood the issues women face.

And Victoria Wood too, who had a good handle on how size and class issues impacted woman (I miss VW, so incredibly talented).

Who would you love to see talk out about this?

Now I've thought some more I'd like to add Deborah Cameron, and the Labour party in general would be fab!

Etinoxaurus · 05/10/2022 19:14

Did we see Kaitlyn/ Caitlin Jenners post?
That was a surprise, but thinking about it it’s more from a reactionary/ Republican stance.

WandaWomblesaurus · 05/10/2022 19:15

Emma Watson.

Quite a few men are gender critical but they come across as very white wing conservative “men do this and women do this”. This is especially in the states.

There aren’t many public people who are seen as open minded and liberal who are also gc.

TeenDivided · 05/10/2022 19:16

Every teaching union.
Ofsted.
Whoever the current Education secretary is (can't keep up)

Jenny Murray ( think she already is)
Daisy May cooper ditto above

She many more but my recall goes to shit with names

DMC ? Is she?

Most gay men I’ve seen publicly are very supportive of twaw as they’re so protective of anyone who doesn’t fit in to a heteronormative society. You don’t have to want to have sex with someone with the ‘wrong genitals’ but some people wont mind.

DameMaud · 05/10/2022 19:19

Jenni Murray def is: www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-11259659/JENNI-MURRAY-Sir-Keir-betraying-women-Labour-fought-for.html

I'd love Charlie Brooker to do a GC Black Mirror episode.

Be good too, to see a list in one place, of all the public people we know are GC (aside from the big names maybe) Comforting to have a sense of number. It is so dystopian feeling to see so many people I have held in esteem for intelligence, wit, creativity, being so incurious.

Just remembered a couple more people.

Victoria Corey Mitchell seems really sharp, surely she’d be GC. Hilary Clinton too, if it’s not too much to ask.

VCM almost definitely is. You should have seen her rant about the difference between male and female swimmers.

soddingspiderseason · 05/10/2022 19:24

David Attenborough.

UWhatNow · 05/10/2022 19:24

Surely someone with some clout to gave some influence on it? i.e. Mr Elon Musk who has just bought the main anti-women platform…

PM - Liz Truss?

Some of the major youth ‘influencers’?

I’m praying, on behalf of girls and women, for the whole charade to be exposed - like the emperors new clothes - it just needs the right person in the crowd to point it out.

zen1 · 05/10/2022 19:24

Yvette Cooper, David Mitchell, Shirley Bassey, Kylie, Madonna, Liza Minnelli

Stacey Dooley and Emma Bunton follow the Mermaids Insta so they'll be hard nos

Though I'd imagine their PR is advising them to unfollow quicksharpish given latest events

DameMaud · 05/10/2022 19:28

I've got a vague recollection of Robert Webb (of Mitchell and Webb) challenging/questioning child transition somewhere years ago... And maybe having to apologise after? Does anyone else remember this?

JudyGemstone · 05/10/2022 19:31

Robert Webb defo is. Out and proud.
I’d expect the Coren-Mitchells are too.

I remember Stacey giving her winnings from some celebrity quiz show to Gendered Intelligence a while back.

I'd like to see some high profile gay men reveal their true feelings at the idea of dating a man with a vagina... Elton, Tom Daley, Philip Schofield...

Hilary Clinton definitely is- I saw an interview with her and Chelsea where they talked about the differences in their feminism. Chelsea is full on TWAW, Hilary has a brain and eyes in her head- it was obviously an area of disagreement.

For the most part at this stage, if a celeb hasn’t come out and waved the little 🏳️‍⚧️flag during one of the (many) trans rememberence/coming out/ pride days, or put pronouns in their bios, I’d say they’re not on board the ideology train.

ThatCheeseIsMine · 05/10/2022 19:54

Stephen Fry surely cannot have such a dim view of religion and yet buy into GI. I’m not even a big fan of his but I’d be so disappointed if he was taken in by this.

What did pink say?

I could be interpreting it wrong, but the speech she gave at an awards ceremony was awesome. Aimed at her daughter who was told she looked like a boy and was ugly. So pink lists all the fabulous gender-stereotype challenging artists such as David Bowie and Annie Lennox. Lots of praise of people who embraced who they are and didn't care if they weren't fashionably beautiful but we're androgynously beautiful. I watched that as a gc feminist and thought she's saying it without saying it. Also she's a gay icon and hasn't rainbow washed anything or put her bloody pronouns anywhere.

If I'm wrong, please don't tell me! I adore her!!

FirstandLastBorn · 05/10/2022 19:59

Also my daughters GCSE biology teacher. Or any biology teacher.

Agreed. Luckily my DC's biology teacher says at start of term every year : "just to remind you, we talk about biological sex in biology, not gender".
