Oh, some football too then - quick shoehorn!

CatsOperatingInGangs · 23/05/2022 10:33

Another mention of football chat with the clerks. Is this sex stereotyping at its best?
“oh me and the lads don’t do gossip, just bants about the footie”

I've been away and keeping half an eye on this thread, just got caught up on Tribunal Tweets. It's intense! And yes Allison is a staunch fighter and win or lose she's turned over a big rock and exposed what's underneath. Never thought I'd see a tribunal discuss the cotton ceiling!

This is all history in the making. For me the make-or-break legal case for women will be Sarah Summers' Sussex Rape Crisis case. Maya Forstater made it possible to talk about it, she and Allison Bailley (and others) are setting the foundations. But Sussex Rape Crisis / Survivors' Network will be a case that women can't afford to lose.

Sussex Survivors' Network and presumably the coucil who fund them imagine that they are meeting women's needs by offering three mixed-sex groups and no women-only group at all. That is what women were promised wouldn't happen. If this is legally OK then it will be a huge defeat for women across the UK. It will be a precedent.

Anyway everyone, hope it all goes well today. Go Allison!

I haven't heard of this. Is it ongoing or in the offing?

Mrskettleson · 23/05/2022 10:33

Place marking!

ickky · 23/05/2022 10:32

It was all football. Fuck off

my reaction too. that sounds so false as if it were planned and scripted. could backfire as it is obvious bollocks

CatsOperatingInGangs · 23/05/2022 10:31

MW says people at GC don’t really socialise due to pressure at work. Really??

Didn't he just say he prefers not to but others do.

Penguintears · 23/05/2022 10:34

The fact that MW was bothered by interruptions so much that he worked from home is clear evidence that it was a lively, chatty, collegiate place where people talked to each other.

Birdsweepsin · 23/05/2022 10:35

Did you see that goal by Saka just before half time last night? Totally transphobic wasn't it!

Gabcsika · 23/05/2022 10:36

MW says the only time he spoke to the criminal clerks when they would berate him for his team's performance in FOOTBALL (he is at pains to stress).

A call back to the clerk earlier who sais "Oh we don't gossip, we just talk about FOOTBALL, mainly."

I smell shenanigans. It seems strategic to me.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 23/05/2022 10:37

Yes he did, Signalbox.

He said prefers not to have an 'open door' policy at work, but others did prefer a more 'collegiate atmosphere'.
BC's phrase...i don't use the word 'collegiate ' nearly enough.

JeanGabin · 23/05/2022 10:37

Well how embarrassing. I'm in now, I think I must have used an old link to Maya's tribunal 😫

Mmmnotsure · 23/05/2022 10:38

Disclaimer, women can be interested in football too, but
what kind of a chambers/clerks set up is this in that all anyone can interact with the clerks about socially is football. Possibly begs the question c all barristers fe/male treated the same if it's still such a boys' club.

ESV - twitter.com/SarahSurviving is the person in question.

CriticalCondition · 23/05/2022 10:39

MW's comment about his only non-work interaction with the clerks being when they ribbed him about his football team's performance was accompanied by the most expressive face he's made so far - a sort of wry 'ha ha'. I think he wanted that comment to have some impact.

Emotionalsupportviper · 23/05/2022 10:42

Birdsweepsin · 23/05/2022 10:35

Literally violence, I thought.

What a bigot! Ref should have shown him a card.

nauticant · 23/05/2022 10:44

MW claiming that he gave no weight to Tom Wainwright's claim that LGB Alliance is "anti-trans". Unconvincing.

Emotionalsupportviper · 23/05/2022 10:44

Thanks, @EmbarrassingHadrosaurus - to it.I'll keep an eye out for that. I've found the Twitter relating

tabbycatstripy · 23/05/2022 10:44

I do enjoy AH’s bewildered pantomime.

Emotionalsupportviper · 23/05/2022 10:45

Sorry - don't know how the "to it" jumped a line. Wish there was an edit button

Ameanstreakamilewide · 23/05/2022 10:45

The LGB Alliance isn't 'anti' anything, they are simply pro 'LGB'.

Why is that so difficult to parse??

Yet again, for the umpteenth time, someone at GCC is saying that once they were aware of a twitter storm, their priority was not to look into the cause of the twitter storm, that is what AB had done that had led to it.

I just can't understand how they think this is a reasonable approach.

tabbycatstripy · 23/05/2022 10:49

I wonder if the outcome will be that the ET decides in AB’s favour because of their sheer negligence in dealing with the issues.

malloo · 23/05/2022 10:50

"I didn't know what a twitter pile on was" - really?!
