Lammy… again!

Apparently an adult male can get a cervix through hormones and surgery!

Who knew?

I’m equally embarrassed for him and bloody livid that this moron is in government.

Ewww, it’s all a bit redolent of the US Republican Party…the common denominator being they’re old, white, (identifying as) heterosexual males with no perception of reality and, it would seem, no education in biology! Do you think a researcher gave him the fake factoid as a joke?!
PeriChristmas · 30/09/2021 07:32

@endofagain

I wish the sensible women in the labour party would set up a separate party. I would vote for them. I am disenfranchised at the moment, just as women were disenfranchised a hundred years ago. There is just a different way of achieving it this time.
You can support Lesbian Labour's Allies group.
MistandMud · 30/09/2021 07:53

?
Lammy is black, and not that old, Angie1403.

Agree he has a shaky grasp of biology though.

BlueBrush · 30/09/2021 11:37

@senua

I heard him say "commit suicide" too. Can you remember which interview he said that in?

@ColourMagic
It was in Rachel Burden's interview on Radio5, here, about 3 minutes in. Preserved forever so there's no denying it.Grin

Ah, Rachel Burden. Thanks, I was going to ask what her name was. She did a really good job in that interview and I thought she deserved to be name-checked!
BlueBrush · 30/09/2021 11:50

So, yes, just to confirm for everyone (because I went back and listened to the clip) David Lammy said "One in four trans people commit suicide." I think we all know that what he was meant to say was something like one in four trans people attempt suicide - which I think we would take issue with as a statistic anyway.

As other PPs have said on threads about these Labour interviews, I really would like journalists/interviewers to start pushing back or investigating this one-in-four statistic, mostly in terms of accuracy, but also in terms of the way it's being used in the debate, and the appropriateness of that. (i.e. This weird logical leap of "Trans people are at risk of suicide, therefore we should give them what they are requesting" and also whether there's a danger of encouraging suicidal ideation in trans people, thinking of The Samaritans' media guidelines on discussing suicide.)

This twitter thread was posted on one of the other threads about Lammy.

He was involved in the passing of the GRA in 2004. This is one of the parliamentary debates from that time.
api.parliament.uk/historic-hansard/commons/2004/feb/23/gender-recognition-bill#S6CV0418P1_20040223_HOC_222

He was intent on making everyone believe that the GRA would only ever apply to a tiny number of people and that there would be no problems. He's not new to this debate.

Cailleach1 · 30/09/2021 12:56

You'd imagine an MP would care about spouting false information on live media. What with the previous assertion that hormones and surgery give rise to a cervix in a male body (but probably not ovaries. Probably!).

And then saying he didn't say what he said. He pulled the 'talking over the interviewer' in his loud male voice and tetchy tone when she put it to him. Rachel Burden did a good job and didn't let him shut down the concerns of women.

Cailleach1 · 30/09/2021 13:04

RB: It's (concerns about women) coming from women within your own party. Do they not have a right to have a voice in this discussion?

DM: Well... .... ..., look... ... (then onto something else).

That is not a yes from DM then.

Alekto · 30/09/2021 13:26

Just watched Rosie Duffield on Glinner's youtube. Helen brought up Lammy's (?) claim that this issue doesn't come up on the doorstep. She noted that she'd had several women who asked to speak to her in confidence about this. Of course this doesn't happen to Lammy. No one thinks he would refrain from attacking them. If no one approaches him on this issue, maybe he should give that some thought.

NecessaryScene · 30/09/2021 13:53

She noted that she'd had several women who asked to speak to her in confidence about this.

Back election campaigning in 2019, before she was ever really aware of the issue, too, and before she'd ever addressed it.

dyslek · 30/09/2021 14:55

He really is a f*king arrogant pr*k isen't he Angry
Trying to have a go at the interviewer for showing him up, outright lieing about it being brought up on the doorstep and trying the race card to get out of his own mess.
The man is a f**king discrace and an embarrassment (I would say to his party but tbf that boat has pritty much sailed on all ofthem at this point)

Lottapianos · 30/09/2021 15:33

'Trying to have a go at the interviewer for showing him up, outright lieing about it being brought up on the doorstep and trying the race card to get out of his own mess.'

Yep. She called him out on his bullshit, he didn't like it, and didn't have a leg to stand on, so he got nasty. Very admirable Hmm

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 30/09/2021 15:41

Jane Clare Jones has transcribed the whole thing.

When your in a hole, stop digging!

Arrogant little man. So rude to the very polite interviewer. Not a good look. at. all.

Articus · 30/09/2021 16:19

I'm sure I wasn't the only one to raise WRs on the doorstep. My MP always tells me I overreact, exaggerate and misunderstand the issue, but I guess his consistent and insulting suggestion that gender objectors like myself need to educate themselves, would be more appropriate to be directed to his colleague Lammy.

PeriChristmas · 01/10/2021 07:52

Have you all messaged him to tell him your feelings?

[email protected]

anothermansshoes · 01/10/2021 08:00

I did a little counting

If 3.3 % of uk population is black and we have 650 mps then we would expect 21 black MPs and we have 20

This is good

Gay people are similarly present in expected numbers

We would expect 325 females . We have 220

Glad he wants to promote a fairly represented group over women

(not saying there is no racial discrimination

just want to say to mr Lammy that if you use priveledge hierarchy you need to check your privileges first

Will check my posts under this name ....

In other news

The herald in Scotland headline
" in lammy land you can grow a cervix but sadly not a brain"

No link sorry

Jaysmith71 · 01/10/2021 10:13

But they are the wrong sort of Black MPs. There are predominantly female, African by ancestry, and only one of them looks like David Lammy.

anothermansshoes · 01/10/2021 10:19

If we take the percentage of people who look like David lammy , then it seems David lammy look allies are way over represented in parliament

anothermansshoes · 01/10/2021 10:20

But I do think it's 11 female and only 9 black males which must feel really wierd if you expect to dominate

Childrenofthestones · 01/10/2021 10:34

NotBadConsidering said about Lammy.....

"So you’re saying your school has a good singing programme but is terrible at teaching biology?😆

Honestly, I despair about this guy. How can he be so stupid?"

Mmm...

BlaydonRaces · 01/10/2021 10:42
