Lammy… again!

Apparently an adult male can get a cervix through hormones and surgery!

Who knew?

I’m equally embarrassed for him and bloody livid that this moron is in government.

@DeclineandFall

Why on earth has the Labour Party not given all their politicians a line to use when this issue comes up. Its not difficult to find some way of getting them to say something whilst saying nothing dealing with this. It's like they really do believe its a niche issue, and the angry ladeez will go away. That they are so out of touch with the reality on the ground, is more worrying.
I believe that the lines that have given to them include the words; most, marginalised, abused; one-in-our; no and conflict.
PurgatoryOfPotholes · 29/09/2021 12:43

David Lammy is pursuing the same tactic on twitter now.

The climate crisis. Energy shortages. Gaps in staffing. Children’s education. Mental health. Poverty. Economic growth.

These are the issues that the public and @UKLabour are focussed on today. It is journalists not us politicians who are obsessed with talking identity politics.

twitter.com/DavidLammy/status/1443131899652853760?s=19

Is there anyone here who can clarify how women, talking about the impact on women's rights, are classified as talking identity politics, but David Lammy isn't?

Over the course of this conference, he's done trans activism, black men being under-represented in the parliamentary labour party and measures to change that, his personal identifying as a feminist (he said that!) and how women can't talk to him about the erosion of their rights today, because of the historic injustices suffered by his ancestors. (50% of whom were women. Does he know?)

I think his ID-Pol score is much higher than that of women just saying, "er David, let's not put rapists in women's prisons". Right?

Threewheeler1 · 29/09/2021 12:47

In other news, 2 new kinds of dinosaur have been found. I'm just waiting with baited breath to see if they come under the rad fem species. So exciting!

Sugaris · 29/09/2021 12:50

It’s weird. David Lammy harrumphing about “obsession with identity politics.”

Now I know how Nelson Mandela must have felt when Margaret Thatcher started calling for sanctions against Iraq.

lifeturnsonadime · 29/09/2021 12:52

It's no wonder he's in the TRA's pockets, he seems to enjoy oppression olympics as much as they do.

Who knew that black men must always be listened to on women's rights because their ancestors were once enslaved?

And the lies about suicide are just frankly disgraceful.

NapoleonOzmolysis · 29/09/2021 12:58

I think the Shadow sports minister who made a tit of herself on Women's Hour this morning also used the term "obsession with identity politics" so I assume it was on their briefing cards for today.

BabyOctopus · 29/09/2021 13:03

I work in the health sector. So what would expert biologist David Lammy suggest if I wanted to raise awareness among women of the importance of getting their regular cervical smear tests?

We’ve already established that any comms messaging targeting ‘women’ alone has been deemed appropriate.

To allow for transmen, we can say ‘women and people with a cervix’ (I’m not especially bothered by that one, albeit not as snappy and harder to fit on a poster)

For those who want to get rid of the word women altogether, there is always ‘cervix-havers.’ (I can’t be bothered to go into why this one is so offensive both from a clear-English point of view and from a feminist point of view).

And now, to top it off, Lammy has suggested that even ‘cervix-havers’ includes male-bodied people, so we can’t even use that.

So what language do we use to make sure women get their smear tests so ultimately we can prevent them from fucking dying of cervical cancer?

Absolute disgrace.

Jaysmith71 · 29/09/2021 13:03

It is absolutely all written on their cribsheets. They are like supply teachers who've been left a copy of the teacher's answer book.

Have you noticed they've stopped saying, "We have been very clear..."

Agreed. It's shameful to be honest. Women really don't matter.

THIS! They were given to exam paper over a week before the exam and STILL didn’t bother to revise!
PurgatoryOfPotholes · 29/09/2021 13:05

I'm a bit worried about the impact on Ovarian Cancer awareness as well, which is already very low.

David Lammy: "it's probably the case that transwomen don't have ovaries".

PROBABLY?!

OvaHere · 29/09/2021 13:05

Reminder that David Lammy was one of the key Labour politicians that pushed for the GRA 2004.

It's quite clear from today he must have had no real understanding back then of the demographic he was advocating for and perhaps literally thought they grew female reproductive organs.

IsitM · 29/09/2021 13:05

‘THE’ exam paper. Bah...

"It's probably the case that trans women don't have ovaries ... but a cervix, I understand, is something that you can have, following, er ... various procedures and hormone treatment and all the rest of it"

For some reason the serious way in which he delivered this expert biological explanation really tickled me Grin

Grin. He really had the “I don’t know what the fuck I’m talking about face” for that one! Twonk.
Chersfrozenface · 29/09/2021 13:14

Well, Mr Lammy, if your party based policy and messaging on what came up on the doorstep, it wouldn't have given this subject more than a moment's thought. But it based them on what TRA lobbyists and twitterati told it, and here you are.

This was in answer to the question "Is it transphobic to say only women have a cervix?"

His answer was about transwomen and whether or not they could have a cervix. So he's saying that he doesn't believe TWAW.

The 'correct' answer to this (from the TRA point of view), which only Emily Thornberry seems to have understood, is to talk about transmen and that TMAM, some of them have a cervix, so it is transphobic to say that only women have a cervix.

All those MPs talking about transwomen in answer to this question are telling us all that they don't believe that TWAW.

Seriously?? Two words spring up mind together they are not complementary. Last word ends with end and the first word rhymes with hell. Have these Labour idiots forgotten that women won the right to vote over a century ago? Do they think what they can say any insane tosh and get away with it? Anyway Lammy Starmer, Raynor, Thornberry et all if you keep erasing my sex then you won’t get my X.
Alekto · 29/09/2021 13:55

That bollock-wearer Lammy is just an oppressive anti-woman dinosaur hoarding male privilege.

Gastonia · 29/09/2021 14:16

They are like supply teachers who've been left a copy of the teacher's answer book.
Absolutely this.

I think he glanced over the crib sheet, which said that transmen have a cervix, but didn't digest it. He gave no thought to the actual meanings, and just remembered it as transwomen. Then when he started his reply, it led him down the ovaries route, which made him look even more ridiculous.

Love it! Sometimes, the posters in this board get it absolutely spot on. Like this Grin
JeremiahObadiahJackanoryJonez · 29/09/2021 14:49

I raised it on my doorstep to a Labour Party canvasser before the last general election. Am I not a member of the British public. What a fucking joke AngrySad

JeremiahObadiahJackanoryJonez · 29/09/2021 14:50

Sorry - that was meant to quote the link to his interview on radio 5 this morning back on page 1 - oops!

Franca123 · 29/09/2021 14:55

I just think of all the things me and my cervix have been through together and I get so mad about men like this wading in with their utter twaddle. Do you think David's wife went mental at him when he got home? I bet she would have if she'd ever had to have her cervix opened up using a a weird dildo balloon device to make it possible for an embryo to be manually placed in her uterus. Remember speaking to a lady with a weak cervix so she struggled to carry a baby to term. David's thoughts on the matter are irrelevant to me.

RoyalCorgi · 29/09/2021 15:02

One of the massively hilarious things about all this (and there are many) is that almost any of us on this board could have given a better, TRA-approved answer than Starmer, Lammy, Reeves et al.

It's because we all understand the issues and they don't. They get trans men and trans women mixed up, they think sex reassignment surgery can magically give men female parts, and they (probably) don't know what a cervix is.

Fair play to Thornberry - I don't agree with her, but at least she's understood what the issue is.

CourageCallsToMe · 29/09/2021 15:05

I also raised it not the doorstep to a Labour canvasser
