I watched it. I was doing washing up as well, so it wasn't focussed attention, but I don't recommend others force themselves through it. The production values are nice though, if you appreciate such things.

I'm just feeling lost again, turning on social media after a couple of days away and finding this shared a few times over with words explaining that nobody could be 'swayed by so-called gender-critical arguments' after seeing this all the way though.

How do intelligent women not understand that none of this has anything to do with denying the existence of people who are clearly here and all of it has to do with the fact that this ideology is a threat to women and girls?

This, the Ogre's piece denouncing JY (And the other articles about that vile human) and I need to avoid social media - except that I also have a social life that is barely real so need to go there sometimes to prove to myself I still exist.

I couldn’t watch to the end, I just gave up. The campery, the annoying upwards inflection, the even more annoying gaslighty crap...

I liked Germaine Greer's quote at the beginning but the ridiculous, childish and camp narration followed by the drag queen mocking what it means to be female afterwards made me switch off. Maybe it appeals to some people's sense of humour? It just came across as a bit immature.

emerencealwayshopeful · 21/04/2019 15:19

It doesn't improve - the final few minutes cringingly explains that gender critical is just people trying to avoid identifying as evil TERFS but really they still are.

No - people aren't sharing this because it's funny. There are intelligent women who usually show signs of critical thinking insisting this will give you all the response you'll ever need if a gender critical person starts to say anything that makes you question truethink.

Holy crap. Intelligent women taking cues from immature little twerps doing cos play.

Women need a bit more f-ing self-respect. I despair.

This had been rolled out as if it says something new and profound yet it's just yet another angry trans telling everyone how they should think. There's loads of them. It must be part of transition, a messiah moment when they feel the world has to hear their version of what is a very dull and and repetitive indeed.

Erythronium · 21/04/2019 18:31

Feel sorry for you that they're you're friends if they think this is reasonable or worthwhile.

What's with that person's stupid hat and the cup of tea at the beginning? They don't pass, not at all. Just because people are polite and react to gendered clothing and behaviour doesn't mean anybody accepts them as a woman.

The best bit was Greer at the beginning, telling it like it is.

hipsterfun · 21/04/2019 18:42

I managed

BertrandRussell · 21/04/2019 18:45

I do think this one is better than many, actually. The film flam was annoying, but it was quite thoughtful and intelligent.

Lamaha · 21/04/2019 18:54

I wonder are there really people (women) who move from GC to TRA? I can't imagine it. It would be so backward! As for this video I couldn't watch it. It's as if, failing intelligent arguments, they have to resort to costumes and campery and fake voices and acting.

Erythronium · 21/04/2019 18:58

Apparently they've done the "necessary emotional work" Lamaha. Another job on the neverending list of tasks for women to do.

BertrandRussell · 21/04/2019 19:03

“As for this video -- I couldn't watch it. ”
Out of interest, how can you judge it then?

Here’s the antidote:

InionEile · 21/04/2019 20:21

That’s Contrapoints aka Natalie Wynn, very popular here in the US at least and has been featured in the New Yorker as a popular voice for the left combatting misinformation on YouTube etc from the alt-right. Their videos were more politics-focused until they transitioned and now it’s all trans issues all the time on the channel. Yawn. I don’t mind Natalie and if you’ve watched earlier videos before transition the campy tea-sipping character she portrays in the recent videos makes more sense. This video was a disappointment though as was a previous one on the gayness of ‘traps’ in her words (don’t ask).

There’s not much logic there. Just an insistence that anyone who questions any aspect of the trans ideology is a TERF, someone who is transphobic rather than trans-skeptic, as I am. Just because we don’t buy into the idea of laydee-brain and female feelz, it doesn’t mean we hate people who are trans. For me, what puts me off is how irrational TRAs are and how quickly a lot of TRA veer into horrible misogyny and male-style entitlement whenever they’re challenged.

Manderleyagain · 21/04/2019 20:31

Jane clare Jones wrote a response to this vid. I think it will be on her blog.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 21/04/2019 21:09

I wonder -- are there really people (women) who move from GC to TRA?
Theres a poster on here that insists they were fully GC but thensaw a couple of posters being nasty and that made them full TRA Hmm

FFSFFSFFS · 21/04/2019 21:38

Sigh. I really did start with an open mind. But it just fails to address the GC arguments with anything other than mocking them or claiming they are hurtful

Justhadathought · 21/04/2019 21:46

Just makes me dislike drag even more than I ever did.

LassOfFyvie · 21/04/2019 21:57

I don't know but I'm sure I'm not the only person who was not impressed by Germaine Greer referring to the trans woman as "it"

Not convinced by that. She had time to consider and finely hone her response to the ambush.

Remaining true to her beliefs she could have said "he" as you have just done.

JustBecauseYouAreUniqueDoesNot · 21/04/2019 22:12

Agree with BertrandRussell. I actually found this very thought provoking and it offered me some potential answers to questions I had been grappling with.

Thanks for sharing.

Erythronium · 21/04/2019 22:16

I'm not trying to convince you. It's was a statement. She can call him anything she likes and she did. Her experience, so up to her how she responds.

I didn't call him "it" because I wasn't confronted with a parody of a woman, using me as a self-validation tool, in a situation where women are supposed to be polite (author's signing). I might have felt differently about the right pronouns to use afterwards to convey how I felt about what had happened if it had been me there.
