Seems a transman was asked to leave a male only sauna because he didn’t have a penis.

The sauna said they would have to approach the council to find out if their license would allow them to admit transmen.

From my understanding the space is single sex and entitled to be exclusively for men (in the same way as the Garrick Club). Gender is not a protected characteristic, sex is.

If I ruled the world I would decree that people would have to understand the difference between sex and gender before writing.

Anyway, I think the sauna was quite right to turn the individual away, and I think they are wrong to apologise and say they are inclusive of transmen.

Gender is not a protected characteristic, sex is.

In this case though I think they have reason to discriminate by sex.

The whole thing just looks like a boundary pushing exercise. How far can I go? What can I get away with? I bet a grand total of 0 females have ever tried to get in before now. Honestly I can’t believe this shit is being pandered to.

Having said all that, there’s a little part of me that’s glad gay men are getting a taste of the medicine now. Now they might wake the fuck up and stop supporting this nonsense. They’re quite happy to ignore it when it doesn’t affect them, but when it lands on their doorstep they might not be so nonchalant.

Isn't this more or less what has happened to lesbian groups and clubs for the last few years? I suppose it was inevitable that it would spread to gay men's spaces after a while.

I have to say, I’m intrigued by the concept of a transman attracted to men. I figured most transmen were lesbians prior to transitioning.

An acquaintance is a transman who very much identifies as a gay man and whose ideal is a sexual relationship with a homosexual man. It's no different to transwomen who identify as lesbians and desperately want sexual relationships with homosexual women who are willing to accept their penis as a female organ and stretch the boundaries of their sexual attraction.

I wonder if the Sauna will be implementing the proposed Swim England policy (currently withdrawn) and in future 're-educating their customers?

This has happened before, there was some sort of weekly gay sauna event where they told a vagina owner to go fuck himself, and as a result they got called out as evil transphobes and banned from the city pride festival.
