More thanks. Cake

(OT and I don't want to derail, but that stonewall 'umbrella' ... aren't a lot of us either 'genderqueer' or 'neutrois' if the definitions I find online are correct....)

ReluctantCamper · 04/05/2018 19:25

that's what I thought Popchyk. Any implication that the motivation for some transgender individuals is a sexual fetish can be enough to get your post deleted here , but it is true, and brave of them to acknowledge it.

BlytheByName · 04/05/2018 19:27

Brave. Thank you for speaking out.

concretesieve · 04/05/2018 19:31

Thank you Flowers

terryleather · 04/05/2018 19:32

Yes making a point of mentioning the sexual fetish aspect is really really important and brave too.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 04/05/2018 19:32

Flowers to all of you. And thanks

And some Gin. Well it's Friday!

A reminder of the article by Jenni Murray's public for which she was rebuked by the BBC:

Miranda's concerns are recorded by Jenni,

"Miranda told me she would like to be empathetic and compassionate to the boy who “identifies” as a girl and wants to join the Guides, but personally thinks that for it to be regarded as progress is regressive. A female space should not be open to males. She asks: “Can someone who has lived as a boy, and then a man, with all the privilege that entails, really lay claim to womanhood and demand unrestricted access to women’s spaces like changing rooms and refuges — spaces that exist for the dignity, comfort and protection of women?”
Now that’s a “woman” after my own heart."

the backlash is described here, featuring Debbie's support:

Well done to everyone who signed Flowers absolute stars.

OrchidInTheSun · 04/05/2018 19:35

Thanks to all of you for standing up to be counted. I honestly believe the fight is intensifying because the TRAs are getting scared and angry. We need your support to win this war - @debbieinbirmingham and @Jayceedove and @mirandayardley.

So thank you. Have a 🥂from me

borntobequiet · 04/05/2018 19:35

Well done to all the signatories. Much respect.

spontaneousgiventime · 04/05/2018 19:37

That was quick The hate has started

2rebecca · 04/05/2018 19:38

I think if I had disliked my body enough to take hormones and have surgery and try really hard to fit in with the other gender I'd be pissed off and angry at people who say you can be the other gender just by saying you are with no changes required whatsoever, especially those you suspect just find it all a bit kinky and seem to dislike the gender they claim to want to be.

Fantastic letter. So tired of the TRA narrative being that it's feminists v trans when many trans voices are being totally overlooked.
Thank you JayceeDove and every one who signed. Fionne Orlander comes across very well on Twitter to. Adds a lot of weight to the critical of self-ID debate.

Lancelottie · 04/05/2018 19:42

Thanks, Jaycee and Debbie.

dorothyparka · 04/05/2018 19:43

Wise, important and brave words - thank you to the signatories Flowers

MipMipMip · 04/05/2018 19:45

Thank you to all the signatories. I hope the back lash isn't too bad and that once this has settled you can go back to your lives and anonymity (if that is what you want). You are brave and I salute you.

misscockerspaniel · 04/05/2018 19:50

Thank you to all the signatories. With free speech and all that, I shouldn't have to say you are brave to speak out, but you are. Flowers

AndersArms · 04/05/2018 19:52

Brave and articulate. Thanks

UnderTheDesk · 04/05/2018 19:52

Thank you, all of you, for your courage. Flowers

Movablefeast · 04/05/2018 19:53

I'm glad this letter has been written but it will be galling if those with male DNA get taken seriously and treated with careful concern while biological females are shouted down and ignored.

MinaPaws · 04/05/2018 19:56

That's a very good letter. Clear and thoughtful and respectful. I hope they are listened to.

Jayceedove · 04/05/2018 19:57

We all knew how this would be received by the wider trans community. Debbie reminded us to think hard before identifying ourselves because of the likely reaction that she has faced already very bravely. That is why there was an option to only ID yourself to the paper (who had to be sure we were all who we said we were) and ask not to have any name attached in print.

For some that was a necessary precaution.

But there are some things where you just have to go with your conscience regardless of consequence.

I did have to talk it over with my family first and they did have some reservations. But they understood why it mattered to me.

Jayceedove · 04/05/2018 20:03

Movablefeast, I can see why you say that. And of course it would be inexcusably wrong if it happened.

But I doubt it will get that much reaction, sadly other than where it will hurt, of course.

It is often the way that the most extreme protestation shout loudest and sell the most papers and common sense is a bit too tame for that.
