Woke up yesterday to a nawing pain where my knickers sit on my right leg. Thought oh I'm just getting fat and need bigger knickers.

Today I woke up feeling like shit. I can barely move my leg. It's agongy I cannot walk to see this monsteristy. There is a larged raised redness around it. I cannot get to the GP i have a meeting in the morning I cannot miss.
I feel really shit, keep getting cold as well. I thought infected hair folicie but it looks worse. Would show the large red patch around it but I'm embarrassed enough showing this. Please help 😭

Well done OP. Relieved to hear you’re getting it seen to.

@MagicalMystical I know you weren't. It's just annoying when users sharing their own sometimes horrible experiences in an attempt to help the OP are accused of scaremongering.

I fully agree with you. It seems I tagged the wrong person there. My message ‘Exactly this’ was in response to your message. The @ tag was intended to address the person who wrote erroneous the ‘scare mongering’ remark. Anyway, it’s all sorted now. The OP seems to be on her way to the walk-in centre for treatment, thankfully.

AnotherNewNotebook · 17/09/2026 17:45

Good luck OP, and don't be embarrassed! So hope it goes OK and they sort you out quickly.

DDIY · 17/09/2026 17:47

Please give us an update when you can! Hope all is ok.

Elieza · 17/09/2026 17:49

hope it goes ok at A&E.

i feel your pain. i had something called jock itch which was fungal. it was horrendous.

DramaAlpaca · 17/09/2026 17:50

Yikes, that looks sore. Glad you're getting sorted, and hope you feel better soon.

allthebadthings · 17/09/2026 17:56

I have hidradenitis supprativa and that looks v similar to the ones I get regularly in my groin

Naturesoak · 17/09/2026 18:05

Looks like an Ingrowing hair that has got infected. A girl I follow has just been in hospital with sepsis due to the same so definitely go to hospital asap

Kpositive1 · 17/09/2026 18:10

Looks like Bartholin's cysts to me

Bartholin's glands are on the vaginal introitus. That's an upper leg photo.

oops Im glad OP is getting it checked out. Better safe than sorry.

CrazyMidget · 17/09/2026 18:17

Ohhhhh, yeah, my husband had an abscess on his arm. He had to go every day for a week or two so they could clean it out. Looked like a gunshot wound when it healed.

CatMummyOf3 · 17/09/2026 18:18

Wishing you all the best @deadembarrased, I hope your walk-in centre are able to get you sorted quickly. And don't be embarrassed, they really have seen it all before 💐

deadembarrased · 17/09/2026 18:18

Still waiting. The dcs dad is going mad saying i don't have a infection and being dramatic all because I asked him to sit with dc. Thankfully hes an ex. Like clearly its infected aghh.

Stay and get treated, my partner is the same , if he gets a cold he thinks he dying but whenever I’m in pain or ill he says I’m being attention seeking or dramatic , hope you feel better soon

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 17/09/2026 18:22

He sounds delightful. Please take care of yourself OP, you’re no use to anyone if you’re run into the ground or in hospital with sepsis. The assessment is obviously important and I can’t imagine how frustrating it will be if you have to reschedule but your health comes first. You can’t pour from an empty jug.

MCF86 · 17/09/2026 18:25

Tell him to think about how much sitting with them he'd have to do if you ended up admitted to hospital (or worse)!!
Glad you'd already gone by the time I saw this, hope it's not much longer

CalmGreenWasp · 17/09/2026 18:27

It’s a boil? Put a hot compress on it, take some painkillers and make an appointment with GP..

Peekachewy · 17/09/2026 18:29

I had one years ago in the same place. It was agony but it popped and then cleared up by itself

TeaPot496 · 17/09/2026 18:32

There was an article yesterday online wasn't there, where a woman squeezed a spot in the same place and rapidly ended up with sepsis, surgery and longterm pain.

Sepsis isn't a septic wound, you obviously have an infected area already, but untreated sepsis leads to multi organ failure and death.

kimf1963 · 17/09/2026 18:33

Does look like the start of an abscess, I see patients daily with these, you need to go to your GP, who will prescribe antibiotics or refer you to your local hospital surgical emergency unit. A lot of abscesses do need a quick surgery to drain them Im afraid, but if it is an abscess, it’s likely to get bigger and more painful very quickly. Hope you can get it sorted as soon as possible.

Hamserfan · 17/09/2026 18:38

Gettingbysomehow · 17/09/2026 17:35

That's going to be sepsis within 24 hours. You need to get to A&E asap. Now. I see sepsis everyday at work. What do you want? Meeting or losing your hands and feet due to untreated sepsis. This is urgent.

Now that really is scaremongering. Impossible for you to predict the future. Yes it’s infected yes it could spread further and become systemic. But no it is not definitely “going to become sepsis in 24 hours”
Anaesthetist that has seen lots of sepsis over the years

Stay where you are until you’re seen.

Oneearringlost · 17/09/2026 18:45

OP, it looks like a Bartholin's Cyst. (abcess).
It may need draining and definitely antibiotics. Best of luck, especially with what you've got tomorrow with your son. X

It’s not though is it? I’m severely neutropenic and get these type of abscesses regularly. If they’re smaller than a golf ball I don’t see anyone
if I have a temp and feel unwell then I do
