Today I woke up feeling like shit. I can barely move my leg. It's agongy I cannot walk to see this monsteristy. There is a larged raised redness around it. I cannot get to the GP i have a meeting in the morning I cannot miss.
I feel really shit, keep getting cold as well. I thought infected hair folicie but it looks worse. Would show the large red patch around it but I'm embarrassed enough showing this. Please help 😭

Jesus. No wonder the NHS is on its knees with this lot having a panic.
Looks like a boil. Give it a good squeeze and see what happens. Dab a dose of salt water on it and if it’s no better in a day or two then make an appointment.

Jesus - please stop giving out dangerous and terrible "advice"
The OP is unwell with this and the infection has clearly spread. She needs antibiotics NOW

Weird story… pick yourself up an aloe plant on the way home. Cut the leaf off, strip the spiky edge down. Slice in half so it’s like a gel pad. Sellotape on and go to sleep. Replace every 12 hours. Don’t freak out when one day you wake to purple liquid everywhere!

This would be appropriate advice if the OP were stranded in a Mexican desert and happened to have a roll of sellotape with her. It is not good advice for someone in easy reach of medical attention.

Seriously! Are you a trained medic?

You would be surprised 🤣

I was alarmed by the purple liquid and rushed myself to A&E. They too were alarmed by the purple liquid. Closer inspection led to inquiry?! Hmm… seriously what have you actually done because this is a better job than our surgery team can do.

Really!?! Exclaimed the tale of the aloe experiment. They were shocked and very impressed.

Actually I am. Which is why I refrain from putting more pressure on the NHS. Yes she feels a bit meh. Yes it hurts. The minute it’s popped she’ll feel instant relief.
obviously if it gets worse then she needs to be seen but can you imagine if everyone who had a boil had a meltdown and demanded an appointment.

Agatha1989 · 17/09/2026 20:09

I hope you’ve been assessed and treated now, OP. Abscesses can be so very painful 😰

Thisismynewname23 · 17/09/2026 20:09

This is the worst feeling, hope you get antibiotics quickly

I'm not a medic but didn't think that you were supposed to squeeze boils.

Just interested - are you a doctor?

As a non-medic, the temperature would be a concern to me as an indicator of potential infection.

As would the spreading redness and being hot to touch.

My mother had this on her knicker line. She kept leaving it. it was incredibly infected, she was unwell for weeks. Needed draining, and packing etc. The root of the abscess was so deep!! This can be really scary, really quickly. Please look after yourself. You’d rather miss an assessment and rearrange and your children have a mum, than not have a mum atall. Thats not being dramatic, I work in medical field.

Can’t believe I’m looking at your ma’s pubes!

If you were a medic, you'd know not to squeeze a boil.

Anything else in op post that would cause you concern and advise her to seek urgent treatment

ParkingNightmares · 17/09/2026 20:24

Any abscess needs prompt medical attention, advice to squeeze it is utterly ridiculous and dangerous.

My DH recently had emergency surgery for a perianal abscess, his second in a year. These are highly dangerous and need urgent surgical intervention; sepsis is generally a given in hours.

Hope you get the correct treatment OP and do not squeeze it 😉

Laura95167 · 17/09/2026 20:25

Surprised you aren't advocating putting Viakal on it, as per your advice on another thread when you said you'd been a cleaner for 20 years.

But hey cleaner/ medic, potato/potahto eh ?

Nooo it's my binki line not my va-jayjay. I wouldn't of posted a photo of that 😂
Should be seen in the next twenty minutes so we will see what they say. Still feel quite cold and want to chop my leg off right now.

You are doing the right thing OP. I'll tell you why later ... Just don't go home till they have seen you.

I had one like this when I was pregnant. GP sent me to hospital, who wanted to have it surgically drained.
but kept getting pushed back because of emergencies, so sent me away with antibiotics to return in the morning for surgery.

Thank Goodness the surgeon took a look before they put me under, because the antibiotics had started to work and it had started to ooze! I was literally in the pre-surgery room just about to get taken down!

Basically, hopefully antibiotics will help!
