Today I woke up feeling like shit. I can barely move my leg. It's agongy I cannot walk to see this monsteristy. There is a larged raised redness around it. I cannot get to the GP i have a meeting in the morning I cannot miss.
I feel really shit, keep getting cold as well. I thought infected hair folicie but it looks worse. Would show the large red patch around it but I'm embarrassed enough showing this. Please help 😭

Please go; it needs to be sorted. Hopefully you will get seen and be back for the meeting tomorrow anyway.

Supersimkin7 · 17/09/2026 16:20

No it couldn’t turn to sepsis in two hours. But you need to treat it before cellulitis gets much bigger,

OP, go to minor injuries where they’ll drain it and give you flucoxacillin or similar.

MagicalMystical · 17/09/2026 16:20

Just call 111. You don’t need to go anywhere to make the initial call.

That's what I was prescribed.

deadembarrased · 17/09/2026 16:21

Gonna ring 111 see if they can prescribe me some antibiotics over the phone.

No. Im avoiding hospital as I know i will miss the meeting its for my sons autism assessment for the parental interview.
Im not allowed to do it via phone and its to late to post phone. I need to be at that meeting. Also I have two disabled children I can't just leave them.

If you call 111 now or go to a walk in centre it could be sorted tonight so why are you putting it off for something tomorrow? By tomorrow this could be far worse, get it dealt with tonight.

Myfridgeiscool · 17/09/2026 16:21

Ring 111 now. If it’s infected you’ll need antibiotics.
I had to ring on Tuesday. Within an hour the treatment had started. You’ll feel better by the morning if you act right now.

Jinxyjo · 17/09/2026 16:21

Nurse here

this requires urgent medical attention, it may even need surgery. I would not wait.

Could be as simple as draining it and giving you antibiotic tablets if you go soon

It sounds like a hospital stay would be more inconvenient

Huge huge sympathy for the assessment timing but hopefully it's just draining and tablets at this point.

You reached out. You’re in a lot of pain. It’s got worse in 24 hours, not better. You asked for help. We are giving it. This is the ONLY help we can offer you: you must call 111.

Well done 👏 We’re here. Let us know how you get on (only if you want to). 💐 ❤️

Supersimkin7 · 17/09/2026 16:24

you’re not a doctor (you wouldn’t be on here asking these questions if you were) so don’t assume you know the answers. We are here with life experience saying call 111 immediately due to the very present and real risk of sepsis given your symptoms.

Do stop scaremongering with your ‘life experience’. I’ve had much worse boils, OP, you need pills and possibly draining. That’s all. But do it tonight.

PrettyLittleRose · 17/09/2026 16:24

Epidermal inclusion cyst is what I am getting when I look at Google Lens @deadembarrased

Do try to get a GP appointment. It may need lancing properly, or removing.

No, go to the GP. 111 are not mind readers, they don't know what it is by just talking to you. A simple course of anti-biotics isn't just going to miraculously remove this, and the fact you're in pain is a red flag

I had a severe case of cellulitis 3 years ago which was much worse than it might have been if I hadn't ignored the first symptoms and had called NHS111 straightaway. It was the weekend and when I got to the GP on Monday I was sent straight to hospital where I was kept in for 16 days on double-strength IV antibiotics before they could put me on oral ABs and send me home. The OP can't diagnose herself which is why she needs to be seen by a doctor.

LovingTheClassics · 17/09/2026 16:40

If you're feeling ill you probably need antibiotics and maybe draining.
Definitely try to get it looked at this evening.

AutismProf · 17/09/2026 16:42

I work in autism assessment. If a parent is too ill to attend a developmental history this would be rescheduled for sure, it's not a "one and only chance" thing and definitely not worth risking your health for.

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 17/09/2026 16:42

Cellulitis has cost people limbs. Do not delay, get to minor injuries. In future, call your GP as soon as they open if you wake up with something like this, instead of waiting until after 4pm.

When I had a recurrence of cellulitis over a weekend I rang NHS111 right away but had to go to the local out-of-hours doctor to get the antibiotics. They won't prescribe if you haven't been seen.

EasternStandard · 17/09/2026 16:43

You need to be seen asap
