Woke up yesterday to a nawing pain where my knickers sit on my right leg. Thought oh I'm just getting fat and need bigger knickers.

Today I woke up feeling like shit. I can barely move my leg. It's agongy I cannot walk to see this monsteristy. There is a larged raised redness around it. I cannot get to the GP i have a meeting in the morning I cannot miss.
I feel really shit, keep getting cold as well. I thought infected hair folicie but it looks worse. Would show the large red patch around it but I'm embarrassed enough showing this. Please help 😭

Could be HS (Hidradenitis suppurativa) causes painful infections under the skin and the groin is a common area to get it. Antibiotics normally kick it. Hope you manage to get in front of your GP soon OP. If it is HS they are horrible and painful

BigWig78 · 17/09/2026 16:45

Yes sepsis absolutely can develop quickly and from simple skin infections like this. In younger and healthy people too. You say you don’t want to miss this meeting @deadembarrased and have two ND kids you “can’t leave”. Well they’ll be fucked if you die of sepsis as you couldn’t be bothered seeking actual medical help won’t they?
If you genuinely feel like shit- fluey achy and tired etc. please seek medical help as you may need IV antibiotics.

I had one of these but didn't have the fever. It was agony though. Initially I was given antibiotics and when there was no improvement over the weekend the GP sent me straight to hospital to have it drained under general.
The fever is the worrying but as it's an infection that is no longer localised. This could be sepsis.
The autism assessment can be rescheduled. You won't be put to the back of the list.

ImWearingPantaloons · 17/09/2026 16:53

I had identical - my GOD the pain, I was in tears.

I ended up with a phone consultation with a GP who fast tracked me to an appointment with a prescribing nurse.
A week of high strength antibiotics fixed it.

Nottoobadreally · 17/09/2026 16:54

Yep, get this seen- especially as you have systemic effects concurrently as could become sepsis. Looks like infection in hair follicle. But photo isnt clear so healthcare professional will check in case tick bite/ Lyme, but where you have it, most likely isnt a tick. Still needs treating - possibly iv antibiotics if redness spreading. Draw round it in pen and note the time and then you/ healthcare professional can see how quickly redness is growing.

DailyEnergyCrisis · 17/09/2026 17:00

Bless you. That looks sore, and does require treatment. I agree that talking to someone at 111 or the GP today is important.

deadembarrased · 17/09/2026 17:00

Going to the walk in centre. They said sounds like an abscess be able to get some strong anti botics and see if they can clear it out for me. I think ive been so busy running around like a headless chicken and run myself into the ground.

Sorry if I’m missing something, but why does going to a&e/walk in etc mean missing your appointment tomorrow? Even if they advised IV antibiotics you could explain the situation and they might agree to give you oral antibiotics.

I do get it as I’ve been through autism assessment with my child too. But if I were you I’d be worried about being too poorly for the appointment if you go into sepsis tomorrow morning etc. By seeking help NOW hopefully you’d at least not feel worse by 10.30am.

It’s hard to put yourself first as a Sen parent but this needs seeing to asap .

badbunnysadbunny · 17/09/2026 17:01

just Seen update. That’s great OP. Good luck

ThisWiseRobin · 17/09/2026 17:02

Just for interest sake, can you take a close up which might reveal 2 tiny dots.
Symptoms sound quite like a spider bite.
OK I'm not trying to upset the apple cart here, but quick onset of weakness and red flare up.
Also is the area hot.
Please go to drop in.
And let up all know what it is

JasmineMac · 17/09/2026 17:05

Necrotising fasciitis often starts in the groin, and is associated with an intense/out of the ordinary level of pain.
Whatever it may be, don't ignore it, have it looked at promptly.

Do stop scaremongering with your ‘life experience’. I’ve had much worse boils, OP, you need pills and possibly draining. That’s all. But do it tonight.

I had a severe case of cellulitis 3 years ago which was much worse than it might have been if I hadn't ignored the first symptoms and had called NHS111 straightaway. It was the weekend and when I got to the GP on Monday I was sent straight to hospital where I was kept in for 16 days on double-strength IV antibiotics before they could put me on oral ABs and send me home. The OP can't diagnose herself which is why she needs to be seen by a doctor.

Exactly this.

@NotAtMyAge I wasn’t scare mongering. I was giving proportionate advice in saying she must seek immediate advice from 111.

@deadembarrased Well done for calling them and I’m pleased you have a walk-in centre in your area so you can get the treatment you need. Best of luck for tomorrow.

BusyExpert · 17/09/2026 17:07

It sounds like cellulitis and it can make you very ill, sod the meeting tomorrow get a taxi to A and E

ItsAlwaysTwins · 17/09/2026 17:12

You’re doing the right thing. Good luck at your appointment,

Abscess isn't gonna turn septic is it from now till 10.30am is it? I can't doing my meeting over my phone otherwise I would go. Ive just drawn around the red patch gonna monitor it for a hour. I feel so dead on my feet.

Err, yep it certainly could. I had an abscess on my hip 3 weeks ago. Between 2pm and 10pm it doubled in size and I was in a right state. I was in hospital that night, wired up to antibiotics and other fluids, with fentanyl thrown into the mix, followed by an hours operation to do whatever they did (I was out like a light).

Don’t fanny around with it.

RamblingFar · 17/09/2026 17:14

Glad you're off to the walk in centre. I tried to leave cellulitis 3 hours once, ended up in A+E.

Nowadays I go straight to the GP if I can get an appointment, A+E if not, or start antibiotics (take them with me in case) if abroad until I can get to a hospital.

If it is cellulitis, then you have a higher risk of getting it again in the future. Seek immediate treatment if so.

You need to look after yourself lovely. I know tomorrow's meeting is important, but so is being alive and well to be there for your child long term. I hope you get it sorted tonight xx

I have an autoimmune condition called Hidradenitis Supprativa which causes abscesses like that. Sometimes they can be treated with strong antibiotics but I’ve also had to be hospitalised to have it drained with surgery and then IV antibiotics. It causes extreme pain, flu like symptoms and if not treated, yes, you could be at risk for sepsis. Good luck, I hope you can get some treatment and make your meetings…on the plus side the pain and ill feeling goes pretty rapidly once the abscess starts to drain.

@MagicalMystical I know you weren't. It's just annoying when users sharing their own sometimes horrible experiences in an attempt to help the OP are accused of scaremongering.

Arthurnewyorkcity · 17/09/2026 17:21

A friend had a false widow spider bite that started like that. Almost lost his leg. Im glad youve gone walk in centre

Silvers11 · 17/09/2026 17:28

Glad you are getting it seen @deadembarrased . Nothing to be embarrassed about. Medical staff will have seen everything before.

LoafofSellotape · 17/09/2026 17:32

Glad you're going to get it seen, hope all is ok.

deadembarrased · 17/09/2026 16:10

Oh fuck. I have a raised red patch the size of my palm around it too 😭

That's going to be sepsis within 24 hours. You need to get to A&E asap. Now. I see sepsis everyday at work. What do you want? Meeting or losing your hands and feet due to untreated sepsis. This is urgent.
