Today I woke up feeling like shit. I can barely move my leg. It's agongy I cannot walk to see this monsteristy. There is a larged raised redness around it. I cannot get to the GP i have a meeting in the morning I cannot miss.
I feel really shit, keep getting cold as well. I thought infected hair folicie but it looks worse. Would show the large red patch around it but I'm embarrassed enough showing this. Please help 😭

Going to the walk in centre. They said sounds like an abscess be able to get some strong anti botics and see if they can clear it out for me. I think ive been so busy running around like a headless chicken and run myself into the ground.

These thing often happen when we are busy with other priorities, stressed and run down. I don't think it was any coincidence that I developed endometriosis and a massive cyst which needed surgical intervention when I was stressed, rushing around for various reasons and my health was too far down my list of priorities.

Glad it's now being treated but please don't hesitate to seek more medical attention if it at all worries you further.

Just had my sons meeting they were so nice and let me switch the camera off. Said they were looking to diagnose autism but can't say offically yet but wanted me to know so I'm not worrying while in hostipal. Ive got a banging headache now and my leg is hurting a lot hope this is a sign the antibiotics are helping!

Make sure you tell the staff about the headache and the increasing pain, it's important.

RemakeRemodel · 18/09/2026 11:32

Glad the kids' dad can step up a bit! I had an infected abscess a couple of years ago that didn't clear with antibiotics. I suspect it was partly stress-related. Really painful! I had to have it drained at hospital which was, well, not the most comfortable thing in the world but it was OK and it's been fine since. I was in and out same day but apparently often it's an overnight stay. So please do take it easy and be ready to rest up.

Fucking hell so @Confessionsofa40yrold is a cleaner pretending to be a medic.

@Confessionsofa40yrold your “advice” could have led to the death of OP. Please reflect on that and do better.

teaandtoastwouldbenice · 18/09/2026 11:37

You’re a lovely mum, what a trooper! So pleased they let you turn camera off. I hope you can get some rest now.

I'm not sure how horrible @Confessionsofa40yrold is. I get the impression it's more a case of them being a sandwich short of a picnic.

@Confessionsofa40yrold I note you haven't responded to my questioning if you're a doctor (which I am assuming you are not). You say you're medically trained - what is your qualification?

She’s a cleaner, she’s talked about it on other threads. Not a medic in any way.

Looks like an infected hair follicle, call 111 or go to GP or A&E as a last resort

She's in hospital on IV antibiotics.

Morning, still feeling like crap. They gave me some painkillers last night and managed to sleep through. Still hooked up to antibiotics and it's not gone down much yet but isn't get worse so bonus.
Ex is bringing up my laptop to the hospital before school run the nurses said I can use the WiFi for the meeting so trying to make myself feel semi human for it.

If the infection doesn't go down, don't be surprised if you are taken to surgery to lance the boil and clear the infection. Boils of this kind grow down, passing the epidermis layer, and antibiotics won't do much until the boil is cleared. I hope it doesn't go this route, but don't be surprised if it does. It's often the quickest way to get rid of the infection.

You an awesome mom. Get better soon.

Sorry you're still feeling so rough. It takes time for the antibiotics to get on top of the infection. Pleased for you that the staff are helping you take part in the meeting remotely. Wishing you all the best for it.

PunnyPlumPanda · 18/09/2026 12:19

I just wanted to say how in awe I am of you!

you should be so proud of yourself. You have been doing all of this whilst feeling crap. Yes you should of rested etc but needs just and all that

youre like superwoman

dreamingofgoodhair · 18/09/2026 07:46

I’m not telling her to stop them altogether. I’m saying there are ways round it. We regularly send people home in between doses. They then either come back to the day unit or a bed if there is one.
IV doses are spaced out. You can have one at 10pm and the next one at 6am depending on the course.
If there are 6 people on a ward on IVABS at 6am they won’t all be getting them on the dot as the staffing ratios won’t allow it.

If they are well enough. OP obviously isn't. When I had severe cellulitis in my lower leg (16 days in hospital) I couldn't even put my foot to the floor properly and needed a wheeled walker to hobble to the loo. I could no sooner have left and gone to a meeting somewhere else than flown.

BinNightTonight · 18/09/2026 12:23

Hope you feel better soon, you are very clearly an amazing mum, but take some time to rest up yourself x

Fatiguedwithlife · 18/09/2026 09:51

Thanks for your comment (nurse of 20+ years here).
Just because when YOU had worsening cellulitis no one mentioned sepsis doesn’t mean you weren’t headed that way.
Glad you’re fit and well now

No, the thing the doctors were concerned about at one point during my treatment (and requested an MRI to rule out) was necrotising fasciitis. Cellulitis can have more than one complication.

Whoopiedooo · 18/09/2026 12:30

I just wanted to post support and well done on dealing with so much, so well, for so long.

Some people ard truly awful, thank goodness we all knew it was dangerous and patronising "advice"

Please call 111 for immediate advice and draw around the red patch for reference to monitor it.

Kudos to @MagicalMystical for the suggestion to draw a line round the red patch, and all the other Mumsnetters for the advice to get this checked urgently. Also to @deadembarrased for being a badass mum. So pleased she is getting treated and ex is stepping up.

hevs03 · 18/09/2026 13:41

Ah OP I feel your pain, I had an abscess in my groin back in May just popped up out of nowhere, went to the doctor who sent me to A&E straight away. I had to have it surgically removed, like you mine was cellulitis with the skin underneath my groin area slowly dying. Was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes whilst in hospital, abscesses are quite common with diabetics, once removed it was a 9cm open wound that had to get dressed every day by a nurse at my GP surgery, bit of a pain but after 7 weeks it was all healed. Take it easy if you can and accept any help you are offered, hope you feel better soon.

feelingfree17 · 18/09/2026 13:44

Just wanted to say - amazing little Mum
Hope you feel better soon 💐

justasking111 · 18/09/2026 14:00

I had a breast abscess . Breast ached but ignored it because we were in the first COVID lockdown. It got worse so I phoned GP who said come in now. I went in everyone masked up. I had red lines running up my breast, a temperature. Was given strong antibiotics and told if by morning the lines hadn't reduced go to hospital immediately. I admit I was scared so many were dying of COVID in our hospital at the time and at home. Luckily I was improving.

I remember at 16 during exam revision i got three abscesses one where OP has hers and two others. I was so run down. My mother who went with me was advised to feed me up and make me rest.

Thingcanonlygetbetter · 18/09/2026 14:06

OMG OP thank god you went to the hospital. Because you have to be super sick to be kept these days. You must have some pain threshold to get that far without getting medical help. Speedy recovery, and glad to hear ex is stepping up

Salt water medicine apparently

LakieLady · 18/09/2026 14:14

Glad you're getting the care you need, OP, and that the meeting went ok.

It's alarming how quickly something that starts off as not much more than a zit can turn into something potentially serious.

tommyhoundmum · 18/09/2026 14:36

They can and do send a doctor to your home.
