Yeah the doctors already lectured me. Apparently with my medical history I should be taking it easy and they surprised I haven't landed myself in hostipal before now. But what's a sen parent to do? Its not like I can down arms and go eh doesn't matter anymore, wouldn't be so bad if the LA/school system dn't want to fight me on every sodding thing. Grin i have an echp mediation next week too and new medical equipment training for dc hopefully I'm home for those.
Might tell them to chop me leg off just to hurry things along. 😂

Just come late to this thread, and all I want to say is you’re an absolute hero OP, putting your children first and fighting to do the absolute best for them. Hope your meeting goes well, and wishing you a speedy recovery.

Iocanepowder · 18/09/2026 08:07

Ah i’m glad it sounds like you’re still getting to the meeting so that wasn’t another thing to worry about for you.

I also hope your ex is taking you more seriously now and should apologise.

This. Medical professionals can be really good at telling family members bluntly that they need to take some of the load from a recovering overworked woman. If you can engineer your ex getting you from the hospital or bringing the kids there you might be able to get him a telling off from a stern nurse! Always good for them to hear it from someone else.

They've said to ex if he doesn't start helping me more then they'll do a referral to social services for a disability worker and look at getting me respite a few nights a month.
Apparently I had infection turning into sepsis in the past with a miscarriage that I didn't even know about (i was really out of it and it was eight year ago now and wasn't on my dr history notes as it was hostipal) so its made me prone to infections when my energy levels are depleted.
Ex has suggested he moves back in for a month or so to help me with things.
The boys don't like staying away (we have one dc with very complicated sen needs and one with medical needs and sen) so he only has them in the days. Ive agreed to it. I could really do with the extra pair of hands not sure if I'm gonna regret it. 😂
Hes not a bad guy, we just got overwhelmed with the dc needs and spilt up. We are still pretty good friends when hes not saying im being dramatic lol.

Oh my goodness I'm so glad you went to hospital when you did (was reading this yesterday) and that your ex is hopefully stepping up. Good luck with the meeting today, hope it goes well!

I hope your ex staying will genuinely help you and not just add to your workload. Because it sounds more like he’s offered as he struggles with them on his own, so wants you there to help. But maybe he’s genuinely doing it because the kids would prefer to be at home and he wants them to be able to see you.

I am glad to hear you say you are friends as that could have been horrible otherwise!

Sorry about your miscarriage. I know it was 8 years ago, but I find if mine gets mentioned, ir miscarriages are talked about, the pain of it all comes flooding back to me - if you are the same I imagine that’s lot on top of everything else.

LakieLady · 18/09/2026 09:14

So glad you got this sorted, OP. Hope you're starting to feel better this morning.

Ihateslugs · 18/09/2026 09:21

When I had a a red rash on my knee rash appear on my knee I filled in the triage form online at around 10am and sent in a photo. Within a few minutes I got a call from the receptionist giving me an appointment at the doctors an hour later - these appointments are like gold dust!

When there, the GP took my temperature and pushed her thumb hard over the rash which turned white underneath, a sign that there was no infection. I was very relieved that it was treated seriously.

Your spot looks totally different but if you have a similar triage system, it might be worth sending in the photo to see what a doctor says, you might not need to go in is it does not indicate sepsis.

badbunnysadbunny · 18/09/2026 09:24

I know it prob won’t mean much from a stranger on MN but you really do sound like a fantastic mum and advocate for your children. I wish you all the best and that somehow there will be a way to lighten the load for you

punnedout · 18/09/2026 09:33

Kudos to the healthcare worker who had a word with your ex. Wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery and hopefully a new level of support for you, sounds like you have a lot on your plate 💐

Confessionsofa40yrold · 17/09/2026 20:07

Actually I am. Which is why I refrain from putting more pressure on the NHS. Yes she feels a bit meh. Yes it hurts. The minute it’s popped she’ll feel instant relief.
obviously if it gets worse then she needs to be seen but can you imagine if everyone who had a boil had a meltdown and demanded an appointment.

Hope you're been finding OP's updates educational. If you really are a trained medic you shouldn't be, with that attitude and so-called advice. 😒

OP, I've only just seen this thread but I just wanted to say I'm so glad you got it checked out and are getting support now! Sounds like you have a heck of a lot on your plate, hope things start to get easier now you've sought help for this.

You seem like a truly horrible person. 💐

I'm not sure how horrible @Confessionsofa40yrold is. I get the impression it's more a case of them being a sandwich short of a picnic.

@Confessionsofa40yrold I note you haven't responded to my questioning if you're a doctor (which I am assuming you are not). You say you're medically trained - what is your qualification?

AmberFawn · 18/09/2026 09:51

Hope you feel better soon OP, and wishing you the best with all the stuff you’re having to deal with.
Mum of a sen child here too and actually getting a social worker and eventually getting overnight respite care was the best thing for myself and my child. Hopefully some support will materialise for you after this.

Fatiguedwithlife · 18/09/2026 09:51

NotAtMyAge · 17/09/2026 21:44

Not necessarily sepsis. I had severe cellulitis, with exactly the same spreading redness and an extremely high temperature and needed 16 days of iv antibiotics. No mention of sepsis.

Thanks for your comment (nurse of 20+ years here).
Just because when YOU had worsening cellulitis no one mentioned sepsis doesn’t mean you weren’t headed that way.
Glad you’re fit and well now

Herecomesthesundoodoodo · 18/09/2026 09:53

When you’re ill it’s even more difficult to make a logical decision about your own health.

I get you on the fighting the LEA. It’s exhausting.

Ask the hospital to out the referral for a disability social worker in for the kids anyway. You need more support. A disability social worker is not a child protection social worker.

Still waiting. The dcs dad is going mad saying i don't have a infection and being dramatic all because I asked him to sit with dc. Thankfully hes an ex. Like clearly its infected aghh.

Wow, I hope he apologised to you! I hope you get better soon.

Honestly if you are good friends, and he has offered to come and help, you should let him. It's a win win for everyone xx

LittlePaintBox · 18/09/2026 10:35

When I was hospitalised with cellulitis, it took them a while to find an antibiotic that would deal with it - made harder because I'm allergic to penicillin. I hope they caught the OP's cellulitis quickly enough to deal with it quickly.

LittlePaintBox · 18/09/2026 10:37

Even if he's a bit useless, another adult in the house to go to the shops/answer the door etc will give you a proper rest, which is what you'll need.

LittlePaintBox · 18/09/2026 10:45

" The minute it’s popped she’ll feel instant relief"

It's not a spot the OP is dealing with, it's obviously an infection which is spreading if you read her posts properly.

I think the posters who've had similar infections know that you can't mess around with them. No medic worth their salt is going to think their time has been wasted by a patient checking something like this out.

deadembarrased · 18/09/2026 10:48

Just had my sons meeting they were so nice and let me switch the camera off. Said they were looking to diagnose autism but can't say offically yet but wanted me to know so I'm not worrying while in hostipal. Ive got a banging headache now and my leg is hurting a lot hope this is a sign the antibiotics are helping!

Fantastic. BTW I didn't think he was an actively bad guy- lots of blokes don't see how much a woman is doing til it's forcibly pointed out to them! Really glad he's now taking it seriously and I hope if you're unwell in future he'll remember this.

It's unbelievable the amount of people that still don't know (understand) that cellulitis can lead to sepsis. Cellulitis is a serious condition usually requiring immediate hospitalitasion to get IV antibiotics. Average time in hospital is around 5 days.

Many people think a boil is hamless. It may not be, not all boils are the same. A boil seriously painful, with a red area around it growing by the day while feeling unwell and with chills (even without a fever) is a medical emergency. If you can't see your GP, go to an A&E.

OP, I'm glad you are getting better.

SevenYellowHammers · 18/09/2026 11:01

Rest up OP xx

snowmichael · 18/09/2026 11:03

Looks like an infected hair follicle, call 111 or go to GP or A&E as a last resort

napody · 18/09/2026 11:04

My tip once you're up and about in the day would be to take yourself off to bed early, before ex deals with bedtime. You'll sleep deeper at the start of the night and it's a good way to set boundaries and make him do something that will genuinely help you! If you try to get him to do the early shift you'll probably be awake anyway and it won't be as beneficial. You need a strategy here to make sure he actually significantly helps!
