Who SHOULD have been Sirius?

Flamesparrow · 25/04/2007 08:11

I was torn with putting this in film or books, but went with books because that is where the description was...

Was discussing with friends over the weekend that Gary Oldman (as good as he is) just doesn't have the appeal that we felt Sirius had in the book... I can't quite work out who I would have preferred though.

Suggestions?

It was a condition of teh contract I believe between JK Rowling and Warner Bros that ONLY British and Irish actor/actresses are used. Which I think is only right, it's her book after all. However< i often go on mugglenet forums and there are a lot of young (11-17) US teenagers who really need to get a grip on their world geography. One person commented that Ewan mcGregor would be good in a role only to be told by a 14 yr old from Idaho that "Ewan McGregor can't be in the film, he's Scottish, she only wants British actors in the role"

I think Red Nose Day, or something did a rip of Harry Potter and Jeremy Irons did Snape. He was fantastic and I think Rickman is not mean enough AT ALL. He doesn't have the acid edge that I thin is essential to Snape and his whole character.
I thought Ken had the lovely smarminess of Lockhart.
Sirius is good, but was very disappointed with Lupin as had a bit of a crush on his character when I read the books.
Does that sound really wierd??? Hope you know what I mean by that.

Sunyshineymummy · 25/04/2007 10:18

I'm sure Ken and Emma were both in things before but FoW was such a big hit they became big stars after it. The Sirius attraction for me comes from the way she describes him when he was younger - good looking, bored, arrogant, clever - stupidly exactly the kind of bloe I go for.

BandofMothers · 25/04/2007 10:22

Also agree about Helena BC, as Bellatrix. She looks awesome in the trailer for HP5. Hermione Norris as t'other one v good suggestion.
I thought Emma T was ok as Trelawny tho. Not keen on Gamdon as Dumbleydore But thought Harris was perfect. Don't think Ian McKellen could've been Gandalf and Dumbledore tho. And think he was perfect as Gandalf, he just is Gandalf IMO. Gamdon is too loud. Dumbledore supposed to be soft spoken.
Hmmmmm, would love to cast them myself.
Hagrid perfect tho and the Weasley's. Not keen on the twins tho. Not how I pictured them.

persephonesnape · 25/04/2007 10:29

I am hoping that book seven includes a speccy dark haired 3rd year girl. by the time they film it my daughter will be old enough to shine in that role.

Dimpled · 25/04/2007 10:29

DG - Sirius is sex on a stick. He is bad and rule breaking but deep down good. He is loyal and honourable and turned aganist his family. He is edgy and takes risks. But hey - you like dumbledore!

Gary just didn't do the Sirius thing for me - although he is a fab actor. I think he would have been better at Lupin. Sirius should be sexy, dark and brooding - and a bit mad - and a bit camp?. Can't think of anyone though - Johnny Depp is the nearest I can get and he still is not right.

Liked Ken as Lockhart.

Adore alan as Snape.

Robbie IS Hargird

Love Lucuis Malfoy

Julie Walters is great - not to sure about the one who plays Mr Weasley though.

Trewlany Emma Thomson - no.

Agree Bella LeStarnge needs to be more anguklar than Helena.

Dimpled · 25/04/2007 10:30

Sirius - young Ollie Read

LazyLineJobsworth · 25/04/2007 10:33

I couldn't see McKellen as Dumbledore at all.

I do not like the castings of Lupin, Molly Weasley, Umbridge or Hermione at all. I thought Umbridge would be much more unattractive and toad-like and Emma Watson is too attractive to play Hermione who is supposed to be a plain bookworm. Lupin was completely insipid, though I did see him as a blonde.

I think thta Bonham-Carter will do well as Bellatrix, though think it would be hard to get the role of Narcissa played to perfection. Lucius is done so well, it would be a shame to ruin it.

MerlinsBeard · 25/04/2007 10:36

Aragorn should have been sirius i agree. Altho there was only aniggle about the character being wrong.

Dumbledore is just wrong now. The first guy played it just right - gentle and sincere like the books. How inconsiderate of him to die like that [joke]

Most of them are perfect...all the children, the weasleys, Snape definatly!, lockhart was the perfect sleazy up himself tw*t, Imelda staunton is growing on me. When i read the book i envisaged a human version of ros friom monsters inc!

saltire · 25/04/2007 10:36

I like Luscious Malfoy, I think it's the barbie wig

MerlinsBeard · 25/04/2007 10:36

Ian Mckellen would have been great if he hadn't done LOTR

Sunyshineymummy · 25/04/2007 10:42

Agree with Dimpled - young Ollie Reed would have been perfect.

Dimpled · 25/04/2007 10:44

yeah - they just need to bring him back with some kind of time turner thingy - sorted.

(OOOOOOooooooOOOOO young Ollie Read!)

Rufus Sewell

How about him for Sirius?

DumbledoresGirl · 25/04/2007 11:01

Not in that smarmy picture saltire, but yes, I know Rufus and he would make a fantastic Sirius.

When you say I like Dumbledore, you don't mean in that way do you?! Yes, I like Dumbledore, but as a mentor, not as a sexual partner! Dumbledore, as well as being quiet and gentle, should be forceful and powerful, and should have a twinkly side to him that Michael Gambon can only dream of - take the example of having passwords made up of favourite sweets for instance. You can't imagine Gambon even eats sweets, let alone makes passwords out of them. Ian McKellen fits Dumbledore to a T and I thought that even before I saw LOTR.

BandofMothers · 25/04/2007 11:01

Yum saltire, always had a thing for Rufus, except the dodgy eye. Good sirius tho was thinking the same thing myself.

Have been racking brains for Lupin, nothing tho. I think he should have light brown hair, look quite lined around the eyes and have obvious grey in hair before his time, but still be goodlooking in an obvious way.

Not Aragorn as sirius tho. He's too soft spoken Sirius is harsh. Rufus would be good, he's yummy in Knight's Tale.

DumbledoresGirl · 25/04/2007 11:02

Who is that latest odd heart-throb from Life on Mars? Somebody Simm - would he be any good as Lupin?

BandofMothers · 25/04/2007 11:03

DG, you know him.

I would so F**K him. Sorry He's just so SEX. Very come to bed eyes. Esp in Cold Comfort Farm.

RubberDuck · 25/04/2007 11:03

Oh Aragorn would have made a good Sirius, I agree there.

persephonesnape · 25/04/2007 11:05

got my narcissa - - Kirstin scott thomas. here.

DumbledoresGirl · 25/04/2007 11:06

Oh no, I don't know him - and certainly not in the biblical sense!

I just meant Saltire's picture was a bit smarmy and if I had not seen him in anything I wouldn't see the attraction, but as I have seen him in other things (ie I know of him), then I know how attractive he is.

PMSL at me knowing anyone as godlike as Rufus Sewell!

BandofMothers · 25/04/2007 11:06

Agree about Ian M as Dumbledore, but thought he was a better Gandalf, NO????
But you are right about the twinkly eye. Thought Harris had him down tho. Gambon, have been spelling his name wrong haven't I ??Oops. Is wrong. But did have big shoes to fill tho.

DumbledoresGirl · 25/04/2007 11:08

I think I heard that Ian McKellen was offered the part of Dumbledore but turned it down as he was already doing LOTR. Big shame IMO. Has the man no sense of duty?!

BandofMothers · 25/04/2007 11:08

LOL DG. Was going to ask for his no!!!

Actually he reminded me of my DH in Knight's Tale, and his BF agreed and started to jokingly call him Rufus. It's the eyes I think. (not the dodgy one tho)
