Who SHOULD have been Sirius?

I was torn with putting this in film or books, but went with books because that is where the description was...

Was discussing with friends over the weekend that Gary Oldman (as good as he is) just doesn't have the appeal that we felt Sirius had in the book... I can't quite work out who I would have preferred though.

Suggestions?

You need someone heavier set and more presence I think - like Brian Blessed.

RubberDuck · 25/04/2007 08:16

(Professor Lupin is all wrong too - NO idea who I would have preferred to play him though)

Flamesparrow · 25/04/2007 08:18

Lupin I was slightly happier with (though not much)... Not seeing the Brian Blessed at all

Not Brian Blessed. They guy was pale and disheveled. Not big and burly. I think Oldman is good.

Don't think much of Emma Thompson as Prof Trelawny.

persephonesnape · 25/04/2007 08:42

I like oldman as well.

i think david tennant would have made a good sirius - maybe a little too young? but then who would be barty crouch jnr?

helena bonham carter looks fabulous as bellatrix lestrange ( from the brief glimpse in the trailer for OOTP)

I like Oldman - I think we would have warmed to him more if the films had actually included more footage of him in the Goblet of Fire as written in the books.

And I think Emma Thompson got Trelawney off to a 'T'

LazyLineJobsworth · 25/04/2007 09:01

I was much happier with the Sirius choice than I was with the Lupin choice. Thewlis just seemed wrong.

Blandmum · 25/04/2007 09:04

I think that Olman will come into his own in the later books where he (hopefully) will have a bigger role.

Best casting has to be for Snape and Lockheart. Stunning choices both!

lemonaid · 25/04/2007 09:05

Viggo Mortensen

Boco · 25/04/2007 09:05

Pruni i'm liking your suggestion - vey brooding

WelshBoris · 25/04/2007 09:06

Oh yes Alan Rickman is Snape

Boco · 25/04/2007 09:07

God yes i swoon over snape too - and that confuses me as he really camps it up and still manages to be sexy.

Wb i'm following your small tanned ass around today

LowFatMilkshake · 25/04/2007 09:08

Oldman only has the next film Order of Phoenix because Sirius dies. If you ask me the director made a big mistake leaving out the whole Snuffles thing in Hogsmeade - I would happily sit through a 10 hour film just so the entire book could be on film.

BTW I love Julie Walters as Mrs Weasley and would love to see more of The Burrow

I had a really big crush on ken when he was in a series with emma thompson years and years ago - but i can't really remember anything about it, except that it was set during the war, and abroad somewhere

[vaguely wanders off, don't know why i shared that]

I don't get why everyone seems to have been in love with the character of Sirius. I don't see him as a very attractive figure actually. Gary Oldman was fine as him IMO.

The real travesty is Michae Gambon as Dumbledore. It should have been Ian McKellen. I can't see him without thinking Dumbledore, no matter what production I see him in.
