January 2025! Following on from LOSE IT! December 2024

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a slim bod) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 5lbs.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@TheRealHousewife I bet they are delicious. My day today has gone okay. Dry January day one done. DH poured me a wine I refused, willpower! Then first day of red January and 26 minute walk done so happy with that. Porridge for breakfast, and sausage veg and potatoes for tea. Sticking with 2 meals and refrained from all the leftover Xmas chocs

TheRealHousewife · 01/01/2025 19:02

@Midnightstar76 Thank you! Well done on the exercise as well as swerving the wine 👍

Hello to all the new starters and returners!!

Well I started today somewhat how I want 2025 to continue!

  • Had fruit with my breakfast.
  • Had lunch at my folks and ate only half a small portion of pudding.
  • No booze (although that is not quite the moral high ground after several cocktails last night...)
  • cooked a mushroom curry for the freezer
  • did my physio for my shoulder (for the first time 😬)
  • am not sitting down to a plate of cheese, salami and pate and Christmas cake for tea!
  • not so much with the exercise, as its been pouring down all day and couldn't get to the gym. But next week when DS goes back to school I will be back on the bike.
HappyLittleTreeFriend · 01/01/2025 19:11

Haven't weighed myself yet - going to do it tomorrow morning! But I've calorie counted in NutraCheck - not got off to the healthiest start, I've had a banana, popcorn and a McDonalds Big Tasty medium meal today 😂🙈 but I've stuck to starting Dry Jan and going to stick to no snacking tonight 👍🏻👍🏻 done my yoga practice. So not a bad start 👍🏻 glad that I counted my calories despite the McDonalds meal because I really need to just get back into the swing of doing it!

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 01/01/2025 20:09

Hello, and Happy New Year - I hope I can join?

My weight gain started in COVID. Then a number of factors - change to a sedentary job, menopause, leg injury - all did their bit, along with lots of overeating. I now have a BMI of 30.

I want to get back to BMI 25, which means losing two and a half stone. I have previously lost weight by walking and running on alternate days, and just eating normal portions of meals, (rather than piling my plate and still snacking all night) so this is how I will start at least.

I've had a reasonable start today. Fruit for breakfast, omelette and salad for lunch, chilli and rice for dinner. No snacks. 4.5k run (had to shave a bit off my 5k route to avoid getting locked in the park at dusk Grin).

PatienceOfEngels · 01/01/2025 20:11

Today:
B- black tea, 2 cups coffee, boiled eggs and rye toast with butter
S-battered apple slices with cinnamon (nicer than it sounds! NYE/D delicacy where I live)
L- sausage sandwich with brown sauce
S- shortbread biscuit
D- chicken fajitas with homemade salsa, guacamole, sour cream, cheese, lettuce, onions, peppers, garlic and some tortilla chips
S- tonic with lime, and pringles

Can do better (need to make some soup for lunches) but dinner was delicious and the Christmas stash of food is almost gone.

Managed to get outside for a short windy walk with the kids, and do some school work (have been trying to chip away at my marking this week otherwise I'll be overcome by other all when we get back and I'll feel stressed and guilty for the rest of the holiday - have managed 1-2 hours each day since we got back from the UK - almost half way and much better progress than I usually make).

House: Fed and watered everyone and did the washing up. Other than that a housework break today.
Life admin: ordered some birthday presents for DC. Helped DC with test revision for next week.

Also some me time - watching Shetland and 30 minutes of reading. Now continuing James Bond marathon with DH.

Stress is my biggest enemy when it comes to eating and good habits so am happy with how today went.

Tomorrow it's my birthday so have a walk planned (if it stays dry), lots of yummy food, and watching a play with the family in the afternoon.

Hi @VividPoster and welcome to the thread.

Good plan @Bopdabop 👍

With regard to perimenopause weight gain, in my experience keeping balanced blood sugars/reducing carb intake/increasing muscle tone helps a lot!

These are seeded crackers I make. Don’t look much but are very tasty and nutritious.

Those crackers look lovely.

secondtimemumma · 01/01/2025 21:23

Hello can I join please?
I have previously been on these threads briefly before and found them very helpful.

I have put on a lot of weight over December - roughly a stone to lose.

I shall reduce carbs and also some intermittent fasting.

TheBatwoman · 01/01/2025 21:29

Happy New Year! Hope 2025 is a happy and healthy one for you all. Could I join you please?

Looking to lose around 25kg to get back to my previous healthy(ish) weight of 60kg (c. 9st 6lb) from my starting point of 85kg (c. 13st 5lb) Used to be between 50-55kg but feel that ship has probably sunk, let alone sailed!

I actually really enjoy exercise but struggle a bit these days due to some injuries from my sporting days. Generally walk quite a lot when not on shift and took up martial arts recently and try to do some kickboxing workouts in between (miss more than I’d like due to work). Hoping to pick up couch to 5k again now if my hip plays ball. I have zero portion control despite a fairly healthy diet and love my food. I don’t really eat much junk food, but eat way too much - still eating like when I was doing competitive sport. Apparently my appetite didn’t get the retirement memo!

TLDR:
Weight loss goals 25kg (almost 4st),
Starting weight: 85kg (c. 13st 5lb),
Target: 60kg (c. 9st 6lb)
Diet: Pretty healthy - but ZERO portion control and the willpower of my toddlers lately
Exercise: Walking, Martial Arts/Kickboxing - planning to pick up C25K again too

I have no natural willpower remaining with diets it seems, so any advice, suggestions or recommendations in this area would be very welcome please!

Many thanks and we’ve totally got this! :D

AnonymousMum37 · 01/01/2025 21:53

Can I join please?

My BMI is currently 26.3 and I'd like to lose a stone and be in the healthy weight category again.

Today I ate:

A late breakfast: baked beans on wholemeal toast with 2 Quorn sausages.

Dinner: Chicken and gravy pie, carrots, leeks, peas, broccoli and cauliflower, with gravy.

DH insisted we finish the prosecco from last night so I did have a small glass. But I'm pretty happy with myself otherwise!

TheRealHousewife · 01/01/2025 22:26

Welcome to the thread @AnonymousMum37 @TheBatwoman @secondtimemumma @StrangewaysHereWeCome @HappyLittleTreeFriend 👍

Thank you @FiveShelties x

@PatienceOfEngels Youve had a busy day there! Great to read you got some ‘me time’ too 👌 Talking of Bond, what are your thoughts on the last of Daniel Craig’s 007 film … no time to die I think it was called. I thought it was his worst and hated that he was killed at the end. I’m puzzled as to how they can resurrect the role now James Bond is dead :(

I was on these threads a few months ago and glad to be back. I lost over 4st during 2023/2024 and managed to maintain and then had a further health shock. I wasn't sure if I wanted to lose the last bit, but I've decided I do want to so here I am. Thankfully I've only put on around 6lbs so not too disastrous.

SW - 10.4
CW - 10.4
GW - 9 (ish)

Happy New Year to you all and I wish you success whatever your challenges.

Thanks for the continuing threads @TheRealHousewife

Goodafternoonmillie · 02/01/2025 07:50

a good first day yesterday :
40 min walking workout completed
1400 odd calories -

green smoothie
veg risotto
aubergine pasta dish
no snacks (no idea how I managed that!)

30 min hiit cardio completed first thing this morning

today my food plan is:
green smoothie
veg risotto
fish and veg

Happy Birthday @PatienceOfEngels 🎈
hope you have a fabulous day!

Hen2000 · 02/01/2025 08:59

Happy new year everyone! I caught up on the thread last night but waited until this morning to post after I weighted myself.

Sw 13st6
Cw 13st4
Gw 10st ish

I'm in my 30s and a little under 5ft4. Over the past 10 years I've spent most of it pregnant or breastfeeding and just haven't carved the time out to look after myself between babies. We are hoping to get pregnant with a final baby this year.

I know I need more movement and portion control. We eat really well at home mostly from scratch, whole foods but portions are obviously too big (cheese, potatoes etc) I have a walking pad and do enjoy exercise videos too.

I haven't seen 11stone in a long time let alone 10. First mini goal would be back in the 12s and concentrate on half a stone at a time.

TheRealHousewife · 02/01/2025 09:14

HAPPY BIRTHDAY @PatienceOfEngels Wshing you a fabulous day 🥳🥳🥳

Hen2000 · 02/01/2025 09:29

@TheRealHousewife my walking pad goes up to 6km/h so you can't really run and there's no incline like a treadmill. I prefer walking outside but it can be hard to to walk the distance this time of year with the children in tow. I home ed our two oldest and have a toddler so sometimes walks are more of a stroll with them 😅

HappyLittleTreeFriend · 02/01/2025 09:31

Happy Birthday @PatienceOfEngels! I have weighed myself this morning and feeling pretty annoyed with myself, coming in at 9st 11 - the last time I weighed myself was in July when I was 9st 4 😢 so I need to knuckle down, my ideal goal weight would be 9st really so I'll go for that this time!

H: 5 ft 6"
CW: 9st 11
GW: 9st

Finding it really helpful seeing what everyone else is eating, always good to have some inspiration! Today I'm aiming to have vegetable soup for lunch and then roast chicken thighs, sweet potato wedges and sweet corn and coleslaw for dinner - smaller serving sizes of wedges and coleslaw 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

beconsistent23 · 02/01/2025 10:02

Morning. Missed WoW so did today instead.
So…..
SW 94.2
CW 94.0
First goal 88 kgs.
Out for dinner today so planning dry Jan day 2; a 45 min walk and lots of vegetables.
Have a wonderful day.

OnceMoreWithAttitude · 02/01/2025 10:28

I am down 300g from yesterday, which has encouraged me no end, though I am well aware that that is not going to happen every day.

@TheRealHousewife I do like your philosophy for this thread. It works for me: being motivated by small wins, understanding that the downward slope of weight loss is punctuated by little upspikes, like the silhouettes of trees on an alpine mountain.

Also that it is important to give ourselves credit for looking after our bodies and minds, and not focus on depriving or punishing ourselves.

Very relaxed approach yesterday;
Last chunk of Pannetonne - half a slice
Coffee
Blueberries with Oat bran,Flax seeds,Spoon of full fat yog.

One slice of toast (thin, sourdough wholemeal) spread with the last of some gorgeous creamy French cheese (no butter) salad leaves, tomato, zingy slaw*

Clemantine, a couple of chocolate gingers, a couple of those Roka cheese biscuits

Beef stew with onions and mushrooms, mash (no butter!), cabbage, green beans.

1 glass red wine. I spoonful of homemade ice cream.

*Zingy Slaw is an essential for my ‘steady on’ eating. Finely shredded cabbage and carrot (red cabbage makes this glorious to look at) and anything else crunchy you fancy, I suppose. Dress with loads of lime juice (lemon would be ok) , grated ginger (jar is ok), oil - I use sesame but olive would be ok, and salt. Add finely chopped chilli if you like it / have any.

A real hit of taste, filling, very low calorie (easy on the oil) and a very cheap salad when leaves are so expensive.

Glad to see we have other Shetland fans amongst us! I find good TV helps forfend against boredom temptation on these long winter evenings.

Have a great day everyone!

Fellsbells · 02/01/2025 12:28

Happy Birthday @PatienceOfEngels 🎂🎈

WoW was surprisingly ok, only 1lb up from 10 days ago.

Need to stop the chocolate consumption, but apart from that, today is looking good.

LegoTherapy · 02/01/2025 12:50

Happy birthday @PatienceOfEngels!

I'm sat in my PJs eating M&S chocolate biscuits and not caring.

It's a beautiful sunny yet cold day here but I don't want to venture out. It will be icy and my PJs are too comfy.

talkingdeadscot · 02/01/2025 13:03

Food for today planned and will be;

Brunch - prunes, greek yoghurt and low sugar granola
Snacks - 2 satsumas and raw veg
Dinner - Veg and bean stew with a protein yoghurt
Milk in my tea and fizzy water to drink

Hopefully will manage a walk later!

Have a lovely day everyone

TerroristToddler · 02/01/2025 13:14

Weighed in for 2025 today as my start weight - 129.4lbs. I'm in the overweight BMI as I'm short 5ft 1.

Goal will be 125lbs so a bit over a stone to lose. Have a wedding to go to end of April and would like to be slimmer so I can wear a nice dress and be back in the healthy BMI!

Meal plan for today:
Brek - porridge made with water. Protein water drink.
Lunch - duck stir fry
Dinner - soup and roll.

Have just finished a strength workout. Aiming for 1,200 cals max per day.

TheRealHousewife · 02/01/2025 13:52

@TerroristToddler If your start weight is 129lbs and your goal weight is 125lbs you've only got 4lbs to lose to get to goal 👍
