January 2025! Following on from LOSE IT! December 2024

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a slim bod) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 5lbs.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

I’m joining! Have weighed in this morning at only 2kg less than I was post partum. Heaviest I’ve been in years. I’ve gained a stone in the last 3 months. Pretty gutted at how much weight I’ve gained - 15kg in total. Sigh.
Let’s do this!

PatienceOfEngels · 31/12/2024 09:08

Place marking to check in later. Promised myself I'd get some work done and have got really sidetracked on MN so be back later! Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife

Hello. I'm rejoining the thread with a new name. Need a fresh start, so what better time? I have made a plan with myself that 2025 will be the year of me. I plan to lose this weight which makes me feel blobby and unhappy by concentrating on getting back into sensible, healthy eating, drastically reduce alcohol and make weight training a regular part of my week. I have 16kg to lose, and I'm aiming for June to reach that target. That is around 3kg a month which I think is realistic and doable. I also plan to take care of myself the way I do my family, rather than always putting myself last. Nothing earth shattering, but I deserve to have my hair done more than once a year, and that pre summer pedicure that hasn't happened in years.... just little treats for me. I have set myself a reward of my first ever facial when I lose the first 5kg so hopefully that will be a good incentive. Good luck everyone, see you on Thursday for my starting weigh in. ( Pre-made plans for NYD)

TheRealHousewife · 31/12/2024 11:12

Welcome @CornflowerBlueSky , lovely to have you back on board albeit under a new name👍 I love the idea of a manicure 💅 I’ve been meaning to go for a robust pedi for about year and thanks to you I’m definitely putting it on my January list of things to do!

On it and marking my place! Was on the last one and fell off mid November as soon as I went on holiday. Was a good getaway though but total lack of motivation when I got back and fell off. Now very determined to do this!!

under60kgbyJuly · 31/12/2024 11:46

Posted on another thread but want to end up on whichever one is active :-)
Currently 63.4kg, would like to be under 60kg as per username, though "by July" is aspirational. Already in healthy BMI range, but I have back problems which are noticeably better when I'm lighter, plus I like feeling I look better in clothes. I weigh every day and watch the average. Aiming not to count anything, but to eat food, not too much, mostly plants, and relish a bit of hunger. Here's to 2025!

Puffalicious · 31/12/2024 12:55

I've just weighed & am so terribly upset. I've NEVER been this heavy in my life. I've not only put the 2.5 stones back on, but additional weight. I feel like I can never be back to me again.

I'm 5 foot 5.5
14 stone 2 lbs

Sorry, but I'm not able to say much more, I'm just too upset as it's so horrendous & seems insurmountable. I'd need to lose around 3/ 3.5 stone.

As I said before, I'm surrounded by naturally slim friends & don't feel.i eat that much (I suppose that's subjective, though). I'm also 53 & the menopause has hit hard weight wise. I do feel that the HRT hasn't helped weight wise this past year.

I'm sorry to be so negative, it's just a bit of a shock.

It’s fine to be upset. I was when I stood on the scales and saw my number last year. But u can do this. 💪🏻 slow and steady. Keep going. A pound a week doesn’t seem much but the pounds turn into stones fairly quickly. And u will be half way there before u know it.

Maybe have a smaller goal at first? Maybe look for just a stone at a time.

Welcome to all the new posters and hello again to the regulars.
My goal is to fit into my Levi's without any overhang. I can do them up more easily. No breathing in required but there are bulges due to sitting low on my hips. I think they are the equivalent of a size 8 (size 27). So no bulges rather than a specific weight.

Sparxdislike · 31/12/2024 13:47

You're so kind. I'm very upset today, so.upset I just want to stop eating completely. 😔

You are right, I'll focus on that first stone, & I'm sure getting to 12 something (1 stone 3lbs) will feel really good. Those are my main goals right now. At average 1lb a week loss (hopefully, although I lose slowly) that's 14 weeks, taking us to around Easter.

I'm trying to be positive. Thank you.

Sparxdislike · 31/12/2024 14:00

I have physical disabilities so find exercise hard and it takes forever to lose weight. I'm going to build up walking as much as I can do and calorie count. I plan to read about intermittent fasting. I think that would be a good option for me.

My downfall is sweet snacks and I'm going to make sure I have healthy alternatives :)

Have lots of healthy soup recipes ready to go.

LegoTherapy · 31/12/2024 14:14

@Puffalicious you can do it! You've done it before and you can do it again especially with these threads to keep you company. You've got this. Try not to focus on numbers but on health and being kind to yourself. Think of it as nourishing your body to get the best out of it. Make meals count with lots of nutrients. I need to take my own advice here 🤣 It's ok to have days or even weeks of not doing as great but it's about your overall approach. A journey to somewhere you're dreaming about. The stops along the way might be amazing and other places rubbish and you can't wait to leave. Some stretches of road will be easy and enjoyable and others will be like driving in a torrential storm with a flat tyre and a fuel gage on the blink with an overheating engine and a dodgy exhaust but with a few tweaks and some TLC you'll be back to smooth running in the sunshine again.

TheRealHousewife · 31/12/2024 14:45

I wish there was something I could say to make your feel better @Puffalicious. You’re a lovely kind inspiring poster who readily supports others on these threads. Now’s the time to receive the nonjudgmental support of the great women on these threads ❤️.

@Sparxdislike Welcome to the thread 👍

Well it’s blowing a right howly out there … hang on to your hats 💨💨💨

@Puffalicious I am a similar height to you and was around 14 stone at my heaviest - once just after my second child was born and again in spring 2023. I get it!! I am quite fit and active and I just never dreamed I could see that weight on the scale, or feel that low about my body!

If it’s any help to hear someone else’s story, I was at 13 stone 6lbs last June when I decided things had to change. I’ve lost and gained the same 2-3 stone all my adult life, usually in same pattern of a) reach some kind of crisis point when none of my clothes fit b) doing a diet for 3-4 months pretty religiously and dropping a stone or two c) going out of my mind with the effort of keeping to the diet and falling off the waggon d) slowly regaining the weight but failing to get back to the diet until a) arrives again.

Fast forward 6 months and my weight is down to 12 stone 2lbs. I want to lose another stone ultimately but I feel a million times better at this weight. It’s been mostly very slow loss (my target is nominally 1/2lb per week) but on the plus side this gives room not to be perfect all the time and I don’t have any deadline - no wedding or event to aim for! My real aim is to change my relationship with food and my body and to find a way of eating and exercising that I can stick to forever. I care much more about how I feel than the number on the scale.

I really recommend the book The Last Diet - it’s a very gentle and empathetic approach but doing the exercises has really helped me get into a different mindset and stick to it.

PatienceOfEngels · 31/12/2024 14:51

@OneDayIWillLearn every time you recommend The Last Diet I nod my head (loved her earlier book The Kindness Method) and think, 'I must read it!'...well, have just pulled it out from under the coffee table during tidying up so think that's a sign!!!

@PatienceOfEngels well snap 😂 - every time I mention it in a post, I think ‘I really should go back and do some more of the exercises!’

But even reading it and doing a handful of the exercises has made a big difference to me. Also really liked the Kindness Method. I think it makes a lot of sense!

But this is a good prompt for me to go back to it again 💪

I'm loving your metaphor (I'm an English teacher 😅). It is actually helpful to think of it as a journey: I've had many where it definitely wasn't plain sailing, so that's a good comparison.

I think you've hit the nail on the head- I need to shift my thinking from numbers/ I'm denying myself food, to the fact that it's about health & I'm nourishing my body. That's not an easy switch, but it's one I need to make.

StMarie4me · 31/12/2024 15:49

Hellooooo! I'm going into 2025 a stone lighter than I went into 2024, so happy with that! Would like to repeat this year tbh! 😊😊

Bopdabop · 31/12/2024 15:52

Afternoon,

I would like to join you all.

I've lost 3st 5lb since August and have a lot more to lose.

I'm currently 108.2kg and would like to be 105kg by the end of January. Any more would be a bonus.

I'm going to start intermittent fasting again from 2nd January.

I will allow myself to have a treat tonight/tomorrow then it's all systems go.

We are planning to do 'No chocolate in January" which will be interesting!

Your post has made me really emotional. You're very, very kind.

You are exactly my sister, who again is on another weight loss journey.

I'm.a little different. Was quite overweight as a late teen, but then got seriously into clubbing & fitness & was a size 8/10 all my adult life until I had DC. Had my 3 boys & settled at a size 12. Was very happy there, maintained with no issues.

Fast forward to 4 years ago & peri meno / taking eye off the ball/ little time to exercise meant I didn't recognise myself & lost 2.5 stones- back to a size 12.

Now we're 3 years later & it's all gone back on & more. Menopause/ not paying attention to what I'm eating (but I don't feel I over-eat).

Thank you for your honest post, it's really helped, as I am surrounded by naturally slim friends & as much as I love them, it can be upsetting.

I too need to change my mindset towards food, I think. Certain foods have always been framed as a 'treat' in my life (my wonderful mam showed lots of love through cooking & home-baking, which was always framed as a 'treat'. DP's mum was similar, so he sees foods as a treat, although he's slim & fit despite packing loads of food away still- bloody genes!) and I need to see these foods as a hindrance to my health. I do have a sweet tooth which I need to knock on the head.

Thank you so much all.

From looking back at my active threads, I think I joined this thread about this time last year. Happy anniversary to me!

I joined at about 15 st 10, and before Nov / Dec this year (🙄) I was around 14 st 5. Have definitely put some weight on over Christmas! But am otherwise lighter than I started the year and this thread, so I'll count that as a win.

More effort and more reward in 2025! We can do this!
