January 2025! Following on from LOSE IT! December 2024

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a slim bod) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 5lbs.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

My start weight was about 68.8kg in September 2022 and it's thanks to these threads that I exceeded my initial goal of 9st 3lb and have remained pretty stable within 2kg of 55kg. My way of eating has changed. The amount I can eat has changed. No more eating large amounts late at night. Share packs of chocolate whilst reading in bed or watching tv are no longer a thing. Eating a full pizza to myself is no longer something I can easily achieve. I eat more protein and not much in the way of ultra processed food although Christmas has changed the UPF intake. I've come a long way and if I can do it's can anyone else. You've got this 😊

Yup. I did this months ago. Clean eating and I go to the gym everyday. Feel like a new person.

Fellsbells · 01/01/2025 12:53

I’ll weigh tomorrow, I don’t want to know what today’s is after yesterday!

Venicelagoon · 01/01/2025 13:00

I need to join. I have a real problem with biscuit eating ! I like crunchy food but the biscuit consumption lately has got out of hand. Managed to shop at Sainsburys this morning and came out with none which is a World First !!!

TheRealHousewife · 01/01/2025 13:00

Welcome @allthenoise(OMAD - one meal a day) @TinDogTavern @cloudengel @FiveShelties 👍

@Goodafternoonmillie That was exactly my reaction a couple of days ago when I braved the scales 😅 Very motivating to say the least!

@Showmethefood Great start! 👏

@LegoTherapy Fabulous update, thank you for sharing!

Addendum to earlier post:- WOW - 9st 4.7lbs which is a smidge down on yesterday 😬

As much as I want to enjoy today I have a migraine. I’m sure it’s due to staying up past midnight. Usually in bed by 22:00 or earlier. New Year 2026 and going forward we’ve said we are going to bed at our normal time and will welcome the New Year refreshed and have a celebratory brunch instead 🥳

Hello!
I'd love to join for a 'half stone re-set'.
I lost 18Kg in 20-21 by adjusting to healthier eating, smaller portion sizes, reducing snacking and reducing alcohol (wasn't a big drinker, just stopping the nightly glass)
Maintained pretty well, but now need to drop half a stone.
Actually I prefer Kg so am aiming to lose 3.5Kg.

Current weight: 68.7 Kg. Target: 65Kg

(I am 169 Cm tall)

Method:
Healthy eating, 3 meals a day plus one healthy snack. Lots of fruit and veg, v little processed. Wine: 3 days a week only.
Also paying attention to my cholesterol as it was on the high side.
So oats / oat bran / flax seeds and blueberries for breakfast.
Timescale - slow. 1 lb a week is about right to be sustainable for me.
Will ease into it by dropping one less-optimum habit a day this week (can't bear to throw stuff away)

Usually: long walks and a gym class 2 or 3 times a week, but I am currently recovering from a quite serious injury so will have to get back into that v gently.

So far today:
Last chunk of Pannetonne - half a slice
Coffee
Blueberries
Oat bran
Flax seeds
Spoon of full fat yog.

TheRealHousewife · 01/01/2025 13:24

Welcome to the thread @Venicelagoon & @OnceMoreWithAttitude 👍

Heres to a swift recovery @OnceMoreWithAttitude and I’m with you in dropping half a stone 👍Im not at the best weight for me and I’m shocked I took my eye off the ball 😳. That said I’m not panicking or stressing; rather I will reaffirm my intentions daily and follow through.

Crumbs sorry I didn’t realise I’d posted calendar twice … I blame the meds I’ve taken for the migraine which incidentally are not working x

Hi all, I’m on my own journey too! Started at 67.7kg (about 10 stone 9) which is large for me, given that I’ve always been between 8-8.5 stone for my entire adult life. My weight gain started 2-3 years ago. I’m not clear exactly when as didn’t own a set of scales until recently!

I’m peri menopausal and had a health scare in 2024 so am highly incentivised to make 2025 my most vibrant, healthy year yet.

I’ve lost 2kg slowly by cutting down on snacking, so am currently 65.7kg approx (10 stone 5). I aim to get to 63kg (10 stone) by Easter and ultimately I’d like to be closer to 60kg (9 stone 7) which is still heavier than I used to be but perhaps more realistic for my age and height.

summary:
starting weight: 67.7kg
current weight: 65.7kg
interim goal weight: 63kg

I joined a gym a few weeks ago and am working on building my strength and fitness. I want to lose weight slowly as want to maintain muscle mass while losing body fat.

My plan is to kickstart 2025 with Dry January. I’d also like to incorporate gradually higher levels of protein in my diet and reduce ultra-processed foods (I’ve realised that my diet is not great at the moment).

Exercise-wise, my aim is to do ‘something’ everyday, even if it’s only 10 mins. My ideal schedule would be HIIT once a week, strength-training once a week and yoga or pilates once a week. Either at the gym or via at-home workouts. I also walk the dog daily. Like many of us, my time is limited by my other commitments (kids, work, elderly parents) but I have explained to the kids that I need to work more on my health this year and am hoping they understand.

If anyone is on a similar path and wants to be buddies, please let me know!

Sparxdislike · 01/01/2025 13:58

I braved it and weighed myself. Not great but not as horrendous as I thought. Hoping for a stone loss but will do it slow and steady. Have carrot and coriander soup being made in the soup maker. Spaghetti bolognese in the slow cooker with extra vegetables. Going to be tough the first couple of weeks as been a lot of indulgence through December but 🤞

Andtheworldwentwhite · 01/01/2025 08:11

First weigh in this morning. Only a pound on over Xmas.
so starting my weight this year at 9st 10 pounds. My goal weight is 8stone 11.

for those wondering I started my weight loss journey over a year ago. And I started at 13 stone 1.

That's made me think that it's do-able. Thank you.

I had a VERY late one, & slept late, so feeling sluggish! I don't drink, so just tiredness here.

I resisted all food bar a few crisps, so pleased with that.

I'll be weighing on Tuesdays (day off) so 14st 2lbs from yesterday stands. First goal is 1stone, then 1 stone 3lbs to take me into the 12s. I can't think beyond that.

I'm back to basics with exercise, & trying to find time & motivation to get walking most days.

Happy New Year all.

Hi, I’m joining again. I don’t know if I mentioned before but I gained approx 2.5 stone on a medication for mental health since July/August last year so I’m now 13.5 stone.

I switched medication about a month ago and bar Christmas and new year eating have tried to be good and exercise a bit with walks and yoga online.

@Twateralflow i found (as I didn’t buy it but as was staying with DP’s they have biscuits) that if I didn’t buy snacks I don’t miss them. Having said that there’s a large bag of pop chips in my cupboard and just finished Crunchie rocks.

I’d say to try to swap snacks for nuts, fruit or veg or a small piece of dark chocolate or eg 1 Jaffa cake.

melissasummerfield · 01/01/2025 14:43

Hey, happy new year everyone!

I am determined to sort myself out this year, I have a lot of weight to lose but am setting an interim goal of 27lb as this will get me under 300lb.

My main motivation is to be fitter, healthier and stronger. I have also realised recently that my DC have started to assume that I wont be joining in in anything active, and default to asking my DH , this has made me really sad.

weight today is 326.2lb , I will be calorie counting with a focus on high protein and fibre foods.

Despite being this overweight, I am capable of walking and I like to do weights / strength training so will be aiming to do 8k steps a day and gym at least x2 a week.

littlepurplerose · 01/01/2025 14:44

Happy new year!

Starting weight 65kg
Goal weight 55kg

Running 2/3 x a week
Weight training 2 x a week

Eating healthy balanced diet

ForestDragon · 01/01/2025 16:08

Joining in for the first time, hoping for some accountability and ideas! I'm about to start a new job - my old one was stressful and made me miserable, resulting in too much comfort eating. Hoping to use this new start (first day tomorrow!) to cement some new habits which will help with weight loss. My weight went on quite slowly - pregnancy was probably the start of it but also general lack of time due to kids etc and the aforementioned comfort eating. In the last few months I crept into being obese rather than overweight, and I feel a need to get things back into balance. So slow and steady weight loss is good from my perspective, focusing on finding a sustainable way of eating and exercising which works for me by trying different things.

20kg loss would put me comfortably into the normal BMI range, so will start with that as goal weight and see how I feel. I've had a daily weight-in habit for years which doesn't help me mentally, so will join the WoW group and see if it's better. Just need to remember! Looking forward to spending some time on this friendly thread!

SW: 94kg (14st 11)
GW: 74kg (11st 9)
(I'm 5ft 10 btw)

Happy New Year everyone!

I’ve been absent from these threads since around July, when I was tantalisingly close to my target weight. Then I went on holiday and never really got back on it. In October through to December work went absolutely mad and I had no time or motivation to eat as well as I’d like to. I got a nasty cold a few days before Christmas, which is still hanging around, but on the upside it meant I had little appetite to overindulge or drink over the Christmas period.

I’m going to weigh in tomorrow and fear it will be hideous, but I need to take proper stock of where I’m at. I’m going to re-join Zoe as they have reduced their monthly fees (though it is still not particularly cheap) as it really helped when I started to lose weight in 2023. Weighing foods or counting calories is not sustainable for me, so I have never really got on with MFP or Nutracheck, but I’m happy to keep tabs on the type of food I’m eating. Zoe has gamified this and it seems to work well for me.

Hello!

I weighed in this morning at 107.6kg.

I managed to lose 2.4kg in December and no weight gain over the festive period.

So for January, I'd like to aim to get down to 105kg and if any lower, then I'd be more then happy with this.

I'm going to focus on making sure I eat healthier, more balanced meals and that I eat at least two regular meals a day. I'd like to incorporate this into intermittent fasting, where possible.

We are also doing No chocolate January, as a family.

I'm off to find a bullet journal, I have somewhere and I'm looking to get more disciplined in 2025!

VelvetWildflower · 01/01/2025 18:09

Happy New Year everyone!

Feeling good about this year already. I'm down 4lb from the 29th (water weight undoubtedly) and being very sensible with my portions and food choices. Every day aiming to come under 1500 which at my TDEE should allow me to lose around 3lb a week consistently.

Eat really well this morning but had a bit too much pasta with a bolognese for dinner. Not overly arsed as I had the calories there to eat but I did not think about my portion size as much as I should have. It's an ongoing struggle since I didn't get to this size overnight so it's like relearning how to walk. I have to second guess everything.

VividPoster · 01/01/2025 18:12

I'm doing lower carbs and intermittent fasting.

I am 49 and I am starting to have symptoms of this. Worried about weight gain. I try really hard to maintain and loose weight. I go to the gym. But it still worries me.

TheRealHousewife · 01/01/2025 18:44

Hi @VividPoster and welcome to the thread.

Good plan @Bopdabop 👍

With regard to perimenopause weight gain, in my experience keeping balanced blood sugars/reducing carb intake/increasing muscle tone helps a lot!

These are seeded crackers I make. Don’t look much but are very tasty and nutritious.
