January 2025! Following on from LOSE IT! December 2024

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a slim bod) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 5lbs.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@PatienceOfEngels I was thinking to do the same for weigh day and wait until Friday.

having such a meh week, but keep on keeping on!!

20 mins cardio done this morning
B: Smoothie
L: homemade pizza
D: Chicken & salad

@TheRealHousewife how are you?

happytobemrsg · 28/01/2025 11:08

Did my WOW this morning because I’m going out crazy early in the morning. It’s not been a great week. Had terrible constipation which needed lactose to fix & I ate naughty buffet food at my brother’s birthday party. I’ve also not been soooo hungry so eating a bit more. So given all this I’m very happy with my small 1.2lb loss.

SW: 10st 2lb
CW: 9st 2.8lb
GW: 9st 2lb ish

On the home stretch BUT tomorrow I’m going to Europe’s biggest restaurant ZaZa Bazaar! Buffet food from around the world. I’m in trouble.

HappyLittleTreeFriend · 28/01/2025 17:49

Well done @happytobemrsg I'd love a 1.2lb loss, good going! Fingers crossed for WOW tomorrow, I've been good with food this last week and according to my calorie count I should have lost 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Today -

B: Coffee
L: Birthday cake (not mine 😂) and two yogurt covered rice cakes
D: Salmon, broccoli, peas and rice with soy sauce, ginger and garlic

Jaderz · 28/01/2025 19:04

I have given up hope again I am back at nothing happening 😂 but exercise is so hard when it’s so cold and wet tbh

having a shitty January.

AnonymousMum37 · 28/01/2025 19:18

Is it just me or is it reeeeeally hard to get enough protein in a vegetarian diet?

I'm not veggie but my husband and daughter are so I often eat veggie. Today I had greek yoghurt with breakfast, 2 eggs, borlotti beans and 2 types of lentils. And My fitness pal still says I'm way behind my protein goal.

Bought chicken for tomorrow's lunch!

Controversial! Many vegetarians (I was one for decades but not now) will give some combination of the responses (a) your protein goal is likely way, way higher than is actually necessary or optimal (b) sure, there's plenty of vegetarian protein, such as the things you named, plus nuts, grains etc. Personally I think you have a point, especially for vegans, especially for people at a stage of life where their total calorie burn is low - then even with a relatively modest goal you have to make all the carbohydrate count, i.e. as so much vegan protein is high carb you can't ever have any carb that isn't also a good source of protein, which gets tedious. I also think it's really hard to lose weight on a vegan diet without going short of protein. Vegetarian not so much provided you work at it; eggs are good! I have no doubt there are vegans who disagree with all this though, maybe on this very thread...

Don’t give up @Jaderz!! We are all in this together 😃

TheRealHousewife · 29/01/2025 07:01

Good Morning!

WOW - 9st 3lb. Month summary:- after having gained and lost the same couple of pounds I now find I’m 2lbs down overall. Not a huge loss but if I repeat the pattern that’ll be half stone loss by end of March 👍

@Goodafternoonmillie Im getting there … slowly 👇

Health wise:- I’m left with a chronic cough and debilitating fatigue. Eating nutritiously and prioritising sleeping. Hoping to be soon better.

Menu
Meal 1 - Avocado, scrambled eggs & cottage cheese with seeded crackers. Pecans.
Meal 2 - Chicken tray bake with skin on small potatoes, carrots, red peppers, red onion & peas (chucked in at the end). Greek yoghurt and raspberries.
Tea, black coffee & water.

I intend to get Februarys thread going later today 👍

I’d like to remind people I don’t receive email alerts of tags. I’ve liaised previously with MUMSNET and for some reason they can’t undo the gremlins in the machine. I only see tags if I come to site 👍

@NessaSmith Congratulations … over 2stone loss. Fantastic progress 👏👌

1 lb down this week and please with that. 9lbs down since I started. In healthy bmi range again since last week so happy with that. But still would like to lose another 7lbs.

Ethiopianflower · 29/01/2025 07:38

@AnonymousMum37

i am a veggie and find it really hard to get enough protein so I do my best and have some beans, eggs and small amounts of nuts as often as I can and then I forget about it. I tell myself that’s grand - I’ve got some protein in. Some days I’m really hungry and some days I’m not. Just feel so much better cutting out all the rubbish I used to eat.

Goodafternoonmillie · 29/01/2025 07:41

I decided to just go for a WOW today. I will also weigh again on Friday for a final check in, and I’m going to take my measurements on that day too.

small loss this week -0.6lb which tbh given my week I am very pleased with!!

last week: 10 st 4.2 lbs
today 10 st 3.6 lbs
body fat: 32.7%

30 min strength completed this morning ✅
B: Smoothie
L: I have made a salad with ricotta and melon 😋
D: Mustard Chicken & Rice

@TheRealHousewife glad to hear you are improving, sounds utterly rubbish for you though 😫

well done on all the losses everyone and keep going steady if not!!

happy wednesday!!

Jaderz · 29/01/2025 07:46

It’s ok I’m not giving up trying, just giving up hope 😂
i keep on keeping on! Same weight I’m still stuck 😂

under60kgbyJuly · 29/01/2025 08:17

WOW:
SW: 63.4kg
CW: 62.4kg
GW: 60.0kg

So 0.6kg down this week, to make up for nothing last week. Happy with a kilo in four weeks - superslow, but I knew it would be, and I think it's fat loss.

ForestDragon · 29/01/2025 08:33

WoW for me too.

SW: 94kg
CW: 90.9 kg = BMI into overweight range!
GW: 70 kg

Feeling happy with that after being a bit unhappy last week - a bit more than my target off but that's due to period finishing I think. Seem to have settled on a steady sustainable diet which gives some a decent deficit and not too many hungry issues if I make sure I get a good amount of protein at each meal. Am also much more active with running and walking being consistent (new job helps, more walking on the commute and I'm trying not to eat lunch at my desk so get out and about at lunchtime too).

And having stupidly jumped on the scales a couple of times this week and been disappointed by what I saw I am absolutely committing to only weighing on Wednesdays going forward, it's a much better approach to stop me obsessing over the scales. What I'm doing is working, seeing perfectly normal blips day to day is not helpful in trying to focus on the slow and steady downward trend. I am a bit inclined towards giving up if I feel down, so doing what I can to avoid that is really important I think.

Looks like slow and steady is the general theme in January for us in this group! Looking forward to more progress in February.

IDareSay · 29/01/2025 08:44

Some great results here in January, and a big 'keep going!' to everyone. It's a long month but we are finally beginning to see the end of it! I'm delighted with a half kilo loss this week.

Being consistent so far with:
Water intake 2l 6/7
Vitamins 7/7
16:8 7/7
Will add in some exercise habits towards the end of the month, just walking for now.

SW: 72.5 kg
GW1: 69 kg end January (achieved)
CW: 68.5kg (4 kg lost)
GW2: 65 kg end March (in time for weekend away)
GW3: 60kg end October

See you all on the Fabulous February thread 💪

NothingTraLaLa · 29/01/2025 09:38

Well, January started well but descended into illness, bad weather and a broken boiler.

Anyway, not as much weight lost this month as I’d hoped, but it is a loss nevertheless. Here’s to February!

SW 122.6 lbs
CW 121.6 lbs
TW 112 lbs

StealthyBMI · 29/01/2025 09:38

Hi - I am joining you in advance of the Feb thread as I am getting lots of motivation from reading all the weight loss threads daily so checking in is going to help. I am on Fast 800, 4 weeks in. Struggling this week after a weekend away, I have been tired, a bit stressed at work, had my period and got some associated hanger, but period is finished, I slept 9 hours last night and feeling better today. I've decided to just up my calories/protein on the days I feel really hungry, otherwise I start grazing whilst cooking the kids' tea at 5pm (I usually wait for DH to get home and we eat together later - but sometimes this means 8pm or later which is just too long to wait on so few calories.) I'm not particularly following any time restrictions but generally aim to go at least 12 hours overnight. I am walking at least an hour a day which is helping my thighs tone up and have lost a lot on measurements too, so a good start for me.
SW (01.01.25) 89kg.
CW 83.2KG
Initial GW 72 KG (Healthy BMI), long term GW would be somewhere in the mid 60s but as I've always been top end of healthy BMI at best, this might be a pipe dream. I'll see where I am in another 4 weeks time and either switch to 5:2 or try another 4 weeks of Fast 800.

LemonDrizzle23 · 29/01/2025 09:45

Well done WOWers! I'm looking forward to the February thread!

A tiny gain for me this week, but I've not been in a deficit for a couple of weeks, so it's probably fair enough.

The big positive is my consistent exercise is beginning to pay off. My body is changing. I've increased the resistance on the bike. I'm walking faster on the treadmill, and my big pants and comfy gym leggings are starting to fall down! I'm definitely getting fitter!

SW: 97.5kg
CW: 93.8kg
10%: 88kg

Plan for Feb (starting now) is to get food back on track. All family / guests are heading off, so it's back to real life now.

Jaderz · 29/01/2025 11:34

Ok I smashed out a 11k walk today because for the first time in ages it’s not bloody arctic and pissing down.

Deffo going to try to stay motivated on fitness even if weight loss is stalling. Also wondering if I need to lose more weight anyway maybe my goal of 63kg is pointless and I should stick with 65kg

HappyLittleTreeFriend · 29/01/2025 12:33

So chuffed!!

SW: 9st 11.75
CW: 9st 7.5
GW: 9st

Scales showing 9st 7.5 today!! Which is down like 3lbs from last week - I think last week I was weighing heavier because of my period and I also weighed in my pants instead of my clothes but still - making me feel so much better and like I'm making proper progress yay!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 29/01/2025 12:49

Hi WOWers! I was half a pound up today, but I had a blowout birthday weekend, and there was a fair amount of cake, so I’m not too concerned about it.

So in January I think I’ve only lost 1 1/2 lbs, which isn’t great, but onwards to February. I’m hoping the nights getting lighter will help me get my exercise mojo back!

FaeryQueen · 29/01/2025 13:21

Weigh in was a pleasing 10st 8.5 so just over 1lb down on last week.

Maybe I should carry on with the swede soup! ( Actually it was OK. Not my favourite by a long way but ok)

Well done everyone! Hang in there

LegoTherapy · 29/01/2025 13:53

Weight remains the same at goal but good god I wish I'd never taken the advice of getting the me 360 app and doing a body scan. I've always felt relatively slim at around 8.5 stone give or take but I actually look like Fairy Mary in Tinkerbell. I've just had a little sniff into my lunch after doing a workout. FML. I'm never going to look like Queen Clarion with being 5'2.5" but come on.

Congratulations all you losers!

TerroristToddler · 29/01/2025 17:23

WOW for me - a small loss this week. I think just half a pound. I'll still take that though as lost almost 2lbs last week.

SW - 140lbs
CW - 135.6 lbs (annoying was 135 exactly on Sunday but gone up again)
GW - 125 lbs

10lbs left to go!
