Following on from the LOSE IT! May thread

May came and went in a flash😮. The arrival of June provides the opportunity to embrace a fresh new start & start new habits. If you’re a returner or a new starter feel free to jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost nearly 4 stones. After having been on the wrong side of 12st I am now maintaining around 8st 12lb. I find this weight is sustainable and easy to maintain. If I can do it anyone can 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes.

@ImALittlePea Wow, lucky you going to see TS, enjoy! 🙂

I'm pleased to say i managed another fast day this week. That's 3 in total this week, as I also did Monday and Wednesday. I won't be fasting again until next Tuesday, just have to make sure I don't undo my progress before then!

Ooh well done, which kind of fast are you doing? I do Intermittent so tend to finish eating around 8pm then not eat next day til around 1pm around 3 times a week. Considering longer fasts too but exercising alot so don't want to compromise on energy!

tahinitoast · 22/06/2024 12:44

@ImALittlePea thank you, it went really well, so happy I took the plunge!

tahinitoast · 22/06/2024 12:45

Park run! 5k 🥳

Houmous on Rye sourdough with grated carrot, lemon juice, olive oil, tomatoes and spinach.

Cashew nuts, pecans, 2 x dark choc thin rice cakes, 1.5 squares dark choc

Planning on a butter bean dish for dinner

PatienceOfEngels · 23/06/2024 08:15

NSV: Yesterday went completely to plan!

Had a dessert of Greek yoghurt with honey, peach and banana, but still fitted within my 12 hour eating window and no UPF (except slice of rye toast for breakfast). No evening snacking - herbal tea and water only. 13,000 steps. No yoga but went swimming with DC and got some lengths in in the outside pool while they were on the flume (it was cold so not many people outside). Slept well.

Pulled out one of my Dr Chatterjee books (the Stress Solution) to have a bit of a mental reboot. It makes me realise all the good things I already do to manage my health, flags habits which have fallen by the wayside, and gives me new things to try. I have so many books on well-being and health, half of them unread, so would like to add some non-fiction reading to my list this summer.

Today:
-mini kitchen work out, 2 minute meditation and journalling before coffee
-1st walk of the day round the neighbourhood phone free just to listen to the birds and unscramble my head
-Breakfast: homemade muffin with egg and bacon and some brown sauce. Just waiting for them to finish the last proving! Requested by DC.
-Lunch: leftover turmeric rice, mushrooms/pepper/carrot. Will add in a one egg omelette.
-Dinner: maybe beef and bean burritos.
-Snack: fruit only (peach, apple, cherries in the house)
-Apart from morning coffee, water and herbal tea only.

Get my 10,00 steps in (almost half way there already - will go for another walk after breakfast).
Yoga - going to start YWA True series as it's always been my favourite.
Spend some time gardening.

Do something I love today. Either read in my chair in the garden or practise guitar.

Sorry for the spam after intermittent posting but I've really struggled the last few months and I have to make the push now to get back into a better routine.

Have a good Sunday everyone!

RadDarwazeh · 23/06/2024 18:57

@PatienceOfEngels well done, patience! I think "do something I love today" is so positive as a message to pass on to us all 💕

Mine today was reading. I've gotten into books again and once in I forgot how much I let this fall to the wayside too and I adored it so much. The lighter evenings help for this, of course!

Food wise it's been a loaded omelette and dinner cooking is sausages and roasted type veggies. Yum!

PatienceOfEngels · 24/06/2024 06:57

A good day on plan yesterday. Ended up having greek yoghurt, peaches and honey instead of my rice for lunch. Got my yoga in, a 16km bike ride with DC2, and another neighbourhood walk in the evening so got my 10,000 steps done. Managed to avoid snacking after dinner and spent a good 2 hours sitting reading in the sun without being interrupted by kids. Lots of water.

I feel properly refreshed after the weekend for a change!

Today is off to a great start. Went for a pre-breakfast walk while everyone was sleeping and saw my usual sparrows, jackdaws, blackbirds, magpies, but also a jay, swifts, heard some frogs and I saw a fox sitting on a garden wall! Have never seen one so close and still before. He just stared at me. He was so much bigger than I thought. I usually only see the back end of foxes as they run away.

Plan for today:
-boiled egg and toast, coffee
-fruit - peach, apple, cherries
-leftover rice with mushrooms, pepper, carrot, omelette
-green chicken curry with rice

Yoga (YWA day 2 true) and another walk this evening.

I'm feeling so much better after less than a week of hitting bad eating habits on the head (again). It's like a switch has to flick in my head to tell me to stop doing things that make me feel bad. Think I'm down 1kg in less than a week already.

My intentions for the week are to keep this up!
-12 hour eating window
-fruit/greek yoghurt only for snacks (no UPF)
-water/herbal tea after breakfast coffee for drinks
-get my 10,000 steps in/get outside
-keep journalling
-do what I can with yoga - keep up with YWA True or the core play programme I bought a few months ago.

PatienceOfEngels · 24/06/2024 07:02

@RadDarwazeh I am really trying to carve out moments for myself, and not just for the things that I think/know I should do (like chores, personal hygiene, work/admin, exercise, meditation) but things I really do love and bring me joy. This year I have set up a joy journal where I try to write down one thing everyday which has made me happy. It make me realise that being in nature or spending proper time with my kids bring me real joy. It's helping me step away from my phone a bit more.

I have some time alone in the house today so I am going to try and get my guitar out for a play/sing. Going to watch DC2 do a mini-musical at school this morning. And will make time to be outside again later. Still have goosebumps for my fox encounter!

LemonDrizzle23 · 24/06/2024 07:17

Loving the recommitment on the board right now - I need some of that!

Lovely weekend here. Big family do yesterday. I have ended up with very pink arms having underestimated the sun 😬

Intentions this week are:

  • throw away remaining party cake. I am not a dustbin. It has served its purpose and I don't have to eat it just so it's not "wasted".
  • IF
  • track every day on nutricheck
  • 10,000 steps daily (usually getting more than that now)
  • 2 x body project sessions.

Have a great start to the week everyone!

PatienceOfEngels · 24/06/2024 07:26

@LemonDrizzle23 I also got a bit rosy from the sun yesterday. This morning at 6am (everyone else was asleep) I was trying to be very quiet in the bathroom and slathered on some aftersun. Weird - not absorbing into my skin. had a closer look at the label. Not aftersun. Conditioner!! 😂

LemonDrizzle23 · 24/06/2024 09:20

@PatienceOfEngels hopefully you now have nice soft skin if nothing else 😂

Hoolahoophop · 24/06/2024 09:23

So, forgot my lunch today and had purposely skipped breakfast. Which I am no regretting.

Am now at work all day with zero food. I'll have to run out and get something, have a supermarket nearby.

What would you all choose to fill you up, takes little prep in the work kitchen and keeps me on track with the diet. (lunch was going to be salad and left over bbq)

PatienceOfEngels · 24/06/2024 10:20

@Hoolahoophop I would probably buy a salad (they don't really do meal deal sandwiches here in the same way they do in the UK but the big salads are delicious). Something with some protein. I usually go for the Italian chicken (includes pasta), the king prawn and noodle or chicken caesar (has new potatoes).

WeirdPookah · 24/06/2024 13:33

Got a LOT going on at the moment. I think I need to focus on keeping my weeks on plan and not letting weekends seep into the week and making me give up.

B: kidney bean burrito
L: hard boiled eggs, salad, seeds
D: lentil bolognaise, broccoli, cheese
protein shake iced coffee

SanFranBear · 24/06/2024 14:55

Happy start of the week to you all - apologies I've been awol all weekend but so busy, but it the best way!

I've also been to Wembley this weekend but I was there to watch Starlight Express! Oh my GOD - its different from before but sooooo good! Didn't realise Taylor Swift was also there so was a tad busy but we walked from Waterloo (never 25k up the Grand Union Canal) so didn't feel too bad grabbing a table in a delicious Indian round the corner when everywhere else was full of cowboy boots and glitter!

Also out to the theatre on Saturday (Cluedo 2 - highly recommend!) and then DC stuff... so bit hectic all round
.
All that said, I managed to lose a kg this week - whoop:

SW: 76.6kg
CW: 75.6kg
June GW - 74kg

Back on it today with healthy salad and fruit and the like.. and got Pinch of Nom doner kebab for tea!

I'll catch up properly on the thread now but here's to another fabulous week for us all!

PatienceOfEngels · 24/06/2024 18:38

@WeirdPookah it was only when I stopped my weekend mentality that I started losing weight. Because the weekend wasn't just Friday night, Saturday and Sunday - with Sunday night it was 3 evenings and 2 days. Then I didn't work on Fridays so weekends started Thursday night - half the week! And before I knew it I was buying so many treats and then just 'using them up' that by the time I finished them its as the weekend again! At the moment I'm trying to go cold turkey with upf snacks as once I start I can't stop!

@SanFranBear sounds like you've had a great weekend. I remember watching Starlight Express back in the 90s! Cluedo 2 sounds fun as well (love a good murder).

Had a great day - everything went to plan food-wise, got my steps in, did yoga, short bike ride for some errands, played some guitar, didn't resort to TV or mindless scrolling at all.

Tomorrow's plan:
-boiled egg and toast, coffee
-avocado salad on sourdough
-ploughmans for dinner (sourdough, cheese, butter, olives, pickled onions and gherkins, salad bits and smoked salmon) with greek yoghurt and peach for dessert
-fruit - apple, cherries, peach

-pre-breakfast walk
-yoga
-swim
-journal and morning meditation

PatienceOfEngels · 24/06/2024 18:57

It's suddenly got really hot here and this is the moment every summer when I stress about what to make for dinner that doesn't need to oven/hob on! Sometimes stuff I can prep in the morning.

Ploughmans/picnic tea
Cold pasta salad with bacon bits and hard boiled eggs
Cold chicken and salad wraps
Quiche lorraine with salad (though DH always complains about cold quiche and our oven is on the blink atm)
Hot dogs (only on the hob for a few minutes).

What are your hot weather meals that everyone will eat?

WeirdPookah · 24/06/2024 20:46

@PatienceOfEngels We have a whole run of things on at weekends, and the feeling that I'm planning on eating out or celebrating starts to seep over and stops me doing the right thing for far longer than the event. It's so stupid, I'm fully aware of it, but it still blows my willpower right away.

And old school bean salad is a hot weather dinner here, it's substantial enough to feel like a meal served up with some sort of protein.

RadDarwazeh · 24/06/2024 21:51

For cold lunches I quite like a picky ploughman's tea or a ham cheese and coleslaw salad. Pimp it up with rocket and some fancy cheese because it's only a small amount so might as well enjoy fancy type!

Today was steak and a cauliflower cheese side, lunch was ham salad and I had an almond flour cake with lemon zest and blueberries

PatienceOfEngels · 25/06/2024 07:15

Got a walk in before breakfast so halfway to my step goal. No fox today but did see a jay and a great spotted woodpecker. Stopped on the bench opposite the church for some breathing exercises. Sun peeking through the trees, leaves rustling in the breeze. Just perfect!

Have a lovely day everyone.

ImALittlePea · 25/06/2024 09:18

Morning gang. The thread is feeling so upbeat and full of positivity, lovely to read.

I'm feeling really unwell at the moment. It started before Taylor Swift on Sunday, I dosed up and powered through but felt ill since. Very croaky this morning, meant to be working and got an interview tomorrow! So that's a bit pants. Still, we plough on...

TS was very impressive!! I still wouldn't consider myself a 'Swiftie' but I'm glad I went. We ate at the apartment, just pizza and garlic bread, but one shared between 3 of us so not overly piggy! And had lots and lots of steps. Last night we had sausages, crushed new potatoes (mmmm my favourite!), peas and brown sauce. Very comforting.

It's so hot here today, not what I need when feeling rotten. Shouldn't complain though - it's taken long enough to get out of early spring!

Today's meals...
Lunch - early one before work, think it'll be a simple scrambled eggs and beans, and a greek yoghurt. Hopefully the protein will get me through a hot shift
Dinner - probably spaghetti bolognese and salad. Batch cooked some the other day so a nice easy one before the England game.

Liking the cold lunch and dinner inspo! I think a ploughman's will be on the cards very soon ☺️

GameOfJones · 25/06/2024 11:46

Yesterday was a good day, I keep reminding myself how much better I feel when I eat better food!

B - yoghurt, nuts, strawberries
L - avocado on sourdough toast with some cherries and melon on the side
D - roasted vegetable cous cous, some new potatoes dug up from the garden and coleslaw.

Today's plan

B - yoghurt, nuts, strawberries
L - hummus on sourdough with a portion of fruit
D - daal with cauliflower rice and a side of green veg

I'm trying to stick to my general plan of three meals a day, limiting UPF and no snacks, plus a 12 hour eating window so finishing eating before 7pm and only herbal tea or water in the evenings.

I have stayed the same for two weeks now and I really need to re-focus.

WeirdPookah · 25/06/2024 13:08

I have a horrible feeling I am unwell, my youngest has been coughing, I'm feeling wheezy and now my nose it itchy. My husband has a karate grading at weekend, he cannot be ill!

And I had a migraine today, mostly relieved by the medication I have.

B: kidney bean burrito
L: hard boiled egg, cabbage/springonion/celery/apple salad
D: veggie burger in sandwich thin, salad, vegetarian jelly as a surprise for my daughter after she had some important interview at school today.
iced protein coffee

PatienceOfEngels · 25/06/2024 15:34

Oh no @WeirdPookah and @ImALittlePea - hope your'e both feeling better soon.

I've had a lovely peaceful after school moment as both the DC have gone to play with friends so I did my yoga in peace just now. Lovely swim this morning, picked up some yummy bits for tea and my lunch tomorrow, finished my reports and making for the school year. Life is good.

PatienceOfEngels · 26/06/2024 07:07

WOW -0.9kg!!

SW 77kg (Oct 2023 - was 79kg summer 2022)
CW 71.5kg
GW 68kg (healthy BMI, then onto 63.5kg - 10 stone!)

Pretty much black to what I was beginning of May and still 2.5kg up on the beginning of February.

Saw a red squirrel this morning on my walk (never see grey ones here which are 10 a dozen where I'm from in the UK and still get super excited whenever I see a red one here to the amusement of my DH who has been used to seeing the reds his whole life).

Plan for today:

-boiled egg and rye toast, coffee
-fruit plate at work
-open sandwich on multi-seed bread with lambs lettuce, roasted peppers, goats cheese, lemon juice.
-greek yoghurt, honey and peach
-pasta salad with veggies and boiled egg

Already done a morning walk so half way to my step goal. Will get the rest done at work today.
Done my morning journal and breathing exercise.
Yoga tonight or at the least some hip stretches.

Have a good day everyone!

NothingTraLaLa · 26/06/2024 07:37

Well done @PatienceOfEngels , it’s always nice when the scales are going in the right direction!

Down 1 lb this week, which I’m pleased with though have been to the gym and also swimming over the past couple of days which I think encourages me to lose water weight so it might not be a true loss.

SW 128 lbs
CW 116.2 lbs
TW 112 lbs
