Following on from Aprils Thread

Spring definitely did not arrive in April. Today it’s lovely sunshine here (I hope it is were you are!) and hopefully more is on the way in May; so it’s time to embrace a fresh new month, a fresh new start & fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now maintaining around 8st 12lb; although I’d like to see another half stone off 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes

Hi to everyone who has posted this week. It looks like a few of us have fallen off our wagons in terms of sticking to what we know works for us, and posting for support and accountability on here. I'm certainly one of those, so absolutely zero judgement! I really want to try and get back to it with you all ☺️

Finally got my new scales and stepped on them this morning. We've already fallen out 😏 I'm over a stone heavier than my best weight last year. BUT I know have my new starting point and some fresh determination after seeing that! My BMI is still health range, but right at the top end now. Some work to do!

So. Plan. Our mini break is next weekend. I'd like to have lost something by then. I'm going to weigh Friday/Monday/Wednesday/Friday in the lead up, to really focus my mind. I've volunteered for extra shifts this weekend to avoid weekendiness when it comes to calories in (plus more steps - bonus!). Ultimately, I want to shed around a stone, I think my best weight is between 9st 8lb-10lb, so I'll aim for that range and see how I feel. It's probably not doable, but I'd like to get there before the school summer break, so end of July. If I can get into the 9s by then, I'll be happier.

Intentions:
> Cut bread, crisps and wine back out of the regular diet
> Stick to 16:8 I/F (which tbf, hasn't really slipped)
> Get better at tracking everything on mfp. It really bloody helps with deciding whether or not to actually have that cookie!!
> Need a rotation of easy/filling/low calorie lunches. My old cup-a-soup specials used to keep me going until dinner, until I started working more; need more of these but also want to change it up a bit so I don't end up grabbing a sandwich out of boredom
> Meal plan, shop accordingly, don't buy snacks that I know I can't resist (aldi loaded s&v peanuts - I'm looking at you!!)
> No takeaways until end of July (I'm already on this - DH and kids have had chippy tea twice recently and I've not had a single mouthful!)

Having said all that - it's the half term hols here and I have my job interview today (at midday - annoying time!), and I haven't worked out the meal plan properly yet, so today looks like this:

L - bacon sandwich (395 cals)
D - baked potato, seasoned chicken breast, beans, cheese (785 cals)

That along with my normal cuppas is coming in at around 1200 cals for the day.

ChickenChipsandBeans · 29/05/2024 09:53

I'm guilty of not posting recently. I catch up with the thread every day or do, but haven't posted because I am disappointed in myself that for the last 6 months I have repeatedly had good intentions which then slip and I am continually losing and re-losing the same 3-4kg. I know that if I just got my act together I could shift some weight.....

ImALittlePea · 29/05/2024 10:21

Solidarity @ChickenChipsandBeans my mojo has totally disappeared this year! Time to get it back!

GameOfJones · 29/05/2024 11:44

Solidarity to everyone struggling from me too. I have been guilty of dropping off these threads as I lose motivation, go back to my old ways, put on a few pounds then get myself into a negative cycle. I am determined to get back on track though as I was feeling so good earlier in the year and I want to get back to that feeling!

I've decided I need to stop making excuses and actually focus again. Yesterday's food wasn't great as it's half term and I always seem to struggle when the children are at school, plus we've had visitors and some meals out etc. But I got DDs rallied and we went on a walk to the local park which I'd normally drive to. It was an hour and a half round walk and I felt so much better for doing it.

Today:

B - strawberries, yoghurt, nuts and a coffee
L - hummus on toast and an apple
D - spicy chicken breast, rice, peas
E - I did a quick yoga session (20 minutes) this morning and am planning a walk for my lunch break.

talkingdeadscot · 29/05/2024 12:50

Morning all!

SW - 93kg
CW - 64.9kg
GW - 55kg

I've made sure to note that I'm now in the 64's because I've been hovering between 65.5 and 66kg for bloody weeks. I think I might finally have cracked it. Nutracheck has been very useful for this, Slimming World is just too free and easy. I certainly didn't eat unlimited anything but in 12 weeks I lost barely 2kg. I do think it's got something to do with having my gallbladder removed as well but there was no choice in that so if I have to plod on for longer because it's even harder to lose weight now then that's what I'll do.

My brain is finally catching up with my body and I'm starting to recognise what clothes are the right size rather than always going for the big stuff because I can't see how I can fit in the small stuff. My loose skin's had a bit of a chance to catch up too but it's not going to get much better at my age. No regrets though. Just keep plodding on everyone, it's worth it.

LemonDrizzle23 · 29/05/2024 15:00

Sorry so many people are struggling! Sticking on the thread really does seem to help, although it can be hard if you're feeling bad / guilty about how things are going.

I also didn't weigh this morning, as have had a very foodie weekend for DHs birthday. Literally every meal for 3 days seemed to be a "nice" one. I did keep moving though and kept step count up, so really hoping that has mitigated some damage. Off to London for a couple of days (and pizza tonight 😬). With the rest of the week being half term, I'm aiming for a maintain by next Wednesday I think!

NothingTraLaLa · 29/05/2024 15:04

I hope the interview went well @ImALittlePea

My story is the same as others that have posted recently; I’ve not really been trying my hardest and the result it that I’m ending May at the same weight I was at the beginning of April.

I’ve been trying to use Nutracheck but I don’t get on with all the necessary weighing. I’m not that bothered about accurate calorie counting and would be happy to log e.g. a tablespoon or handful of something rather than weight but I don’t always get that option in the app. Also I dislike that I can’t import recipes from the internet and have to do it manually. I might try My Net Diary for a bit and see if I like it better. Really, I miss the Zoe app (but don’t miss paying the enormous sums of money to use it). The ability to see a log of plants (not just fruit and veg) and UPF eaten, the import recipe feature and the ease of logging without a big focus on calories is what I want. Sigh.

SW 128 lb
CW 117 lbs
TW 112 lbs

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 29/05/2024 21:21

Hi everyone. I weighed in at 10st 4.5 lbs this morning, so 1/2 lb down on last week.

I KNOW that calorie counting and regular posting on here helps, but it’s a bit of a tough time for me just now (1st anniversary of some pretty traumatic loss) so I’m not going to beat myself up. Full on social schedule into the weekend, but after that I’ll have 3 1/2 weeks to knuckle down to reach my 10st by holiday goal, a weight I’ve not been for 16 years.

Good luck getting back on track everyone!

ChickenChipsandBeans · 30/05/2024 07:19

Well ladies I've had the kick up the bum that I needed.... Last night was my daughter's high school graduation ceremony. I felt nice. Had shape wear on to even out the bumps. Heels on, thought my legs looked toned after all the walking.... then I saw the photos. I looked so fat and the lighting was horrible bright lights so even my arms looked full of cellulite. Just such a reality check to how I thought I looked. I do think if I could have changed positions etc it would have looked better, but there was no time as my daughter left within minutes of it finishing. I know I am much better than I was last summer, but yes, to see the reality was very hard.

MrsPepperpotty · 30/05/2024 07:55

Be kind to yourself @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo Daffodil

Ah @ChickenChipsandBeans I hate it when that happens! I'm sure you looked nice - photos are always worse than reality.

Weigh in Thursday for me
SW 15st 4 (in Jan)
CW 14st 0
GW 11st 11

May has not been great for me - I spent it putting on a few pounds and then losing it again! Roll on June!

ImALittlePea · 30/05/2024 11:24

I totally agree with @MrsPepperpotty, photos are always worse than reality - I bet in person you looked great @ChickenChipsandBeans but I totally get that feeling. Maybe try and harness some fresh determination from how the photo made you feel, but don't be down on yourself ❤️

Sending kind thoughts your way @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo you're chipping away despite having a tough time - that's amazing!

I think it went well @NothingTraLaLa, haven't heard yet though - I hate this bit!

Was under my calories for food yesterday, I had a different dinner to that planned (veggie sausages, homemade chips and beans). However I ended up over for the day overall as I had a couple of wines after work.

I'm trying to get back into the habit of properly weighing and measuring what I'm having just to reset my perspective of portions and so on.

Today's plan:
L - cup-a-soup special 😁
D - either curry or spaghetti Bolognese. Not decided yet

Snacks - I needed to take some ibuprofen this morning so had to have something to line my stomach - just a couple of cheese thin biscuits. And I might have had a handful of pringles when the kids were having some - but I weighed them and have logged them! So even though the choice wasn't great, at least I'm not lying to myself about the calorie cost. All part of the process?!

TheRealHousewife · 30/05/2024 17:04

Afternoon you lovely lot ❤️

Wow where has May gone 😮 I’ll be creating the month of June LOSE IT Thread shortly.

I feel your pain @ChickenChipsandBeans I was feeling good about my loss so far (whilst knowing I have a chunk more to go!) And then I saw photos from a recent event... 😭
Remember, those horrible lights are noone's friend, and the camera adds 10lbs... sigh...

Still, I have turned things around in May, so I'm looking forward to the June thread. Thank you @TheRealHousewife

Hi @ImALittlePea Absolutely fantastic to read that you got the job! Well done & Congratulations 🥳. In answer to how I am; to be honest I’m struggling with my back. Can’t sit for long, can’t stand for long and just can’t get any relief. Seeing my neurosurgeon again next 🤞 That said, I’m trying to do what I can and not dwell too much. Distraction is my friend 🥰
