Following on from the LOSE IT! May thread

May came and went in a flash😮. The arrival of June provides the opportunity to embrace a fresh new start & start new habits. If you’re a returner or a new starter feel free to jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost nearly 4 stones. After having been on the wrong side of 12st I am now maintaining around 8st 12lb. I find this weight is sustainable and easy to maintain. If I can do it anyone can 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes.

I would really suggest making sure you have enough vegetables/protein/fibre in your evening meal as well @AFmammaG

PatienceOfEngels · 12/06/2024 07:01

Yesterday went pretty well exercise/food-wise except for the mars ice-cream I snuck when DC were upstairs on devices before dinner!

✅10k steps (morning walk, school run x2 and walk round town)
✅evening yoga (only 10 minutes)
✅Journal
✅no evening snacking/12 hour eating window

Plan for today:

B-boiled egg, rye toast with butter, 2 cups coffee with milk
S - fruit/veg plate
L -italian chicken salad
S - Greek yoghurt (run out of honey!)
D - macaroni with vegetables and bacon

At work so less likely to go off plan.

Exercise - pre-breakfast walk already done ✅Short yoga video this evening.

Already filled in my journal today.

PatienceOfEngels · 12/06/2024 07:03

WOW - Up almost 1kg this week 😱At end of my cycle which explains some, but just not been as consistent as I should have been.

ImALittlePea · 12/06/2024 07:18

Welcome to the thread @AFmammaG may I ask what times you normally eat your meals? I started 16:8 intermittent fasting about 2.5 years ago, it took a few weeks to transition but once I had, my base line appetite was completely transformed and I no longer needed the 'extras' I used to think I did. It isn't everyone's cup of tea though!

Nice to see you back @LegoTherapy I was AWOL for a couple of months too and trying to get back to regular posting and weighing!

We're back from our mini break. We had a fab time but my goodness me, being in a small lodge with 3 children (two toddlers and one with autism and ADHD) is EXHAUSTING 🫠 I'm very much looking forward to a couple of hours to myself to just be quiet this afternoon 😂 not going to focus on the calories consumed, but we also did a LOT of walking so hoping the impact come Friday isn't too bad.

Yesterday's meals:

L - salad of lettuce, tomato, cucumber, spring onion and pepper with some sweet potato falafel, a drizzle of dressing and some low fat houmous. And a small greek yoghurt
D - sweet and sour chicken and rice

Snacks - zero! But I did have two coffees, which I don't normally have. I was incredibly frazzled as the day went on and I did put some wine in the fridge to have a glass, but I had a decaf tea instead and an early night 👍

Today I'm hoping to have the same lunch, however I have a pre-interview test (for another job, the application of which is running alongside the other one which I was offered 😬) over lunchtime so I will have to see how long I have!
Dinner is going to be loaded jacket potato (with bacon, cheddar and spring onion) with a salad.

Good luck to anyone weighing today ❤️

EndlessGuineaPigCycle · 12/06/2024 07:28

WOW today (first one I'm a long time!)

1kg off since Saturday when I restarted my efforts, so feeling pleased with that 💪
My aim is to keep planning each day in advance and find a way of fitting in my new dumbell workout every day, with some treadmilling and dog walking interspersed amongst that.

SW 81.2 kg
CW 78.3 kg
GW 73 kg

EndlessGuineaPigCycle · 12/06/2024 07:30

@ImALittlePea enjoy your quiet time this afternoon, I can relate to that!

GameOfJones · 12/06/2024 07:34

Morning all, just here for WoW. A 1lb loss for me this week which isn't so bad since I wandered off track at the weekend.

SW: 15st 1lb
CW: 14st 4lbs
GW: next mini goal to get into the 13s. Overall goal 11st

Today's plan:

B - yoghurt, nuts, blueberries
L - avocado on sourdough toast and an apple
D - chickpea and black bean fajitas

I also aim for a 12hr eating and fasting window. Normally 7am to 7pm for food and just herbal tea after dinner. Evening snacking was a hard habit to break and I don't always manage it but I had forgotten what being hungry actually felt like as I never let myself get to the point of hunger. It was a big change to realise that you're actually meant to feel a bit hungry before your next meal and there isn't anything wrong with that.

AFmammaG · 12/06/2024 08:29

@PatienceOfEngels thank you for the advice. I agree the less I eat in the evening the better I sleep. Will get some Greek yogurt as that feels like a treat and add some fruit. I am pretty good during the day, which is why I’ve felt like I can have more to eat once the kids are in bed but it’s not good to still be eating at 9/10pm.

Maybe bringing forward my bedtime is the answer.

Flowerchild547 · 12/06/2024 08:30

Hi everyone!
I haven’t been on this thread for a few weeks and have gone a little haywire. I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and have been given medication to help that. I am a little bit relieved that the tiredness I’ve been feeling is probably due to this rather than me just not being able to keep up.
In other news, I am now on week 7 of couch to 5k and on the weekend I did my first ever 5k! It wasn’t fast but it was a start and now I have to keep my motivation going and keep running (well, jogging!).

Hoping to get my motivation back in June and am happy to report that no weight has been put on whilst I’ve been a bit all over the shop diet wise.

Good luck and well done to everyone else who are staying on track!

SW: 17st 10
CW: 15st 9
GW: 10st 10
Total Loss: 29lb

AFmammaG · 12/06/2024 08:32

@ImALittlePea I have breakfast at 6.30am. Fruit at 10am. More fruit at 11.30am. Hot soup around 1pm and then usually a small snack like a cereal bar before I pick the kids up at 3.30. Then dinner at 5.30. I then wait for the kids to go to bed and eat something between 8.30 and 9.30. If I could stop that last snack I think my progress would be much better!

I should add this is on a good day! Although reading it back it sounds like a lot of snacking!

PatienceOfEngels · 12/06/2024 08:47

well done @Flowerchild547 !

I think I would like to restart C25K. I used to be a runner (10 and 15km races) but my last race was 5 years ago and then covid/stress/workload brought everything to a crashing halt.

@AFmammaG I think dropping that final snack will make a big difference, and trying to combine the morning fruit into one snack only. Switching out a cereal bar for unsalted nuts/greek yoghurt will fill you up more and stop a sugar slump (unless they're homemade with no added sugar).

LegoTherapy · 12/06/2024 09:13

Thank you ☺️
56.65kg this morning. I'm happier at 55kg. School hike is back on and am clocking up 10 miles a day on average so far. I've reduced my ultra processed food la in the last 3 weeks and am hoping that will help.
I'll have a read through today and see where everyone is up to.

WeirdPookah · 12/06/2024 10:56

@AFmammaG fruit is great, and even better if it's helping you cut out chocolate or biscuits, but perhaps one of your snacks could be mini cucumbers(or any veg you like) and a little bit of cottage cheese, the protein will help you feel fuller.

I agree with @PatienceOfEngels I sleep so much better on an empty stomach, we eat as a family at 5pm and then I have my cup of tea after getting the children to bed. I guess in a way I am unintentionally doing the window of eating/fasting, as I'm not eating again until nearly 7am.

Been for a 3 mile walk today.

WOW this week because tomorrow is birthday celebrations and those cake carbs will throw havoc on my water weight!

Down 65.4lbs total, after re-losing the same damn 5lbs... again.

B: black bean burrito
L: green banana curry, microwaved poppadom's
D: veggie meatballs, mashed swede and carrot, cabbage

talkingdeadscot · 12/06/2024 11:59

Morning all, here for WOW (which seems to come round extremely quickly!)

SW - 93kg
CW - 64kg
TW - 55kg

Soooo close to 63kg and into the 9's, a loss of 0.3kg this week. The weight's moving down very slowly but as long as it's down I can live with it. I've learnt several lessons whilst trying to lose weight, often the hard way;

  1. I do not need 3 meals a day plus snacks. I'm a very small human in her 60's, I just don't burn that much energy.
  2. I need to keep carbs on the low side and get them mostly from fruit and veg.
  3. Exercise makes no difference to my weight loss but it does make me feel better. You might be different.
  4. I have to trick my body into letting go of chub by varying my daily calories. So my daily target is 1400 but spread over 7 days so some days I'll eat much less, some days a bit more.
  5. Even after 11 months of changing eating habits, I'm still the same binge eater I ever was if I let myself. I accept it by not keeping treats in the house, I fear it's a slippery slope. Yes, I can still eat 6 bags of Quavers in one day.
  6. The big one. If you have a bad day, don't think 'f*ck it, might as well eat everything now and start again Monday'. Just work out what went wrong, pick yourself up and get on with it, now, not next Monday.

Hope that helps someone, just writing it down helps me.

SanFranBear · 12/06/2024 12:47

Hello lovely lovely RealHousewife - it's been a while but you and your super supportive threads made such a difference to me about 2 years ago that I thought I should jump back in!

I've only put on about a stone (maybe a stone and a half 😆) since I got to my lowest with your help but it's annoying me and I'm making the kind of choices that will see that number creep up and up and up (especially as I've got out of the weighing habit!)

So - I am going to jump back on it again and try to shed not just the extra one popped on over the last while but actually try to get to my target weight, which I never did reach!

I'll have to pop back on later with numbers as I'm at work right now but the support and accountability I got from posting here made me want to jump on now and commit!

Hope you, and all the other lovely members of this thread, are enjoying the final advent of summer!

LemonDrizzle23 · 12/06/2024 14:52

I completely missed WOW this morning! Will do it tomorrow instead.

@AFmammaG My evening snack is sometimes a daim bar. It's only 150cal and I wait until til DS is in bed and then savour it! I build it into my daily allowance. I try and finish eating by 7.30pm and then clean my teeth! And then break my fast between 10 and 11 the next day.
That's an ideal day though. I'm def not always that disciplined 😬

LumionaMoonsplash · 12/06/2024 15:48

WOW, no change here :(
Unsurprising really after a boozy night last Friday and missed the gym all last week. Back on it this week, lets hope that this brings next weeks weigh in down.

EndlessGuineaPigCycle · 12/06/2024 17:15

@talkingdeadscot I found your post helpful, thank you.

I also feel that exercise doesn't help me lose weight but I stick with it as it really helps lift my mood

How do you tend to vary calories day by day? I always try and stick rigidly to the same calories target but your approach sounds worth a go

I am also a big binge eater, I rarely plan to have treats in the house but the issue is the local shop is just too nearby!

Definitely relate to the 'start again on Monday attitude'! I do try and start again each day but once I've fallen off the wagon during the day, that's often the entire day out the window!

I also find it very hard to plan in special events that mean I can't stick to plan that day. I've got a couple of evenings out this week, I don't want to blow my healthy eating plan but I don't want to feel like I'm missing out either. It's so hard to find the right balance

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 12/06/2024 17:56

Well down on the C25K @Flowerchild547 I’ve tried it a few times, but I just don’t think I’m a runner!

congrats to those with losses today, I was up and out to a funeral so forgot to weigh so will do tomorrow. Not off to a great start this week, and hurt my back so not been able to exercise which has hampered my plans for the final two weeks before my holidays ☹️.

bit I feel better today so trying to summon to summon motivation to go do a body combat class - I want to focus on cardio and core for the next two weeks. I’ll be getting a lot of steps in when on holiday, and that always challenges my lower back.

evening snacking is my downfall too @PatienceOfEngels even if it’s within my calorie allowance. Must try harder over the next two weeks!

NothingTraLaLa · 12/06/2024 20:51

No change here AGAIN. It’s my own fault, sweet snacks have been creeping back in and I’ve not been exercising as much portion control with meals as I should.

I would like to do more exercise but run into the Long Covid fatigue if I overdo it, and irritatingly especially if I exercise first thing in the morning. I can manage a bit of stretching and some core work, but nothing more strenuous. I still can’t cope with cardio like running or body combat, no matter what time of day. If I go to the gym I just do gentle cycling on the reclined bike, or walking, and some of the arm/leg machines to try and build up some strength.

SW: 128 lbs

TW: 112 lbs

LemonDrizzle23 · 13/06/2024 06:59

Ridiculous non scale victory this week - when the loft ladder is down, I can now squeeze between it and the bannisters to go back and forth across the landing. A few months ago there was too much tummy and arse in the way 😂

Delayed WOW today - 0.4kg loss this week, which I suppose is reasonable considering various people made me "nice" dinners on 4 evenings! Have a weekend away this weekend too, so more nice dinners 😬 hopefully will keep up with the walking though.

SW: 97.5
CW: 91.4

Love that non scale victory 🤣🤣🤣🙌

AFmammaG · 13/06/2024 08:15

Morning all, I had Greek yogurt and some dried nuts last night, so happy about that. I also bought forward bedtime by 15 minutes. Might try doing that a bit more often. Reduces snacking time and I got to sleep surprisingly quickly.

I watched a video comparing 100 calorie portions. The fun size snickers verses strawberries was eye opening. And wotsits verses a banana. I’m thinking carefully about what I’m eating, hopefully it will pay off when I weigh in on Saturday.

LemonDrizzle23 · 13/06/2024 14:32

@rainbow616 It's been much more useful than having to buy new jeans 😂

rainbow616 · 14/06/2024 07:07

So after a month or so of either staying the same weight or putting on 3-4 lbs then losing it the next week, or putting on 5lbs out of nowhere, I started the 5:2 diet to change things up a bit. I've lost 7.2lbs since Monday!! So happy 😁

Jan 24 SW 13st 5.4 lbs
CW 12st 8.4 lbs
GW 28th June 12st 7lbs

Just hope this continues! Hope everyone has had a good week! ☺️
