Following on from the LOSE IT! May thread

May came and went in a flash😮. The arrival of June provides the opportunity to embrace a fresh new start & start new habits. If you’re a returner or a new starter feel free to jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost nearly 4 stones. After having been on the wrong side of 12st I am now maintaining around 8st 12lb. I find this weight is sustainable and easy to maintain. If I can do it anyone can 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes.

Wow @rainbow616 - that's amazing!

Yesterday didn't work out very well food-wise, mainly because work provided lunch and dinner and I didn't make the healthiest choices I could have, plus was late home so skipped yoga.

But I did manage my pre-breakfast walk and an afternoon walk as well so clocked up 14.6k steps!

At home today by myself for the first time in a week and looking forward to some quiet time for yoga.

AFmammaG · 14/06/2024 07:46

@rainbow616 do you mind sharing the key changes you made? That’s a fast loss!

I took my kids to McDonald’s yesterday. I had the chicken salad and a cup of tea. It might have actually been less calories than usual…? In the evening I did an exercise class and then had yoghurt and a banana.

GameOfJones · 14/06/2024 08:00

Morning all!

Yesterday was a reasonable day. I'm still sticking to my quick yoga session in the mornings and managed with no snacking again. Very boringly I'm having the same sort of breakfast and lunch every day but I'm finding it takes all the thought out of it, gets some nutrients into me and fills me up so I'm not hungry before dinner. So I'm sticking with it for now!

B - yoghurt, blueberries, nuts
L - hummus on sourdough toast and a banana
D - vegetable stir fried noodles with pepper, broccoli, coriander and edamame.
E - 15 min yoga session, 30 min lunchtime walk

SanFranBear · 14/06/2024 09:58

So I managed to get my butt onto some scales this morning and can properly assess the damage and get some scores on the doors, so to speak!

CW - 76.6kg
GW - 60kg
June GW - 74kg

Not as awful as I thought it could be but some way from my low of 67kg in December 22 (although thankfully still hugely off my high if 104.7kg in Jan 22!). Soooo - back onto my sort of 5:2 (follow the same general idea but on my 2 days, I aim for about 800 as 500 is just too low for me!) I hope you continue to have such excellent results on it, rainbow - it's great once you're into the swing of it!

None-scale victories are always worth a whoop - and that's a cracker, Lemon. Interestingly, that's what's made me serious about sorting out my 'creep'.. not so much a loft ladder, but the little things... for me, it's getting to the point I need to think about increasing my watchstrap! I refuse to do it!

Sorry to hear about your back, WhatWouldTheDoctorDo - I also struggle (although mine seems linked to the bloody peri-menopause and is quite cyclical in nature but argh - when it's bad, it is dreadful!) I'm a big hiker though and funnily enough, my back and knees behave themselves when I get out into the wilderness, something else I've not managed to do as much of as I should.

Off out to a big concert for my DDs 15th birthday tonight (Doja Cat at the O2) so healthy choices for breakfast and lunch and a train picnic for tea where I will attempt to be mindful! And I did skip the cake for breakfast that the DC indulged in so bit of a win there 😁

Hope everyone else has lovely weekend plans and you're doing fabulously, RealHousewife!

rainbow616 · 14/06/2024 10:21

@AFmammaG so I had my fasting days on Monday and yesterday. Women are supposed to have 500 cals for each of these days but as I've upped my daily steps and I'm also doing things like yoga etc, I've been having between 600-700 for those days. I've tried to keep the carbs right down as well. And I've carried on my Mediterranean diet for the other 5 days x

Hoolahoophop · 14/06/2024 10:28

Sorry, rudely just placemaking as I am back from holiday (via a horrendous virus that kicked in with the Jet lag, in the plus side I think the virus probably helped with the post holiday weight gain.) Will catch up from here and start again with WOW.

Hope everyone has had a good beginning to June.

ImALittlePea · 14/06/2024 10:34

I didn't weigh this morning, forgot it was Friday and drained a glass of water before getting up! 😬

Week has been semi ok. Lunches either a falafel salad or scrambled eggs and beans. Dinners.. had pizza and homemade wedges one night 🤦‍♀️, loaded jacket potato and big salad last night. But I've had wine and crisps when I shouldn't.

Going to spend this weekend trying to find my mojo!! It's really missing. I can't seem to find the meal inspiration I need, and the motivation to stick to what I know I should be doing. I'm going to weigh early next week, then again Friday, to hopefully see a bit of immediate progress.

Can anyone share some simple but tasty lunch and dinners? I need to rebuild a sturdy rotation of meals to plan for!

Hoolahoophop · 14/06/2024 10:53

I like a bit of quiche and salad for lunch this time of year.
Or I recently found a huge pile of very reduced (freezable) pots of tuna, salmon, or crab pate in my local M&S. I've been defrosting those and eating with warmed whole meal pitta at work.
If I can be bothered then I make a home made pot noodle. Itsu soup base sachet with some rice noodles, chilli flakes, frozen spinach and any veg I can find in the fridge that I think may go well. Maybe some soy and fresh coriander.

Dinners I'm struggling with myself as I only want to cook once and my children will only eat fish fingers, chicken Kiev, bolognaise, meatballs or sausages.

SanFranBear · 14/06/2024 10:56

Hi LittlePea (I'm sure we shared some threads back in the day?)...

Can anyone share some simple but tasty lunch and dinners?

I am a big soft boiled egg fan so have them a lot for lunch with soldiers, of course - you can get a fair few out of one slice so don't need to go overboard. I also like homemade filling soups (so chunky rather than smooth - the Hairy Bikers muligatawny is bloody amazing), and can't beat crackers and crispbreads with hummus, marmite, paté or light babybels.

For dinner, I make a lot of Pinch of Nom meals as they're all pretty low calorie. Some are simpler than others but I do really rate them and there's a fair few online. When I don't have my DC, it's aaaaall about fish and seafood - really healthy and you can do almost anything with them without piling on the calories. Marinated salmon is lush but fish curry (tomato based) is sooo good - and you can get amazing frozen fish pie or seafood mix which can be knocked into a stew or 'interesting' salad really easily. Mussels in white wine and garlic which you simply microwave are incredibly good - I buy from Lidl for about £3!

I'm hungry now 😉

RadDarwazeh · 14/06/2024 21:28

I looooove pinch of nom meals @SanFranBear !

Thank you for the new thread, just caught up

Just thought I'd share my win! So proud of myself, list 2.17kg in a week! I'm doing akin to but not as strict as a diet similar to keto but this has meant I have upped my veggie intake via salads and cut out evening snacking and chocolates and crisps (my utter downfall)

My mum asked for some biscuits today which I opened for her a new packet and resisted

Two people bought in celebrations for the staff at work and I resisted but godddd do I want a packet of maltesers!

LemonDrizzle23 · 15/06/2024 10:34

@SanFranBear I think the non scale victories make the weight loss more real than just watching a number go down for me. And yes, whatever the opposite of a NSV is, is definitely what drove me to join this thread! Struggling to shop in vaguely trendy / fashionable shops was my big one, and continues to be a massive motivation.

@ImALittlePea I struggle with lunches too beyond eggs. Some nice suggestions there from others.

Amazing meal 1 of the weekend last night. Was spectacular. Partially offset by 18,000 steps. Another busy day of city walking today and another nice meal tonight. Planning to thoroughly enjoy them and just try and eat a little healthy during the day.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend

AFmammaG · 15/06/2024 11:02

Weighed in this morning I lost 1.6lbs this week. Saying no to all the treats paid off plus hopefully that explains the very low loss the previous week.

Plan for the next week is more of the same, trying to stick to 3 meals with fruit, yogurt and nuts for evening snacks. No alcohol, plenty of water and doing 30 minutes of exercise each day. Would like to lose another pound next week, which will take me to 3lbs in 3 weeks.

SanFranBear · 15/06/2024 19:09

Following our fun night last night, DD has friends over for a kiddies birthday tea today - 15 but still wants sausages on sticks, frubes and little finger sandwiches 😁 Has meant my 'mindful choices' have gone a little haywire today but I like to think all the dancing yesterday offset it??!

Planning a walk tomorrow though which will definitely help - I need something more challenging than those in my very local area so might have to take some leave and tackle something meaty! I know it is more about diet than exercise but I find in less inclined to overindulge after!

Hope everyone is having a more 'successful' Saturday!

PatienceOfEngels · 16/06/2024 07:22

Yesterday:

B-boiled egg and rye toast, butter, coffee
L-cheese and salad sandwich with mayo on sourdough
D - hairy biker's chorizo chicken bake (God I love this dish! But can still taste the garlic! Also had way more than their portion size)

Snacks! This is my downfall - Time to be honest.....
-watermelon
-small apple
-a Freddo
-2 slices of sourdough with butter
-a Mars ice cream
-unsalted nuts and chunks of cheese (last 2 after dinner)

I'm pretty sure the above is why I'm not losing any weight atm!

Went on a long walk by myself in the afternoon which was great for my soul (beautiful day, very windy with some blue skies and crazy clouds) and also helped me get my steps in - 11.5k.

Didn't manage my yoga but clearing up the house did help me find some calm (find myself getting super stressed when everything is a mess). Keeping up with my journal.

Currently exhausted whihc I think is the result of 2 late nights and being at the end of my cycle.

Just about to head out for a morning walk, yoga later. Might try and potter in the garden and get some new houseplants to cheer up the lounge.

Food plan for today:
B- boiled egg and rye toast with butter, coffee
L-sour dough and something
D-chicken korma (HD recipe) with rice and broccoli
S-watermelon, Greek yoghurt

Aim for no evening snacks!

RadDarwazeh · 16/06/2024 19:10

@PatienceOfEngels I think mars ice cream is the best ice cream ever. It's so delicious 😋

Have you tried maybe a decaff tea for the evenings? It helps me stop snacking

LegoTherapy · 17/06/2024 07:18

Morning all. I had take away Chinese yesterday-noodles, veg spring rolls and sweet and sour tofu and today I'm 1kg up. That's just the salt but shows how much extra salt makes a difference. I didn't eat lunch so just toast and the take away yesterday. It will go by tomorrow after lots of water I hope. I'm hoping to get into the 55kg bracket by Friday but it's not looking likely. Before the take away I was 56.5kg. I have a very stressful week ahead with a teams meeting with my abusive exH and two of his handmaidens (his ex and current gf) and then a school event that they will be at. I've not met either handmaiden but been subjected to hell by the ex gf so it's going to be great fun this week. I feel sick.

The good news is that the weather is set to improve here in the UK. I've got my thick fleece hooded dressing gown on and it's June ffs!

Breakfast is homemade bread toast, lunch porridge, dinner lentil, carrot and celery soup with homemade bread rolls.

Have a good day y'all.

GameOfJones · 17/06/2024 07:34

That sounds difficult @LegoTherapy , I hope your week goes OK.

I didn't have the best weekend. Saturday was OK, small brunch and then a roast dinner at home but yesterday there was too much wine, chocolate and chips! Onwards and downwards though and back to it this morning.

tahinitoast · 17/06/2024 11:32

Hello I would like to join if possible! Love the idea of posting what I eat for accountability and getting inspo by looking at what others are having!

I have at least a stone to lose. Got a holiday in October I would like it to be gone for but hopefully will be 1.5 stones down.

Have ditched the booze and am trying to stick to 3 x runs/work outs a week. Love food so can get carried away on weekends especially 🙈

SanFranBear · 17/06/2024 22:55

Hi Tahini!

I've had a good day today with lots of fruit, salad and protein with a lovely Pinch of Nom cheeseburger pizza for dinner 😄Sounds dreadful but it's basically a small amount of mince on a wrap with lots of veg and pickles - sooo many pickles. Well, to be fair, the recipe doesn't call for many pickles but they're just sooo delicious - you can never have too many!

I didn't walk yesterday in the end as exhausted from a full on weekend and it's also looking unlikely midweek - here's hoping for this first real week, a focus on food will kick-start the losing streak.. I can but hope!

Sounds like a tough week, Lego - why do Ex's make life so hard at times? Hope it all goes OK! And hope you're ok too, RealHousewife x

LemonDrizzle23 · 18/06/2024 09:25

Welcome @tahinitoast - you're not alone in finding weekends a challenge!

We've been away for a long weekend, so I've had "nice" dinners for the last 4 nights. The scale is showing about a 1.5kg gain, which I'm guessing is temporary, but might be avoiding WOW tomorrow 😂

I know the key is consistency and just to get back on it now. The sun is out, I'm going for a walk around the lake.

5 weeks til summer holidays, so still time to make some changes.

WeirdPookah · 18/06/2024 11:06

So birthday celebrations were lovely, but lots of cake and party food, and now we have so much on every weekend. It's so hard to find focus.

Eaten a sensible breakfast today, had some cherries for snack after walking 3 miles.

B: black bean burrito
L: mixed dal, poppadoms
D: veggies burger on sandwich thin, salad

GameOfJones · 18/06/2024 12:57

Welcome @tahinitoast, this is a really friendly bunch of people. I also really struggle with weekends. I can be totally fine all week but then binge at the weekend. It's something I'm working on as I slowly start to realise how much better I feel when I eat healthier.

Yesterday

B - yoghurt, nuts, strawberries
L - falafel salad plus some vegetable sushi and a diet coke (Tesco Meal deal as I was dashing in-between meetings)
D - pesto and broccoli gnocchi
S - an ice lolly in the garden with DDs after school
E - quick yoga session

Today

B - yoghurt, nuts, strawberries
L - ham and cheese crustless quiche plus a banana
D - jacket potato and beans
E - gym session (weights and exercise bike)

TheRealHousewife · 18/06/2024 20:44

Hi Everyone

I just thought I’d check in with you all. Apologies for not being active this past few months; in addition to health issues I’m also dealing with some difficult personal stuff. It’s kinda taking my joy away and I’m trying to get myself more together. I promise to try harder!

Sending positive vibes to you all ❤️

PS A Warm Welcome @tahinitoast . Great support to be had on these threads 👍

Sending very big hugs, RealHousewife... you don't need to 'try harder', you've been steering this ship flawlessly for years.. look after yourself x

I've had a good day but am very hungry now which isn't great but I shall find a way to distract myself to avoid the dreaded evening snacking:

B - banana and apple
L - salad with ham & egg, a pack of lentil curls and some strawberries
D - homemade chicken kiev, wedges, carrots & brocolli
S - a gorgeous, scrummy, 'warm from my tea' stroopwaffel... DDs current obsession so they just sit there, tempting me so had to indulge!

Was thinking about starting the 30 Day Shred again.. I've started it many, many times and even completed it once but argh - it sucks! But, it definitely gets results and is only a half hour every day... sigh!

GameOfJones · 19/06/2024 07:56

Sending you positive thoughts @TheRealHousewife

WoW today and I've stayed the same. Trying to not be too disappointed that my weight loss is soooo slow!

SW: 15st 1lb
CW: 14st 4lbs
Next goal......get into the 13s

Today will be tricky as I'm out for dinner with some work clients. I'm going to look at the menu beforehand and decide what I'm having in advance.
