Following on from the LOSE IT! May thread

May came and went in a flash😮. The arrival of June provides the opportunity to embrace a fresh new start & start new habits. If you’re a returner or a new starter feel free to jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost nearly 4 stones. After having been on the wrong side of 12st I am now maintaining around 8st 12lb. I find this weight is sustainable and easy to maintain. If I can do it anyone can 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes.

Good morning everyone, a 2lb loss for me this week which I'm really pleased with.

SW: 15st 1lb
CW: 14st 5lbs
Next goal: get into the 13s

Today's plan:

B - yoghurt, blueberries and nuts plus a latte
L - avocado on toast and an apple
D - tofu and vegetable rice paper rolls (trying a new recipe in the air fryer..... we'll see how it goes!)
E - quick yoga session at lunchtime

tweetypi · 05/06/2024 10:33

Well done @GameOfJones!

I'm not weighing this week, I think I'll be up due to water retention, still feeling very sore from my workouts! I went to a Core class yesterday which was surprisingly fun. I had signed up to another class today but think I might be overdoing it so I might just go for a light swim instead!

Yesterday was good food wise:
B - Greek yogurt with granola
L - Omelette
D - Pasta Bake

Had a few M&Ms in the evening but o weighed them out and logged them so I think that was fine. Not managing to keep my calories super low with the exercise but still managing a decent deficit each day so hopefully that is a positive.

I'm going out for dinner at an Indian tonight which has definite potential to derail me so I'm making a commitment to check in again tomorrow and get back on it!

SW: 15st
CW: 12st 12lbs
Next Goal: 11st 12lbs on 31st August.

I've had 6wks off to get my Peri symptoms in check and I'm back on WL this month for the next 12 weeks, I'm aiming for at least a stone in the next 12weeks.

I want to eat healthier, reduce ultra processed food and increase water. I have just bought a fake Stanley cup from B&M which is getting used loads, I'm always needing a wee. I've started to bake my own wholemeal rolls and making my own pizzas from scratch, I'm ok at smaller portions and fasting until lunchtime but my downfall is evening snacks, wine and chocolate which ruins all my good work during the day. This is what I will be working on over the next 12wks.

NothingTraLaLa · 05/06/2024 15:44

Hmmm, not a great one today. I’m up on last week but should be about to start my period (although who knows? These days it is tediously unpredictable) which might have caused it as I’ve been generally on track as far as food goes over the last week.

SW 128 lbs
CW 118.2 lbs
TW 112 lbs

LemonDrizzle23 · 07/06/2024 07:16

We I am managing to keep up with my walking everyday. Averaging between 13-15,000 steps I would say! Although half an hour of weeding our gravel driveway yesterday was enough to make me want a lie down afterwards 😂 the world's most uncomfortable task.

Weight is trending downwards. Weekends are still the hardest time for me - although I'm making an effort to keep my steps up. What's everyone up to? We have little planned for tomorrow, but heading to my folks for lunch on Sunday which will be nice.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 08/06/2024 01:15

Hi everyone, mad few days weeks but weighed in at just under 10st 4lbs this week which I was really pleased with. Not sure I’ll get to 10st by holidays, but I’ll get as far as I can. Had some very complimentary chat about my weight loss from some colleagues I don’t see very often this week which was nice!

Evening All

I feel very saddened to hear about Dr Michael Mosley R.I.P. 💔 Michael was so close to reaching safety/health care but alas he succumbed in the piercing heat. He will be very much missed. My thoughts are with his wife Claire and their 4 adult children at this time; such a devastating loss 😢😢😢

Hi everyone,
Hope you all had a good weekend.
I'm planning a fresh start next week and am posting tomorrow's menu here for accountability.

B scrambled egg on toast
L Buritto bowl with crispy kale
D Omelette and carrot chips
S Highlights, frothy coffee, strawberries

I've been doing really well on the exercise front recently, doing a combination of treadmill and dumb bell workouts, I'm definitely feeling more toned. My weight has been creeping up a bit lately though, need to follow a healthy eating plan at the same time!

This coming week is due to be very manic so I'll be relying on simple meals and ready meals most probably.

rainbow616 · 09/06/2024 21:41

I'm so upset to hear the news about Michael Mosley. I listened to his podcast every week. Can't believe he's gone 😢

PatienceOfEngels · 10/06/2024 06:50

I've come to realisation that I need to learn how to take action now and stop making excuses for myself. There's always a reason why I'm putting off making good choices and taking care of myself: just need to get this project finished, just need to meet this deadline.

So, today is a fresh start to get shit done and look after myself!

Intentions for the week:
-pre-breakfast walk
-evening yoga
-daily journalling
-no evening snacking

Today:

-went for a pre-breakfast 3km walk while everyone else was asleep.
-set my intentions in my journal for the day
-breakfast: boiled egg, rye toast and butter, coffee with milk

Working from home this morning as DC1 has inset day. Will get working as soon as DH and DC2 leave at 8:15. Have a normal break time with fruit. Drink lots of water.

-Lunch at home: chicken kofta sandwich with lettuce, tomato, cucumber and garlic sauce.
-Dinner: chicken curry with rice.

No evening snacking. Yoga after dinner. Herbal tea and Journal.

EndlessGuineaPigCycle · 10/06/2024 22:44

Sounds like a good plan @PatienceOfEngels. I like your idea of viewing this all like a work project 👍

I'm pleased to report I managed to stick to plan today, despite a pretty stressful day.

My menu tomorrow:
B chia pudding
L Burrito bowl
D Omelette
S cashews, highlights, frothy coffee

WeirdPookah · 11/06/2024 06:30

Oh I am so glad to see MN have made a separate forum for injectables. I am utterly sick of the sight of those threads. Clearly taking them also makes you incapable of reading the many preceding threads answering your exact same questions.

I'm really struggling to be honest. I have so many things coming up, I have a terrible all-or-nothing attitude, and all those things coming flip a switch and I feel like I might as well give up now. Utterly non-sensical I know!! Because if I do the right things now, it will mitigate the special days much more!

In the midst of birthday celebrations now, doing things on Thursday and Sunday, then there is just something every weekend.

Stayed mostly on plan yesterday, plans for today in place.

PatienceOfEngels · 11/06/2024 06:51

@EndlessGuineaPigCycle what I meant was I'm always using the stress from work projects/deadlines (and non-work events) as excuses to eat rubbish and put off looking after myself.

Mid 2022 I was finishing my part-time MA, coming out of 2 years of lockdowns/pandemic restrictions, working 3 days a week, 2DC (1 with SEN), barely having seen my family in the UK because of covid, and I was the heaviest I'd every been bar pg with DC2. And I was still stuffing my face with UPF everyday to get through, seeing it as a treat, a reward for getting through the day/finishing an essay. I was sweaty, constipated, massive spare tyre around my waist, getting out of breath, difficult to tie my shoelaces, and yet I was still telling myself, I'll sort myself out once my thesis is finished in a month.

I ended up suffering some serious health problems while writing up my thesis which took me out of the running at work for a month and now flare up every time I'm stressed.

I've just caught myself doing it again. I was really stressed in February with my exam class which extended to when they left in April, followed by Oftsed, followed by the school play, and now I'm stressing about all my end of year marking and reports to get done in the next 2 weeks.

In theory I know what I need to do to make myself feel better - and I do feel better than I did 1-2 years ago: sweaty spells have gone, 7kg down - but feel like I've stalled a bit at the moment. I need to build in time for yoga, meditation, walks and deal better with my everyday stresses.

But I need to actually do it 😂

Yesterday went quite well. Got in my pre-breakfast walk, 15 minutes yoga in the evening, journaled.
BUT did snack in the evening instead of just having a herbal tea.

Today's plan is already off to a rocky start as I ignored my alarm for a pre-breakfast walk and haven't yet picked up my journal so going to do that now.

B - boiled egg, sourdough with butter, coffee with milk

Do my morning journal/set my intentions for the day.
Head out for a short walk after school run and pick up bits for dinner/lunch.
Get a bit of school work/admin done.

S-fruit smoothie

life admin/housework OR take DC1 out to library (inset day)

L - ??? maybe make an italian chicken salad with pesto and macaroni
D - chicken and leek pie with potatoes and carrots

Do yoga after dinner, journal and herbal tea after DC in bed.

PatienceOfEngels · 11/06/2024 06:54

@WeirdPookah this i my problem too! all or nothing. I crack and then think sod it, may as well finish that packet of biscuits now.

Agree with all the weight loss jab threads.

We have a clear run of weekends coming up and the weeks are now so jammed (with end of year activities) that I am not making any more plans.

Sorry my post above was really long!

AFmammaG · 11/06/2024 08:24

Please can I join? I’ve been looking for somewhere to chat! I have a target of losing 7lbs for the summer holidays. The first week of June I ate really well and I lost 0.7 of a pound… a bit disappointing but I’ve carried on. I will weigh in again on Saturday and hope to have improved my performance.

I’m not following a diet as such, I’m trying to eat better, cut out as much junk as I can, up the water, up the sleep and no alcohol. I should look and feel better for summer if I can keep it up!

Welcome! This is a very supportive thread. Losing 0.7lb in a week is great!!! I haven't really lost anything since February, just toying up and down between 69 and 72kg. Definitely need to be a bit more consistent!

GameOfJones · 11/06/2024 10:24

I had a cry when the news broke about MM. I loved his Just One Thing podcast and listened to it every week. He is the reason I started eating a handful of nuts with my breakfasts! I'll continue the habit and give him a tiny mental thank you every morning.

B - yoghurt with strawberries and nuts
L - avocado on toast and some raspberries
D - beef hotpot and tenderstem broccoli
E - a walk and cleaning the house today to hit my 10k steps

LegoTherapy · 11/06/2024 14:48

Hello, please could I shuffle back in? I had to leave MN because I couldn't cope with the animated adverts on my screen.

PatienceOfEngels · 11/06/2024 15:55

Welcome back @LegoTherapy !

AFmammaG · 11/06/2024 17:04

Thank you@PatienceOfEngels. I’m very keen to see what people are eating in the evening after their main meal. I’ve managed to stop the crisps and chocolate. I now have a yoghurt or some dried nuts but it’s not very filling.

WeirdPookah · 11/06/2024 19:35

@AFmammaG my husband has perfected making tea, and that's all I have. As I mentioned above, the all-or-nothing attitude reigns, so I have my tea and that is that. I can't have anything else, or it's a spiral.

@PatienceOfEngels we have every weekend with something from now until the school holidays! I really have to grab this stupid attitude and squash it down, otherwise I might as well be just giving up now until September, which is just crazy and damaging to my health.

Eaten on plan today
B: black eyed bean burrito
L: broccoli and small serving leftover vegan chili chicken from takeaway
B: veggie periperi chicken burger on sandwich thin, salad, small amount low fat coleslaw

AFmammaG · 11/06/2024 20:38

Thanks @WeirdPookah, I feel like I’ve got a grip on over eating chocolate and crisps in the evening (which wasn’t easy). Now I want to eat a better variety of food. I can’t eat nothing in the evening 🫣 Not unless I go to bed after dinner!

So I’m looking for ideas that are fairly low in calorie, will still add something to my diet but won’t tempt me to binge.

EndlessGuineaPigCycle · 11/06/2024 23:02

Evening all, I managed to stick to plan for the second day in a row! I have been feeling hungry this evening though.

Menu for tomorrow
B Porridge with flax seeds and pomegranate
L Lentil Risotto
D veg curry and mini naan
S Highlights

PatienceOfEngels · 12/06/2024 06:52

@AFmammaG like @WeirdPookah if I want to lose weight I need to have nothing after dinner. If I'm in the habit if evening snacking after dinner I am not eating because I'm hungry, it's purely out of habit and craving. Stopping evening snacking means I do then get a bit hungry for the first few days after stopping but if you can get through that everything seems to settle. We eat pretty early (between 5 and 6.30pm) and I now find that I am hungry when I wake up - but that's a good thing! I spent years overeating and had forgotten what it feels like to be hungry with the constant snacking and long eating day.

I've tried to do intermittent fasting in the past and struggled with missing or delaying a meal so now just try for a 12 hour eating window (usually 6:30 am - 6:30pm for me). If I know I'm out for dinner and eating late then I try to delay breakfast a bit.
My goal is to stick to 3 meals a day with a snack in the morning of fruit/veg and Greek yoghurt with honey in the afternoon (sometimes I skip my afternoon snack). I don't calorie count but just try to have home cooked meals and as little UPF as possible. Lunch is usually hot and includes vegetables (jacket potato, leftovers from dinner, salad, soup). Breakfast is almost always a hard boiled egg and slice if rye toast.

When transitioning to no evening snacking from eating every evening I stuck to fruit, veg, plain Greek yoghurt or unsalted nuts only. Once I start having something sweet or cheese it's game over! Now I try to drink water or have a herbal tea if I feel tempted.

I notice that once I stopped snacking in the evening I felt a lot better in the morning. More clear headed, less dry mouth, slept better, less likely to snore, less bloated. Sweet stuff has me falling asleep on the sofa and salty stuff really affects my sleep.
