Following on from Aprils Thread

Spring definitely did not arrive in April. Today it’s lovely sunshine here (I hope it is were you are!) and hopefully more is on the way in May; so it’s time to embrace a fresh new month, a fresh new start & fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now maintaining around 8st 12lb; although I’d like to see another half stone off 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes

Thank you for the new thread, I hope you can feel brighter in your health as time progresses.

My goal for May is to actually lose something!!

I've lost the Christmas gain, just a pound of so of holiday gain to go. I really have to stop bouncing around the same weight, and make some progress.

RadDarwazeh · 30/04/2024 14:02

I'm in. Just booked a holiday in August and want to fit into my summer clothes again. Just starting today with you all, good luck everyone!

I know my gain is mainly food and snacks related so I've tried to calm that down today. Slow periods at work make me snack which is silly as I know it's boredom related.

It's beautiful and sunny here. One day of sun before the rain begins again!

Trying to up my water intake too as it's so low but my toddler keeps nicking my bottle.

LemonDrizzle23 · 30/04/2024 14:17

Gladly jumping on to this new thread - thank you very much @TheRealHousewife. Sorry to hear your back is still giving you grief. Hopefully the thread can provide some distraction!

First of May and first WOW of May tomorrow. I'm ready to go!

Hoolahoophop · 30/04/2024 14:26

I'm in again please, sorry to hear you are suffering @TheRealHousewife good luck for May everyone may the self discipline be with you and the munchies off on spring break.

TheRealHousewife · 30/04/2024 14:50

Great you see you all on board For May @WeirdPookah @Hoolahoophop @LemonDrizzle23 @RadDarwazeh 👍

Thank you for your kind words. Re back:- I have a degenerative disease and I’ve previously had surgery for a compressed spinal cord. Similar is thought to be happening again. It is what it is.

Loving your go getter attitude @LemonDrizzle23 👍👏

@RadDarwazeh Nothing like a holiday to boost motivation 👙😬👍

Reporting for May duty! April was a washout (in more ways than one).

my dream was to get to 10st by my holiday at the end of June. I’ve been hovering around 10st 6/7 for the last couple of months, so with 8 weeks to go, the pressure is on.

I’ll be trying to be more consistent with logging calories, maintaining an exercise regime, trying to resist weekend snacks, staying off the wine unless going out etc. (though I have two boozy events in the first two weekends 🤦🏻‍♀️ and WOW.

thank you for returning to set us up for May @TheRealHousewife here’s hoping for some ☀️☀️☀️this month!

talkingdeadscot · 30/04/2024 22:15

Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife. Checking in with a commitment to knuckle down and start shifting the last 20lbs, I don't want to drift around with this extra weight for any longer than necessary.

mustbefunny · 01/05/2024 06:25

SW: 152lbs
CW: 151lbs

TW #1: 150lbs
TW #2: 147lbs
TW #3: 140lbs

Lunch is made, aiming for two meals, no snacking on week days with a little bit of leeway built in at weekends

RunnyPaint · 01/05/2024 06:29

Happy new month! Thanks for the new thread 😊 Hope you are feeling better soon.

I thought it was nearly 7 when I woke up, so I got up, fed the cat and made a cup of tea, then realised it was only 6.05 😳

Anyway, I weighed myself: down 1 lb from last week, but that had been up 2 lb from the previous week (friend's birthday celebrations). So, back to 9 st 5 lb, aiming at 9 st 2 lb.

Good luck WOWers.

LemonDrizzle23 · 01/05/2024 07:48

Good morning WOWs - here's hoping some pounds are lost in May.

Fresh start as it's a new month, my jumping off point is 92.9kg today. My goal is to see something in the 80s by the end of the month. The flash of warm weather yesterday reminded me I have a way to go if I want to feel more comfortable this summer!

I have a lunch out on Friday and Sunday, but otherwise everything home cooked is my aim.

Good luck to everyone weighing.

Hoolahoophop · 01/05/2024 08:18

Bad week so up 1kg on last week.

Must try harder

SW: 58kg
CW: 57.2kg
GW: 50kg

Turns out at a few weeks of strict diet can turn into maintenance after a bad week.

No plan for today so far. Will try to think of something healthy for dinner, skip breakfast and have smoothie for lunch.

Flowerchild547 · 01/05/2024 09:11

Hello everyone!
@TheRealHousewife thank you for the new thread. Sorry to hear about your health.

April was definitely not a good month for me. Not many losses at all due to getting complacent and portion creeping bigger.

However I am ready for May! I started couch to 5k this week to help me exercise. I have recalculated my calories and lowered them based on current weight. Hoping these small changes will make big differences!

SW: 17st 10
CW: 15st 12
GW: 10st 10
Total Loss: 26lb

TheRealHousewife · 01/05/2024 10:17

Good Morning

Thank you @Flowerchild547. Good luck with your couch to 5k 👍

WOW 9st - up 2lbs.

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo Your goal sounds doable. What I found helped me was to totally knock UPFs, sugar, alcohol & simple carbs on the head. I concentrated on getting in the protein, healthy fats and fibre as well as staying hydrated. My foods include mainly fish, chicken, veg, fruit (low sugar ones strawberry, raspberry & rhubarb), salad, olive oil, legumes and nuts.

Remember weight loss isn’t linear. Try not to worry about small gains in the numbers. As long as you’re losing over the long term expect a few bumps in the road.

Thank you for the new thread @TheRealHousewife and I hope things pick up for you health-wise soon.

I’ve been on something of a plateau for about 6 weeks. Fingers crossed that we’ll have better weather as that definitely helps me eat more healthily.

GCSEs are about to hit the household so I’m going to make sure we have nicely balanced meals to support exams and revision. I try to do that anyway, but sometimes things don’t quite go to plan!

SW 128lbs
CW 116.8 lbs
TW 112 lbs

Walked 5 miles, into town and back, had an eye test as I have been worrying about the fact one eye seems long sighted, the other short, with general age slight degeneration. I just find it super scary.

B: kidney bean burrito
L: minestrone
D: fish fingers, cauliflower/potato mash, mushy and green peas

ChickenChipsandBeans · 01/05/2024 13:08

Happy May everyone. Sorry to hear about your back @TheRealHousewife . Quite inspirational for you to be so positive and helpful on the thread when you are dealing with that. April didn't work either. Yet again I lost and regained the same 2-3kg. I need an overhaul I think, so I'm increasing calories to 1500 but also upping exercise. I find that if I can have a larger portion, I don't feel the need to snack as much.

6km walk ✔
B-eggs on toast
L-leftover chicken breast and a few potato wedges

Hoolahoophop · 01/05/2024 14:33

Have a plan for today now.

B: Porridge with raisins
L: Lentil Soup
D: King prawn stir fry

About 800cal

Will probably snack this evening, but try to keep that to under 200cal

Walk 10K Steps
Do a pilates workout

GameOfJones · 01/05/2024 18:58

Hello all, I've been AWOL for April as I never really got back on track after Easter and the school holidays. I'm firmly back on it now and really wanting to get going again. Consequently my numbers are not where I want them to be but I'm going to keep on keeping on.

SW: 15st 1lb

CW: 14st 3lbs

GW: I want to be firmly in the 13s by the end of May. I'm trying not to focus on the overall goal as it seems insurmountable but I'm setting mini goals.

Today has been a busy day and I've walked 7 miles according to my Fitbit.

My general plan is limiting alcohol, limiting snacking to something sweet once a week but portioned and sticking to a meal plan.

Really sorry to hear about your back @TheRealHousewife

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 01/05/2024 19:11

I will be going over calorie count today, been at a work event all day which included chicken burger and carrot cake for lunch.

No regrets though, carrot cake was lush 😄

I did get 12000 steps in walking around the expo so hopefully that will somewhat mitigate the extra food.

Rewis · 01/05/2024 19:15

I'm going to get my shit together now. We had a ridiculous snowstorm last week and I've been coughing my lungs out so I haven't been able to really exercise and lost my mojo a bit. But now sin is shining and it's nice and warm outside so time to get my shit together again!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 01/05/2024 20:01

Hi everyone, pleased (and surprised) to report a 1lb loss so now at 10st 5lbs, which makes that 10st goal feel much more achievable.

thanks for the encouragement @TheRealHousewife

i was also at a work thing @FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain which involved a scone, crisps and a chocolate biscuit, so i’m also over calories for the day, but hopefully will claw the excess back over the week!

mini goals absolutely make sense @GameOfJones

We’re in exam season now @NothingTraLaLa (Nat 5s - Scottish equivalent of GCSEs), so healthy meals all round, but plenty of snacks for DS while he’s home on study leave all day. He’ll be half way through by the end of the week - he was grumpy that so many of his exams were in the first two weeks, but now a bit smug that he has fewer ahead of him than his friends!

@ChickenChipsandBeans i definitely feel myself reaching for a snack or some kind of supper if a low calorie day leaves me feel ravenous, so I’ll be watching out for that too this month!

VallesMarineris · 01/05/2024 22:28

@TheRealHousewife thank you for the thread, and 💐

I’m glad it’s May. Easter plus four family birthdays meant far too much choc and cake in April. Add in lots of life getting the way of good intentions.

Longer days, a bit of sun, my chesty cough is finally lessening, and I weighed for the first time in several weeks. Ready to get back on track and lose enough to be comfy in the summer.

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 01/05/2024 22:51

starting over for may.
same old same old 15lbs
the last 3 weeks have been dreadful with food noise and cravings.
and caving to the cravings.
multivits and water bottle at hand and so far a good am but it's 2:30 here and my days too quiet. i need to step away from the kitchen before i dive into the nuts and dried fruit.
lots of weeds in the yard for me to tackle.

thank you for the new thread @TheRealHousewife and i hope you have some answers soon.

janeljl · 02/05/2024 06:42

Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife Sorry to hear about your back!

I lost a grand total of 2.25lb in April and I'm now more aware of where I'm going wrong. Unsurprisingly it's snacks, comfort eating and struggling to get enough steps in as I work from home and the weather is still dire.

The hardest thing is trying not to overdo it at dinner when I've had a bad day or when DD is being a pain. I just end up eating way too much thinking it will make me feel better.

We go away at the end of June and I hope to see an 8 on the scales by the end of May!
