Following on from Aprils Thread

Spring definitely did not arrive in April. Today it’s lovely sunshine here (I hope it is were you are!) and hopefully more is on the way in May; so it’s time to embrace a fresh new month, a fresh new start & fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now maintaining around 8st 12lb; although I’d like to see another half stone off 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes

I did the Me 360 body scan app the other day and that was depressing, I'm basically a barrel with spindly legs and no arse to speak of. Hoping when I do it again in a couple of months there will be some hint of a waist.

On track to lose at least 1 lb this week I think, we'll see when I weigh in tomorrow morning.

Loving all the sun this weekend and taking full advantage to get the garden sorted which also counts as my exercise!

TeenLifeMum · 05/05/2024 12:26

@FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain where are you? We had sun yesterday but it’s back to raining again today 😭😩 so fed up of muddy dog walks

ImALittlePea · 05/05/2024 14:35

(slopes back in hoping nobody notices...)

I'm back and ready to kick myself up the bum this month. I fell off the thread mid March, had a whirlwind few weeks and I name changed to get some advice on something quite big that's been happening, every time I came back to post I had forgotten to change back... I needed the other username for something ongoing and couldn't be doing with remembering to change it back and forth (especially as a family member was on my posts). But that's dealt with, I've taken a bit of time out, and my legume status is back! 🫛

I realise no-one asked for an explanation 😆 but I've missed the support from this thread and in turn, feel bad for not being present on it for so long.

Anyway.

I'm a blob at the moment. I was getting close to target, and have put over half a stone (at least) on recently.. I know it won't be too difficult to chip away at it, and life can just 'happen' as we all know, so even though I don't feel physically great, I'm not in a blame spiral. We've got a meal out and a party tonight, but sensible Pea is back as of the morning. Exercise class booked in first thing. Determined to debloat. I've realised the weight I achieved last year isn't really sustainable for me, not without sacrifices to our lifestyle that I'm not prepared to give up. I'm going to be flexible though and give myself a target range to work within, and listen to my body more. I'm not going to weigh until Friday (partly as our scales broke, so I actually need to buy some more 🤦‍♀️🤣), but I'll get back to posting meals (cup-a-soup special time!) and support ❤️

Hope everyone is having a wonderful bank holiday Sunday! Catch up soon.

TeenLifeMum · 05/05/2024 12:26

@FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain where are you? We had sun yesterday but it’s back to raining again today 😭😩 so fed up of muddy dog walks

East Mids, 2 full days of glorious sunshine and about 18 degrees. Forecast for rain tomorrow but at least we got a couple of days to recharge.

TeenLifeMum · 05/05/2024 15:25

@FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain it’s 12 degrees in the south west and I’m waiting for dd to get out the shower so I can get in a hot bath after our walk in the rain. Yesterday we had sun most of the day.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 05/05/2024 15:37

No sun here. I’m so fed up with the weather. Though actually it’s just brightened up a bit.

Welcome back @ImALittlePea There’s been a lot of dipping in and out and plateau-ing so you’re in good company. Glad you’re back on it and good luck with the de-bloating!

ImALittlePea · 05/05/2024 16:21

Thanks @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo I'm looking forward to getting back on track and caught up on how everyone is!

And agree - it's probably been said to death on here already but HOW SHIT has this 'spring' been?! I've never been as affected by the weather as I have this year to date. I'm very much looking forward to complaining about it being too hot at some stage soon 😜

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 05/05/2024 22:00

@ImALittlePea i'm dipping back in after a good 18 months away from the thread. carrying under 15lbs of extra weight.
motivated on the food front just not exercise yet.
i'm looking forward to your posts (hopefully with no name change failures).

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 06/05/2024 07:18

Weekly weigh in

SW - 1st Jan - 225 lb (16 st 1 lb - BMI 34.2)
Loss this week - 1 lb
CW - 6th May - 193 lb (13 st 11 lb - BMI 29.3)

Total Loss - 32 lb (14% bodyweight)

ChickenChipsandBeans · 06/05/2024 09:12

Good morning. Starting the week feeling positive. Did a quick 20 minute full body workout on YouTube and then an hours walk. Shorts weather has started here, and I'm wearing a size medium, compared to the xxl shorts I was wearing last summer. Still need to lose around 10kg more, but I feel 100 times better than this time last year.

janeljl · 06/05/2024 18:34

I've had a really horrible cold and felt so rubbish the last week so I've given in to comfort eating again 🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm going to be brave, weigh in tomorrow morning and climb back on the calorie counting wagon. I need to be extra strict though as I keep going over by 100-200 calories on an average day.

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 06/05/2024 18:46

starting the week at 152.8
i'm pleased with this although looking forward to 149.9 and goal weight of 141.

then i need to learn to maintain.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/05/2024 19:32

I was feeling quite pleased I hadn’t gone toooooooo far off the rails at the weekend, but a Monday morning weigh in had me 5lbs up from last Wednesday!!! WTF. I hope that’s a lot of water retention… Here’s hoping it settles down by Wed.

B - boiled egg and slice of seeded toast
L - homemade tomato soup, satsuma, portion of chicken
D - chicken sausage pasta with broccoli

no snacks, Les Mills functional strength class for exercise.

that’s an amazing achievement @ChickenChipsandBeans !

good luck getting back on it @janeljl and well done on your loss @FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain

PatienceOfEngels · 07/05/2024 08:03

Checking back in after a month away from the thread.

CW 71.6kg.
SW 77kg (beginning October 2023)
GW 68kg

+0.5kg from 2 weeks ago before our holiday.
+2.7kg up on beginning of February when I managed to get below 69kg, though still -5.4kg on last October (and -7.4kg down on August 22 when I finished my MA).
First goal weight is a healthy BMI and final goal 63.5kg. Will be happy if I can get to 68kg by summer holiday. My brother is doing SW and just reached -3.5stone!

My approach (works for me if I can stick with it!)

-3 meals a day
-snacks only fruit/veg/greek yoghurt/unsalted nuts
-minimal UPF/sugar
-no coffee after breakfast
-12 hour eating window (no evening snacking)
-lots of water and herbal tea
-10k steps and get outside every day
-try to pick up my yoga again - start with 2x per week

Today:
B-boiled egg with rye toast/butter, coffee with milk
L-pumpkin pancakes with greek yoghurt/honey
D-wraps with shoarma, salad and garlic sauce
S-fruit

Going to get out in the garden after the food shop, walk this evening, maybe short yoga video this afternoon.

Trying to stay off my phone/laptop as much as possible (have put app timers on my phone) so will be back later to catch up.

ImALittlePea · 07/05/2024 10:12

Ah welcome back to you too @CurlsnSunshinetime4tea @PatienceOfEngels - I'm sure now we're all back we'll get on the right track soon!

@FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain @ChickenChipsandBeans what incredible overall results!! Well done!

Hope you're feeling better @janeljl

Yeah I bet that's salt and water bloat @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo, a couple of days of focus and plenty of water should see the back of that!

Yesterday was a mixed bag - managed my workout in the morning but indulged with the kids during the day.. so, moving on.. 😂

Today's plan:
Lunch - cup-a-soup special!
Dinner - it's a bit up in the air (I know, not the best start!) as DH is out on an activity today and I'm not sure when he'll be home/whether he's eating with us or not. Likely to be a baked potato with maybe a cheese and onion crispbread and lots of veggies.

Generally I'm committing to:
> sticking to 16:8 fasting IF, the times might need to flex when I'm on shift as I have to eat at 11, but I'll be ensuring that my eating window is no more than 8 hours
> meals only - no snacks
> I'm off the booze until DH's birthday later in a couple of weeks
> WATER
> trying to meal plan and prep as much as possible - when I'm in the zone I'm very good at this but I recognise I can't expect it to magically reappear overnight

WeirdPookah · 07/05/2024 10:44

Weekend wasn't great, went out Saturday, the weather was dismal, we did a 6 mile walk, but decided to drive home for the picnic I'd made.
Then I had a sudden onset catastrophic migraine, vomiting, aura, it was really really scary. Just glad I'd managed to get us home first.

Sunday, tried to fix the issue with the chimney, only to discover it's MUCH worse than we thought, we need scaffolding on adjacent property and chimney has to come down and be rebuilt. It's dangerous. So I guess we have to thank the bloody pigeon moving in for alerting us to the slates off, then the chimney problem. Hard to be thankful though.
Ended up eating cake I baked to thank my Dad for trying to fix the chimney, and we had a takeaway that evening.

Yesterday was better, short walk to the park since we couldn't play at the park on our walk Saturday as it was too wet and promised my daughter we would go somewhere, not as good, but she was happy.

B: yogurt, fruit, granola
L: salad, pilchards on 1 slice toast
D: veggie sausage patty, beans, scrambled eggs, 1 slice toast

Today, been for a walk, carried home tin of paint back up the hill.

B: black bean burrito
L: moth bean dal, poppadom's
D: minestrone, chicken, pesto

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 07/05/2024 14:02

Thanks @ImALittlePea i’m on the water today, and will do a bodycombat class later to sweat some of the water out. I’m wondering if I’m about to have a period, it’s been a couple of months and I’m at that age… That was always a bloat spot for me. I dropped a couple of pounds by this morning, so will see how WOW goes.

Migraine sounds scary @WeirdPookah between that and the chimney I’m not surprised you turned to cake!

today
B - porridge, raspberries and chia seeds
L - lentil soup, satsuma, chicken, quavers
D - salmon, rice and veg.

exercise - bodycombat

Hoolahoophop · 07/05/2024 14:40

I have a horrible headache, feel sick and spent the morning at a funeral. So struggling with food now.

B: Banana oat smoothie with omega seed mix.
L: Itsu pot thingy and apple
S: Because I feel dreadful and though food would help, 1 whole meal pitter toasted plain.
D: Roast chicken, jacket and coleslaw.

Only two weeks till my holiday. No way I will get to target as 3kg off but I guess the harder I try now the less the damage on holiday.

LemonDrizzle23 · 07/05/2024 15:33

Welcome back @PatienceOfEngels @ImALittlePea and @CurlsnSunshinetime4tea !

Can't believe it's WOW again tomorrow 😬 this week has disappeared....
Not sure what the scales are going to say tomorrow, but at least my knee seems to be holding up. So I will move on to upping my steps next week.

And at least we are having some sunshine!

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 07/05/2024 20:37

Just back from Aqua Aerobics, poor guy got his times wrong, thought he was going to be swimming lengths and found himself in the middle of an aqua aerobics class 😂🤣 he looked baffled for the whole 45 minutes, wonder if he'll be back next week?

Good day of eating today and the last few days so hoping to see a bit of a whoosh at some point, I've had 1lb losses the last couple of weeks and would like a really good week to keep me going.

Flowerchild547 · 07/05/2024 21:13

Sorry to hear so many people haven’t been feeling well this week! Hope you all feel better soon.

I’m keeping up with my c25k and doing a run every other day. I’m enjoying it so much and am really appreciating carving out that time for myself.

However, this week has consisted of potty training and then a poorly toddler which has led to some questionable food choices.

We shall see what the scales say tomorrow.

ChickenChipsandBeans · 08/05/2024 05:13

I have a loss of 1.1kg for today's WoW. Happy with that. Now for this week..
SW 82.2kg
Last week 73.3kg
CW 72.2kg

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 08/05/2024 06:53

Morning WOWers. 10st 5.3 lbs for me this morning, do 0.2lb up. A bit disappointing but at least the bloat sosappeared so onwards and upwards.

i have an all day hospitality thing on Saturday, which will be a challenge but will be focused on healthy eating and exercise the rest of the week. I need to get my cardio fitness back up, I’ve been focusing on strength, which is the right thing to do, but I struggled with bodycombat last night, so need to be a bit more consistent to improve that.

janeljl · 08/05/2024 06:57

9st 3.75lbs this morning which is great and means being ill and comfort eating only gained me a quarter of a pound 😂

Onwards and downwards hopefully from here 🤞

We've got a local spring festival here today so I will probably eat something horrible like chips for lunch but I don't drink and will no doubt walk about 3 x my usual steps so it should balance out.

Good luck everyone!

LemonDrizzle23 · 08/05/2024 08:12

@FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain At our gym they keep two swimming lanes open during aqua aerobics. It's always entertaining to try and swim along to the beat 😂

Well the up and down I've been going on has definitely landed on an up - which is deserved, but annoying. Calorie counting and walking is my plan for the next week. I've marked up my diary for the walks and this afternoon I'm going to plan my week in nutracheck.

Best of luck to everyone WOWing today!
