Following on from Aprils Thread

Spring definitely did not arrive in April. Today it’s lovely sunshine here (I hope it is were you are!) and hopefully more is on the way in May; so it’s time to embrace a fresh new month, a fresh new start & fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now maintaining around 8st 12lb; although I’d like to see another half stone off 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes

Good morning. Had a good weekend exercise wise and continued that this morning with a full body dumbbell Caroline Girvan workout and then an hours walk. Not as good on the food side, demolished a packet of chocolate fingers last night and was given a bottle of Baileys for Mother's Day yesterday and couldn't resist a glass last night.

PatienceOfEngels · 13/05/2024 10:27

After 2 weeks of holiday eating and lack of structure (and actually 3 months of terrible eating) I am back to work and back on it.

Weekly intentions is a good idea @LemonDrizzle23 !
-no evening snacking
-do my pf exercises
-daily walk OR yoga.
-no UPF snacks (fruit, unsalted nuts, greek yoghurt instead)

WeirdPookah · 13/05/2024 10:43

@LemonDrizzle23 it absolutely revolts me that kind of labelling, I'm sorry it's upsetting your child. You may want to drop a quiet line to his teacher. It's inappropriate, especially if it's upsetting to those involved. If you scaled that up to adulthood, you would be facing disciplinary action for harassment. Children should be taught these boundaries now, gently, and the future will be a whole lot brighter for everyone!

Anyway!

Wash out weekend, Eurovision pile of beige delicious hot snacks. I didn't drink anything though. Never been a fan of alcohol, but would sometimes have a little, but it just has zero appeal any more.

And onwards to this week. Been shopping, cleaned the ancient sandpit and refilled it, really on it's last legs, but my younger loves being outside.

My intentions are to get a damn grip. I am SO stressed at the moment with so many things going on. It's so horribly easy to turn to food, and when it causes endless headaches it's hard to motivate myself to move.

B: borlotti bean burrito
L: Jersey Royals, real butter cooked eggs, asparagus (seasonal eating at its best)
D: broccoli, 7 veg sauce, cheese (family has pasta)

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 13/05/2024 11:18

Morning all. Not the best weekend for food and exercise, but I don’t think it was toooooooo bad all in, and I felt it in my glutes this morning after a stint of weeding and gardening yesterday!

6 weeks to shake of that stray 5 or 6lbs, must focus!

PatienceOfEngels · 13/05/2024 14:08

@WeirdPookah I feel like I'm in a cycle of stress too. I feel rubbish so I eat junk which means I have less energy and motivation and feel sluggish so I eat more rubbish!

Being back at work is helping today:
-boiled egg and rye toast, coffee with milk
-fruit plate for snack
-leftover pasta salad (with various veg and bacon...should have added an egg)
-greek yoghurt with honey and banana
-spaghetti bolognese for dinner tonight
-lots of water

I just have to do some some movement this evening and stay out of the fridge/cupboard. Then tomorrow will be a test as well (at home alone while kids are at school...1pm is the danger time so perhaps I should set an alarm for some yoga or to call my sister or something).

Baking hot here today. Climate control at school is not working 100% and I bet it's even hotter at home. 24 degrees atm and 27 tomorrow but may get some rain/thunder soon. Time to get the fans out of winter storage. I hate this sudden switch in temperature.

Does anyone else hate summer or is it just me?!

@TheRealHousewife wow well plated.
certainly inspiring.
i should up my fresh veggies and salad game.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 13/05/2024 18:07

That looks lovely @TheRealHousewife I totally missed the lights on Friday night ☹️

todays efforts:

b - boiled egg, seeded toast, tea
l - home made lentil soup, apple
s - we’re having a roasted veg, halloumi, baby potatoes dish

exercise - currently hot and sweaty after a functional strength Les mills class

snacks - none yet, but likely to have a biscuit or slice of toast later tonight and a piece of fruit after dinner.

ImALittlePea · 13/05/2024 20:06

Evening! So far since sneaking back onto the thread I've not really got far with getting my head back in the game. I'm getting new scales this week so will start weighing again on Friday.

I'm sure I'm not the only one, but after a miserable spring I was definitely influenced by the sunshine over the weekend when it came to fold and drink choices. Thoroughly enjoyable, though!

Trying a fresh start again today. Did an exercise class first thing, followed by Cajun chicken pasta before work (I always need a carby lunch on Monday!) My shift was cancelled tonight, I was hankering for chippy tea on the beach but instead we had minted lamb kofta, pitta, fries and a big salad all cooked at home. I have a bottle of wine in the fridge but plan to save it for the weekend. Might have a couple of sweets now to stave the cravings for something 'naughty'.

When I popped to the shop this evening I picked up a new pair of jeans without trying on. I went for the 10, feeling it was a bit ambitious as I'm definitely feeling a bit tight in my 10s these days, but I was VERY pleasantly surprised when I tried them on at home - they fit pretty comfortably! I have a slight bulge over the top so my goal is to get rid of that.

I have a mini holiday in a month so that should hopefully help me refocus. There is the half term in between but I managed to surprise myself in the Easter holiday by having a fully on plan week in the second week (after too much birthday indulgence in week one 😜), proving to myself I can navigate the holidays with a sensible head.

Love to all!

PatienceOfEngels · 14/05/2024 07:14

Yesterday evening didn't quite go to plan. No exercise and did snack (only a few cream crackers with cheese but still...). I am finding it so difficult to crack evening eating habit. I'm 100% not hungry. It's driven by boredom and anxiety.

But on the plus side: drank lots of water and had plenty of fruit and veg.

Today is my danger day as I'm at home alone once kids are at school and that's when I tend to binge.

Plan:
B- boiled egg and rye toast, coffee
S-Fruit plate
L-Make saag aloo (have lots of spinach to be used, will make double for tomorrow as well)
D- crispy chicken, homemade paprika wedges and cucumber salad.

Take a short walk after school drop off followed by pf exercises. Do a 15 minute yoga video this morning to stretch. Walk this evening after dinner with DC2. Pf exercises again this evening.

Lots of water. Herbal tea when ids are in bed to stave off snacking.

I have a huge to do list and getting some of it ticked off will really help my anxiety and stop me stress eating.

@ImALittlePea great NSW with the jeans!
@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo I missed the lights as well. Did pop out before bed on Saturday but nothing with my camera on night vision. Am in a built up area though so not surprised!
@CurlsnSunshinetime4tea I want curry now!

LemonDrizzle23 · 14/05/2024 07:26

@PatienceOfEngels I definitely think a weekly plan helps me. I'm sorry you're in a period of stress. Re the evening, I have found that standing / wandering around instead of sitting (even if I'm still watching tv), breaks my "bum on sofa, hand to mouth" habit a bit.

@WeirdPookah if it carries on I will have a quiet word. His teacher is lovely and I'm sure would want to help. He has lots of girl friends and I don't want him to start to feel bad or weird about it!

@TheRealHousewife thank you! I missed the lights sadly - somehow I completely missed that it was even happening! Tried the second night, but nothing had shown itself by 10.30pm, so I gave up and went to bed...

ImALittlePea · 14/05/2024 09:35

Thank you @PatienceOfEngels I hope you manage to get through some of the to-do list today.

I feel you @LemonDrizzle23 I've been so surprised by some of the drama that comes out of primary school! We've had a period of my DS being called stupid, puny, fat (of which is he none of these things) to the extent he wasn't wanting to go in. Things are better for now, but we've got a meeting coming up to discuss it further.

@TheRealHousewife I had no idea the lights were happening! I saw some beautiful pictures of it locally but alas, I was in bed.

Last night I had a couple of chocs and a bottle of sparkling water, instead of the wine 👌

Plan for today:
Lunch - chicken salad with some light Caesar dressing, I've also got some giant cous cous with feta that I picked up at Sainsbury's yesterday to add to it
Dinner - I think spaghetti Bolognese with a big salad (DH will have garlic bread)

DD slept terribly last night so I'm hoping I can stick to my no snacking resolve 🙏

Raining again here. What is up with the weather this year?!

Hoolahoophop · 14/05/2024 09:50

Urgh, soaked after the half hour walk into work. Should have driven!

I had an accidental good day yesterday. Had planned to skip breakfast as part of 5:2 but then missed lunch as I was in meetings. So just had a boiled egg snack around 3.30pm to keep me going, then chicken, jacket and veg for dinner. Half a Cadbury cream egg for snack (shared with DH)

Today I have been for a run (4k) before breakfast, will walk a ton with the school run, walking to work and then clubs and will try to fit in a 10 minute core pilates tonight.

So far.
B: Two eggs scrambled (without fat) on 1 slice of unbuttered whole meal toast.
L: Bit of left over tomato pasta with lots of salad and veg sticks.
D: Veggie chilli with basmati rice and more veg.
S: Probably another half a cream egg because they need to get out the house.

I was 56.4kg this morning and REALLY hoping to be 55.9 by tomorrows WOW. if I can keep a 55 on the scales until my holiday I will be happy. Can then go again to get down to the 52s when I get back (and obviously try to loose all the holiday weight gain!)

WeirdPookah · 14/05/2024 10:02

I have to say I am superbly disappointed to not have seen the lights, the amount of time between my husband and myself spent online, we saw nothing about it beforehand.

Done a HIIT from Joe Wicks this morning since can't go out, can't batch cook the curry I was going to, because of the rain meaning all the Gi's have to be dried inside and they can't smell of curry!!
Might see if I can muster the enthusiasm to start filling panel pin nail holes on the bannisters.

B: borlotti bean burrito
L: tahini sriracha lentils with leeks and cauliflower
D: veggie burger on sandwich thin, salad

Allthegoodnamestakken · 14/05/2024 10:44

Hi All,
Trundling along although not expecting a loss tomorrow as had quite an indulgent weekend. Goal today is to get outside for a dog walk or some weights in the garden this evening as the sun is shining!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 14/05/2024 13:15

A short spell of sunny weather definitely derails healthy eating and exercise here @ImALittlePea - my exercise and alcohol free free Friday night plans were replace with beer and bbq. Which made me sleepy, so went to bed early and missed the lights!

todays menu

B - boiled egg and seeded toast (should have been porridge but not enough milk)
L - tomato & lentil soup, satsuma, falafel & humous, snack size pack of quavers
D - not sure, think it’s some kind of chow mein dish

exercise - hoping to have the energy to do a body combat class later , but I’m feeling exhausted today for some reason.

Flowerchild547 · 15/05/2024 06:42

Really pleased with today’s weigh. 3lbs down from last week!

Good luck everyone for their weigh in’s.

SW: 17st 10
CW: 15st 10
GW: 10st 10
Total Loss: 28lb

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 15/05/2024 06:46

Well done @Flowerchild547 that’s a great result.

i was up a pound this week ☹️. Very appointed by that, I didn’t think I was that much off the rails at the weekend.

onwards an upwards though 6 weeks until my holiday so here’s hoping the pressure of a deadline and threat of a swimsuit keeps me focused.

good luck to everyone weighing in today!

LemonDrizzle23 · 15/05/2024 07:15

@ImALittlePea that sounds very sad for your little boy. Children can be grotty little creatures can't they! I hope you get to the bottom of it. Looking forward to the teenage years... 😬

Decent WOW for me. After a month heading slowly up, I've finally got a grip on exercise and diet again. Loss of 0.7kg this week. Following my intentions consistently has worked.

SW: 97.5
CW: 92.2
10%: 88

Wishing everyone a good WOW.

PatienceOfEngels · 15/05/2024 08:15

wow up 0.3kg which is a miracle (yesterday was 1kg up!)

Struggling with stress and feel it in my body.

Today:
-boiled egg, rye toast, coffee
-fruit
-saag aloo
-greek yoghurt and honey
-soup and bread

Hoolahoophop · 15/05/2024 08:53

A little disappointed.

SW: 58.7kg (Jan)
CW: 56.5kg (down 0.4kg)
GW: 52kg
Mini goal for 22nd May: 55kg

No way I will loose 1.5kg in a week. I was hoping to be under 56kg today as I have been pretty good this week and upped the exercise.

It's so sloooowww. I've lost 2.2kg so far this YEAR.

But I shall keep plodding on.

B: Fast
L: Quarter of an m&s broccoli and tomato quiche and some undressed salad.
D: 2 sausages left over from a BBQ at the weekend chopped up in a basic tomato Sause with pasta and maybe more salad.
S: Bit of fruit and half a cream egg tonight with DH.

Total cals should be around 1300

I did a Pilates core control this morning and will walk around 5k in total on the commute and school run.

I'm generally sticking to between 1000-1500 calories per day and my Garmin suggests that my deficit has averaged over 500 a day this week. I've walked over 12k steps per day, run twice in the week. But still lose just 0.4kg. It feels like hard work.

Congratulations for those its working for. Commiserations for those working hard and not seeing results. It will happen, we just have to stick with it.

NothingTraLaLa · 15/05/2024 08:58

Weighing in at about half a pound heavier than I did yesterday, for no apparent reason, meaning that I am up on last week’s figure. Kind of hoping that this will mean a bigger loss next week, but as I’ve been stuck on a plateau for the last 6 weeks there is no guarantee.

SW 128 lbs
CW 117.8 lbs
TW 112 lbs

Rewis · 15/05/2024 10:01

SW: 97kg
Last week: ?
CW: 95.6kg
GW I: 90kg

WeirdPookah · 15/05/2024 12:26

Been for a walk this morning even though didn't really feel like it, headachey and just down I guess.

I'm going to weigh Friday as usual, though not hopeful after the weekend (again). It really is my downfall. I find it pretty easy to stay on plan during the week and end up going over at the weekends.

B: black bean burrito
L: vegetarian chili, small baked potato, ricotta
D: refried beans quesadilla and salad (need something extra for family)
