Following on from Aprils Thread

Spring definitely did not arrive in April. Today it’s lovely sunshine here (I hope it is were you are!) and hopefully more is on the way in May; so it’s time to embrace a fresh new month, a fresh new start & fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now maintaining around 8st 12lb; although I’d like to see another half stone off 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes

Good luck to everyone weighing in.

Managed to get my steps in yesterday with a post-dinner walk with DC2, no evening eating, and 95% on track.

Today:
B-boiled egg and rye toast with coffee, pear
L- soup out the freezer (think it's carrot and lentil).
D- maybe pasta bake with ham, mushrooms, peppers
S-blueberries, pears

Going to get outside and work in the garden. Already got some steps in dropping DC at school and will get some more in through the day, then a walk this evening.

Hoolahoophop · 08/05/2024 09:02

Hope everyone has a good weigh in today. Mine, not so good.

SW: 58.2Kg
CW: 56.9 kg (up 0.6kg on last week) BMI now 25.3
GW: 52 Kg

Today
B - orange and black coffee
L - tuna pate on whole meal pitta
D - something with yesterdays left over chicken, not sure what yet.
S - last of the salted caramel Lindt bunny I think.

It was easier when I was father from goal weight that's for sure. Also been really busy and DH had COVID and was rough with it so have been overeating in an attempt to get more energy and not finding time to exercise, onwards and upwards.

HlnHny · 08/05/2024 09:47

Joining a week late but better late than never and I've put a diary reminder in. I only started last week, I'm using lions prep meals twice a day, which are about 500 cals. Aiming for no snacks and then fruit and kefir for breakfast.
My weakness if finishing the food the children don't eat and snacking because I find my work very boring and I work from home.

SW: 73kg
CW: 73kg

68kg would get me back into healthy bmi, ultimately I'd like to get to mid 50s kg.

GameOfJones · 08/05/2024 10:20

Mornings all WoWers.

Unfortunately I've stayed the same this week. I expected it really after the bank holiday weekend where there was a lot of food related socialising going on! I have got straight back on it though and am determined to get out of the 14s soon.

SW: 15st 1lb
CW: 14st 3lbs
GW: mini goal to get into the 13s by the end of May.

Yesterday's food:

B - yoghurt, nuts, blueberries plus a latte with skimmed milk
L - two sliced apples with crunchy peanut butter for dipping
D - black bean fajitas with peppers and onions
S - rum and diet coke

Today's plan:

B - yoghurt, nuts, peach plus a latte with skimmed milk
L - hummus on toast and a banana
D - asparagus risotto

WeirdPookah · 08/05/2024 12:37

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo thank you.

Been for a walk today, feeling pretty down about everything going on and struggling.

B: black bean burrito
L: minestrone, pesto
D: mango almond korma, cauliflower
strawberries for snack

Villagetoraiseachild · 08/05/2024 12:53

Thank you op for the thread.
You are my people!
Am on day 12 of raising my game, losing some pounds for summer.
Will read the whole thread later for tips and inspo.

Allthegoodnamestakken · 08/05/2024 13:09

Hello All,

Remembered to weigh this morning
SW-78kg
CW-76.5
GW-72kg

1/2 a Kg down which is great for my first week back on the wagon, meals not the best today but not awful either
Lunch - Cheese and Ham sandwich
Dinner - Chicken Casserole
Snack - Protein bar before crossfit

VallesMarineris · 08/05/2024 13:11

Getting back on track with intermittent fasting. It's a lot easier with getting out to the garden in the evening instead of slumping in front of a screen. Yesterday, for the first time in ages, I didn't eat after 7pm, and only drank black tea. I weighed this morning and am down one pound from last week.

Total lost = 1 lb
Still to lose = 19 lbs.
Target loss 20 lbs

talkingdeadscot · 08/05/2024 13:48

SW - 93kg
GW - 55kg
CW - 65.5kg

I've been 66kg or thereabouts since the beginning of March so it's nice to see a little movement in the right direction.

I moved to slimming world online after the first 23kg and my weight loss has been extremely slow since then. Generally my meals are;

Vegetable omelette/poached egg and veg for breakfast
Plain yoghurt and fruit for lunch sometimes with nuts/seeds
Home made vegetable/lentil soup and some sort of meat/fish for dinner
Milk in tea. If I'm hungry I have a piece of fruit.
If I don't have cheese for breakfast I have oat milk cocoa in the evening
My 'treat' is 2 hi-fi bars

I think I'm probably going to have to always eat this way unless I can find a way to burn more calories. I'd still rather do that than be fat again though.

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 08/05/2024 16:45

weigh in at 152.
slow and steady.

the food noise is manageable thanks to good weather.
although exercise is still lacking but the garden is off to a good start which is healthy in lots of other ways.

PatienceOfEngels · 09/05/2024 08:10

Sorry to hear you're struggling @WeirdPookah

We're just back from holiday and I have a million things to do (house, garden, admin, work) before going back to work next week. I can feel all the stress I'm holding in my body but struggle to make the changes to let go of it. Trying to be grateful for what I have, get outside, keep chipping away at all my tasks, and not feel guilty for taking the time to relax (trying being the operative word!).

Didn't quite manage my steps yesterday but did manage to get outside, short walk with DC before bedtime, bit of marking.

Ban holiday here in my country. Going to get outside to do one of my garden jobs, go for a walk, do a little bit of marking, tick off an admin task (pay for our summer holiday!), get washing up to date, and finish unpacking holiday stuff.

B - boiled egg and rye toast, coffee
L - ? Either falafel wraps with salad and garlic sauce or a BLT
D -? Maybe salmon with potatoes and carrot and broccoli
S - fruit (have ripe pears, blueberries, apples, bananas)

Flowerchild547 · 09/05/2024 18:57

Missed yesterday but I’m here today!

Hope everyone’s weigh in went okay.
I’m disappointed but unsurprised with a lb gain this week. I haven’t stuck to my plan over the week, not drank enough water or eaten enough fibre and veggies etc.

However, I am still optimistic. I have made really good progress with my exercise. I have completed week 2 of c25k and have been hitting my step goals. My gym leggings don’t stay up when I run anymore so I need to size down which I am taking as a win for this week.

SW: 17st 10
CW: 15st 13
GW: 10st 10
Total Loss: 25lb

WeirdPookah · 09/05/2024 19:39

@PatienceOfEngels thank you 🌸

Food has been ok today, only a short walk at school pick up time, spent an hour and a half on high anxiety, hoping the Pharmacist I had an "appointment" with between 12.50 and 2.50 would call before I had to leave for school, and despite being told I was near the top of the list, he only called just before I needed to leave. Was told if I missed the call it would go down as a missed appointment on my records!!! WTF is the point of a 2 hour window like that, I even told them I had go to school. Anyway, got my prescription for 6, yes only 6, tablets for when I get migraines.

B: kidney bean burrito
L: vegetarian chili, baked potato, cheese
D: roast vegetables, salmon

Also roasted chicken for my cat whilst the oven was on, and some more vegetables to have cold tomorrow.

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 09/05/2024 21:29

@WeirdPookah that sounds horrible, it's bad here in canada as well or at least in the province i live in.

i'm reporting back on my protein shake situation. the salted caramel flavor is not for me...but the vanilla is significantly better!
the big blender manages the ice efficiently and it pours out fine, not a lot of waste.

If you just use 100-150 ml water and give it a really good whisk you end up with a mousse consistency and texture instead of a drinkable shake, so more like a dessert. Or add a little more water and heat it in the microwave for hot chocolate.

I've seen people use vanilla shake mix made with less water as a sub for custard over sliced banana or with a dollop of jam.

I tried the New You Plan a couple of years ago and there were loads of modifications people made to the meal replacement shakes and packets to change them up a bit and make them more like real food.

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 09/05/2024 22:34

@FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain this is the product i picked up.
i've contacted them to return the salted caramel (they claim a 60 day guarentee)
and yes i will need to continue experimenting.
good news the vanilla flavor is good the and texture is smooth.
and at 170 calories i'm using it as a lunch replacement.

LemonDrizzle23 · 10/05/2024 07:16

@CurlsnSunshinetime4tea I've seen people adding it to porridge and making pancakes with it etc as well. Basically using it as a flour substitute or thickener. Don't know how well it works in real life though!

After a bad WOW, I seem to have had a bit of a whoosh. So I'm feeling slightly more motivated now.
Nutracheck and walking.

Repeat after me...

Hope everyone else has been enjoying the glorious sunshine!

Hoolahoophop · 10/05/2024 07:58

@Flowerchild547 when I started running my diet went a bit wonky, you need to adjust to the extra energy used I think.

Good to hear your are enjoying C25K I loved it. I did it about 4 years ago now and run on and off when time permits between 3-7k runs and its easier to get back into it once you have completed the program even if you stop for a bit.

I was 56.5k today which was 0.4 down on Wednesday and made me happy!

WeirdPookah · 10/05/2024 10:42

@CurlsnSunshinetime4tea if you like iced coffee, try adding some instant coffee to the ones that are too sweet, we got a bag of chocolate free with our order and it's so sickly, so I add coffee and make a mocha and it makes it better.

rainbow616 · 10/05/2024 10:55

Happy Friday everyone. After a few weeks of plateauing, I've lost a pound this week. I'm going away next Friday so would love to lose a couple more pounds next week! Hope everyone has a lovely weekend 😊 xx

NothingTraLaLa · 10/05/2024 15:39

Weighing in today because I forgot on Wednesday. A slight gain of about half a pound which is understandable after the bank holiday weekend. It wasn’t particularly excessive but pizza and wine was involved. I’m not sure that this weekend is going to be much better - Eurovision night tends to mean baklava and Turkish delight in our house - but I will have to reel it in for my other meals.

SW 128 lbs
CW 117.2 lbs
TW 112 lbs

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 10/05/2024 19:59

Today I have been in a mission, got a shed delivered yesterday and itching to get it built so I've been building it while on conference calls for work and on my lunch and after work. Got the bulk of it done, just need to put the roof panels in, window and door fittings which should only take an hour or so tomorrow then I can start sorted the assorted crap into it!

Absolutely bloody knackered though and have aches in places I didn't know I had muscles. Guess I should have paid attention to the little picture that said it was a 2 man job rather than a 1 stubborn woman job 😂

LemonDrizzle23 · 11/05/2024 08:42

Happy weekend everyone! What are people's plans?

We have a gym session booked in this afternoon - assuming kids class goes ahead.

Out for dinner tomorrow night, but otherwise have some IF and sensible meals planned for the weekend.

Also going to concentrate on keeping my steps up.

Flowerchild547 · 11/05/2024 20:00

@Hoolahoophop glad you enjoyed it! Everyone has good things to say about it!
I did w3d1 which I was dreading but it was fine, I think I just need to be confident that I can do it. A real mind over matter thing.
My goal is to be able to do a park run by the end of it without being embarrassed 🤣

Much better week so far however we are hosting a bbq rn but hoping it will all even itself out!

Hope everyone is enjoying the weather 🌞

LemonDrizzle23 · 13/05/2024 09:47

Happy Monday everyone!

Well my week started with an upset child visiting me several times around 3am, as some of the girls at school have said that X is his girlfriend now, but he doesn't want X to be his girlfriend. They are all 6 yrs old 🤦🏼‍♀️ I hate friendships between girls and boys being labelled like this so young!

As a result I'm knackered and was desperate for some McDonald's hash browns this morning. I have avoided them however! Have had a caffeine hit and will have some eggs in a bit.

Setting out my intentions this week:

  • IF Monday to Friday
  • walking walking walking!
  • pre loading meals on nutracheck as far ahead as seems sensible
  • No evening snacking.

What are everyone else's good intentions this week?
