Following on from Aprils Thread

Spring definitely did not arrive in April. Today it’s lovely sunshine here (I hope it is were you are!) and hopefully more is on the way in May; so it’s time to embrace a fresh new month, a fresh new start & fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now maintaining around 8st 12lb; although I’d like to see another half stone off 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes

I have had a weekend on plan!!
It is so often my downfall, perhaps planning those two fun new recipes was a help.

Not been out today, but food on plan

B: homemade banana waffles, greek yogurt, berries, cashew butter
L: poke bowl (family had noodles in theirs)
D: broccoli, vegetable sauce, cheese (family had pasta)

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 19/05/2024 19:50

Well done @WeirdPookah and good work on the gym tights @LemonDrizzle23

we’re had a rare weekend when it was absolutely scorching on the patio and we were home to enjoy it so I definitely will have gone over on the calories. But it’s been a lovely chilled time, and we haven’t gone as overboard as we would have done in the past. So I’ll take that as a win! I might not feel the same come WOW though… 😂

WeirdPookah · 20/05/2024 10:02

Been shopping this morning, going to go out for a short walk in a bit, as got two reduced price chickens cooking in the oven for the cat!

B: kidney bean burrito
L: Jersey Royals, asparagus, eggs fried in butter
D: mango almond korma, chicken, cauliflower

Thank you @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo weekends really are so much harder for me.

PatienceOfEngels · 20/05/2024 16:25

Bank holiday here.

B - boiled egg and rye toast, coffee
L- banana pancakes with strawberries, blueberries and caramel syrup
D- chicken tandoori, chickpeas, rice, broccoli, natural yoghurt
S-melon, rice cake with cheese and marmite

4km walk in the fens.

LemonDrizzle23 · 20/05/2024 17:17

Thank you @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo - it was a pleasant surprise!

Had a very nice, but sedentary morning in a cafe / soft play with a friend today, so am behind on steps. But as it's such a lovely evening, I think I might attempt to go out for a walk instead of just collapsing on the sofa after dinner.

DH's birthday this weekend, and I have found the most amazing looking cheesecake recipe to make him. Some restraint over the weekend may be needed 😂

WeirdPookah · 21/05/2024 10:57

Been for a long walk this morning, I really hate the heat though, summer and I do not get on. I get sunlight allergy rashes which take weeks to heal if I don't put suncream on, but I get all freaked out at suncream on my skin, sensory issues thanks to being autistic.

I was so hungry last night when I got back with my children after karate, driving home thinking of toast and butter, got them to bed and I had a small apple and a cup of tea instead. I'm pretty pleased with that knowing my thinking pattern that "I could have go away with it" as my husband was at the second class and I was alone.

Today:
B: kidney bean burrito
L: tahini sriracha lentils with leek and cabbage
D: veggie burger on sandwich thin, salad

Hoolahoophop · 21/05/2024 13:41

Well done on that little win @WeirdPookah

I had a bad day yesterday. DH had bought me a premade Bircher thing to be nice for breakfast. I ran out of time for lunch so had an Itsu noodle cup. Had planned a homemade curry and rice from the freezer for dinner but ran out of time for that and bought a quick microwave meal. So basically had processed ready meals for every single meal.

I felt awful this morning and struggled through my run. But today is better.

4k Run
B: Two eggs scrambled on 1 slice whole meal bread
2k Walk
L: Homemade chicken and spinach risotto
2k Walk
D: Will be fish, new potato's and purple broccoli

Am keeping my fingers very, very tightly crossed that tomorrow I am 55.something on the scales.

ImALittlePea · 21/05/2024 21:31

Hi all! Need to catch up with you all but update on my week to date.

Started the week with my dance class and then a double shift at work - very busy so lots of steps. For lunch I had leftover chicken pasta salad, with loads of veggies and chicken, followed by some greek yoghurt. Dinner was a small baker, beans, cheese and some veggie fingers. Not too bad.

Today, had another very busy shift at work, legs are aching tonight! Lunch was a chicken salad wrap, small bag of crisps, and greek yoghurt. Had a team meeting and avoided the delicious looking caramel cake! DH and the kids had chippy tea but I said no, my alternative of shop pizza wasn't the healthiest but the veggie option wasn't terrible on the calorie front, I had a salad and small handful of chips with it, but tbh I'm just feeling good for not having a takeaway. I've vowed off them until the end of June, so.....

Tomorrow I'll be having the rest of tonight's pizza for lunch, and probably a baker for dinner before my evening shift. I've got my DS's first ADHD appointment since he was diagnosed in March, will eat before I go in case it's tricky. Positively manifesting that it will be fine though ☺️

I've also just heard that I've got an interview next week! I went shopping 'for the kids' on Friday but ended up buying myself a few bits instead. I was expecting to be in the 12s as felt super bloated but the 10s fit - just! Got some lovely wide legged printed trousers that I think would be perfect for the interview, so I'm chuffed with that.

Also, scales still haven't materialised - whoops!

Sending happy vibes to you all. Drink an extra glass of water before bed if it won't wake you up to pee! 😁

LemonDrizzle23 · 22/05/2024 07:32

Morning, and wishing everyone a good WOW!

0.4kg loss here this week, making the stats:

SW: 97.5
CW: 91.8
10%: 88

Having spent a good 6-8 weeks bouncing between 92.5-93, it's nice to see a new number on the table.

Heading into DHs birthday weekend followed by half term - am determined not to undo the good work!

I hope the scale gods are smiling on you all.

LemonDrizzle23 · 22/05/2024 07:34

Best of luck for your son's meeting and your interview @ImALittlePea !

Hoolahoophop · 22/05/2024 08:59

Congrats on the loss Lemondrizzle

My last WOW before holiday

SW: 58.9kg
CW: 56.0kg (same as last week)
TW: 52kg

Maintaining is good, wish I could have got into the 55s for holiday though, that was the aim, but packing stress may have diverted me!

Todays plan
Walking and Packing
B: Banana porridge (but it was revolting so I threw it away)
L: Salad and a couple of table spoons of ham orzo
D: Spaghetti bolognaise or Chill and rice with Lots of veg sticks and humus.

ImALittlePea · 22/05/2024 09:19

Thanks @LemonDrizzle23 and well done on your WoW!

Congrats on maintaining @Hoolahoophop and have a great holiday!

talkingdeadscot · 22/05/2024 11:08

Morning all

WOW and I may have lost 0.8kg. I say 'may' because I've been bouncing around the same 66kg for weeks now and it might be back next week but I'm taking it for now. I went right back to basics with calorie counting and signed up with Nutracheck which I think is helping.

SW - 93kg
GW - 55kg
CW - 65.2kg

The sun's given up here in Edinburgh, was lovely while it lasted though. Keep plodding on everyone, you know it'll be worth it in the end.

WeirdPookah · 22/05/2024 11:21

Raining here too, did some cleaning. No idea how, but our housecat, who never goes outside, has fleas and they are bloody everywhere. So angry and disgusted.

B: black bean burrito
L: asian style slaw, GOSH not-fish thai bake
D: lentil bolognaise, broccoli, cheese (family has pasta)

Flowerchild547 · 23/05/2024 10:29

Well done everyone.

Didn’t have time to weigh yesterday so did it this morning. It’s been a tough week work wise but I’ve tried my best to keep on track.
I’m on week 4 of couch to 5k and really enjoying it. I’ve never been an exerciser but I’m starting to realise why people enjoy it!!

SW: 17st 10
CW: 15st 9
GW: 10st 10
Total Loss: 29lb

WeirdPookah · 23/05/2024 10:41

Pouring with 40+mph winds here, so done a Joe Wicks work out instead.

B: black bean burrito
L: parsnip, cannellini bean, courgette soup
D: roast vegetables, quorn ham roast

PatienceOfEngels · 23/05/2024 19:48

Managed to get out for a walk after dinner tonight for the first time since I went back to work a week and a half ago! Was on the phone ranting to my sister about work so not exactly relaxing but it is a beautiful evening after a few days of thunderstorms the last week. Tipped me over 10k steps.

Started evening eating at the weekend and then I find myself struggling to stop! I feel so much better if I only have water/herbal tea after dinner so why is it so hard to stick to?

Was reading an article about trying to do no-UPF for a week. I could cope with baking my own bread and most of my my meals but was puzzling about sandwich fillings for DC2 who won't eat cheese and lives on sweet stuff lie nutella/peanut butter/jam (I am not making my own jam!). I think he's have to make do with honey!

B- boiled egg and rye toast, butter, coffee with milk
S- pineapple, bit of cream cake
L - special buffet lunch at school so a random plate full of chicken salad, pasta, homemade coleslaw, cheesecake, bruschetta, cheese and salad roll.
S-greek yoghurt and honey
D- fornello (rice, veg, eggs, chorizo and chicken)

rainbow616 · 24/05/2024 07:51

So, had a bad couple of weeks! It was my birthday last weekend, so me and my husband went away and ate and drank lots! Then this week my kids have had a sickness bug so not done much exercise! But, I'm happy because I'm back to where I started weight wise! I've set myself goals up to mid August when we see Taylor swift in London so, here goes!!

SW 13st 5.4
CW 12st 9.4
GW 11st 7

Hope everyone has a great weekend Smile

WeirdPookah · 24/05/2024 10:43

@PatienceOfEngels nothing wrong with a 100% nuts spread, even places like Lidl have 100% peanut butter now, easy to find.

I'm so fed up with trying sometimes. I did "so well" this past week, even staying on track over the weekend and I lost less than a pound. I'm still a pound higher than I was when I went on holiday in April, at this rate I won't have lost anything before we go away again and I put a bunch back on.

LemonDrizzle23 · 24/05/2024 14:42

Sorry it's feeling slow @WeirdPookah . Any loss is good, but it can feel painful!

Well it's nearly the weekend, and half term starts again. Didn't we just have one of those???

I've just finished making DH's birthday cake. I've gone for an absolutely over the top cheesecake, which he will love, but I won't be tempted by, as that much dairy is not going to agree with me 😬 So I'm saving myself a few thousand calories over the next few days!

Have a few meals out planned, so I'm going to try and stick to relatively healthy options, and keep up my steps. Gym sessions booked in on Sunday and Monday.

Other than that, it's just surviving half term. Praying for some ☀️

PatienceOfEngels · 25/05/2024 06:06

I agree @WeirdPookah it's so slow! I am still trying to get back to my pre-holiday (up and down like a yoyo atm) and then will still have 2 more kg to get to Feb weight and crack on for a healthy BMI. It always goes so fast in the beginning but once I slip back into bad habits it's difficult to break them. I end up having some kind of treat int he weekend which then turns into a treat 2 days running, 3 days running and then spend 4 days undoing it.

It's so dull! I think need more purposeful pursuits and structured relaxation in my life to stop me thinking about food and reaching for it when I'm tired/stressed/bored actually.

PatienceOfEngels · 25/05/2024 06:12

Enjoy half term those of you in the UK (or is it just England and Wales?). We have a different holiday schedules here (western European country) so no Easter (have the Monday only, some years Good Friday but not an official bank holiday here) and then 2 weeks at the end of April/beginning of May and then straight through to the 6 weeks summer break (with a few bank holidays in either May or June). I do break up a lot earlier than England though and back at school in August most years (Scotland do that too right?). Here they split the country into sections and rotate when you start and finish summer holidays so it can differ from year to year by up to 2 weeks. You still get the same amount of holiday weeks but some school years are shorter than others in terms of teaching weeks.

Wet and rainy here. Might head out with the kids to a school event as I have a rare weekend working day tomorrow.

B -egg and rye toast, butter, coffee
L - whatever's on offer at event
D - maybe fish fingers, broccoli and home made wedges

maybein2022 · 26/05/2024 14:29

Hi all,
I haven’t posted for ages and ages but I remembered these threads massively helped me and made me take accountability so I am back.

Hope everyone is well. You might remember I was doing minimal UPF and lots of whole foods, home baking etc- I am doing well. I had a blip a few weeks ago and went back to old habits for a couple of weeks (although still have managed not to drink any Diet Coke this year!) and felt AWFUL. My stomach was horrendous, I woke up in the night with awful reflux/feeling sick and I just felt terrible. It’s amazing (not in a good way) what it did to me but made me more determined than ever!

I do have a few events and holidays coming up which I know I’ll have a few things and probably put on a bit of weight etc, but I am not randomly going back to old habits and eating crap like I did a few weeks ago- honestly I don’t know why I did it and I have never felt so rubbish.

I’m coming up for a total of 5 stone weight loss in total now. Hope everyone is doing okay.

EndlessGuineaPigCycle · 26/05/2024 19:25

Hi all, I haven't posted in ages and haven't really managed to stick to plan for more than a few days at a time over the past few months. This thread really helped me lose a few pounds near the start of the year so I'm back in the hope that it might help me get back on track. I've just been finding it so hard to stay motivated. I start every day with good intentions and then it almost always ends up falling apart. Usually due to stress, tiredness, lack of time, any emotion really! I am at a loss as to how to break this cycle!

I've got a few days off over half term so am hoping to spend some of it on self care, exercise, trying new meals etc..

Any helpful tips for helping me get 'in the zone' would be much appreciated! Tia

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 26/05/2024 23:02

Hello! I’ve slipped a bit over the last week, being away for work and other stuff. Just over 4 weeks till summer hols so need to focus!
