Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

The pound I gained last week has gone again! And I've been swimming this morning. It's so hard when it's cold outside but once I get in the pool and get going I feel so much better.

Glad to see you back on track @AutisticLegoLover and well done for yesterday standing your ground.

Some good recipes here, I'm not that great at baking either, I can just about manage cookies with the kids!

Ninjachicken · 27/01/2023 11:43

Hi all
i love a podcast. does anyone have any good recommendations?
still keeping on track here. Though I did eat chicken tikka masala last night with no rice.
been invited for Sunday lunch at the weekend so need to try and adjust my other days to compensate
nice to hear all the positivity from everyone going into the weekend
is sushi a good choice or not? I guess the salt content is not great
I am at 12500 steps and hopefully will hit 15000 before tonight
happy Friday everyone!

SingaporeSlinky · 27/01/2023 13:06

Had a lovely long walk with a friend again today, going to try and make it a weekly thing. Walked 8 miles, so I’ve gone over 20,000 steps so far, and had a nice natter.

So that’s 5 decent days of exercise this week, very happy with that.

Have a great weekend everyone. Try not to let it undo the 5 weekdays.

Ninjachicken · 27/01/2023 13:47

@SingaporeSlinky that’s great! 20000 steps! I Will post my end total later today. Don’t think I will get to that though!
going for fourth Friday in a row with no alcohol 😁

Cloudberries123 · 27/01/2023 16:46

Well done Ninja that's a great NSV in itself. Alcohol can become so habitual without us noticing.

Me today -

Breakfast - 2 egg cups, coffee, croissant

Work snacks - apple, satsuma, water

Lunch - chicken pasta, then it all started to go downhill... Tea, brownie and piece of cake from nursery just because the baby was finally napping and I am sooo tired! Then 4 date balls, water,.... Trying to stave off a full cupboard raid.

Dinner - more chicken pasta, it's just one of those days 😅

Movement has been good though, over 10k steps and a pair of leggings that used to cut into my tummy now don't cut in as much.

Thank God its Friday!

greenspaces4peace · 27/01/2023 18:35

my salty feast weight is gradually decreasing 148.8 this am. hoping for under 148.5 by sunday. which was last weeks lowest weigh in.
grandparent stress happening over here. my two uk grandkids school situation is driving me and dh near insane.
so drama by distance aside all is well with fitness walking, water, multivits and fiber. CC most meals, IF routine going well.

AutisticLegoLover · 27/01/2023 20:33

25,000 steps for me today but I don't class it as much of an achievement anymore because it's just me going about my daily routine but for those who don't routinely walk much 20,000 is awesome so well done!

I've really wanted to snack a lot today. I've mainly resisted but still a total of1600 calories for the day. I really want those bastard sweets. I go through phases with sweets and eat either a lot or none. I had a couple of ds's and made do with that.

Another early night. I can never shake the tiredness but then I'm getting on a bit now and all that walking and stress that is going on constantly with my eldest doesn't help matters. That's why I make sure most nights I'm in bed relaxing if not actually sleeping. Reading is my happy thing or sometimes I watch tv. Sure, I'd like to snack whilst reading or watching but I don't do that anymore (except for last night but that was ok considering) and feel so much better about myself for it. I could quite happily consume 1000 calories in the evening by eating sweets or chocolate. It's a wonder I wasn't a lot heavier.

Have a great weekend everyone and keep going with everything. Blips are ok, it's the long term changes that matter.

Ninjachicken · 27/01/2023 21:00

Thanks @Cloudberries123 i had to Google NSV 😂 really struggled with it tonight but I have resisted. planning a trip to uk and I am getting a bit over excited ! Going to bed now with a cup of herbal tea
Finishing on 18000 steps today. Pleased with that
Lunch was a banana cocoa smoothie and salmon and fresh peas for dinner
crisp bread and leerdaamer for a snack and a madeleine with jam
night night all

Squeezing in to January to report a mini-milestone….I’m now officially allowed on my sons (adult-sized) scooter without breaking it!!

AutisticLegoLover · 28/01/2023 10:48

That's great news @Bumblebeehum!

61.85kg this morning so a small loss.
Have a lovely weekend 😊

buzzofthebumblebee · 28/01/2023 14:04

Well done bumble !!! And will you be scooting? I couldn't think of anything more terrifying.

Well done on small loss Autistic. It's because maltesers are all full of air ; )

I'm keeping busy doing chores, cupboards clear out, sorting, and filling up car for dump / charity shop. Not many calories burned, but keeping busy and away from food.

This is my official last dry January weekend. Will try and continue as it saves calories, makes me sleep and feel better. But it's also very boring. Will assess alcohol in Feb. Thanks for the new thread btw TheReal. I'll join you there on Weds!

Cloudberries123 · 28/01/2023 15:16

That's so cool bumble hope you enjoy scooting! Scootering??

A loss is a loss AutisticLegoLover that's great!

You'd be surprised buzz I find I burn off the most when all I'm doing is pottering all day long.

Going to see what's happening on the Feb thread now....

Bumblebeehum · 28/01/2023 17:16

Thanks all, I will NOT be scooting (scootering 😆) unless forced to - but at least the fear of breaking the thing has gone - it’s been pretty motivating!

Cloudberries123 · 28/01/2023 17:40

Well I think it sounds amazing all the same Bumble 😁

I've put my big girl pants on today and started getting into how I want to eat in February. Normal meals, back to basics - and also OK to have dessert with a meal. But it has to be attached to a meal. Main difference will be no food snacks between meals, only drinks. Tea, coffee etc all fine as I don't want to push myself into a rebellion. But I realised I've been eating so much between meals that it could easily go from lunchtime through to dinnertime with no real pause in the grazing - and then snacking after dinner which seems to be a thing for a lot of people.

So today -

Breakfast - 2 egg cups, tea, water

Early lunch - 2 slices sourdough toast, cheese, tea

Snack - small bowl yoghurt and muesli, water

Dinner - steak, chips and salad

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Ninjachicken · 28/01/2023 17:46

12000 steps for me today and joe wicks video this morning
B: yoghurt, berries and oats
L: bagel smoked salmon and light cream cheese
D: beef enchiladas

feeling very snacky so going to have an early dinner

buzzofthebumblebee · 29/01/2023 08:54

Hope everyone are feeling bright and energised today !! I'm not - feeling far from it, but positive thinking, nice cuppa and a run will wake me up I hope.

Food generally OK yesterday, until I had some nuts. Cross with myself. Oh well, can't turn back time.

B - blueberries, yoghurt, seeds
L - soup or crudités and hummus
D - roast beef. Light on beef and roast potato, heavy on veg.

Sounds like a good plan @Cloudberries123 . I'll join you on the no snacking too. I don't tend to snack much 'cos just one always leads to another. But just like last night's nuts, the damage is quite bad when it happens.

The realisation how little I have to eat to actually loose weight is quite astonishing. I keep visualising myself as a slimmer person, in my summer clothes, and hopefully that will help.

Last push for January. Happy Sunday all!

Ninjachicken · 29/01/2023 09:04

I completely agree @buzzofthebumblebee it is shocking the small amount you have to eat to see even a tiny loss.
definately will join you and @Cloudberries123 with the no snacking. I am not someone who can ‘just have one’. Of anything really!
been invited to lunch today and I am worried it will undo a week of healthy eating. Wish me luck!!!

have a good Sunday everyone

AutisticLegoLover · 29/01/2023 10:19

It's shocking the amount of calories in some things too. I bought some chocolate chunk shortbread for the dc and thought I'd have one piece. 319 calories! So I didn't have one. Previously I'd have thought nothing of eating one or two of them. The M&S one is the best. That's always part of our train picnic on the way back from the beach. It won't be for me anymore.

AutisticLegoLover · 29/01/2023 11:25

61.75kg today.

Cloudberries123 · 29/01/2023 13:10

AutisticLegoLover I know what you mean! Tiny little cakes in the café coming in at over 400 cal 😱 I genuinely had no idea.

I'm the same Ninja I can't do just one - except if I'm in a work situation and then suddenly I'm the model of moderation 😅

Breakfast - lentils, sour cream, bag of crisps, 4 small corn tortillas

Snack - instant coffee

Lunch - chicken sandwich, snack bar, coffee

Might allow for a few honeycomb chocolates this afternoon

Dinner - pork, rice and veg I think

Feeling motivated and more settled about my food choices going forward. Trying to do less extreme things, but more consistently.

Bumblebeehum · 29/01/2023 16:25

Logged in to see suggestions for dinner. Have a full fridge and no ideas what to do!

B - bagel with biscoff spread (OMG 😍)
L - ham toastie, lentil crisps, raw carrots and a Graze Cherry Bakewell
D - ???

I used to be a crazy snacker (aka binge-eater 😎), one of my early tactics was to put protein powder in my afternoon coffee. It doesn’t taste wonderful but it does make you feel like you’ve eaten something.
I’ve completely gone off it now but it worked for a while.

AutisticLegoLover · 29/01/2023 18:31

I'm having porridge for dinner. I'm too tired to think today. Must get bananas tomorrow then I can make it healthier.
Tonight is my ball bouncing night with 3 hours of bouncing to do whilst watching Vera and Happy Valley. I like to think it gives my metabolism a boost if nothing else and it prevents me from snacking. Tomorrow I will make soup.

ndo4000 · 29/01/2023 20:01

Urghhhhh...... went to friend's house for lunch and ate so much. I can barely move...... all my hard work must have been undone. Bleurgh.

AutisticLegoLover · 29/01/2023 20:04

Now now, none of that negative thinking. One bad afternoon doesn't cause you to be overweight. File it as a blip and then carry on as you have been doing. It's a little cloud burst on an otherwise sunny holiday. Keep going.
