Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

@ImALittlePea .... I know you didn't ask me, but we use either sainsburys free from gravy granules or bistro gluten free gravy granules

ImALittlePea · 24/01/2023 15:49

Thank you @ginsparkles glad there are some granules that come recommended!

SingaporeSlinky · 24/01/2023 18:10

Feeling quite bloated today, assuming it’s AF related as I’ve been fairly good today.
3 coffees, 1 green tea, lunch was scrambled eggs cooked in a small knob of butter and served with chives. Dinner was sausages, hash browns and broccoli. Oh and 3 guylian seashells 🙂
Think I’m going to log it, because as much as it’s a pain to do it, it does motivate me to try and come in at 1200 or less.

Smugsmaug · 24/01/2023 20:20

A quick check in.

Under 7k steps today.
Calories just under 1200.
Huge bowl of homemade wild mushroom leek and spinach soup, thinly sliced rye bread, good dollop of butter.
Tuna and cucumber and shallot sandwich, thinly sliced rye bread.
High fibre porridge, with dried dates, apple, carrot, walnuts, various seeds etc.
Protein avocado and date smoothie just now, to take the edge off!

Looking forward to a few days time when I can feel it making a difference, that’s always a great motivator! Ignoring the sabotaging voice 👍

SingaporeSlinky · 24/01/2023 20:32

Ooh Smug that sandwich sounds nice.

I feel like I really need to see a drop on the scales in the morning. Once I get going, it’s a huge motivator, and I really get on a roll. It’s the slow start that I find hardest. I need to see it’s been worth it. Obviously we know that eating healthily and exercising more is good for us, but without a loss on the scales, or feeling clothes fit better, or something to show progress, it’s very disheartening.

I logged on MFP today for the first time in months, and I’ve come in at 1160, with a 1200 aim, so fine for today. I don’t include any exercise and I did go to the gym today. Looking back on my weight history, this time last year I was losing 2lbs a week, and I need to start getting that again.

buzzofthebumblebee · 24/01/2023 21:31

Thanks Gin !

1160 is great Singapore. Good luck tomorrow - and to the other WOW'rs .

AutisticLegoLover · 24/01/2023 21:39

The chia seeds are wreaking havoc and I'm thinking of offering my services to the nearest wind farm for their quiet days.
1800 today and a lazy day. I finally ate my Christmas Fortnum and Mason champagne truffles. All 4 of them. Very nice indeed. I ate them in bed for extra decadence.

SingaporeSlinky · 24/01/2023 21:55

Lol @AutisticLegoLover how many chia seeds are you having? I add a teaspoon of them to my yoghurt sometimes, along with flax seeds and don’t notice any difference.

greenspaces4peace · 24/01/2023 22:38

Oh wow, lots of fiber happening in peoples lives!
mid day here, I’ve been using oat bran sprinkled here there or wherever suitable.
cheap and available in bulk in my pantry.

Weatherwax13 · 25/01/2023 00:00

Here for Wednesday weigh in :)

SW 88.8kg

Target 76kg

Today 82.3kg

So I'm just over halfway. Really proud of my discipline this week. V low carb and absolutely no sugar. Also sticking to 16:8 now that I've adjusted.
Appetite has definitely reduced. The first week was hell!

Well done everyone else. Keep going!

Ninjachicken · 25/01/2023 07:06

So!!!
i have actually GAINED 500g since last week. Really not feeling great, I know it is not the only measure. But really. It does nothing for my motivation or general state of mind. Why is it soooo hard! Any positive comments welcome today as feel really disheartened ☹️

AutisticLegoLover · 25/01/2023 07:06

Checking in at 62kg today. I'm happy with that.it feels likes it finally shifting. Will I lose another 7lbs in 3 weeks and 2 days? Unlikely. Next goal is another 3lbs off to get to 60kg.

Have a good day everyone.

AutisticLegoLover · 25/01/2023 07:09

@Ninjachicken that sucks but is it maybe water retention? Hormones? Don't be disheartened.

Fara22 · 25/01/2023 07:28

Morning and good luck everyone weighing in! 1lb off this week, so:

SW: 15 st 8
CW: 14 st 11
1st GW: 13 st

When I reach 14st 7, I will be the lightest I have been since sept 2020, so that's another mini-goal!

How's everyone getting on exercise-wise? I'm prioritising walking and Pilates, and managing to do both regularly. Has been so cold here I've been treadmill walking whilst watching "Black Books" 😁

@Fara22 I walked 64 miles last week. I walk and bounce on a gym ball for exercise. My goal is 15,000 steps per day but I exceed that except at weekends if we don't do much. I bounce while watching tv and it's very easy to do.

buzzofthebumblebee · 25/01/2023 08:51

@Ninjachicken - I feel for you. It's absolutely rubbish when all your resistance, denials, and cutting back is rewarded with a gain. But as easy as it is for me to say, don't give up or give in. Instead have a stern word with your body. Drink loads of water to flush everything through (if that's what's causing scales to be higher than they should). Have a light day today. Perhaps another sneaky weigh tomorrow may see the loss you were expecting?

buzzofthebumblebee · 25/01/2023 09:04

I've managed a 1lb loss. Relieved, happy, disappointed all in one. This weight loss journey is emotional in more ways than one.

SW: 11 13
CW: 11 8.5
Mini GW: 11 2
GW: 10 10

But in calories SAVED last night: At least 2 large glasses wine and mindless snacking on crisps & more crisps. Possibly toast too. Usual run-of-the-mill teen stuff got me irate. I resisted drowning out my anger and frustration in food, and instead made do with finishing roast butternut squash meant for lunch today, and 2 milky decaf coffees. Plus a big ranty shout. Not proud. But justified (I think). Bad timing in that today isn't one of my run days. I'll save up the rage for tomorrow's run !! It is definitely hurt, frustration, not being heard, anger that fuels much of my binging. Working hard to not let it effect me so badly. Lots more work to do.

Well done to Weather, Autistic, Fara, Wannadisco, and rest of losers this week - of which I am sure there are many. Keep at it !!

Bumblebeehum · 25/01/2023 09:26

Morning all, no loss for me this week. TOM + a fab weekend away with my best friend, I was careful with food but drank some booze which is probably still sitting there - gotta flush through.

@Ninjachicken that sucks but it’s such a minimal gain it’s not actual fat you’ve gained, it’ll be water (and poo!), it’ll be gone by the weekend if you drink all the water (that’s what I’m telling myself this week - we can do it!)

@buzzofthebumblebee i love the approach of calories SAVED, I saved a fortune this week!!

Ninjachicken · 25/01/2023 09:27

Thank you @AutisticLegoLover and @buzzofthebumblebee
going to drink loads of water and have a light day. Trying not to let it get me down too much but it is hard. Makes me realise just how little you can can eat. And even then still not lose anything. Feeling sorry for myself, I need to snap out of it!!!!

Brieandbeetroot · 25/01/2023 09:28

Morning all! @SingaporeSlinky I feel exactly as you wrote. Still stuck at 148 so haven't gained. I know some of it is me being too relaxed and complacent, but it's so hard to be disciplined when you haven't seen any real results yet! Today needs to be a reset day where I get back to my planned approach.

Fitting in exercise is such a struggle. With toddler and work I really only have my WFH days to exercise in my lunch hour. Unfortunately, today's lunch hour needs to include dropping off parcels to return, exercising, making or eat least planning dinner and actually making and eating lunch!

Anyway, sorry for the mini rant!

SW: 151 lbs
CW: 148 lbs
Mini goal: 145 lbs by 19 February
GW: 133 lbs

Ninjachicken · 25/01/2023 09:29

Thanks @Bumblebeehum going to take the water advice. I have a litre bottle in the fridge and going to try and drink two litres. I will be going to the loo all day though!!

Cloudberries123 · 25/01/2023 09:35

I agree with the others re water and also Ninja I had a week recently where I gained 400g and then lost over 1kg by the next weigh-in. I'm convinced there's so much we don't know about the body.

I had a sneaky weigh-in yesterday and had Stayed The Same as last week. Which is also not exciting or thrilling, but it's good in a kind of steady way 😊

Goal for this coming week - get serious about the sugar and the daily dessert. If I feel I can't do it forever, at least I can do it for a week, and if I can't do it for a week, at least I can do it today.

Allthegoodnamestakken · 25/01/2023 09:38

Hello All
I am 66.3kg this morning which is less than last wednesday but more than monday. Not feeling to dishearten though as my weight fluctuates a lot in the week and overall it is a downward trend.
Still trying to do mainly veggie based meals as my body is craving fiber and nutrients after 3 weeks of very protein heavy but otherwise not nutritious food.
Menu today is
Lunch - Branflakes, dried berries, yogurt and fresh pineapple (its pineapple season and I'm very excited about it)
Dinner- Roasted veggie salad
Pudding - Mini chocolate puddings because I drove past the fancy bakery this morning and couldn't resist! but we are having salad for main so its all ok.

Well done to al the loosers, there are to many to tag!

Cloudberries123 · 25/01/2023 09:40

@8stone13 I just wanted to say thank you for sharing that story about the 'life is short' comment with your friend. I wish I could have a similar conversation with my mum and I'm working up to it - got to find the right moment and the right words. She's said she knows she needs to lose weight, she's just waiting for the motivation...
