Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

Ok weekend here. Although I did have some very indulgent cheesecake on Saturday, and then found I was extra hungry this morning. Weird how that happens. The more you eat, the hungrier you are! All week I’d been getting used to not eating until lunchtime, and yet the morning after having an extra dessert, my stomach was rumbling!

Tried to balance out the ham baguette I had for lunch by just having soup for dinner. Hopefully I’ve not undone the week’s efforts. I’m booked in for 3 gym classes and a walk with a friend this week.

I’ve switched my squash to plain water. Not a huge fan, I’m too used to squash, but I’ve read the sweeteners can make you hungrier.

Hope everyone has a good week ahead.

AutisticLegoLover · 29/01/2023 22:53

1234 calories today but I'm hungry. I've been bouncing on my ball whilst watching tv. If I eat now though I'll eat too much.

Allthegoodnamestakken · 30/01/2023 07:36

@BumblebeehumI love that victory it really is the little things! I had a similar victory when I hit 65kg a few months ago and got to start riding a different horse at the stables she is the perfect fit for me but previously I was to heavy! makes me so happy every time I ride her.
@SingaporeSlinky I definitely fine the more I eat the hungier I am particuarly if I eat quite a bit of sugar and carbs
@AutisticLegoLover How do you bounce on your ball? I bought a ball quite while ago with grand ambitions to sit on it while WFH and to use it for yoga and so far its just gathered dust in the garage. Perhaps bouncing on it would be a more realistic use.
Think my January report will be 2kg lost which takes me back to my pre december weight of somewhere between 65.6 and 66kg. Hoping to really push in February and see the number 64 for the first time.

Fara22 · 30/01/2023 07:36

Well done everyone showing restraint over the weekend! I made a reasonable run of it except for a huge roast dinner last night...

This week I have 3 Pilates sessions booked in and plan for 2 swimming sessions. I will continue aiming for a daily walk.

B: Cheese on toast
L: Eggs, toast and fruit
D: Sausages, veg and potatoes

No. Bloody. Snacking. Have a good day everyone!

Cloudberries123 · 30/01/2023 07:55

No bloody snacking 💪

Stuck to planned meals yesterday, which happily included a few of those honeycomb things I mentioned but then just didn't feel like eating more of.

Breakfast - yoghurt and muesli, couple of roast sweet potato chunks from last night. Sweet coffee

Work snacks - water, big orange, apple. Will see how hungry I am if I eat them or continue my soft launch of no snacking

Lunch - no idea. Might be a fridge raid but we've got plenty of healthy stuff in atm

Dinner - bolognaise!

Have a great start to the week everyone.

AutisticLegoLover · 30/01/2023 09:01

I have water bloating in my thighs. I'm not happy.
Dentist today for the repair of a chipped tooth. I'm not looking forward to that at all.
Keep strong on the snacking!

Brieandbeetroot · 30/01/2023 10:02

I am seeing the effects of Saturday's indulgence on the scales! I was actually quite restrained, and did not extend to Friday and Sunday, even when for a run Thursday and yesterday to keep on top of the exercise part of it. I'm finding there are just too many opportunities to indulge that I think I'm going to have to start refusing to partake in delicious treat foods even on celebratory occasions until I've got my goal. Next day of indulgence is 3 weeks away so if I really stick to my plan before then I could have some cake etc on that day. Have been invited out for coffee and cake on 11th but have decided to just have a coffee. Good luck all today!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 30/01/2023 11:13

Hi everyone. I'm back after overindulging massively for the last week or so (special occasions, birthdays, short holiday). Not looking forward to the scales on Wednesday, that's for sure. Back to calorie counting today and trying to drink lots of water to see off any bloating before Wednesday.

ImALittlePea · 30/01/2023 11:36

Morning all!

Lovely weekend had over here. Cooked a lasagne Friday, curry Saturday and a huge roast yesterday (which will become bubble and squeak a bit later on 🤤). Had a fair amount of wine, crisps and chocolate, and we may have accidentally fallen into the chip shop Saturday lunch - just the one bag of chips shared between three though. Which is fiiiiiiine 👀

Back to it today!

Lunch - cup-a-soup etc
Dinner - tortilla pizza with salad. Possibly (probably) some wedges too

At last weigh in I am 3lb down vs NYD. Very pleased with that. My next target is end of March - would really like to get another 3lb off by then. I've got eight weigh-ins between now and then, so it doesn't feel impossible, however I also feel like I might be close to my floor weight, and we also have plans pretty much every weekend now for the foreseeable.

Another shout for the NO SNACKING brigade 😁 we've got this! ☺️

buzzofthebumblebee · 30/01/2023 11:54

OMG yes @SingaporeSlinky - more I eat, hungrier I am too ! And if I eat breakfast I then want my lunch straight after. No breakfast, can hold out. Lesson in there somewhere?!

And OMG @ImALittlePea - love how you fess up all the "naughty" stuff and then - oh, by the way, 3lbs down !! That's great. Well done. Delighted for you (weight loss - not the fact you can seemingly inhale all the stuff that makes me gain minute I look at it).

B - kiwi, yoghurt, seeds
L - eggs, spinach & slice seeded sourdough
D - chicken pie & veg. I'll skip spuds, and resist as much of the pastry as I can

Exercise is on track. 10 km run yesterday, and did some weights at gym 1st thing today. I've got to do another 5km run tmw (training plan). Belly still wobbling, and legs still like parsnips. Hoping to wake up one morning for a whoosh and be a size 12.

In the meantime, no snacking, lots of water.

HURRAY FOR SUNSHINE TOO !!! It has made me feel SO much better today.

ImALittlePea · 30/01/2023 12:59

@buzzofthebumblebee sorry I've reread my post and it might be misleading - the 3lb loss is since 1st Jan up to last Friday, not in one week. I think because I am generally pretty strict during the week with what I eat, so when I relax at weekends it doesn't have as big an impact... most days I've become quite good at seeing things I want but shouldn't have, and making the sensible choice for me. Although having said that, I just had a bagel with marmite and a small bowl of crisps (leftover from the weekend) for my lunch instead of what I had planned. Sometimes you're just not in the right mood for it 🤷‍♀️😂 will compensate with extra salad tonight though.

I also I/F every day, I don't have anything other than water and tea before midday, and half the week we have "cleaned and closed" the kitchen by 6pm.

Loving the sunshine here too! It's a mood lifter for sure ☀️

SingaporeSlinky · 30/01/2023 14:08

Gym this morning, did 20 mins on bike, 20 mins uphill walking.

Lunch was usual skyr, granola, strawberries and seeds.
Dinner will be pasta bake.

No snacks today and starting to feel like it’s all working, no more bloating, feeling good!

buzzofthebumblebee · 30/01/2023 14:32

oops - my mistake pea - I missed the NYD bit. But still a v g drop for the month!

AutisticLegoLover · 30/01/2023 16:32

I've had a traumatic afternoon at the dentist where a small chip filling has become a needed inlay and there was lots of drilling. 45 minutes in the chair. I'm still numb but tingly too and can't eat or drink for a while yet. At the moment I feel like I'll never eat solid food again for fear of damaging other teeth. There's chunky soup if I do feel like some later.

Ninjachicken · 30/01/2023 21:40

Not feeling great today, overindulged yesterday and it has not made me feel good. Some exercise done but not enough. Tomorrow will be a fresh start!

SingaporeSlinky · 30/01/2023 22:23

@AutisticLegoLover sounds horrid. Hope it feels better tomorrow!

@Ninjachicken sometimes overindulging is necessary, to stop us feeling too deprived. Remember the fact it made you feel bad the following day though, that’ll be useful next time there’s an opportunity to do it again.

@ImALittlePea how much more would you like to lose?

I spoke too soon after having a good day and inhaled 3 chocolates after dinner. Could have been worse. Booked onto a spin class tomorrow.

takingcareofme2023 · 30/01/2023 23:14

Hello again...I maintained last Wed, but forgot to post. Had a busy, tiring week and then friends round at weekend and then lots of leftovers 😋 today. I've been snacking too much, not being mindful enough. When tired, stressed, overwhelmed, old habits creep in again don't they ? Am not going to be discouraged, going to be kind to myself and focus more this week. Still, I managed to get back to parkrun on Sat...ran/walked it. Spring is in the air...will try to get out on bike too.
So...continue to drink lots of water, earlier nights, exercise, moremindful of food choices.

Enjoyed reading others' posts again, many very relatable.

Can I ask about crumpets?? Mentioned a lot the other week. Are they better than toast? Why? Bought a big pack today and had a couple for breakfast, very tasty.

ImALittlePea · 31/01/2023 07:54

@SingaporeSlinky I'm not 100% set on my target weight yet. Ideally another 3-5lb off.. I'd like to be far enough below the 10st mark to have some wiggle room for holidays without going back over, but I also want it to be (relatively 👀) easier maintain so I'm going to try and listen to my body and see how the next few weigh-ins go. Once I finally build some exercise (other than running round after the kids) into my week, that should help, and I have finally found a class that runs twice a week that I'm pretty certain I'll be able to commit to 🤞

ImALittlePea · 31/01/2023 07:55

I ❤️ crumpets @takingcareofme2023 they feel more indulgent than toast. I have no idea how they fare calorie wise vs toast though.

Ninjachicken · 31/01/2023 08:47

Thanks @SingaporeSlinky i will definately remember how it made me feel. Though it may not stop me doing it again 😂
better mentality today and going to try and have a light day before WOW:
B: yoghurt, berries, oats
L: poached eggs and avocado toast
D: cocoa banana smoothie
snack: TBC

ImALittlePea · 31/01/2023 11:44

I appear to have had my fill of the 'cup-a-soup special' for lunch for a while, so going off piste again today..

Lunch - ham and cheese omelette with a salad
Dinner - bubble and squeak, sausages, lots of greens

SingaporeSlinky · 31/01/2023 12:18

Sounds good @ImALittlePea you can’t eat the same every day anyway. I get bored of yoghurt and granola sometimes so have scrambled eggs with chives for a change. And sometimes only a sandwich and crisps will do 😆

Hopeful for a small loss for tomorrow’s weigh in. Spin class done for today. Dinner will be chicken, noodle and pak choi in chicken broth.

Cloudberries123 · 31/01/2023 12:48

I'm afraid I'm one of those people who talks down sandwiches as meals and then has a sandwich at least once a day most days.

Stopping by the shops in a mo and will see if they've got Cup-a-soup and triangles LittlePea 😁 someone's got to if you're not!

Food and exercise on point so far for me -

Breakfast - 2x fried eggs, leftover sautéed veg, coffee

Work snacks - water, big orange, apple

Cloudberries123 · 31/01/2023 13:38

@ImALittlePea 😃

@Cloudberries123I love a sandwich for lunch, it is my go to not working from home option and usually at least one day at the weekend also Blush. Not much better than nice thick Ham, good strong cheese and a little bit of mustard on thick sliced homemade white bread. Luckily I don't go to the office often so its my treat then but I think sometimes bread is made out to be way worse than it is so as long as its in my calorie count and has enough protein to fill me up I think of a sandwich as a balanced meal.
