Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

Hello, I would like to join in too. Thank you so much for starting this. I still have 2 stones to lose 9 months postpartum. I was already at the lower end of overweight before pregnancy. Now I can feel my back and knees every time I pick up the baba and energy levels are very low 🤦🏻‍♀️

TheRealHousewife · 27/12/2022 08:35

Welcome back @ginsparkles 👍Nice to ‘see’ you 😊

@JosephFrancis @surreyisik Welcome to the thread!

Hello everyone! I'm glad to be a part of this weight loss thread. I've been struggling with weight gain due to my usual habits of overeating and not getting enough exercise. But I'm determined to make a change and get back on track. My plan will involve intermittent fasting and tracking my steps for exercise. I'm excited to see the progress I can make and support others on their journey as well. Let's do this!

KittyMcKitty · 27/12/2022 09:02

Can I join? I have 2 stone to lose - I feel just rubbish and hate the way I look. Massively uncomfortably bloated at the moment. I just want to feel comfortable and look nice (yes I know we should love the body we have etc etc but I am overweight and feel rubbish). I’m going to do 16:8 as that works best for me.

ImALittlePea · 27/12/2022 10:03

Checking in ready for the new year and a big old reset!

Huge thank you so much @TheRealHousewife for setting this up with everything else going on ❤️

Hi to previous posters and to newbies alike! I joined these threads at the start of 2022 and can honestly say that they've helped me immeasurably, not only with my weight loss over the year but the support over non-weight issues has been huge as well. I hope that others joining now find the same - this is a truly safe and inspiring space.

I'm going to weigh in this Friday (gulp!) to assess the Christmas impact. Deciding to not use the word 'damage' as I've enjoyed this festivetide so much that I don't want to frame the inevitable gain as a negative. It will be what it is, and my focus will return in spades, I'm sure.

In terms of my plan, I'm going to carry on with what I followed for the duration of this year, but build some exercise into the mix. So for me that is not having bread, crisps, wine, and too much other processed foods during the week (welcome back the cup-a-soup lunch 😂), following 16:8 as much as possible, loads of water. Avoiding takeaways as much as possible and sensible meal planning. Weekends are more relaxed 😁

Goal wise - well, losing the Xmas gain will be P1! I was a few lb off a 2 stone loss this year, so I think I'd like to stick that up as my target goal weight - but I'll assess properly after weigh in Friday. I'm going to start gently with the exercise with a weekly Zumba class, and desperately trying to find some other local classes that work around my kids etc. Failing that, I might just commit to a brisk walk a couple of evenings a week to start with. I don't like running, or the gym, or working out at home - which limits things somewhat 🤦‍♀️😂

Anyway, that's my download! I'll see you all in Jan - we've got this 💪

TheRealHousewife · 27/12/2022 10:05

Welcome to the thread @KittyMcKitty @emptythelitterbox . Great to have you join us! Firstly you both need to set your intentions and decide on what your going to do to bring about change. Plan, plan, plan 😬

For everyone:- Useful link Stress & Overeating

We all know our mental health and life’s stresses and strains can affect our eating patterns. Some people under-eat and some overeat. Being aware of your triggers can help in identifying more healthy ways of managing stress. Getting in the right headspace is key to weight loss.

Hi @ImALittlePea cross-posted. Excellent post! Especially the bit about not feeling guilty about the festive & joyfully gained weight. Just excellent 👌 Congratulations on your more or less 2 stone 2022 loss! 👏👏👏

I’m in for the reset!
I managed to lose 3 stone this year and would like to lose another stone in 2023. I’ve been following ww but starting to find it a bit restrictive now so doing a gradual swap over to calorie counting on MFP. My main goal isn’t going to be weight loss though. I want to concentrate on toning up and my body getting stronger so I need some motivation (courage) to keep hitting the gym.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/12/2022 13:30

I had some Christmas money so I have purchased a hypnosis gastric band programme from a hypno company I have used before, as a Boxing Day promo code came through. I am excited to try it actually, I love the relaxation side of it, but also my biggest problem is my appetite is just insatiable. I just eat so so much. Even when I do keto or sugar free that everyone says curbs your appetite, it never really has that effect for me. So hopefully this combined with a healthy diet will reduce my overall calorie intake enough to actually lose some weight this time 🤞

TheRealHousewife · 27/12/2022 14:43

Welcome to the thread @CCL333 & @thenewaveragebear1983. Congrats on losing 3st @CCL333 That is a significant amount of weight loss to achieve in 1 year 👏👏👏. I calorie count and use MFP. No food is banned and it works for me as long as I stay within my limit 👍

Good luck with your virtual gastric band @thenewaveragebear1983 . Let us know how you get on please, I’m genuinely interested. Side note, is your insatiable appetite a life long thing or is it stress/mood related?

I’ve re-posted a piece that some might find useful. It reflects a lot of what I’d discovered worked for me over the past few years.

A couple of indigestion tablets and I'm feeling less bloated. I've made lentil, carrot and celery soup this afternoon ready for a healthy dinner either today or tomorrow. I don't have much appetite at the moment and there's all the cheese and chocolate and crisps and crackers but I'm not interested. I'm full if a cold and that's probably why. I didn't even enjoy my cup of tea this morning. Things won't improve much for me activity wise until dc are back at school on the 9th then I'll be back to 50 miles a week walking and a better routine. For now I'll enjoy the holidays.

menomonster · 27/12/2022 15:12

Thanks for starting this, I am jumping in. Had a rubbish 2022 (including an accident which needed knee surgery and months of doing very little, and then I started having menopausal stuff). So I put on 2 stone between the spring and Christmas. Now, I feel grumpy, moody, overweight, and old, and something needs to change.

I think I am going to try a GI/GL diet (so looking at glycemic index or load, depending on what suits me better), as I think that would suit me. I hate having to calorie count as I know I will not do it, and I want to have meals that the whole family can eat too with some modifications. I do some exercise (mainly the exercises the physio gives me), and can go for shortish walks, but nothing else more strenuous at present, which is frustrating as I used to cycle and run.

So, I am now 11 st 9 and I want to lose 2 stone to get back to where I was this time last year, and back into a healthy BMI.

Brieandbeetroot · 27/12/2022 15:26

I'd like to join please! I have a number of long term habits I'm looking to change, break or begin in the coming year and finally losing 18 pounds that have crept on over the years is one of them. I'm not overweight but the weight is a reflection of some less than ideal dietary and fitness habits. But the excuses stop today! Looking forward to some motivation and accountability to turn things around in 2023.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/12/2022 16:03

@TheRealHousewife it’s a life long thing. It does get worse with my hormones but as I’m getting older I find I get hormonal when I ovulate as well as when I’m due on so I pretty much only get 1 normal week each month now 🤦‍♀️ but even as a child I could eat and eat and eat, and I can eat even when I’m not hungry which is why I never get the full effect from keto because I hear my body saying it’s not hungry and then I eat anyway. I don’t think I taste sweet food as intensely as other people do either because I can eat so much sugar and rarely feel sick. I have really disordered eating and a rubbish relationship with food. I think if I could just recognise when I am full and stop it could really help me.

TheRealHousewife · 27/12/2022 16:56

@AutisticLegoLover sorry to read you’re under par 🤒 The soup you’ve made sounds delicious 😋

Welcome to the thread @menomonster . Here’s hoping you soon recover from your accident/operation. I totally get it … I cant do what I used to exercise wise and find it frustrating!

@Brieandbeetroot (love the username, literally 😋) Welcome aboard. You are absolutely doing the right thing in addressing your weigh gain. It will reap rewards not only in your silhouette but your health markers and general well being 👍

@thenewaveragebear1983 I agree, disrupted hormones wreck havoc on our appetites, mood, energy levels etc. In regards to snacking/overeating I’m sure you’ve thought of this but have you considered a hobby such as knitting, sewing, drawing, painting etc that keeps your hands busy.

I’d love to join this too please! I have gained and lost the same half a stone for years now. At the top end of my normal BMI and have now just crept into overweight with the Christmas pounds. I keep following the same pattern of having a good ten days or so on a new diet, then having an off day, then a few good days, then a few bad and before I know it, I’ve fallen off the wagon completely. I’m an absolutely terrible binge eater too - my actual meals are usually healthy, I just really need to get a handle on the extra calories I eat when I’m too tired! My plan is the Louise Parker method - this was getting lovely results last year before I sabotaged it with binging again and the food was lovely. Thanks for the thread. Looking forward to starting January with some good healthy habits. I’d love to stay on course and lose about 1.5 stones but it feels so daunting!

Smugsmaug · 27/12/2022 19:21

I’m back! Hello to everyone! In the nicest possible way, glad I’m not the only one feeling meh and bloated! Placemarking for when I restart. Taking a few days out. Managed to sort of pace myself, however all bets were off from Xmas day, and counting 😅 overdid stocking up and it needs to be eaten. Does anyone have a date circled to restart? I was thinking either Friday or Monday…and any plans on how to ease back in? Open all ears for tips to help get me back in the mindset 😊

ILoveNigelTufnel · 27/12/2022 19:32

I’d love to join too please! I lost quite a bit through exercise and eating less I’m August - October half term and then it all went wrong when I hurt my knee and I stopped exercising. I had really been enjoying it too.

I don’t know how over weight I am as I don’t have scales but it’s definitely a few stone. Someone congratulated me on my pregnancy in September. I’m not pregnant. I was mortified. So was she to be fair, she’s a really lovely lady and I was wearing a floaty dress but even so, I must be pretty massive for someone to think that.

In the last few weeks I have just had one germ after another and I’m just ill all the time and feel rubbish. There’s a lot of ill health in my family and things are going to get worse so I need to look after myself so I can be there for the people who need me.

So… I have started today. Today I have done exercise! And tomorrow I shall do some more!

Hi all. I'd like to join too. Need to lose about 5 stone and feel so bloody unfit.
My main aims at the moment are drastically cut down the sweet foods, up the veg and try the 16:8 fasting approach.
I'm also really considering joining an expensive gym about 20mins from where I live. It has a lido and I would love to swim outdoors regularly. Need to have a proper look at the prices and see! Have a great evening all

thesurreymum · 27/12/2022 19:46

I am joining too! Will weigh myself in the morning but I am actually dreading it! I reckon I will have about 3 stone to lose.

lipstickwoman · 27/12/2022 19:48

I'd like to join please. I'm currently gaining some of the 3.5 stone I lost a couple of years ago and need to sort myself out pronto

Coffeesnob11 · 27/12/2022 20:26

Can I join please. I lost loads and have gained it all back plus some due to poor mental health and being in a flat where I couldn't brother without disturbing the neighbours. I have just moved into a house so can get back on the walking machine, use my weights and do hiit. Food wise I will do a mix of 16/8, high protein, mainly whole foods. I would like to lose a total of 2.5 stones in total but first aim is 8lbs. Looking forward to joining everyone.

TheRealHousewife · 27/12/2022 20:33
