Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

@AutisticLegoLover virtual strength coming your way.

Brieandbeetroot · 26/01/2023 13:46

Just went for a run to distract myself from wanting to eat rubbish and it has worked. When I exercise and feel hungrier, I'm satisfied with normal food, when I'm bored and not hungry, treats rear their ugly heads!

I think when it comes to emotional eating it's such a complex reset that it just takes times. Recognising when it happens, and an element of acceptance. Some days I'll have some comfort food and that doesn't make me a failure, other days I'll resist and feel good about it. But this is the long haul, today's biscuit will be a blip in the overall success!

So noodles with veg for lunch it is, and venison osso buco with loads of veg for dinner. Saturday is going to be indulgent as having belated Burns celebration with family but am determined to indulge moderately (is that an oxymoron?) and not let it seep into Friday and Sunday as well.

Good luck for the rest of the day everyone..

Rewis · 26/01/2023 13:52

@SingaporeSlinky I watch netflix while doing it so it becomes tolerable. For regular gym exercise I listen to my fave podcast. Only allowed to listen when exercising so in order to keep up have to be active. That workd form me.

AutisticLegoLover · 26/01/2023 16:56

Ive never listened to a podcast. Am I missing out? I don't even know what they are 🤦‍♀️

The meeting was a waste of time but at least I went and I was on time unlike any of the others. The social either wants us all to attend family therapy. No thank you, not with him. Abusive in every way possible and I'm not being subjected to that.

No dinner plans. I am considering a big ass bag of Maltesers fresh from the freezer once I'm in bed. That would be my dinner. 971 calories in so far and 9 miles walked so far so I can "afford it" I suppose.

AutisticLegoLover · 26/01/2023 18:20

I have the Maltesers at the ready

greenspaces4peace · 26/01/2023 18:26

@AutisticLegoLover how about a huge mug of tea (to hopefully fill you up before you down the entire bag of maltesers) :)
congratulations on attending the meeting! you're a strong woman.

Cloudberries123 · 26/01/2023 19:54

Maltesers are yummy. Especially with tea. Do what you need to do tonight - but maybe you'll feel better tomorrow if you have something a bit more filling and stabilising as well? Piece of cheese, or some yoghurt?

Good on you for doing your bit, arriving on time, and maintaining boundaries that you don't want to attend therapy with someone who abused you. Gold sticker right there 🌟

I'm writing from a slight fog of being frustrated and stressed about baby's crazy bedtimes (currently in bed with her next to me) but today has been decent. The hilly walk to and from work is getting genuinely easy, that's a great NSV.

Foodwise I've had some less nutritious things but they've been sort of factored in and didn't provoke a cupboard raid, so I feel good about it.

Breakfast - 1x egg cup, small ramekin of overnight oats (not really a fan), protein ball, coffee

Work snacks - water, satsuma, apple

Lunch - chicken wrap, coffee, water

Snack - taralli and houmous

Dinner - battered haddock, spinach and cauliflower cheese. Ate a bit of cheese while cooking as that is irresistible 🧀😉

Been enjoying reading everybody's thoughtful posts today! Good luck to WoFers tomorrow (@SanFranBear how are you doing?)

AutisticLegoLover · 26/01/2023 20:25

I promise to eat better tomorrow. I've just got home after an event at school with dd and ds's swimming lesson and just want my bed. If I don't eat the Maltesers I won't eat at all. It's too late to be making anything and I feel sick. Tomorrow is a new day and I'll be good, promise!

Well done on the NSV! We all need those to keep us going. Mine today was my dress and coat fitting better. My middle has lessened in the last 2 weeks since I last wore the dress.

AutisticLegoLover · 26/01/2023 21:46

Well, that was interesting. Before I started being more careful about what I ate I could eat a huge bag of Maltesers no problem. The ones that cost £2.60 and are about 175g or thereabouts. Tonight I bought a 102g bag and by the time I hit 3/4 way through I'd had enough. I had a small rest and finished them off of course but that's a big difference for me. I've not eaten much chocolate for the last couple of months. Not even over Christmas. Some, but nothing compared to normal. This is my new normal now and I like it!

greenspaces4peace · 26/01/2023 22:27

@AutisticLegoLover 👍

Allthegoodnamestakken · 27/01/2023 05:36

@SingaporeSlinky I try to make or bake my own treats from scratch. Still not healthy but at least I know the content and it's real food and nutrients compared to shop bought. I also find I'm satisfied with a lot less, I could eat a whole packet of shop bought biscuits but a couple of homemade ones are enough.
Sometimes I try and go a bit healthier with cocoa and oat balls or date balls etc. But so far the occasional homemade cake hasn't damaged my diet.
@AutisticLegoLover glad you made it through hope you're feeling better today.
Menu today is
Lunch - a work meeting at a curry place will try to choose a non saucey dish
Dinner - chicken of some sort

AutisticLegoLover · 27/01/2023 06:51

Morning all. The scales are steady at 62kg. My porridge and chia seeds are in the jug ready to go in the microwave for breakfast. Lunch will be berries and yogurt. Dinner I've no idea yet.
Hope you all have a good day. I'm glad it's Friday.

AutisticLegoLover · 27/01/2023 07:02

@SingaporeSlinky I bake too and do some oatmeal raisin or cranberry cookies that are very filling. You could use any dried fruit I suppose. It's my own variation on a delia smith recipe.
www.deliaonline.com/recipes/occasions/easter/easter-recipes-for-children-to-make/raisin-hazelnut-crunchies

I don't use nuts or salt in my recipe. It is quick and easy and I make it in a pan. They are nice and chewy and oats eat up bad cholesterol and cancel out the butter 😁 lots of fibre from the oats and dried fruit. I like to think of them as a balanced snack. They take a while to eat with being thick and chewy so they aren't gone in the blink of any eye like some biscuits or chocolates.

SingaporeSlinky · 27/01/2023 07:32

Thanks @Allthegoodnamestakken and @AutisticLegoLover I sometimes make some lovely egg and cheese muffins with whatever veg I have in the fridge, like I’ll finely chop some mushrooms, onion and tomato. They’re delish, but I definitely think it’s the sweet treats I’m looking for. I’ll take a look at your recipes.

ImALittlePea · 27/01/2023 07:53

Well done for getting through your difficult day yesterday @AutisticLegoLover

I'm a relieved Little Pea over here this morning, a gain of 2oz but it hasn't tipped me back up into the 10st bracket which I was totally expecting after the overindulgence on Sunday! So no complaints at all. And no extra meals and takeaways this weekend so hopefully I see a loss next week.

Happy Friday all 🎉

Cloudberries123 · 27/01/2023 07:54

Shocker of a night with the baby, she was up for most of it and forgot what the concept of sleep was. It's not like her tbh. Anyway I had 6 of DP's chocolate digestives at 2am just to get some energy and have woken up with a tummy like a balloon, I'm that bloated. Really uncomfortable.

Nursing a coffee now and just accepting that today may be ruled by the primal lizard brain saying 'sugar sugar sugar' - but proud that I've managed to pack my usual work snacks despite the lack of rest.

Great weigh-in AutisticLegoLover and I might nab that biscuit recipe!

Cloudberries123 · 27/01/2023 07:56

LittlePea I had to look up 2oz and that's only 56g! You could wee that out 😉 Well done

ImALittlePea · 27/01/2023 07:56

Oh bless you @Cloudberries123 how old is little one? My youngest was an awful sleeper and I well remember the middle-of-the-night raid of the biscuits to keep sane/going. She's two now and just coming out of a mini regression, it never stops hitting hard. Sending solidarity, strength... And hopefully some sleep!

ImALittlePea · 27/01/2023 07:57

I squeezed out as much wee as I could pre weigh in! 😂😂

Cloudberries123 · 27/01/2023 07:59

LittlePea She's 6 months... Was such a great sleeper till just a week/10 days ago! 😵

ImALittlePea · 27/01/2023 09:41

@Cloudberries123 the good thing is, if she's got the innate ability to sleep, she will more than likely to get back into better habits soon. Hopefully sooner than later though! There's always something when they're so little isn't there.

buzzofthebumblebee · 27/01/2023 09:47

Hurray for your weigh in @ImALittlePea. It's only 2oz (on!) but it's the bigger picture of not getting into next stone bracket isn't it?

Hope you cope OK today @Cloudberries123 . Broken sleep is tough.

Today is a new day @AutisticLegoLover - well done for all you had on yesterday. And for stopping part way through maltesers bag. That is very impressive !!

Good for you all baking. I'm rather lax, unless its for a birthday.

Food OK yesterday, but I had more pasta than I needed. But was very hungry. Struggling to balance how much extra to eat with my running, especially when I am craving carbs, and wanting to loose weight. My 5mile run yesterday said I used up 700+ calories. Read somewhere to eat half back. Does that seem sensible?

B - all bran (see above - craving carbs !!!)
L - no idea - eggs? chicken and salad / veg?
D - no idea - always seem to loose momentum by end of the week!

Have a good day. Last push for January. Keep drinking water !!

ImALittlePea · 27/01/2023 10:14

Absolutely @buzzofthebumblebee I don't feel I deserve to still be in the 9s but I'm gonna take it! It'll spur me forward into next week nicely too.

I wish I was more into baking. I love cooking, and I'm generally quite a good cook, but I'm an AWFUL baker. I made my daughter's first birthday cake and it was an utter disaster; somehow managed to make it both overcooked and partly raw?! It's a rare and special talent I have 😂 it's a shame as I'd love to do it as an activity with the kids more often, but it's just a waste of time and ingredients as more often than not, the end result is inedible.

I'm not sure on lunch today. Feel I should have my normal, but also have some bagels in the cupboard so might have one with something... Maybe BLT, or cheese, marmite and salad. Let's see what wins out on the conscience vs cravings 👀
Dinner - making a lovely big lasagne this afternoon to have tonight
Out for drinks tonight so need a good carby stomach liner 😁

Allthegoodnamestakken · 27/01/2023 10:42

@SingaporeSlinky I am a real sweet tooth I make these quite often electricbluefood.com/chocolate-oatmeal-balls/
Not at all healthy! but I weigh each portion before rolling so I know the calories, I usually make smaller ones than in the recipe so they're about 100cals each and they're so rich I feel satisfied with a 2 or 3 particularly if I eat them with some fruit.
Not exactly a well balanced snack but at least its real food and I think 300cals of these is much better than me eating a giant bar of dairy milk

AutisticLegoLover · 27/01/2023 10:59

Everything is back on track today. I'm going to make some soup today but I think we are having pasta for dinner. Exercise is the usual amount. I really wish my digestive system would respond better to my attempts to get it going Blush I'd probably drop 2lbs if it did!
