Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

Checking in with a thank you TheRealHousewife.

My stomach is horrendously bloated thanks to too much cheese, and oil in roast things. I've not eaten much chocolate, no crisps, one fizzy drink, 3 glasses wine, 2 large baileys. Horrible AF and processed food equals one upset digestive system so back to more normal tomorrow. I might make some soup. Got a walk in today up to and around the park.

Here's to a 2023 that's healthier and happier.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/12/2022 20:23

I’ll join you please, I am feeling very full and bloated! I’m planning a strict Whole30 starting Jan 1st and then will see where I go after that. I am training for London marathon in April so will be focussing on my nutrition and exercise, rather than excessively calorie counting

BellyDancer124 · 26/12/2022 20:24

Joining! This thread helped me so much last year. We go again Smile

LucyLatimer · 26/12/2022 20:25

Yes please, had enough of Xmas food now. Planning a weigh and a walk tomorrow

Midnightstar76 · 26/12/2022 20:35

Yes I am in! Currently in bed feeling bleh from all the buffet food chocolates etc etc. At least I won’t eat anymore cheese and biscuits if in bed. Plan is to remove the snacks from view tomorrow, weigh in and do a fast.

Newyearnewarse · 26/12/2022 20:43

Place marking .
I am sad and annoyed at how much weight I have to lose. However over this last year other things in my life have improved and this is the last thing to be sorted.
I will weigh tomorrow and need all the help I can get so will definitely regularly check in if that's OK?
I need a new notebook to make lists . Lists are always my starting point 😎

babynoname22 · 26/12/2022 20:50

First time joining something like this but might help me be motivated!!

I'm 15 weeks post section for second baby. In 5 weeks I need to get into a dress for SIL wedding.

I have eaten shite. Need to meal plan better. Intending on calorie counting and using pinch of nom books and upping exercise.

StorybookWitch · 26/12/2022 21:23

Hello all. I'd love to join, I'm in desperate need of some motivation. I'm so fed up feeling overweight and unfit, and fed up with great intentions only to go off the rails again. I want this to be the last time I start. We have 2 big family events next year and I want to feel healthy and comfortable in my skin when they come around!

I have no plan as of yet, trying to decide whether or not to download the bodycoach app, but I'm going to spend the next few days focusing on moving more and making better food choices, then all in on January 1st!

TheRealHousewife · 26/12/2022 21:42

Lovely to have you both & Welcome back @AutisticLegoLover & @BellyDancer124 … you know you can can get back in the groove 👍

Welcome to the thread @LucyLatimer @Midnightstar76 @Newyearnewarse @StorybookWitch @babynoname22 @thenewaveragebear1983

Congratulations on your new baby @babynoname22 🥳 Baby steps!

One tip for those of you feeling bloated and bleh … get the water in, increase veg, salad and none starchy veg and protein 👍

I am in. Have been thinking about what has worked for me in the past, need to get planning for a 1st Jan start.

Fara22 · 26/12/2022 22:08

Hello to everyone! I'd love to join you. I managed to lose about 8lb in the run up to Christmas, but still lots to go.

We're on holiday at the moment - somewhere very hot with no mince pies, Christmas pudding, or Christmas cake in sight. It might just have saved me!

My goal is to not be in this same very dull, very limited, summer wardrobe by the time the British summer rolls around. 🤞🏻

Blackandwhitehorse · 26/12/2022 22:21

Hey everyone, I’d love to join this!
My danger time for eating rubbish is the evening whilst watching TV - crisps and chocolate.

Had a bit of a weird stressful second half on 2023 and would really like to get into more of a routine with cooking and exercise. Dreading weighing myself!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/12/2022 22:24

@Fara22 summer clothes are my big motivator too. This year I reluctantly bought a few cheap bits in bigger sizes but I really love and feel attached to my smaller things, I think because they hold a lot of memories of special summer holidays. I felt genuinely sad at the end of the summer when I put my new stuff away, looking at it all and thinking if I continue to gain weight as I have done this year, those favourite pieces will be a distant dream by next summer.

mac1974 · 26/12/2022 22:52

Plse can I join. I've bounced around with slimming world in 2022 but whilst I do lose I just put it back on as I lose interest. Thinking dry Jan for a kick start and using Nutracheck to do calorie counting. Got about 20lb to lose I think. Darent weigh myself yet though!

Fara22 · 26/12/2022 23:19

@thenewaveragebear1983 Yes, I felt smart enough when I looked in the mirror at home, but being somewhere where everyone is permanently dressed for the heat, they have such nice clothes (and all slim and fit!) It's a different game. Definitely nice summer clothes are the goal!

Baileysoverice · 26/12/2022 23:27

I'm in! Over 5 stone to go for health reasons and I'm quite frankly dreading it but can't carry on as I am. Will be aiming for low carb and fasting but still figuring out the finer details. Will read through previous posts in hope of some inspiration!!

SwordToFlamethrower · 26/12/2022 23:38

Hello!
I'm 6 weeks post partum and want to get fit more than anything else.
I have about a stone and half to lose and I am breastfeeding.

I want to do couch to 5k again (done it about 3 times before) and a bit of yoga. All around having a baby to look after.

Was reasonably successful with slimming world before getting pregnant so might dip into that again. Only thing is, I'm actively avoiding artificial sweeteners now I've found out they actually do mess with your brain. (Read it in the British medical journal) And I refuse to stop having sugar in my hot drinks.

It may be harder to lose but so be it. This is about health after all.

Best of luck!

onelife22 · 27/12/2022 00:06

Need a serious kick up the backside!!

I'm over 12st now. The heaviest I've been not pregnant. Second baby is 20 months old and I really have no excuse.

Wine is my biggest downfall on weekends. Dry January is it to beat the bloat then alongside calorie counting and 4 workouts a week!

I can do this... felt happy around the 10st-10.4st mark...

fallfallfall · 27/12/2022 00:26

@TheRealHousewife i'm flabbergated!!
amazingly kind of you to start the january thread.
hugs and tea coming your way Brew
i'm in! not sure on the motivation level YET but...ds (youngest 38) proposed to his gf of 3 years (who we adore) and she said yes!!
so back to aiming for that elusive 135 (lowest last year 141)

LucyLatimer · 27/12/2022 07:02

Just steeled myself and got on the scales. I have put on 3.3kg since I last weighed before the snow. I was just mid way through a planned loss of 30kg that I started in July. I am awaiting results from the Zoe study, which are due 1st jan. Great to join you all, I am looking forward to healthy eating, with my Zoe scores, exercising and a positive mindset. Good luck everyone.

milkfromthesleepycow · 27/12/2022 07:32

Joining in. Thanks @TheRealHousewife for the new thread. Really amazing of you to keep it up after your December 💐

Will weigh in tomorrow and do an annual round up of achievements and goals for 2023. Have definitely had a few days with my foot off the pedal so need to damage assess!

Holidayqueen1 · 27/12/2022 07:40

Hi everyone, new to the thread but sadly not weight loss- been yo-yoing for years but have put over 2 stone on since covid. I have a horrendous 4 1/2-5 stone to lose and am the heaviest I’ve ever been 😱. BUT I’m determined. 5/2 and Fast800 have worked for me in the past plus ww a v long time ago. I’m not doing f800 as can’t sustain the vvv low carb thing. Think i’m going to do 5/2 with an 8 hour eating window every day if I can manage it. Got my delivery slot booked for 2/1 and meal planning now. Also doing dry jan. Good luck and looking forward to helping each other!

TheRealHousewife · 27/12/2022 07:51

Good Morning

Hi @fallfallfall I need the distraction tbh; plus the coming week is going to be busy and I wanted to get ahead iyswim. I started these type threads in 2017 and this will be the 6th year. The initial threads were ‘Lose 7lbs’ in January etc. I soon realised that goal was unrealistic for most people myself included. Hence the LOSE IT! tag. Congratulations 🥳 to your son and fiancé … you’d better get looking for a hat 😊

Welcome to the thread @lbnblbnb @Fara22 @Blackandwhitehorse @Baileysoverice @mac1974 @SwordToFlamethrower @onelife22 Well done on starting to think about the changes you’ll need to make in the coming days/weeks/months. Try not to think of it as a diet and more like a lifestyle change. It’s important to be realistic in what can be achieved and for it to remain sustainable. Meals need to be enjoyable as well as nutritious. In an ideal world you’ll pack in the fibre, protein, healthy carbs, healthy fats etc. For those able to do so, adding exercise will have many benefits including improved sense of well-being and feeling generally healthier and fitter. These aspects all aid in keeping you motivated to eat well. MyFitnessPal is a great free app that can assist in tracking cals if that’s your thing.

Congratulations on your baby @SwordToFlamethrower 🥳6 weeks ago. Baby steps as I’m sure you’re still healing.

@LucyLatimer Well done on your lose to date, still significant even if you’ve gained a little over the festive period (who hasn’t 😬). I applied to join the Zoe study but they replied they don’t yet have a Zoe Test that’s safe for celiacs. I’m hoping it won’t be too long before they do one I can partake in. Keep us posted on your progress with it 👍

@onelife22 I can totally empathised with your scale result. Seeing 12 in my weigh-in was my motivation to lose. Im not very tall at around 5ft on a good day. I remember feeling totally shocked as I’d not been really registering I was getting heavier. My weight gain came after sustaining a spinal cord injury which put main stream exercise out of reach (I was very active before)whilst my eating remained the same. I do some movement now but jogging/running etc is a no no. Imagine yourself this time next month and feeling some accomplishment at having made a start in losing some weight and beginning to feel more energised 👍

I will be also posting on the December thread also as it’s still current 😬

Have a great day!

Yes, I will join. I need to lose about 4 stone

ginsparkles · 27/12/2022 08:03

Hello.... I was going to try to find this thread in January and by chance you popped up, so I'd love to come back. In honesty I won't be doing much until January but a quick hi until then. Can't wait to catch up on everyone's news and successes.
