Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

Hi All! Newish to these threads but find then very supportive and inspiring!

I’m a calorie counter if anyone wants to hook up for mutual support/tips etc!

I write down everything (although not Xmas eve/Xmas day/boxing day). I need to eat between 1400 and 1800 to lose weight. My starting weight was 158lbs. My CW is (pre Christmas 😬) 149lbs. GW is 133lbs.

Anyone had any luck with Shirataki Noodles?

ChecoPerez · 27/12/2022 20:59

Hello. Would like to join. Had my first baby in January and now back at work and looking to shift the baby weight. I am now the biggest I've ever been.

Not sure where to start....

ndo4000 · 27/12/2022 21:25

I'm in. God I look disgusting in the Christmas photos. I feel really low and not sure how to find the will power to stop drinking wine and eating crisps. I've signed up for the £1 Noom trial (no money to actually sign up properly) so am hoping that will put me on the right track.

Ethiopianflower · 27/12/2022 21:36

I’m in too. Met some friends today for a walk today. They looked so trim and fit - felt like a blob beside them. I’m determined!!! Last time I did this I lost 2 stone. Hopefully it goes as well this time. Good luck everyone ☘️

menomonster · 27/12/2022 21:41

Thanks for the nice welcome, TheRealHousewife, it will be good to not be doing this alone. I love the idea of seeing it as positive lifestyle change rather than a temporary unpleasant diet, makes a lot of sense.

ndo4000, I looked at the Noom app and wondered what it would be like, would be interesting to see how it goes for you.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 27/12/2022 22:05

Hi, can I join you all with a view to weighing in on the 4th? I've lost around three stone slowly over the last few years, I have around a stone to go but plateaued a bit in the second half of this year. Calorie counting and regular exercise helps me. I want to shake the extra pounds and generally be fit and healthy to help me through menopause and beyond.

ndo4000 · 28/12/2022 07:17

@menomonster so far it's logging your calories (like MFP) and it divides the calories into green, yellow & red. They talk a lot about calorie density and I have to do a lot of quizzes.....

Medenagan · 28/12/2022 07:31

Hi. I’d love to join in, please. I definitely need to make some changes, with at least 3 stone to lose. Thanks for getting this going.

AutisticLegoLover · 28/12/2022 08:48

Today is a new day and one that will be more normal regarding good and exercise. So far a cup of tea and a toasted muffin. My stomach feels more settled today and I'll be walking 3 miles as a minimum; not my usual amount but a start.

My plan for January and beyond:

•Eat more fruit and vegetables
•No eating after 6pm (we eat dinner around 5)
• Drink plenty of water
• Take a multivitamin
• lights out by 10.30pm

CW (Christmas Eve) 9st 9lb (with AF extra included)
GW 9st 3lb by February 17th (holiday requiring swim wear)
SW 10st 10lb (I think but can't remember exactly).

I'll weigh on New Year's Day to see where I am up to after eating more than usual and doing little exercise since the 24th.

Nishky32 · 28/12/2022 09:39

Hi everyone- I weigh in tomorrow- have had a great Christmas ( and my daughter’s 21st birthday I am adopting @ImALittlePea approach of seeing it as ‘impact’ and not ‘damage’ - thanks for your great post - inspirational!

TheRealHousewife · 28/12/2022 10:41

Good Morning Everyone 😊

Welcome to the thread @ChecoPerez @ndo4000 @Ethiopianflower @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo @Medenagan These threads are very supportive and inspiring. They are actually what all you ladies make them by sharing your progress and achievements and also sharing when it doesn’t always go to plan 👏👍

I agree @Nishky32The post that @ImALittlePea wrote was very inspiring and absolutely bang on! 👏

@AutisticLegoLover Youve made great progress! Well done 👏 You plan going forward is realistic and achievable 👍

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo Well done on your significant loss to date 👍 Awesome 👏Now Keep going, no matter what the scales say, it’ll come off eventually 😬

@ndo4000 I never take a good photo whereas my OH is very photogenic 🤷‍♀️ Annoying to say the least. I think it’s about confidence and how we hold ourselves. He can be looking grumpy and in his oldest clothes … put him in front of camera and his whole persona switches up a gear. 📸

Menu
Meal 1 - ‘Shroom omelette & side salad. 2chocolates & mini gf mince pie 😬
Meal 2 - Home made curry and sautéed cabbage (instead of rice) 2 satsumas

Exercise
Session 1 - Hand weights.
Session 2 - floor exercises.

Make the changes, follow through on your intentions and feel your own transformations. You can do it!

Thanks for the welcome @TheRealHousewife and good luck to anyone weighing in today.

While I'm going to start afresh on the calorie counting (using the nutracheck app) next Wednesday, I'm planning on some exercise today - a bodycombat class (I use the Les mills app).

Foxymoxy68 · 28/12/2022 13:39

Hello! So glad to have found this thread! May I join please?
Earlier this year, I was about a stone overweight and decided to try Nutracheck which was worked really well for me. I was logging everything and exercising regularly at the gym. Then at Easter, my family suffered a very sudden and tragic bereavement. This affected me very badly and I completely lost it with my eating, drinking (wine mainly) and activity level.
I was then diagnosed with coeliac disease which has been a major thing for me to get my head around. I’ve put on another stone since then so now have 2 stone to shift!
I now feel ready to reset. I retire from teaching in July 2023 and have lots of lovely things to look forward to next year including 2 holidays abroad and 2 family weddings so lots of incentives!
The plan is to resume with Nutracheck and I’ve signed up to start a couch to 5K in January with a local running club.
Thrilled to have found such a supportive group of people who are on a similar journey. Thank you and good luck! 🍀

Hi all, I was on these threads fairly actively in spring last year and then dipped in and out. Just had a very quick skim read of the December thread and wanted to send my condolences to @TheRealHousewife . It must have been a shock, and lots of mixed emotions based on past trauma. Take care of yourself.

I have been unapologetically pigging out all through December really, and with so much going on, shopping, prepping for guests, various viruses etc I didn’t go to the gym at all. Had been going a few times a week until that point, and fully intend to get back once the DC are back to school. But will enjoy finishing off the cheeses and nuts in the meantime!

melissasummerfield · 28/12/2022 14:14

Hey, would love to join! I have a lot of weight to lose, but going to try focusing on building good habits first, like walking every day, taking my supplements, drinking at least 3lt of water and having high protein high veg meals ☺️ I use nutracheck to calorie count / track intake.

Will weigh on Wednesday to go with the group weigh ins ☺️

TheRealHousewife · 28/12/2022 14:50

You’re very welcome @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo 👍

Welcome to the thread @Foxymoxy68 Condolences about your family bereavement 💔It sounds like you’ve an exciting year ahead, plenty to look forward too! Weddings are great incentives to keep you on track 👍

Lovely to see you @SingaporeSlinky ❤️ You’ll soon be back on track! As Tim Spectre says “Diet over time is more important than absolute adherence every day”.

Welcome to the thread @melissasummerfield … have you been on them in the past? Your name rings a bell.

Hello, checking in from the December thread to say I am reading along but that's about it at the moment. We are still in the depths of Christmas mode!

Thanks and Flowers to RealHousewife

menomonster · 28/12/2022 16:09

ndo4000 I like the idea of quizzes, I guess the idea is to train good habits?

I have my copy now of the Low-GL Diet Bible and so far it seems it would work for me. From what I have read so far, I think it is sort of low-carb or keto in origin in that you try to limit the quantity of carbs, and eat lots of protein as well as fat, but it divides carbs into good and bad carbs, and helps you chose the good ones, so in fact you can have some carbs, and it encourages lots of vegetables and pulses etc. The basic idea is that you you try to balance your blood sugar level which helps prevent you feeling too hungry or having cravings. My biggest weakness this year has been snacking in the evenings, so I hope this will help with that. I am not wrong here - I have only been reading up on it a bit so far.
To be honest, overall it really just looks like sensible eating with sensible portion sizes. We will see. I will let you all know how it goes.

I am also trying to do some yoga / meditation in the mornings, just 15 mins to help with stress as I think I also have been eating more because of feeling stressed.

ILoveNigelTufnel knee injuries stink. Mine set me back so much, I had never had any problems like that before the accident, and then suddenly I was bed/sofa-ridden for weeks, and then on crutches for more weeks again. I really want to start running again, but I can't yet as it hurts when I try and I am still walking with a limp which I am supposed to get rid of before I start running. So good to hear that you are getting going again with the exercise!

menomonster · 28/12/2022 16:11

Meant to say: "I could be wrong here - I have only been reading up on it a bit so far"

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 28/12/2022 16:14

Place-marking my spot. I’m not reading anything yet as I have way too much junk to eat but a wedding dress to fit into in te summer.

FurForksSake · 28/12/2022 17:21

I've got about five stone to lose, and I need to start exercising too. I'm very all or nothing and I need to find a sustainable and slow method to lose.

I'm giving myself a grace period to 9th January and then I'll be on it.

I'd like to lose 1lb a week and exercise three times a week.

We were doing gousto till recently, but I think that was causing me to gain weight along with going to Asda at lunch time.

I need to find a very easy lunch. It will be slim fast for a while as I've got loads of it to use up! It will keep me out of Asda at least!

Patchworksack · 28/12/2022 18:12

Hi everyone, can I join you please? Currently about 12lb above my happy weight and feeling bleugh after spending December with a yucky virus. My DH and I have agreed to do dry January and I will go low carb ish as he’s T2 diabetic.

Amazonmulu · 28/12/2022 18:49

Can I join please? Having lost 2st in 2020 I managed to put on 1st in 2021 and 2st in 2022 😭😭 Mow I have 3st to lose. Feel very depressed about it. So I'm going to put on my big girl pants (literally) and do something about it.

My plan:

  • We got a dog in November so I'm going to start taking it for a daily walks (have not been able to as she didn't have her jabs).
  • Meal plan
  • IF
  • Run 5km 2 or 3 times a week
  • Weight train once a week

What is the Zoe study @LucyLatimer ?

Acronymsandinitialisms · 28/12/2022 18:51

Joining - I'm really sad about how heavy I am. I'm 12st 5 and feel much better at about 10st 2.

I feel you. I’m about 12st 10 at the minute, I’d love to get to the low 10st mark.
