Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

I use the air fryer for homemade chips. I just put enough oil on them to lightly coat them. I don't really fry anything except fried potato butties. I've had many of those over Christmas which accounts for my increased salt intact. We have chips about once every 10 days but only a handful.
We are having pasta or pizza today and I might go chips with pizza. Then tomorrow healthier stuff although the pizza and chips will be homemade.

ndo4000 · 31/12/2022 15:19

So excited - weight this morning was under 66kg! I know that's probably just water, but was still nice to see! We've just booked a summer holiday too, so Ive got until July to sort myself out!!!!

CumbrianExile · 31/12/2022 15:27

Afternoon all.

I've been following these threads for a while so decided to jump on board for some accountability as you are all lovely and supportive.

I have about 4 stone to lose. I start healthy eating every January and last 2 weeks usually. Hoping to make this year different. I'm calorie counting using nutracheck, aiming to walk more and start swimming again.

SW: 15.1.2 😞

TheRealHousewife · 31/12/2022 16:14

@AutisticLegoLover I too use my air fryer like you. I cut an unpeeled potato into wedges, simmer in salted boiling water for 5 minutes, drain and spread on a clean tea towel to air dry & cool. After which place in a bowl, drizzle a little oil and salt & pepper, shake to coat then into a pre heated air fryer 10-12 mins, remove drawer, shaking at regular intervals. Lovely treat and can work in a cc way of eating.

Welcome to the thread @CumbrianExile 👍 Sounds sensible. Deprivation is the route to failure so when people don’t do anything too extreme they’re more likely to succeed 🤞

@Amazonmulu I use my airfryer for anything that I would cook in the oven and generally add no more than a teaspoon of oil. For example - 'roasted' vegetables like peppers, onion, fennel, aubergine which cook in a maximum of 15 minutes. Pork chops, salmon fillets, lamb steaks, chicken thighs - and these need no oil at all. Don't think of it as a fryer, think of it as mini oven.

Flashy9 · 31/12/2022 18:37

Hi, please could I join as well? Have been unwell and waiting for a gynae op in January to sort out my very heavy periods, and need to lose the lockdown chub of 2 to 2.5 stones. Think I may also be in peri and coupled with a cold and lurghy not feeling my best 😕☹️

I will be starting by just moving more and cutting down on the crap (my downfall is crisps and stress eating). Once I have recovered from the op will up the activity as I always feel better when I am moving more! As for the last few months have not moved at all due to not being well and being very busy at work.

So first thing will be nutribullet shakes for breakfast or yoghurt, homemade soup for lunch and a low carb dinner.

Weatherwax13 · 31/12/2022 20:26

Happy New Year everyone. Thanks for the welcome @fallfallfall and@TheRealHousewife I'm on day 4. Sticking to two meals in much smaller portions and a snack of a small handful of nuts which I've discovered really staves off that late afternoon slump. I think it's a hangover from years of kids and the witching hour after school runs! Always famished around 3.30.
I'll check in for the Wednesday weigh in.
I'm in Australia these days and of course my scales are in kg so I've changed my goal from 2 stones into 12.8kg.
Just wanted to lend some encouragement to all of us:)

Amazonmulu · 31/12/2022 20:46

Thanks @Lizsmum!

fallfallfall · 01/01/2023 02:19

Last meal
roughly calculated at 413, so 500 most likely but not much over.

Happy Nee Year to you all!

Weighed myself this morning and I've put on a kilo since yesterday!!!! How can that be?!?!? 😩

HamFrancisco · 01/01/2023 08:40

Good morning everyone, I’d like to join too please. Thanks @TheRealHousewife for getting us underway.

I have about 5 stone to lose and I’m thinking small liveable changes are the way to go for me, any whiff of deprivation and I’m instantly defeated.

Not sure whether to weigh in lb, kg or stones and lb, which is most encouraging? Grin

milkfromthesleepycow · 01/01/2023 09:17

@HamFrancisco I use all of them! Means I very frequently achieve goals which is really encouraging! But I do tend to have an excessive amount of mini goals....

TheRealHousewife · 01/01/2023 09:28

🥳Happy New Year🥳

For those celebrating here’s hoping you had a good time!

We had intended to open a bottle of Champagne but we both felt a ‘flat’ and some what reflective and it just did not seem fitting. Still lovely being with my OH and sharing a kiss at midnight whilst watching Jules Hootenanny.

I’ve weighed (same weight as Wednesday) and reset my intentions this morning. I’m aiming for a solid 1lb or 2 this month but will settle for maintenance. This year I would like to get under 9 stone as being 5ft anything more is still unhealthy. My final goal is a further solid 7lbs off. Sounds a doddle but it’s proving tough 😬 (I’ve just noticed on my initial post on this thread it says hovering around 9st … it should read hovering around 9st 6lbs)

Your last meal looks delish @fallfallfall 😋

Welcome to the thread @HamFrancisco . If you’re wanting to see your numbers move I’d say lbs as that’s the smallest denomination. I’d don’t think body weight scales go as low as ozs or grams 😬

Welcome to the thread @MilesFlora 👍

@ndo4000 TMI warning Don’t panic … you just need a good poo 💩

Happy new year @milkfromthesleepycow 🥳

I agree @Lizsmum Air Fryers are little mini ovens. Ok for small amounts. It does do a fish fillet lovely, no fat added.

Menu
Meal 1 - Minestrone soup. Pecans
Meal 2 - Chicken stir fry. Satsuma.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Lesley Sansone video
Session 2 - Hand weights.

So ladies:-

  • reaffirm your intentions
  • set your goals
  • plan your meals
  • eat enough protein
  • don't forget fibre
  • stay hydrated
  • use healthy fats
  • exercise
  • be mindful about portion sizes
  • get quality sleep
  • no drastic or extreme measures
  • EAT ENJOYABLE FOOD 🍲

I like the sound of frequent achievement! 😊
As I’m starting dead on 16 stone I think it makes sense to set my first target as ‘below 16 stone’. Grin

SingaporeSlinky · 01/01/2023 11:13

Happy new year everyone! Started the year as I mean to go on, with my first ever Parkrun. Mostly walked round as I absolutely HATE running, but since I went to bed early and hadn’t had a drink or partied or anything, thought I should make the most of the morning and reset.
Good luck to everyone for January goals.

Wafflefudge · 01/01/2023 11:23

I'd like to join please.
Not weighed yet but know I've gained and want to get back to about 53 kilos.
Going to do a short yoga session now then a homemade smoothie for lunch.

Anapana · 01/01/2023 11:29

I’m in too, three stone to drop which sounds unachievable do all I have to do is lose 1 lb then repeat it 41 more times.

Bumblebeehum · 01/01/2023 11:35

Checking in with cheery-on-it vibes (and coz I can’t figure out how to log on my Watch 😆), 12km bike ride + 100 stomach crunches done.

Food plan is:

Lunch: Soup and Sourdough with a protein drink
Dinner: Chicken Curry with one spoon of rice, berries and yogurt.

Not weighing until Wednesday 🫡

Cloudberries123 · 01/01/2023 11:44

Morning all, and happy new year!

We're away from home over this weekend so inevitably a bit festive. Just had a lovely brunch of eggs benedict which I felt was the more nutritious choice over bacon waffles 😂

Here's to a healthier, fitter year with no drastic measures or extremes!

Hello. I'm joining because I need to lose so much - probably about 5 stone but I'm actually scared to get on the scales right now.

Right. Today is the start.

I figure skate twice a week, and will add in gym or swimming on those days too. Probably swimming at first as I'm still recovering from a nasty ankle sprain at the start of October. I'm going to try and book in with a PT before I do anything in the gym, just to be safe.

Eating wise I WFH 3 days a week so need to start getting lunches sorted - only get a half hour break so want to have some meals prepped ahead of time. I think I'd like to eat less meat as well.

buzzofthebumblebee · 01/01/2023 13:27

Happy New Year everyone!
Nice to be back and looking forward to quitting the bad habits and getting back into zone and feeling good about myself again.
B- berries, yoghurt & seeds
L - roast squash salad with salmon
D - roast veg chicken & pesto (may have spoon pasta)
My exercise starts tomorrow, Monday
I won't weigh until Weds ... I genuinely don't know what I weigh. Sadly think it may start with a 12. Gives me 3 whole days to shift something before the reality sets in !!

Love your username @Bumblebeehum !!! 100 crunches is impressive - well done!
Hello again to some lovely folk from last year @ImALittlePea @fallfallfall @ginsparkles & others.

Your goals are fantastic @TheRealHousewife I'll copy them all ; )
