Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

PS - In the coming days I’ll post some links which some members might find useful. Feel free to share your own links, recipes and photos too 😊

Hi @Cloudberries123 & thank you.

@menomonster Higher protein and fat with moderate low glycemic carbs is an excellent food combination 👍

@Thisisnotmyname2022 Is the dress for your own wedding? How exciting 🔔🔔🔔

@FurForksSake A lb a week = 52lbs over the year 👍. Sensible target although in the early days you could well lose more than a 1lb a week then it will start to taper off. Continue to set your intentions & Good luck.

Welcome to the thread @Amazonmulu @Acronymsandinitialisms @Patchworksack .

Apologies I don’t know how to only quote a small part of a post.

Yes, my wedding, which also means honeymoon!

We are guests at a wedding in April, but I have an outfit for that already that I love, but it won’t be a big deal having to buy another one a size down.

You’re very welcome @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo 👍

Welcome to the thread @Foxymoxy68 Condolences about your family bereavement 💔It sounds like you’ve an exciting year ahead, plenty to look forward too! Weddings are great incentives to keep you on track 👍

Lovely to see you @SingaporeSlinky ❤️ You’ll soon be back on track! As Tim Spectre says “Diet over time is more important than absolute adherence every day”.

Welcome to the thread @melissasummerfield … have you been on them in the past? Your name rings a bell.

Probably, I am a perpetual dieter 😭

Waynettaaa · 29/12/2022 04:07

Hello all, hoping to join in, please!

I haven't weighed myself yet, I'm giving myself the rest of this month(!) to finish all the naughties in the house 🫣 and I'll be starting from January 😇

I have UAT and am pretty sure I'm peri menopausal, so with those and Christmas, I dread to think what the scales are going to say 😭

I would like to start doing aqua aerobics and yoga/pilates, but a bit apprehensive about going alone. I'm hoping to do a mix of IF, low carbing with healthy eating and upping my exercise with walking.

It's my 30th wedding anniversary in September and DH & I have booked a special break to celebrate, and I have 3 beautiful DGC I need to get healthy for.

Good luck, everyone 🍀

fallfallfall · 29/12/2022 04:31

how exciting, not even jan 1 first and 4 pages in!!
for those of you worried about the lack of movement on the thread many of us are still posting on the december thread. so hold on tight.
several of us will be weighing in come the first with all sorts of info and support :)

PaperwhiteTheGhost · 29/12/2022 04:38

Can I join? I've always been on the curvy size but I've put on 4st in the last 3 years. I'm horrified and yet I've not made any concerted effort to loose it over the last few months (been the same weight for about 9 months)

I'm currently toying between SW and calorie counting. Exercise wise I'm planning a long walk 2-3 ×per week in Jan and Feb, hopefully progressing to some hiit workouts and couch 25k. (I'm starting exercise from scratch, can't remember the last time a actually made any effort)

Weatherwax13 · 29/12/2022 04:41

This seems like a lovely supportive thread so I'd like to join you please. Need the encouragement and am really interested to hear other people's stories.
I'd like to lose 2 stone. I'm 50 in April and I'm buggered if I'm still going to look like I do in our Christmas photos!
So 2 stone by mid April is my goal.
I'll join the Wednesday weigh in. My intention is to stick to 16:8 as much as possible and keep to 1200 calories. I did this years ago and it worked well but I'll see if my elderly metabolism means I need to rethink a bit this time:)
Best of luck ladies

Cariadz · 29/12/2022 04:49

Good morning,

I’ll join you.

Im mid 60’s with about 15kgs to lose due to medication I’ve had to use these last two years. I’m off it now but the weight isn’t miraculously going to fall off me. I have a personal trainer and during my hour long sessions with him I can burn 530 calories but unfortunately I’m having to have a very sudden replacement knee in a couple of weeks and will be only doing my physio at the gym.

I eat well and stick to about 1400 calories a day. My diet consists of moderate carb with higher protein and would be considered Mediterranean. I cook everything from scratch and my first goal is to lose two kgs by the end of January.

fallfallfall · 29/12/2022 05:03

Welcome @Weatherwax13 and@Cariadz. I’m in Canada so a different time zone.
I’ve been in the thread for a few+ years, four I think.
Honestly in a few days all the regulars will jump on to help along.
I’m 65, and am most likely nearer to 160 than necessary. I am for 135 mid BMI for 5’3” but struggle to dip below 140.
every year I manage, then comes fall it goes back on and so the cycle kind of goes BUT each year I dip lower, and gain less :).

JoanThursday · 29/12/2022 05:22

Can I join please? I'm feeling very bleuuurgh about myself at the moment. Perimenopausal, and a good couple of stones heavier than I should be. Calorie counting has worked for me in the past.

I do pilates every week without fail and cycle/walk everywhere. I used to love weights in the gym but have suffered a frozen shoulder and nerve damage in my neck (not gym related). Am on the mend but need to take it easy.

I need some accountability and am determined to feel.better about myself, regain some energy and motivation!

Itsnotallblackandwhite · 29/12/2022 05:58

Thanks for the thread @TheRealHousewife - I’m joining you all - weighing in at 82 kilos (5’3”), which is the weight I’ve been hovering at for the last 4 years. I’m 57 next year and want to sort out my cholesterol levels and overall health.

I did the Zoe nutrition test recently and have my results back, I just haven’t started putting the recommendations into practice. So yesterday I sorted through my cupboards and have a heap of stuff to take to the food bank today.

I’m starting with diet first before I start exercise as I tend to go all on and then give up.

Itsnotallblackandwhite · 29/12/2022 05:59

*tend to go “all out”…

babynoname22 · 29/12/2022 08:34

Any tips tow stop 'picking' especially
being at home at lot at the minute.

I start off with good intentions then the next minute it's a biscuit with a cup of tea bit of chocolate (we have loads from Xmas 🤦‍♀️) I think a bit is ok but I don't seem to have any restraint.

Also tips please for fitting in exercise with a 2.5 year old and 4 months old!

Part of me thinks I need to do something like slimming world and be very strict but finically it's not really doable. Calorie counting sounds ok but I need to get meals planned and I get so over faced as in the last person to get sorted in the house so end up grabbing something quick.

TheRealHousewife · 29/12/2022 08:34

Good Morning All

@Thisisnotmyname2022 We love a wedding on these threads! 😊

@melissasummerfield You don’t ever have to diet again. Honestly, you don’t. They just don’t work. You need to change you mind set first. You need to develop a way of eating which is tasty, nutritious and sustainable. What can work are healthy balanced meals/snacks that are based on tasty, nutritious foods made from scratch. Portion control/calorie counting helps too. You need to view it as a lifestyle change rather than a quick fix. The odd deviation won’t sabotage your efforts as long as overall you’re eating clean. Try to not drink calories too and avoid sugar. Not telling you off 😊 Just saying …

@Waynettaaa (loved that character 😬) @PaperwhiteTheGhost @Weatherwax13 @Cariadz @JoanThursday @Itsnotallblackandwhite Welcome to the thread. As @fallfallfall says, the December thread is still running. Could make for interesting reading.

@Cariadz Sorry to hear about your knee. Here’s hoping you have a swift recovery! Weight loss par se is influenced more by diet than exercise so alls not lost. Although I understand your frustration at not being able to partake.

Hi @fallfallfall I love your post about how over the long term you are continuing to lose (similar to myself) Healthy eating and wellness is really a life’s times commitment and will help us to continue to reap the rewards that brings ❤️

Menu
Meal 1 - Porridge with dates.
Meal 2 - Hake, carrots, peas, broccoli & cheese sauce.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Oh babe weighed as well (it is Wednesday weigh right?)

12st 3 ☹️
Target 10st 7
24lb to go

TheRealHousewife · 29/12/2022 08:39

@babynoname22 Every journey starts with the smallest step. You’ve faced the weigh in and now look forward to taking the necessary steps for your transformation 👏👍

Bumblebeehum · 29/12/2022 08:51

I’d like to join please! Have a whopping target of 60lbs to go with a regular Wednesday weigh-in (didn’t weigh yesterday in case Christmas was too bad!), but have managed to get back on track by leaving the snacks alone.

My method is a mix of calorie counting, increased protein and intermittent fasting 16:8

JoanThursday · 29/12/2022 08:59

Thank you @TheRealHousewife! Am going to start today by reading through the resources on this thread and on the previous one. I also have a physio appointment today so will check in with him as to whether I am ready/ what I can do in the gym. Let's go! 💪

TheRealHousewife · 29/12/2022 09:04

Welcome to the thread @Bumblebeehum You've outlined a sensible plan which is a good start. 👍

Plantmoretrees86 · 29/12/2022 10:14

I'm in! 6 months postpartum and have at least a stone to lose (probably more). Plan to calorie count with nutracheck, stop all evening snacking and continue my long daily walks with the pram. Wil start 2nd Jan as we're at MIL's until then and her cooking is amazing so resistance is futile!

Plantmoretrees86 · 29/12/2022 10:41

@babynoname22 and anyone else who's recently ish post natal, I've just signed up to bumps and Burpees post natal exercise plan, all home workouts and looks really good. Not entirely sure how I'll fit it in as all naps take place on me or in the pram but the classes are short (20-25 mins) so hoping baby might be happy to kick about on her playmat beside me while I do them!

emptythelitterbox · 29/12/2022 10:58

I've been thinking about my plan for the new year and I've decided to try out ADF (Alternate Day Fasting). I figure, if I can make it through a whole day without eating, then I can make it through anything! I've done it before and it's worked really well for me.

As for my weight goal, I'm thinking about trying to lose about half a stone (7 pounds) in the month of January. I'm determined to shed those holiday pounds and get back to my beach bod!

For exercise, I'm going to do some kettlebell swings. They're super easy to do and they're a great way to get a full body workout. Plus, swinging a kettlebell around makes me feel like a total bad-ass.

Today, I've been eating pretty lightly, so I'm feeling good and ready to go all in on the first day of the new year! Here's to a healthier, fitter me in 2023!

Itsnotallblackandwhite · 29/12/2022 19:30

Well so much for delaying my exercise regime - I’ve just signed up for a gym membership and paid for 4 hours PT sessions 😁

I’m just going for it. I’ve decided 2023 is going to be a year of wellness.

Ethiopianflower · 29/12/2022 20:04

I lost 2 stone 3 years ago and have now put back on a stone of it. I followed the unislim plan (an Irish slimming company) which basically promotes eating healthy and exercising. I find I am as good as gold for the first week so I see a loss to motivate myself and then I chill out and try to get into good habits. Found it easy to follow last time. Used to allow myself the treat of a frozen curly wurly every day to curb the sugar cravings. All the very best to you all - we got this. 👍🏾👍🏾

ndo4000 · 30/12/2022 08:06

I finally faced the scales this morning:

Current: 66.2kg
Target: 60kg

Not as bad as I thought it might be after Christmas but still too much for me.....

Still doing Noom's trial. Tbh - I'm not sure it's any better than MFP. It's logging meals and weight, but has motivational lessons to read each day. Only been doing it for 4 days, but I can see that it might become repetitive.....
