Aiming for 1lb per week

1lbperweek · 02/01/2021 11:25

Previously I’ve been disappointed at losing ‘only’ 1lb per week so have fallen off the wagon but really if I’d just accepted it and kept at it I’d be stones down by now. The science tells me it’s 1lb per week I should be losing on the calorie deficit I had but obviously I wanted more Grin

My plan for January is to ease myself in gently by just stopping the snacks. Then if I need to take more extreme measures in February I will. I’m not great at stopping at one biscuit or one packet of crisps so I think none is the best way forward.

But not until I start work again on Tuesday. I’ll weigh myself then for a starting weight.

Anyone who would like to join me in whichever method they choose is more than welcome!

I am planning to lose weight in exactly the same way.

I am going to weigh myself as regularly as I can to keep on track, stop snacking and stop drinking alcohol.

Basically develop better habits.

1lbperweek · 02/01/2021 11:37

Yep that’s exactly what I need to do! Do you prefer to weigh weekly or daily?

OP posts:
Ohdoleavemealone · 02/01/2021 13:18

I used to try weekly but couldn't help sneaking on half way through. Will probably try and stick to weekly though or it gets disheartening when you don't see change.
Will weigh more often when I am closer to my goal to help me stay on track.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 02/01/2021 13:26

I am officially weighting weekly. Sometimes i pop in in the middle and regret😂
My weight fouctuates a lot during the week so furthertst day asay from driking evening it is.

1 pound a week is good loss. Make sure to work on some good habits to keep after. Good luck!

1lbperweek · 03/01/2021 17:38

I’ve just made up a sheet on Apple Numbers to keep track of my losses. I added week markers to help keep me motivated. If I lose 1 a week from now until my holiday in October (HA!) then I’ll have lost over 40lbs!!! I just really need to keep it in my head that I’m playing the long game and not expect losses of 2/3/4 a week because on the calories I want to be able to eat it’s just not sustainable!

Have eaten so much today knowing that on Tuesday all snacks are out the window. I think I’ll see how I get on in January and if I’m really struggling I’ll allow fruit/veg snacks in February.

Thanks for the good wishes Schrodinger!

Daily weigh ins for me to begin with at least I think.

Well here we go! First day of no snacks in order to try and lost 1lb per week.

Weighed myself this morning and I’m 11.1 which is 8lbs more than the lowest weight I got to during lockdown after losing a stone. Oh dear!!

Had porridge with 3g of golden syrup this morning. Sometimes porridge just makes me hungrier and I can’t decide if I actually like it. I like the taste but not that keen on the texture. Will stick with it. I do feel full just now, just unsure how long that feeling will last.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 05/01/2021 20:07

I admire that. I can't do no snacks. 🙈
How is it going?

Bmidreams · 05/01/2021 20:19

Hi op, I decided to do this too! A 2lb weekly loss o my gives me 1200 calories and I just can't do that at the moment. So 1lb gives me 1440 per day.

I also lost a stone during lockdown, but put it back on in the last 2 months.

I feel the same way about porridge! I'm having it with banana as it feels better than having toast.

Start weight on 1st January was 13 st 9lbs

Today I'm 13 stone 6lbs.

I need to be 11st 10lbs for a healthy weight.

Good luck everyone. I'm going to do the weight projection thing now!!

GooseFat · 05/01/2021 20:35

I am back on the diet this week! I just need to finish the wine and crumpets in my house first ha! I did really well during the first lockdown, my calories were about 1400-1500 through the week then 1800 at the weekend. I lost 10lbs, then the more I exercised the hungrier I got and I ended up falling off the wagon. I have managed to stay the same weight through exercise, but annoyed at myself for not doing better on the eating side of things! Currently trying to meal plan but struggling with it.

1lbperweek · 05/01/2021 20:39

It’s gone ok today thanks!

Had Heinz tomato soup with a morning roll for lunch then had the top half of one of my daughters rolls too as she didn’t want it. Had planned to make soup but ended up at work longer than I planned to be and tinned was more convenient.

Having homemade chilli for tea and because it’s so late it should leave me nicely full all night and I won’t want anything later. Will have a flatbread and rice with it.

Welcome @Bmidreams and good luck with your losses. Is banana nice on porridge? Might give it a go but I’m funny about mixing hot and cold foods! You’re the same as me then - losing weight in lockdown then putting it back on. I feel your pain! Keep posting and checking in as it will really motivate us both. Will you weigh daily?

1440 calories a day sounds manageable! I’m going to try not to think about calories for this month and hope that the lack of snacks will keep me at a reasonable number anyway. I may rethink this in Feb!

Bmidreams · 05/01/2021 21:10

Banana is nice on porridge, it makes it a bit like a desert, like rice pudding!!

I normally have tinned soup for lunch. Tonight I had a quorn and vegetable curry with rice. It wasn't that nice this time!!

I might weigh most days but just record on here the weekly loss. Trying to up the exercise but it's bloody cold out there!

Bmidreams · 05/01/2021 21:11

@GooseFat mmmmm crumpets...

1lbperweek · 05/01/2021 21:21

Welcome @GooseFat! Sounds like you did really well during Lockdown 1.0 as well! We were obviously all full of motivation back then Grin

Are you veggie @Bmidreams? If so, does it make eating well easier?

I should really be doing some exercise too but two kids at home while working. I’m not sure where I’d find the time and I need my tv and chill time at night.

OP posts:
Bmidreams · 05/01/2021 21:29

I'm a veggie but I think it's harder as very reliant on carbs. It would be healthier to have a piece of meat or fish with veg or salad I reckon. By exercise, I mean we are all going out for a lunchtime walk for an hour.

1lbperweek · 06/01/2021 11:56

Yes I see what you mean!!

Porridge again for me this morning. Not sure about lunch yet - there’s some chilli leftover from last night but I don’t think we have any rice Confused

No change on the scales yet but will continue to weigh daily.

OP posts:
1lbperweek · 06/01/2021 20:42

Another successful day. How did others get on?

I had my leftover chilli for lunch and cottage pie for tea so plenty of mince today Confused

Would love to be down to 11 stone on the scales tomorrow but we will see.

Ladybird345 · 06/01/2021 20:58

Can I join? 😊

I need to lose weight and once my new scales arrive I am starting with the healthy eating plan 😊 I am aiming to stick to calorie counting and take it from there

GooseFat · 06/01/2021 21:53

Well done @1lbperweek, I finished my crumpets this morning so planning on starting in the morning. I don't have a lot of healthy foods in yet so I'll just have to be a bit creative I would say! Similar to @Bmidreams , although I'm not vegetarian I really don't like meat apart from chicken (and even then I can't eat a lot) and I find it very difficult to come up with meals that aren't just veggie curries!

GooseFat · 06/01/2021 21:54

Welcome @Ladybird345 Smile

Xwvhtsghyf · 06/01/2021 21:57

Hi can I join please. Also taking it slow and just cutting snacks for now and trying to eat smaller portions don’t want to do a really strict diet as I then just binge after a few days!

LJC1234 · 06/01/2021 22:01

Please can I join 😊

I started on Saturday currently the heaviest I've ever been but did have a baby 6 months ago so have enjoyed a lot of cake since 😂

January's aim is no snacks and no fizzy drinks ( my worst habit) also to walk more

I completed couch to 5k in December but Christmas food for most of December meant I saw no benefit on the scales . I need to get back running again

I'm currently weighing daily / every other as weekly doesn't seem to work for me.

This is probably total rubbish but I like to think it's true but someone told me once that loosing a pound a week is sustainable loss and much more likely to stay off than a quicker weight loss..

AaronCardigan · 06/01/2021 22:01

I'm doing this too. After stepping on scales and finding I was a whole stone heavier than my "worse case scenario." I now have 3 and half stone to lose.

KellyTLC · 06/01/2021 23:37

Hey.

Have you tried overnight oats?

So pop 150g of 0% Greek yoghurt with your oats and almond milk/whatever milk you have in fridge and have the next day. You can make loads of variations.
I pop a handful of frozen berries in too.

Greek yoghurt is quite high in protein, so will help you stay fuller for longer 👌.

Studies show women that way a high protein diet/breakfast lose more weight than those that don’t 👍.

KellyTLC · 06/01/2021 23:43

I totally agree with the 1lb a week weight loss as being sustainable.

Like @Xwvhtsghyf said being too strict usually ends up in overeating afterwards.

If you don’t mind me asking, why do you need to start back running if you saw no benefit on the scales? If you enjoy it and like to run for exercise then great, but it’s not that great for weight loss like you said.

Good luck 👍.
