Aiming for 1lb per week

1lbperweek · 02/01/2021 11:25

Previously I’ve been disappointed at losing ‘only’ 1lb per week so have fallen off the wagon but really if I’d just accepted it and kept at it I’d be stones down by now. The science tells me it’s 1lb per week I should be losing on the calorie deficit I had but obviously I wanted more Grin

My plan for January is to ease myself in gently by just stopping the snacks. Then if I need to take more extreme measures in February I will. I’m not great at stopping at one biscuit or one packet of crisps so I think none is the best way forward.

But not until I start work again on Tuesday. I’ll weigh myself then for a starting weight.

Anyone who would like to join me in whichever method they choose is more than welcome!

Is anyone using a tape to measure or photos too?

The scales can be affected by so many variables and if it doesn’t go the right way it can be so disheartening.

Or clothes are a great measure too 👍.

I put on 6lb over Xmas, but it’s the 5cm on waist I’m more keen to get off.

1lbperweek · 07/01/2021 08:59

Morning all!
Good news for me this morning - showing 11 stone on the scales. In reality I’ve only ‘lost’ a few 8ths of a lb and it could just be a daily fluctuation but I’m taking it and hoping it will still be off tomorrow!

Hello to all the newbies. Good luck with starting. I agree a lb in a week is more sustainable than aiming for much more because the calories you’d need to be on (and I’ve done it myself in the past) are so low.

Whoever mentioned fizzy drinks. I drink a lot too. Next month I might possibly try and switch them for water or squash.

The overnight oats sound interesting! I might give that a try, I’ll order some yoghurt next time I get my shopping.

Had my porridge already and will be making leek and potato soup for lunch then it’s fajitas for tea here.

Forgot to say - I’ve never had much success with the tape measure method tbh. I much prefer to weigh but you’re absolutely right the scales sometimes can’t be trusted. As long as it’s a general downward movement I’m happy.

Hello everyone.

For those of you planning on cutting out snack/fizzy drinks completely, I find that factoring them in once or twice a week works best for me, say on a Wednesday and Saturday night plan a (not over the top) treat. I would allow myself a glass of wine and proper bar of chocolate and it was something to look forward to. Of course it's different for everyone and some people may need to cut them out completely!

I had porridge this morning, had to add banana to it (not my fave) as I had no strawberries. And I foolishly added cinnamon (saw it on Instagram) and it wasn't very nice lesson learnt for next time!

@1lbperweek I love leek and potato soup, planning on making some homemade once I can get my hand on some leeks!

Have a nice day everyone and I'll check back in tonight hopefully still on track!

KellyTLC · 07/01/2021 11:22

I know what you mean, can be fiddly the first few times 👍

KellyTLC · 07/01/2021 11:24

I’m exactly the same @GooseFat.

I still have my bottle
Of Dr Pepper twice a week.

I know it’s no good for me and full of sugar, but I like it.

I really fancied one yesterday, but because I had already had one Monday I went for Pepsi max instead-zero calories and that was quite nice xx

1lbperweek · 07/01/2021 11:39

Yes I think you’re right Goose! I’m going to stick with my fizzy (sugar free) this month and then start cutting it out next month as I don’t want to stop everything I love at once! But I think on a Saturday night with my takeaway I’ll still have some. It’s not the same with water or squash!

Not sure if I could manage to limit chocolate or anything to once a week so will probably just aim for none. With things like that I find none easier than a little bit Grin

Good luck for the rest of the day everyone!

It's really good not to cut out everything you like. That's how people often slip and stop.
I have a day off when I don't count so can have x cheese and some cripss and plenty of wineso I do 6:1😂 6 days calorie counted, 1 day nkt. Though I take calories of the other 6 and add it to it somewhat.
Eg. If I am on 1600, I take 100 and add it to 1 day making it 2100 so all the extra doesn't hurt as much🙈. Just an example.
As I progressed through the weeks and months I realised I was making quite good choices on the free day as well. Never felt "deprived".

Humphriescushion · 07/01/2021 18:30

Can i join? Been burying my head in the sand re weight gain and going to take my self in hand this January! I will confront the scales tomorrow and post for accountability, a pound a week is more realistic and hopefully will stop me being too hard on myself. Also doing dry January and going to try to improve my skin which is awful atm, so hello all and good luck.

LJC1234 · 07/01/2021 20:16

@KellyTLC

I totally agree with the 1lb a week weight loss as being sustainable.

Like @Xwvhtsghyf said being too strict usually ends up in overeating afterwards.

If you don’t mind me asking, why do you need to start back running if you saw no benefit on the scales? If you enjoy it and like to run for exercise then great, but it’s not that great for weight loss like you said.

Good luck 👍.

I actually love running and usually finds it helps me lose . Over Christmas however the over indulging totally out weighed it 😂😂
Ladybird345 · 07/01/2021 21:08

Hello everyone,

Good luck with all the weight loss😊

My scales have arrived so doing the dreaded weigh in tomorrow morning and I know I have between 2 and 3 stone to lose 😳

Anyone else got similar to lose?

KellyTLC · 07/01/2021 21:13

@LJC1234 ah I see what you mean.

You are crazy!! But good for you 👍

I seem to feel every stride, my knees, hips.

I’ve tried and tried and decided it’s just not for me

1lbperweek · 07/01/2021 21:51

Hi newbies!

@Ladybird345 I have around the same to lose. I want to get to under 9 so that would take 2 stone to do. It feels like so much!

@KellyTLC I’m a bit the same with running - I’ve never got to the stage where I’ve enjoyed it but I keep trying every so often. I think I would if I could get to being able to to run consistently for 5K.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 07/01/2021 21:54

If you are not enjoyings ome exercise, don't push yourself into it. There are so many different exercises you can try, some will be the "ok, that's actually cool" one.
I tried rowing, bike, walking, treadmill, yoga... HIIT was finally something I quite enjoy! So just try some different styles. You will find something

Humphriescushion · 08/01/2021 06:43

Well i got on the bloody scales - 65kgs i was vainly hoping for 63. So thats where i am and getting on the scales is my first point to sorting it out - the only was is down now right Grin.

Have just ordered an electric bike, not going to pretend it is much exercise but will help motivate me into losing weight before it come for the sake of my knes. . My normal excercise classes, body sculpting and pilates are closed and i have not done anything at home as i said i would, will up my walking since i enjoy that.
Good luck everyone one, my mantra is going to be every little helps!

IrisAtwood · 08/01/2021 06:55

I’m in too.

Will weigh later.

My usual strategy is to eat half of anything high calorie or carbs ( unless lowish calories)

I used to rely on exercise, but I have heart failure now and can’t manage more than an occasional 40 minute walk/20 minute daily walk.

GooseFat · 08/01/2021 10:43

@LJC1234 I'm trying my best to get into running, I started c25k during first lockdown but didn't complete it, I go out occasionally for a run but struggling to manage more than 1.5 miles. I did re start it the other day to get myself running more consistently but this snow has scuppered my plans! I've been doing plenty walking (about 40 miles this week) and I like weight training.

I didn't check in last night as hubby brought me home a bottle of wine Blush and we had such a lovely day that it rounded it off nicely. I've had a healthy fry up for breakfast to try keep me full today. Wish me luck!

1lbperweek · 08/01/2021 12:43

There’s only so many exercises that are accessible at the moment though. I do think I could get to like running. I certainly love the ‘high’. Just wish I could skip the part where I look and feel like an exploding tomato!

@Humphriescushion 2kg more than expected isn’t too bad! Just two bags of sugar!

I was a bit naughty too last night and had some French fancies. And today. My bloody husband brought them home knowing I’m trying to be good but they’re gone now. Scales still showing 11 stone but maybe tomorrow they’ll show my sins.

Porridge for breakfast, leftover soup from yesterday for lunch and stir fry for tea so that’s a pretty good day (not thinking about the French fancies!)

Have a good day everyone :)

Thanks 1lb, yes good too look at it like that! one pound at a time and every bit helps! On edge her today since new worktop finally being put in, have been coping with random bits of wood as worktops for a month - hope i like it!

Slimming world pasta leftover for lunch and a noodle thing for dinner, as a treat. Trying to up my fruit.

GooseFat · 08/01/2021 13:57

@1lbperweek I think I like the fact that running is free, no equipment and outdoors. There's no setup, just get dressed and go! Yes I'm still waiting to get that enjoyment during the actual running, I don't know if anyone actually enjoys that bit ha! I doubt the french fancies have done any damage, it's frustrating though when it feels like you could have been 'one day closer' but caved instead Confused that's how I feel anyway!

GooseFat · 08/01/2021 19:02

Lunch was a sandwich and some grapes before a 7 mile walk. Then pasta for tea, probably too many calories but I'm getting back into the groove of eating three meals so I'm on the right track.

1lbperweek · 08/01/2021 21:41

Evening all!

How are we feeling heading into the weekend? We will have pizza or Chinese tomorrow but hoping it doesn’t affect things too much.

A 7 mile walk is great Goose! Bet you felt great after that.

Humph I struggle with fruit too! Your kitchen will feel so luxurious with an actual worktop in it today!

1lbperweek · 09/01/2021 15:05

Still hanging onto 11 stone on the scales this morning thankfully!

Porridge for breakfast and homemade lentil soup for lunch. Did have a chocolate biscuit with a cup of tea a little while ago but it’s Saturday!

Hope you’re all having a great Saturday.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 09/01/2021 15:14

Good job. It will keep dropping, you are, as do others on this thread, taking very sensible approach so you will do well!

LJC1234 · 09/01/2021 17:17

First weekly weigh in and I lost 1.5 pounds!

Last week was good in eating but rubbish on exercise so this week I aim to improve that
