Aiming for 1lb per week

1lbperweek · 02/01/2021 11:25

Previously I’ve been disappointed at losing ‘only’ 1lb per week so have fallen off the wagon but really if I’d just accepted it and kept at it I’d be stones down by now. The science tells me it’s 1lb per week I should be losing on the calorie deficit I had but obviously I wanted more Grin

My plan for January is to ease myself in gently by just stopping the snacks. Then if I need to take more extreme measures in February I will. I’m not great at stopping at one biscuit or one packet of crisps so I think none is the best way forward.

But not until I start work again on Tuesday. I’ll weigh myself then for a starting weight.

Anyone who would like to join me in whichever method they choose is more than welcome!

That's great @1lbperweek, I plan on having a small packet of buttons with my coffee soon! TOTM and I'm craving chocolate!

Well done @LJC1234! You will notice an even bigger difference once you start adding more exercise in aswell. I need to focus on my exercise next week too, apart from my walking I haven't done much.

Breakfast today was some not so healthy belvita biscuits. Lunch was homemade leek and potato soup with whole meal bread. And lentil Dahl for tea. My first time making dahl, it was surprisingly bland considering how many spices went into it. Will definitely add more chilli next time!

1lbperweek · 10/01/2021 09:35

Congratulations @LJC1234! Great loss to get you started.

Sounds like you had a good day too Goose. Hope you enjoyed your choc. It’s also TOTM for me and I’m going to mark next to my weight on those days just so I can see if it affects my weight on a monthly basis.

Have decided to take Sundays off weighing though!

A good day here! Porridge for breakfast, rolls for lunch (should probably only have had one) and roast chicken for tea. I did have a small hot chocolate at Starbucks but still a good day I think.

Hoping to still see 11 stone on the scales tomorrow.

How did everyone do today?

Totally embarrassing I just managed to post my response to this on the wrong thread

Yesterday was a mixed day for me.
Food wise I made good choices and I didn't snack until a friend walking her dog past my house left a slice of homemade cake on the doorstep for me... I obviously ate it

We walked with the dog and baby in the afternoon thou for over 1.5 hours and managed over 10 thousand steps which felt great 😊

Hoping to try and keep up the motivation to walk this week with the weather forecast of rain everyday 😩

I really want to see 11 stone appear on my scales at the moment I'm 12 exactly and my aim is 10 and a half

wineymummy · 11/01/2021 07:47

Hello, I've been lurking on lots of weight loss threads and decided this is the one for me. I've been doing low carb since 1st Jan. Saw an initial drop on the scales of about 1kg in 3 days (bloat?) But since then have lost just 0.3kg in the last week. It was my dds bday tho so lots of cake kicking around. I'm taking a break from booze too, Dry January for now but long term planning to stop day to day drinking. Had my second DD last Spring, no plans for any more so now's the time to stop making excuses. I hate running and frankly by the time the kids are in bed I've got zero motivation or energy for exercise so slow and steady on the diet is for me, but lots of walking and good intentions for evening bike rides when it's a bit lighter. Currently 82.1kg. I was 72kg when I got married 5 years ago, immediately fell pregnant straight after and everything went downhill (uphill?) from there. 72kg is my realistic goal and I know it's not happening overnight. If I can lose 0.3-0.5kg a week I'll be happy. So probably slightly less than a pound a week.

1lbperweek · 11/01/2021 14:05

Welcome Winey! I’m useless with KG but glad you’re onboard. How do you find low carb? I’ve never even attempted it but I think I’d struggle massively.

LJC it would have been rude not to eat the cake! That walk sounds great. Such an easy way to burn calories if you can get into it. Loads of rain here this week too so I don’t see us getting out at all - I’m a fair weather walker

Can you believe my scales are telling me I’ve gained 3lbs since Saturday?! Madness! Maybe those French Fancies did more damage than I thought. So I’m apparently 11.03 this morning which is 2lbs heavier than my starting weight last week Blush

Don't worry about small ups. As long as overall is down. You will always have weight fluctuations. I can move many, many pounds withing week.

You are doing great!

SquirtleSquad · 11/01/2021 14:17

I would love to join and have somewhere to keep track of my loss!
I'm due surgery in March and have to lose at least a stone from today before then so my BMI is appropriate for the operation Blush ideally I need to lose about 2lbs a week.

I started last Monday and will weigh in weekly. I've cut my calories to 1200 but this week it's been chaos at home with 3 kids and I've actually been closer to 1000 a day. I've lost quite a bit this week already!

04/01/2021 - start weight - 15st 8lbs
11/02/2021 - one week in - 15st 1.5lbs

Total loss 6.5lbs
Goal weight 14st

Good luck everyone!!

Humphriescushion · 11/01/2021 15:08

Am reading this thread to keep me motivated. Not posting much but is lovely to read how everyone is getting on and to see new people so welcome all. I took my foot off the pedal this weekend but nothing new there, but back on track today. I follow slimming world which usually works well for me but is slow which is fine. I weigh on friday and a pound a week will be fine. I am also in kgs and am used to this now and i can block out what this means in stones Grin. I am also doing dry january so is full on misery!

Xwvhtsghyf · 11/01/2021 17:38

This thread is really helping me! 1lb loss this week. I am aiming for around 13st so have two stone to lose.

Humphriescushion · 11/01/2021 18:49

Well done xwv!

1lbperweek · 12/01/2021 08:26

Hi newbies!

I’m sure you’ll get your stone for your op @SquirtleSquad! You can do it.

Good luck with dry January @Humphriescushion. I’m sort of unofficially doing it too. I’m not a huge drinker at all but will definitely not have any this month just to help with the losses.

Well done with your lb off @Xwvhtsghyf Grin

Frustratingly I’m still at 11.03 today so just need to accept it as reality now I think. Will keep plugging away though. There was a time I’d have just bypassed a thread like this thinking a pound isn’t enough for me in a week but it’s all that’s realistic for me tbh. Especially when I’m stuck at home working and doing homeschool, I’m totally idle.

Good luck today everyone :)

Morning all!

First day of homeschooling yesterday, had porridge for breakfast, missed lunch and lentil dahl for tea. Couldn't get my steps in due to DH being back to work so I ended up jogging on the spot watching real housewives at 9pm haha!

This morning I've had a coffee and porridge. Planning on soup for lunch and I'll wing it for tea! Got an asda shop coming tomorrow so teas for the rest of the week should be more organised.

Jumped on the scales this morning, currently 10st 2.4lbs so will use that as my starting weight. I did weigh last week when I started but I was really bloated and heavy due to my period. Aiming to lose a stone at the moment and then I'll re-assess when I'm there. It's been years since I've weighed under 10stone so if I can lose 3lbs by February I'll be over the moon!

wineymummy · 12/01/2021 10:44

It's definitely helpful having an achievable goal and trying to stick at it long term rather than crash dieting. I've realised that sugar is where I gain weight. DH is a great cook and we eat a lot of cheese. Cutting the carbs and sugar out is the easiest way for me - I can continue to eat what he cooks but substitute courgetti for pasta, lettuce leaves for wraps etc. Last night I made a trout and asparagus 'pasta' (courgetti for me) and it was delicious and really filling. I'm trying to fill up on veg rather than meat and cheese to make sure I'm still eating healthily. Already the craving for sugary snacks in the evening is fading. Weighing myself every day is also helping...when I have a bad day and don't see a drop the next day it motivates me. I'm also drinking a lot more coffee, which probably isn't so healthy, but it's not a carb or a snack so it's staying for now!

wineymummy · 12/01/2021 10:47

Also, the total lack of opportunity for socialising and how much easier it is to stick to a diet and Dry January is one of the very few positives to come out of covid!
We are moving house on Friday after a very tortuous and drawn out selling and buying process so I will definitely be having some bubbles to celebrate, so January won't be entirely Dry.

SquirtleSquad · 12/01/2021 11:29

I did Joe wicks with the kids yesterday, it was really hard I thought it would be kiddy games GrinBlush I got a full sweat on.. going to try and do that with them when it's on and see if that helps. The weather here is rubbish this week, really wet and cold and with 3 kids under 5 it's hard to get them all out in that sort of weather to get my steps in!

HeronLanyon · 12/01/2021 11:32

I’ve got current tooth trouble which has caused a lack of desire to eat (takes forever and I have to be careful). Am having three meals a day but nothing else at all. Astounded at how weight drops and realise how often I just have a bit of cheese or some other snack all through the day.
Slow and steady is definitely the way to go. Really properly just eating meals and cutting down portions a bit (if like me you eat a lot) should work! Good luck op.

GooseFat · 12/01/2021 12:43

I agree @wineymummy , I had the best success when I took it slow and steady and stopped trying to survive on 1200cals a day! Also exercise is a massive game changer for me. I should probably cut out (or at least lower) my sugar also but one step at a time i think. I don't have your willpower

Stick at it @SquirtleSquad it will get easier! I'm the same, although my kids are older they all seem to be allergic to the outdoors! It can be draining just rounding them up and convincing them to leave the house, I just don't have the energy for it some days.

@HeronLanyon yes I make a conscious effort to sit at the table and enjoy what I'm eating rather than wolfing it down, I think it does make a difference in making you few more satisfied.

GooseFat · 12/01/2021 12:43

Feel more satisfied, not few!

1lbperweek · 13/01/2021 11:01

Good morning all!

Another day of trying to work and homeschool at once is under way here.

Good luck on the move @wineymummy!

@GooseFat you’re dedicated to the cause with your on the spot steps! I’ll be lucky if I’ve done a few thousand all week.

@SquirtleSquad Joe Wicks is really hard! The weather is rubbish here too this week so no walks for us. I might force us out today though because the cabin fever is setting in big time!

@HeronLanyon I feel for you with the toothache. Hope you get it seen to soon! At least it’s helping with the losses. Silver linings and all that.

I’m so pleased I’m weighing in at 10.13 this morning - from 11.03 yesterday. So I’m 2lbs down from my original starting weight of 11.01 this time last week. As long as I’m still 10.13 next week I’ll be happy as that’ll be my 2lb for 2 weeks. The fluctuations are so annoying but also in a way helpful to keep you on track!

OP posts:
1lbperweek · 14/01/2021 12:55

Hoping some of you are still with me Smile

Weighed in at 10.12 this morning. Fully expecting it to go back up before my next weekly weigh in on Tuesday.

I’m surprised by how full I feel all of the time. Before I felt starving all the time but it was always more just wanting something to eat rather than needing it. But now, I’m fully satisfied on my three meals per day. They’re decent meals and there may come a point I need to take this into account and calorie count a bit more but for now I just want to get used to only having my meals. Snacking is just one of my (many) bad habits!

Hope you’re all doing ok!

OP posts:
GooseFat · 14/01/2021 13:31

Still here @1lbperweek Smile just feeling overwhelmed at the moment so not great at checking in! Managing not to turn to food and alcohol to cope though so I'm pleased about that. I'm doing similar to you, 3 full meals but I'm having a snack at nighttime too, not counting the calories yet, just hoping by making sensible choices I will be in a deficit. I'll probably do an official weigh in tomorrow morning. You're weight will fluctuate but aslong as that lowest number keeps going down you are doing well, that's how I always see it anyway!

Humphriescushion · 14/01/2021 16:50

Still here! Will weigh and post tomorrow. Not feeling optimistic since had a few treats but wont get down about and carry on. I am doing dry january and sometimes eat to stave off the cravings for a glass of wine.
You are doing well 1lb and goosefat! Onwards and downwards!

SquirtleSquad · 14/01/2021 16:54

I'm 8lbs down since the 4th Jan but it's so hard especially when the kids have their dinner. I always used to make a little extra (not on purpose although maybe subconsciously..) and have a little picky plate of kids tea with them, such a bad habit and such a bad one to break Blush

1lbperweek · 14/01/2021 18:17

Glad you’re all still here. Although I’d probably be quite happy twittering away to myself just because it helps keep me on track.

@GooseFat I’m blaming you for the small bar of choc I’ve just requested my husband bring home. I specifically asked for small because if the biggish bars are on offer for £1 and the small bars are 60p or whatever I can guarantee he’ll want to bring the big one. Then I’ll eat it all.

Keep at it Humph. Don’t let a few bad days throw you off track.

8lbs is amazing Squirt! Really fantastic well done. Once you break that mini-dinner habit you’ll wonder why you ever did it in the first place.
